All my teachers are awesome, professional and helpful. The campus is very beautiful. I agree that some students are kind of loud in class, but they are not stupid and are interested in learning. Parking is a breeze, and the CSUDH bar lounge is my new best friend :) The majority of people who go here are working lower class so I think that is why there isn't much time (or money) for students to do extracurricular activities. I've been here for a semester and still haven't had a good experience. One problem is the financial aid office. The lady that was there didn't even bother explaining to me the problem, she pretty much said "you're not getting financial aid" instead of explaining to me how to solve my problem she just stood there quietly . I think that Dominguez needs better staff there. It took me 2 years to be able to transfer to Dominguez from cerritos college, there was always something wrong. i didnt know what i was missing or what i did wrong. I just feel like Dominguez doesn't want me there. Also, the restrooms are filthy!! I hated that whenever i had to go there wasn't any toilet paper or they smelled really bad. Come on! I am a student of African Descent, it's my 4th year at DH, and I will be so happy to leave this poor excuse of a campus. I came to DH in Fall 2015, straight out of high school, hoping CSUDH would be the college for me and it was a let down. I am disappointed that DH did not help or appreciate their students of African descent, particularly their Black men. I understand they want to aid all ethnicity backgrounds, but they show no interest towards African-descent students. The only place I always go to is the Black Resource Center on the first floor in LSU. That is the only place where most African descent students to feel safe and connected. If you are interested in joining any organization of the Divine Nine, they don't allow them to do a probate ceremony to introduce the new line. Only crossing ceremonies, and that is not for the public to see. I was interested in joining but DH don't have the fraternities of the Divine Nine. They only have Latino or Multicultural based fraternities; in addition, I show great appreciation towards the other fraternities at DH but I would feel out of place if I consider joining them. read more

If i could I would rate this school negative numbers. I would like to express my concern to the Office of Admissions at California State University, Dominguez Hills. Someone in the Office of Admissions is not providing correct information to students. I attempted multiple times to sign into my CSUDH student portal, but for some reason I was not able to do so. I had called Admissions to find out why this was happening,. They did not receive my call until 45 minutes after I called them. When I finally got connected to a representative, she had told me that the reason why I could not sign in was because my application was revoked. She said it was because I had not completed 60 units by spring semester. I was very devastated to hear this news. Excited for my future journey I had completed all of my requirements, attended orientation, and even registered for my classes all without being notified that my application could have been revoked. Every representative I spoke to told me something different. I had called the Office of Admission once again and asked the representative why I was not informed of my application being revoked and he simply said that it took a while for transcripts to be processed and after going through my transcripts they revoked my application. Please be advised that I turned in my transcripts three times. Once in late April, and twice in June. The representative told me that it takes 6-8 weeks for transcripts to be processed. Meaning, my transcripts should have been processed far before June and I should have been notified of the possible revoking of my application before my semester had ended. The representative had also mentioned to me that the reason why they took so long to process my application was because they were waiting on final grades to be posted before they made their final decision. This made no sense to me because my grades were not the reason why my application was revoked. My application was revoked because I did not have 60 completed units by Spring not because of my grades. Anyone could have easily added up my total units and informed me of the consequences. This would have given me enough time to fix the issue before my application was revoked. What I could not understand was that if the issue was my units, and that is a requirement for CSUDH, why was I admitted? When applying, all students are required to enter all classes and the number of units are visibly present in the application for anyone to see. When I applied to CSUDH I had even mentioned that I would be taking a class in the summer to complete my required 60 transferable units. On top of that, during Spring semester I called CSUDH and told them the same thing and they said that as long as I have completed my Golden 4, I would be okay. To think that was not enough, I even attended orientation. During orientation, I met with an adviser and asked them if it was okay to take a class during summer and they told me it was. After meeting with adviser, I was satisfied because I had the impression that I completed all the requirements to attend this university. I was also informed that I could write an appeal on this subject that would reinstate my admission. That seems extremely impossible because the representative I spoke to told me that I need to send in my summer transcripts. Having previous experience with the transcript processing system at this university, I already know that I will not be "readmitted" until after the semester has begun. I hope you realize that this is a big issue and someones future is at stake. I am a very concerned student who needs answers. CSUDH not informing me makes me concerned for the rest of my fellow students. I had other CSU's as places to attend, but I chose CSUDH because it was one of my dream schools. It is very disappointing to know that a school you dreamed to go to, has revoked you application and provided you with false information. I now have nowhere else to transfer to. I have to stay at my community college for another year all because the people at CSUDH have provided me with false information. I am hoping this email reaches someone who is able to help me with my situation. CSUDH needs to fix their contacting system. It is absoluntley ridiculous to wait on the line for 45 minutes to speak to a representative. read more

