I have been coming here for years for various different reasons. Sometimes I need acrylic boards for a Product Photography and sometimes I need acrylic frames built for artwork. Every single time I have had a great experience with somebody that is incredibly knowledgeable and helpful for whatever I need. The team is very friendly and has a plethora of information to help create whatever you envision. I am just so very pleased with several projects that Mike completed to display pieces from an artwork collection that is very important to me. I went to California Acrylic Design hoping they could make one custom stand for a fragile piece that I was almost afraid to take out of my house. He understood my caution, and was patient with me, and quickly had me feeling very confident that this project was in the right hands: Mike's knowledge, precision, and meticulous attention to supporting the piece correctly, following the design I'd had envisioned (which he corrected, painstakingly, to ensure more stability for the piece), and getting a result that was even better than what I had hoped for, was truly impressive. He did such beautiful work on that first stand that I inquired whether he could help with two other art pieces that I'd found challenging to find a good display option for, and he was kindly willing to look at them, also. For one, he followed a picture of a similar piece I found in a museum's book, and even improved upon its support structure for the piece he made for me -- I couldn't believe how quickly and professionally he rendered this. After making several measurements and testing the support, he went on to adapting the book's design to make a custom-fitted stand. It is beautiful, and timeless, just like the museum book's piece! The third piece of art had missing support pieces on its base when I obtained it, and a fragile existing stand: Mike found a way to make up for this by making a custom acrylic base to replace the fragile one, plus he reinforced support on the other side, hand-drilling the securing holes for the screws so carefully and slowly until he got a perfect fit. His great effort meant I could finally display all three of these pieces, so beautifully, after several years of discouraging results with talking to so many different craftsman about options for a stand. I also valued that Mike considered the couple of other ideas that had been suggested to me for these pieces, and pointed out where he thought they would not be effective, or effective long term, to support the art pieces. Mike did not do this in a way that disparaged the other designers' suggestions, or showed arrogance; rather, he just carefully considered the overall project and confidently raised a solution that was tremendous! I was so happy that I even sent a picture of the completed base with the artwork displayed to the dealer who had sold it to me, who had themselves tried to secure the base without success, and the dealer were impressed at how beautifully it turned out. In short, where others saw impossibility, Mike saw opportunities for a creative solution, and also charged so reasonably for all of his valuable expertise and craftsmanship. Been going here for awhile. Have had a bunch of orders with them. Easily spent thousands. Today is the last day. The work is sloppy and unprofessional. Constantly forgetting orders. Acrylic boxes where the back is the incorrect size, then they say thats just the way it is. Why would anyone want an acrylic box where the back edge hangs over 1/8 to 1/4 inch? Also have gotten boxes where the router has dug into the acrylic and they've tried to polish it out to hide it. You guys should of made things right. You've now lost thousands. read more

I can't help but feel the people who have given such negative reviews of this place aren't familiar with the process of ordering custom acrylic pieces. In my experience, this place has delivered on time, per specifications, and at the lowest price I've been able to find. They do offer frosted acrylic, but they don't keep it in stock. When I ordered some 2'x3' single side frosted panels they had them in and cut for me within 3 days. On a previous job for a design studio, they provided smaller acrylic pieces with drilled holes for mounting on stand-offs for a sign. Worked perfectly. Just a word of advice: if you find a problem with your order let them know so they have a chance to make it right. read more

I called a couple of places in the area for a somewhat simple job. This place had the best price, and was the easiest to deal with over the phone (spoke with Mike). I walked in, handed over my dimensions, talked about options, and left 23 minutes later with what I needed at a great price! Awesome. While I was waiting, I looked over the custom pieces they'd fabricated and realized they do some pretty awesome stuff. Now I've decided to create a kitchen island as I couldn't find one in the right size for my space. Looking forward to working with them again. read more

The person who helped me was very patient and worked with me to help me plan out how the window would be placed on the frame. The other place was EXPENSIVE as well... these guys charged me only $13 to cut 4 sheets and were really friendly as well over the phone. I have used this place twice. The first time was a few years ago when I bought an acrylic table. Good price, and the work was very good, and the price was as reasonable I could find. Still love it! Coming up on Dec. of last year, I needed a case for an old book I wanted to to give a friend for Christmas. They pulled it off in time, and despite a rework for the stand for the book that was attached to the bottom, they still got it done on time. I'm very happy with this place. It's street parking only, and if the spaces are taken, you might have to park a block away. I would have given them 5 stars if they had a parking lot. read more

I had an acrylic display cover built for a large collectible model display. It was a rather large cover about 3 feet by 1.5 feet by 1.5 feet made from 1/4-in acrylic. The cover was built exactly to specs but after taking it home and illuminating it from within with LED lighting I discovered many fine scratches on many of the surfaces as if it had been scrubbed roughly to clean it. I should have returned it but didn't want the hassle and the haggle. read more

I called California Acrylic Designs to have a custom made acrylic coffee table made after a bad experience with another fabricator in New Jersey that did a horrible job, sending me a table covered in glue bubbles. Anyway, I talked to Mike about my concerns and told him what happened with the table I ordered from the other guy and he explained what went wrong with the construction and glues etc... and got my trust. I looked at some of his designs and ordered a table in a custom size. It was finished in about 6 weeks just like he told me and it is BEAUTIFUL! What a difference from the piece of crap I recieved from the other guy. Perfectly clear, no bubbles whatsoever and exactly what I wanted. I am so very happy and proud of this custom made piece of furniture! I showed it to a friend of mine who is an interior decorator and she is going to use California Acrylic Designs whenever she has a client who wants acrylic furniture. I cannot express enough my level of satisfaction with these guys. They worked with me on a very specialized home project that required special orders, custom design and fabrication, and then when it wouldn't fit in my small SUV, home delivery. Everything installed perfectly - due to custom design and variable measurements, I was expecting some minor design/installation problems that would require secondary correction, but that was not necessary.
