I have worked with multiple banks in my life, and CCCU is easily the worst I've experienced. An online platform that is out of date, restrictions on how much of my own money I can transfer between accounts in a day, ponderous procedures for transferring to another bank and if you try to call in, expect at least 15 minutes on hold before you get anyone on the line. I was in the branch on Saturday morning and the branch manager Larry Fagan was rude and unprofessional. I completed a sale of a vehicle to which the buyer wanted to get a cashiers check for a paper trail. Minutes later.. I asked the teller to cash the cashiers check, and was told by the branch manager that they would not cash it because I'm a non-member. This is to commend Larry Fagan, Branch Manager, Poway, CA for stellar Customer Service. We have been members for 45+ years. We relocated to San Antonio recently and prefer to keep our long-standing relationship with Cal Coast. We live in unprecedented times for sure and I have discovered that the banking system does not have the flexibility of yesteryear. We can thank the Dot.Com era, scammers and other unscrupulous actors for that. But I digress. On more than one occasion over the past few months, Larry demonstrated genuine care and concern for his Customer; he helped me conduct business with Cal Coast remotely. Today, Larry took the extra time to advise that an "In-Network" credit union here in San Antonio may provide a solution when I need to conduct business locally. I know that I can rely on Larry to create solutions for his Customer. Because of him, it is comforting to know that in an emergency, I have a local credit union resource. Cannot give negative stars unfortunately, but that is what they should have. I came to make a deposit here on Tuesday April 14th at 1pm. Only 2 other customers entered/exited the bank during my transaction time, clearly not a busy time of day or the week etc. 4 tellers were at their stations. Near the end of my deposit, a looming man with an intense scowl halted the teller from finalizing the deposit. This deposit was for my elementary school's nonprofit book fundraiser for children, which we have only one annually, (with the majority of the money we process ourselves via credit cards), this is simply the triple pre-counted cash and check portion. He proceeded to berate me for bringing in a deposit that "took the teller's time." I was thoroughly confused, as a bank's job is to basically receive/deal with money, or so I thought. I asked what I was supposed to do with the money I had been personally holding on to for our school, and he repeated himself multiple times scolding me for 'impeding his customers' -- I apologized (although again, there were only 2 customers other than myself during the entirety), as I was shocked and quite honestly, frightened at this large man chastising me for making a simple transaction. I asked him what he would like me to do, even though I pointed out that only 2 other customers had been in the bank during the period I was there, which left other tellers literally with no customers to help at all and just sat there waiting. He continued to verbally shame me, raising his voice that he was THE BRANCH MANAGER and had THE POWER to not let me make my elementary school deposit. I felt embarrassed, shamed, afraid, and against my control unfortunately, started to cry. At this point he uttered more angry words under his loud breath and stomped away. The teller helping me tried to apologize for the uncalled for verbally abusive actions of this man/'branch manager," but all I could do is hold out my hand for the receipt and dash away with my eyes to the floor as I leaked tears everywhere from being yelled at unprovoked. Our school nonprofit has faithfully deposited with this bank for decades upon decades, and as soon as the covid19 orders are lifted enough for us to close our account, we certainly will be due to this "BRANCH MANAGER'S" verbal tantrum. We are beyond unhappy with this insanely horrific service and recommend others find absolutely ANY other facility possible to place their hard earned money into, other than this degrading so-called 'bank' that has a BRANCH MANAGER with a personal vendetta with deposits. read more