I am in my 3rd year Junior year here at Cal State Dominguez Hills majoring in Computer Technology ( Bachelors Of Arts). I work here as well as a Student Assistant at the Library and overall enjoy the atmosphere here. However if you are looking for a party school look somewhere else as this is not the place. Classes here are laid back but you have to do a lot of independent learning but of course that's college life. Do not rely on professors to teach you everything.Some professors are excellent while some are unpleasant tha'ts how it is in every college and Dominguez Hills is no exception. Many people quickly judge this school simply because of the appearance and because they want to be with their friends after high school or transferring out of CC. Do not let this influence you as this is a golden mine I dug up. The school offers internships on campus for IT majors which is Computer Technology in this case and that is very convenient as I will be interning next semester in the IT Department. The Campus is safe, I meet lots of beautiful women, I have grown up in this environment, and professors are okay. The food on campus is tasty like the Toros Take Out, Taco Bell, wing Wednesdays, and the bar. Doesn't get any better than this. I am not a party person and if anything I look for parties but off campus and spend time with my friends but off campus. I'm here to get a degree mostly. I don't have so much friends due to the difficult interactions with people here but find beautiful elegant women to take out on a couple dates every now and then. And I do my own independent learning outside of class. Pros - Professors are laid back - Internships offered on campus for Computer Students - Beautiful environment and women to interact with. - Close to home - Good tuition offer - 4 year accredited University - Fancy Food Court - Small classes which is convineint for me in my case - Non competitive school to attend - Good Weather - Gameroom, clean campus, student jobs ( work on campus, its very relaxing) - not expensive compare to other campuses - Theres always a parking space somewhere. - Quiet Library Cons - Some people here are rude and immature especially those who are in a sports team - Its difficult to interact with alot of students here. - Its one of the lower tier Cal States. - Small campus ( although this is not a con for me but for many students but I feel my campus is big) - Dorms ( I dormed here before you mostly meet people here who act like high schoolers so I hated the dorms alot) - Dead campus ( My life takes place off campus if you want action and lots of things to do and learn look at another school not here) - its not a worldwide recognized school, many people do not know about this school its really good to attend. There admissions is just horrible... 30-40min wait line to be cut off in less than a minute. I recently got admitted to CSUDH as a transfer student. I applied to 4 schools including this one and this is the only school who jotted me down as a non Cali resident. All the other schools had me as a Cali resident except this school. Even my fafsa had me as a Cali resident LOL. I got my financial aid letter suggesting the amounts I was applicable for and right there it said NON resident. Of course I called to fix it and a girl picked up very monotone until I explained my issue she said to fill out a form and prove with documentation that I was from here. When I suggested her they might have done my application wrong she went from monotone to girl hold my purse tone. She said that I did my applications wrong and that it was my error. They go based on CSUapply blah blah. I told her okay good cause these 3 other schools have me right except you guys she stayed quiet and just said to fill out the form email it with my documents and I should be u set review. Well forget that I would assume Cali id or birth certificate no they want 12 bank statements 12 pay subs and voter registration form etc forget this school with the whole covid-19 they got there admit all over the place or something not sure. When I tell people of the college I attend, the usual response is "Which Cal state?" "Oh, Where's that?" and when I tell them where it's located, I usually get the "Why do you go there?" attitude comment or the "oh..isn't that like right next to Compton?" and then the confused facial expressions. I agree, it's definitely not one of the more known schools in California, but I feel that that makes this school a true hidden gem. The small quaint campus gives a very cozy, homey feel without feeling too out of place. Yes, it's kinda weird going to a school where you're definitely a minority, but it's also an amazing experience! You meet so many different people, from different backgrounds, in different places in life and the teachers & professors here are attentive. The classes aren't overwhelming at all, but with recent budget cuts, our class sizes that were 30 students are now rapidly approaching 40. Other than that, its a definite commuter school, not a lot of frats & sororities to join, clubs and fellowships aren't exactly plentiful either. But an overall good place to get a college degree! read more

