First off, this isn't so much a review of the Encinitas branch as it is California Coats Credit Union's call center, wherever that is. While I lived in North County San Diego, I had nothing but good things to say about California Coast. But things have taken a 180 since I moved out of state and what happened today is the prime reason why. I called to find out whether a check had cleared. After a shortish wait, I spoke to an attendant who could not verify my number because it wasn't accepted by some Experian system they recently starting using to verify numbers. This despite the fact that I've had the same cell number for more than 20 years and have used the same phone to check my balance several times. So then I had to talk to a manager. Of course I want to get this number thing fixed so I don't have to go through a manager every time I want information about my account. The manager tells me there is no way to fix this issue. None. And that every time I call in the future I'll have to go through someone in management to retrieve the information I want. He said that there was no way it could be any other way. Period. I have the feeling that this is more about forcing people to use California Coast's online banking, which is much more susceptible to hacking, than any new telephone tracing system they have. What a pain in the butt. read more

And then another group comes in and the teller tells me that she has to take the group first just because they have an appointment. All I needed was to pull some cash out which takes like 5 mins, but she couldn't even take me first. Thanks for easing my time. read more

The bankers are always friendly, and professional. The office is nice and comfortable, featuring different art from local artists on a regular basis. And best of all, at this particular location is my favorite banker of all, the manager, James, he is always Johnny on the spot to get things done in a timely manner, and goes out of his way to help out and even solve problems. This is my local branch that I use for all my needs and the team here is amazing. The branch manager Christy and her team always make me feel like I am a VIP / part of the family. When I got my car loan and home equity loan they made the process seamless and were up front and transparent about everything including how long I could expect the process to take and what my rates would be. I couldn't ask for more and can't say enough about the level of service they provide. In banking when the products are all basically the same- it's the service that sets them apart. If zero stars were an option I'd give it to them. The dealer suggested this bank for my car loan but it has been nothing but a nightmare. First, someone mysteriously has my social the day after my credit report is run for the loan. After digging I've found out they are where my SSN was compromised. Also, you have to hand walk a check in each month, cannot autopay unless you bank with them. I'm moving to NorCal in a couple months and will have to refi my car months after going through all this so I can pay my car payment online and not have to mail a check like it is 1975. read more

I have been a member of California Credit Union for many years. Financial surprises and wise decisions can be stressful at times. Over the years I have always felt that those employed at California Coast Credit Union are extremely proficient in finding financial solutions. Recently, after a rain storm, my roof was leaking into my home. It was determined that the roof needed immediate replacement. I like to live debt-free and had paid off my car a couple of months prior to the rain storm. I had not seen the need to have excess cash on hand. Nor did I want credit card debt as I am retired. Jame Mejia, the California Coast Branch Manager in Encinitas, who is always helpful, greeted me a the door! I told him my dilemma. He immediately sat down with me and brainstormed all possible solutions for quick cash. James showed me all the options and explained the time lines involved. He suggested, as I needed to reroof my house right away, that I use the collateral in my car for a personal loan which would have a minimal interest rate as well. I didn't know that was possible. James, the Branch manager helped me set the process in motion. A day later the loan was approved. I then received immediate additional assistance from Jay Vin at the Encinitas Branch completing the forms for the loan. I left California Coast with an additional $20,000 in my checking account to cover the cost of the new roof at a 1.30% interest rate. I was so happy. I also learned a valuable lesson about having quicker access to personal funds. I did think I had access to cash, if needed. But, I did not have quick enough access. My teenage son had his ATM card inexplicably deactivated for the second time since opening his account a few months ago. This morning I took him in to try to rectify the situation. The woman, whom I believe was the asst branch manager, was so incredibly rude and condescending. I had no idea how to explain her behavior to my son who, understandably, took it personally. It took everything I had not climb over that table. This is my son's first account, he did nothing wrong, yet we were treated like the fault was ours. If, by chance, you (employee in question) are reading this, you might try being more understanding and professional and less combative and rude. read more

The worst customer service. Had to wait on hold for 20 minutes for a representative. I have a new loan however I have not received any statements or payment information for the loan. I called to inquire and find out my loan number. After going through multiple question to verify my identity such as my Social Security number the last branch that I have visited the make and model for my vehicle for the loan as well as my employers name and my position I was told they cannot give me my account information over the phone and I have to visit a branch. What is this the 1980s? I verified my identity wasted 35 minutes of my time and I can't get my own account number emailed to me faxed to me or over the phone? I will be transferring my loan. What a major inconvenience. With The technology we have at our fingertips such as texting a code to verify my identity you would think that they could do better. You've lost a customer. read more

Had such an awesome experience at this branch. I was applying for auto loans and based on the year of the car I was trying to buy it was difficult. The ladies worked literally all day to get me this loan so I could get to work the next day. I was in a rough patch and was dealing with a lot in my personal life at the time and these ladies comforted and counseled me through one of the most stressful times of my life. I am so disappointed with this business. I bought a car almost two weeks ago and the dealership highly highly recommend this credit union for financing based on my credit history, income, credit score and reputation. I was told today that California Coast rejected me only because I was "a first time buyer with them". They also told Toyota to "get her into a rav4" instead of the 4Runner that I had purchased through them. Interestingly enough... I was trading in a 2013 rav4 that was purchased with cash brand new in 2013. I am so glad that I bank with Mission Federal Credit Union instead of this organization. It is disappointing that they would rather not do business with a person who paid cash for their last, brand new car (at the dealership) who is looking to upgrade.... a person who also has a stellar credit score and an excellent job with more than the required income for this purchase. shame on your organization for making a snap judgement on a person based on the fact that I have never financed a vehicle because I was able to afford a new one and didn't need to finance. I plan to never do business with this organization. Also thank you to Toyota Carlsbad who agreed to finance me with California Coast's quoted APR after the fact... they were great! California coast did not demonstrate good business practices and I plan to tell my friends and acquaintances to avoid them at all costs. read more

While I am not a huge fan of CCCU as a whole, one the Encinitas employees, Chris H., has been so helpful that I have stayed a member. If I have questions or concerns, I call him or visit his branch. He is always polite and friendly and does his best to assist in all situations. Even though there is a branch closer to my home, I drive further to ensure that I can get someone who is helpful and courteous. The employees at other branches have not been in the past. I give Chris 5 stars and CCCU 3, which is why I gave a 4 overall. It's amazing how one great experience can keep a client. read more