Let me tell you why Carmie Holguín's service, at the Poway branch, was one of the best experiences I've had with CCCU in the last 4 years. I've called CCCU over the phone and visited another local branch several times in the last 7 days, in an effort to get an ACH issue resolved between Paypal and the Credit Union, which turned out to be a Catch-22 type situation, where Paypal couldn't help me, and CCCU had limited options as well, all while I as the customer incurred $600+ in fees that I was just trying to stop from the beginning of this whole fiasco with Paypal. I went into this Poway location yesterday as a last ditch effort, and right away noticed that Carmie's sign said "Branch Senior", which tells me that she's been doing this a while. And believe me, it showed. Right away, she offered me an alternative solution, which NO ONE, out of the 5-8 people I'd spoken to in the last week had even thought to offer me, to quickly resolve my issue. She then took the time to call another department, to make sure it was being done correctly, and then walked me through what we would be doing, and double checked to make sure that I understood exactly what to do, not in a condescending way, but in a genuinely helpful manner. It meant so much to me that she was so good at what she does, and she remained kind and patient in explaining it to me. I sincerely hope that Carmie's boss can take this into account when discussing compensation $$$ for this employee, because THESE are the type of people your branch needs---helpful, kind, genuine people, that actually make me want to come back. I am done... I started with this credit union when it was called "Teachers Credit Union" in 1994. I loved it. They were welcoming and it felt like a great honor and privilege to be a member. I recommended many people to join and was so happy with them for years. With that said, the past few years have been a struggle. You are no longer a member, your once again a number, like a bank. I will say that the branches are fine, but this is for the main call center and corporate offices at 9201 Spectrum Center Blvd #300, San Diego, CA 92123. They have simply drove this company into the ground and have made so many bad choices that I am forced to stop doing business with them. In particular, the Fraud Department is managed by Kim Reeves and she has no backbone and is spite full. If you challenge her and ask for her manager she will freeze your account and all your mobile access and ATM access. They will tell you that there is a NSF check on your account although having access to the issuing banks records you can see that they were paid. She is condescending and I truly hope that Gary Atkinson, the Board of Directors, will look into her actions. Quite frankly, they do not care nowadays that you will leave their "Bank". No more, they are no longer concerned about the members, they are "to big to fail". I feel bad for the branch employee's and managers as they do have a genuine concern for your financial health & customer satisfaction along with the few front line customer service rep's on the help line. I urge you to look into an alternative choice especially if you are Military or DOD. USAA and Navy Federal Credit Union have some great programs and options. 23 years, Kim Reeves. I hate this bank! They promise that their mobile deposit will work at 3am but how convenient it's broken... Someone from their customer service contacted me today offering to speak with a manager?!? What's the point now? This bank is too small to provide decent customer service and was closed all weekend. My other bank was open. The manager of this branch yelled at my sister until she broke down in tears just because my sister brought in a large cash deposit and this primitive place apparently doesn't have a bill counter. She works for a non-profit and was holding the money from an event that came to an abrupt close because of the coronavirus. There's no excuse for this man's cruelty. I recently had a bad experience which the credit union acknowledged it was their error. Contacted the CEO Todd Lane on LinkedIn and never even got an acknowledgment. Good management starts at the top and if the CEO cannot even respond then what hope do I have with the employees? For such a well know company I find this to be very unprofessional and appalling. Like to add an update. Todd Lane has now reached out to me and I am very pleased to say I was very impressed. He explained why he did not respond and he has resolved my concern with no further issues. I appreciated him sorting this out so promptly. It's just a shame it had to get this far up the ladder. I still feel the staff could have handled this differently so as far as that goes my 2 stars stands but as far as Todd is concerned he gets the 5 stars. I had an awful experience with a bank teller yesterday. I went in with a debit card that had a bad chip. I needed to replace it but with same numbers as I have things that are automatically deducted and didn't want a whole new card, just a chip that works. After a long wait of her hmmmming and hawing, I finally got a new card and was asked to make sure it works at the ATM machine outside. The card didn't work as it said the PIN number was not correct. I went back in to let her know and her only way to respond was that I must not know my PIN number even though I very much did as I've had the same one for a while now. She specifically said "I know you want to believe you know the number." Then she also told me that there was nothing wrong with the card that I brought in (even though I couldn't use it anywhere). She was making me feel and sound like I was crazy and gave me a phone number to change my PIN number. I did this and left the bank and looked at my new card that how has a different expiration date and security codes on the back. Maybe that's why the PIN didn't work because she gave me a new card which was exactly what I requested not to have. She didn't even look at it to see if she was the one that made a mistake and instead just accusing me of being insane. I then called the manager and she absolutely could care less about my bad experience. We've been a customer for a long time and I just can't wait to say goodbye to this place. They certainly don't train their bank tellers on proper customer service. read more

That's it! I travel a lot and I have to make frequent transfers between my checking and savings account. Unfortunately Cccu limits these transfers to 6! Now I am sitting here in a foreign country can't fill my checking account as the limit of 6 is reached not telling that they leveled my account with minor amounts but therefore charging me now for each purchase transaction $27! Instead they advising to show up at a branch to do any further transactions. How should I do this from a foreign country! They stole during he course of the last 6 month roughly $600 through this method. I am done and go back to Chase. I thought I get a more local friendly treatment but I was wrong! read more

I've been a member for over 30 years but I'm getting concerned about the security. My credit card has been compromised at least 5 times in the last 4 years, the last time was 10 days ago. I was called by security about the latest charge which I denied, they canceled the card yet the charges still appeared on my account. When I called the credit union I was told I had to come into a branch and fill out a form disputing those charges which was not told to me before. Also, I'm the Trustee of a separate account and never get any statements on this account. When I inquired about this the answer was I should get a statement quarterly, 1 year later never received a statement. The only way I know if it is still active I have to log in to check the balance which I'm not sure anymore if it is still there. Looking for another institution to secure my money, so sorry, guess they've lost their way,, read more

I do not recommend this credit union (California Coast, any branch) to anyone, and I completely agree with the other several bad reviews. Previously I left a bad review and it mysteriously disappeared. This credit union is not run professionally. They cannot be trusted to treat customers well. For example, they want every detail of trips you make, even short ones, because otherwise they'll deny or freeze your cards so they don't work. You can end up on the side of the road with no gas because of their mistakes and demands. It is like living in Russia and reporting to Big Brother. They make mistakes very often, too. The credit union used to be good but was taken over by another and is terrible now. Do not waste your time putting your money in this one. You will regret it. read more

Oh, what a GREAT branch!!! I've had to go there for numerous services, including opening a new account for my son. They were so helpful to him (and FAST to help us), and their follow-up was great to get him started on his first account. Any time I've gone in there, they're friendly, wait time is little to none (depending on traffic inside), and it's the branch I'll go out of my way to go to if I need to go in to the credit union rather than use an ATM.