While I agree with many of the statements re. the both the scale of the school, and its incredible anonymity, I have to state that I have never experienced such incredible ineptitude with regards to my records. Bottom line- if there is no financial gain involved for the school, then there is no basis for them to be proactive in their actions. I was never told- BY ANYONE - that I was one of the handful of majors still requiring a minor-15 extra units!! (this requirement has now been lifted for new students).I guess it was my fault for not reading the 500 page catalog front to back. My colleagues were also correct in stating that as a commuter college, most students like myself work full time. What is problematic is the fact that many of the schools facilities run 9-5 (but not the cashier's office!). Also, be ready to do all of your own follow up, as they have failed to upload additional courses I have been forced to take at other institutions because of lack of availability, and fully immerse them in to my academic record. Last, when I initially began my career at the school, they failed to mention I was missing a class. Now a month away from graduation, I am forced to take an undergraduate course & prolong my graduation. If you enjoy DIY taken to new heights, then CSUDH is for you! read more

this school may look good from the outside but there isn't much on the inside. the teachers are cool but the students here are ghetto. classroom sizes are adequate in that most of them hold about 60-70 seats. living on its campus isn't much of a thrill either. the dorms are locked down with gated security. their are barely any decent looking females, no air conditioning, and not to mention scary looking possums all around the dorms. any type of parties will get broken up in a matter of seconds. i regret not enrolling in fullerton or long beach. read more

I have an AS-T (associate FOR TRANSFER specifically) in Business Administration from a CA community college. Under SB1440 act this guaranteed admission to a CSU with the "golden four" met and as junior status. I was accepted to CSUDH, I attended business advising, I had a complete fall '15 schedule in place. I decided to check my csudh webportal, to my absolute shock my schedule was gone, my admission revoked. I had done everything required, all transcripts sent in, deadlines met, etc. Of course, I called and was told one of my golden four was not fulfilled based on csudh evaluators syllabus evaluation. Okay, well if I have been awarded a verified AS-T from CA community college, that really does not add up. What is even more messed up, is DH never contacted me, or said there may be a syllabus issue you need to appeal or this may not be valid, just *poof* dropped classes, admission revoked. Completely unacceptable with a verified AS-T. What is the point of a FOR-TRANSFER degree with an Act even backing it, if DH can claim they're not accepting a course as a "golden four", let alone not even contact the student--just wait until the student finds out on their own. Thank god I had not moved to Carson, as I live in San Diego. SDSU with only 31% acceptance rate did just accept me as a late acceptance, so thank god I can accept my admission there, but if DH were my ONLY option this would have set me back an entire year and really for a debatable reason that doesn't align with an AS-T. Too bad, I was excited for DH and thought it was a cool place for older students/small classes, I even was willing to commute. But, this is a royal fu*k up DH. Really, not okay. An AS-T guarantees these are fulfilled, why else would the SB1440 act exist. Future students, be aware of this. read more

Just horrible. They'll take your money but they won't help you with classes. Classes say that they are open, but they aren't. Clearly there are seats in the room but the professors won't take extra work. The famous is beautiful, that's the 1 star. I been attending for 3 semesters and I still can't get into an anatomy class. I love this school! Seriously, people need to stop talking so much crap before even trying out the school . I've been here 3 years, always get the classes i want (even when wait listed). This school has so much financial aid to give out, and I love that also. I got a job here as an RA, get to meet a bunch people, network and have fun. There is no other school i'd rather be at. The only reason why I didnt give it a 5 star is because the major I originally wanted isn't offered here. Since I had earned my BSN from this University I felt it was a good choice for earning my MSN-Educator as well. What a mistake! While the tuition is reasonable for an on-line program, most of the courses were not applicable to my focus as an educator and many of the on-line instructors approached the program from an undergraduate level. The lack of understanding that most students in the program come with a wealth of professional experience made the courses tiresome and without use for the future. I learned from the reliance on group work that this approach in distance learning can negatively influence grades and the ability to fully understand the content of the courses. If you are interested in getting information not automatically on the platform and need to communicate with anyone in the University--forget it. I never had either timely or any responses to my questions or complaints either by email, phone, or letter from either course instructors, director of the program, or administration of the University. Save up your money and find another University. read more

So I'm a transfer student from Santa Monica College, I'm a business major with a concentration in information systems. Less about me more about my experience, my first semester there I was excited especially the first weeks of being a university student until I started noticing a lack of genuine support for their students. I have many reasons to back up this observation. One i was at that time struggling financially and was actually couch surfing with friends so I never had a home at that time. I reached out to the school for any resources to help me out because I felt compelled to drop out, but I didn't want to give up. They would just send me around to different departments, handing me over like a burden I had to be delt with. They never really helped me out with my state they would just hand me pamphlets and say oh you can go here they help blah blah. I was like this isn't getting me anywhere so I just decided to look for work on campus but the staff was late on getting back to me about my status until weeks gone by and tell me my application was withdrawn, so I decided to look for jobs off campus. When it came to eat, the bar/food place was filled with rude staff.Given my current financial state I was always broke to afford real meals and I remember ordering some fries because it was cheap and I was asking the girl what was cheap and good in their menu and she was like "I eat real food" So I felt that remark very disparaging given my current state. Then upon getting my food I had ordered a sauce and they didn't add it so I asked for it and she was like "I can't put it you opened it already" I was thinking was I not supposed to open it and notice it. I was like no big deal and then she proceeded to give me a bad attitude and I just left. I also had bad experiences with proffesors where they act unprofessional. The whole college experience should be a place where you feel safe, secured where you feel encouraged but I felt discouraged and it would affect my self esteem. read more

Administration is awful. CSUDH students truly get to experience what it is like to be accepted because of their tuition payment. It is impossible to get any help from the school, this includes e-mail responses from financial aid and other offices. Mistakes are rampant and costly to the student. DO NOT opt for this university. I have never been around the most unmotivated professors. It seems like they are only here to collect their check. This is not USC, so expectations are far less than going to top notch universities. This place charges for everything, so be prepared to pay for parking, tuition, meals, apartment, gas, books and anything else that you need. If you want it easy at school, this is the place to come to. I have talked to students who have made it in with less than a 2.5 GPA and low SAT scores. I felt like it was an extension of high school. You will graduate, that's how easy it is at this state school. No need to hustle or study extra hard. You don't believe me, ask yourself why the other top schools didn't take these students. I had my car broken into and where was security? Nowhere to be found. This place was hell for many students, but we were trapped here until we were able to transfer out. WHAT A JOKE!! Please, do NOT waste your money here. If you are looking for an easy out or just a degree.. be my guest or you could save yourself gas money and go to Phoenix University Online. Some of the programs at this school are not accredited(maybe none of them are)and when they're not it is going to be a waste of time. I wish someone would have told me that this school was not accredited and that I would require a masters degree from a better University only to make as much money as someone with a bachelor's degree. Now that I have repeated that this school is not accredited, let me tell you about some of the staff and faculty. Time and time again, I have encountered uneducated people working here and doing less than a half a^% job. Where do I even begin...hmm How about financial aid? If you double major please be advised that the University may tell you last minute that you are over your unit cap. Not only that but if you attempt to speak to someone about it over the phone, your efforts will be futile.The staff on the phone constantly interrupts and will only listen to the sound of their own voice. Here is the situation, I was awarded financial aid for a whole year and then as the spring semester was about to start they revoke it. HELLO!!! I am a double major with a superb G.P.A. Financial aid knew this as they have records of all the students academic progress, major, etc. This is not something they found out last minute. They insisted I was over my unit cap and that was that until I fought it. I had to go through a long tedious process to do so and it took a few weeks into the semester to finally get the help I needed. Admissions and Records, removed one of my majors completely just because I switched one of the areas of concentration on one of them. I don't understand who they have training these employees or what is going on, but that is just unacceptable. This is not something a student should have to bring up to the University. They also failed to update my academic progress report period. This meant I had to go tell them not once, not twice, but three times that I was about to graduate and that needed my records updated so I could do so. Professors, they sometimes don't give you what you pay for. There have been so many times when I have taken a test only to find that the answers that should have been marked as correct were not. I really wanted to learn something at this school but when the Professors is argue and insist that they are correct(with nothing to back it up) and no one else is(when they are wrong), is such a joke. I found myself in so many instances were I changed my grade because I looked up the correct answer and I proved I was right. I felt I could teach a class there. What a joke. HOWEVER, there are some Professors that are extremely helpful, genuine, caring and do teach. They are the exception to the rule and I think they deserve to work in a place were they will be paid a lot more. I have a few Professors that I can't thank enough, which is why this review get 2 stars. I wish them the best and I hope they get promoted, a raise or get offered a job at a real University. Anyways, if you want a good education don't go here. If you just need a degree to hang on your wall, be my guest. I would post more, but it's such a hassle. Keep track of everything you do, who you speak to , etc. It is your future and every student deserves a good one. I had my heart set on USC for my Master's in Occupational Therapy, and I was probably going to get in. I went here instead, because it was cheaper and I got in. It's a commuter school and some people drive in for hours. For some reason, I met an individual who found herself driving in from Vista, in North San Diego County, so campus life might be kind of dead. I ran into people coming from Vista at Santa Ana College too, so this poor soul is not alone in having a long commute. Watch out for things on the jogging trail like people sad, there is a lot of trash there that needs to get picked up. There is also wild animals like coyotes. Stay on the trail, because going off any trail is a good way to get a rattlesnake. There is a sign there that says rattlesnakes have been seen in the area. As a student and a runner, this campus is good. It is also not $130,000 to get a Master's degree in OT, although it is still not USC and does not have the amazing County USC Medical Complex, which I must say is state of the art. read more

Although I graduated with my Master's in Pupil Personnel back in 1982, when Dr. Charmaine Bowman was Director of the program, and School Psychologist was just added to the program, I can honestly say that I had an outstanding education and experience! My professors weren't just brilliant and proven, they still bore a sense of care and compassion that is seldom seen anymore. Because of this, I was more motivated, moved, and successful in my program, and went on to become the happiest and most competent school counselor I've ever known! I can say this as I just retired this summer, and did so reluctantly. I absolutely loved my job, and I can thank Cal State Dominguez for the incredible launch they gave me! I am only sorry the national status of the coveted "CACREP" appears to be missing. I don't think any university could have prepared me better. Whatever CSDHU did not teach me, being on the job for over 30 years did! Test me and see for yourself! Cal State Dominguez deserves the proper accreditation! read more

Unfortunately I can not rate the campus and instruction as I did not and will not be attending there. This is my response to a message sent me after admissions dropped me from my classes one week before they started because I had not had College Board send them my AP score from years earlier in high school. I am a transfer. That (I was told to reapply for the next fall on January 3rd and I was initially applying for the previous fall) is a load of c**p and probably why your institution is one of the least reputable in the state. I will not be applying again, for your school would simply make further mistakes and thus force me to transfer to an institution that can simply say "you need to send in your SAT scores from college board by this date." Saying that your deadlines were "clearly available" is utter lunacy. I called your school (as it doesn't deserve the nomenclature of institution in the sense of a place of learning) so many times trying to figure out what that hold was, that I ended up making my own directory. I also did the same with email and only got a response when I said "F**king Respond" and even then the "answer" was not clear enough for me to fulfill what you were attempting to communicate. Enjoy your budget cuts of which I will vote for both directly and indirectly. read more

No complaints about the school itself that you wouldn't hear about any other public university. Administration is slow and inefficient and if you ask 5 different clerks the same question you're likely to get 5 different answers. It's a public university; you get what you get. However, after living in on-campus housing from August 2013 to May 2014, I can say that this is by far and away the worst living situation I've ever been a part of. I live in a 3-bedroom apartment with 4 other people, so 5 of us total. I have had no problems with any of my roommates at all, just management. The internet service here, provided by Time Warner, has been the worst I've had since AOL in the late 90's. The speed significantly interferes with my ability to complete schoolwork, and whether I'm connected at all or not is a crapshoot. If you ask anyone else living in housing they'll tell you something similar. Dozens of phone calls to Time Warner (no exaggeration) were ineffective, as the internet covered under rent is apparently the minimum Time Warner provides. Housing management has been a comical display of utter incompetence. The exterior fence was sandblasted and repainted during the first two weeks of Fall semester, 2013, instead of during the Summer when occupancy was minimal, and unsafe balconies were fixed during the first two weeks of Spring semester, 2014, instead of during winter break. My roommates and I were awakened at 7 AM for 7 straight days by workers using power saws and hammers to fix our balcony, with no notice from housing management other than a terse and hollow apology for the inconvenience after the fact. Lastly, housing administration seems far more concerned with appearances than with quality of life. 4 or 5 days a week, landscaping maintenance starts anywhere from 8-8:30 AM. If you don't mind being awakened at those times 4-5 times/week or if you're a very heavy sleeper, it might not bother you. For me, it has become almost unbearable to live here under these conditions, and it is for the reasons I listed above that I am moving out shortly and will never again consider living on campus under any circumstances. The cost to live on campus, as of May 2014, is $2,850 per semester, which comes to about $710 per month to share a bedroom, have little-to-no internet access, and be awakened by yard equipment most days. CSUDH housing is the most poorly-managed organization of any kind I have ever encountered, and it is difficult to imagine finding less competent or helpful management. read more

I love Cal State Dominguez Hills. I fell in love with the campus the first time i saw it. My friend told me that Dominguez is the most ghetto CSU but there all rumors. Northridge, Los Angeles, and Long Beach does not compare itself to the beautiful South Bay location. Especially driving back to East Los Angeles and seeing downtown LA from Dominguez. I am pursuing my teaching credential to teach science as a second career. I would not recommend the teacher education program at CSUDH. Some of the teachers are excellent and others are terrible. My methods course to teach science was taught by someone who never taught science herself. The irony of teachers who cannot teach, teaching others to teach did not escape me. I found most of the classes beyond Phase I to be useless. Administration seemed to be very disorganized - curriculum seems to be constantly "in transition". Once I showed up to class at the beginning of the semester to be told the curriculum had changed and to sign up for a different class.
