I'm writing this as someone who toured the school, not as a former student. Scheduling a tour was easy, and everyone I met was friendly. The woman who gave me the tour was warm, knowledgeable, and genuinely kind. What caught me off guard was how quickly a simple tour turned into setting up a FAFSA account and discussing a $17,000 student loan. I remember thinking, Wait...I just came to look around. For me, $17,000 is a lot of money for a massage program--especially when that's on the higher end of tuition. By the time interest is added, you could easily end up paying well over $20,000. That's not a decision anyone should make in one afternoon. I also expected a little more for that price. The facilities weren't bad, but they weren't exactly new or high-end either. If you're charging premium tuition, I'd expect a campus that reflects it--or at least a location that feels a little more upscale. With the economy the way it is, I also wonder about taking on that much debt for a career in an industry that's often considered a luxury expense. My advice: take the tour, ask questions, then go home and think about it. Don't let anyone rush you into borrowing $17,000. read more

Updated Review After reading California Healing Arts College's response to my original review, I want to share my experience for prospective students. Their response reflects the school's perspective. This review reflects mine. I attended during the height of COVID-19. While I understand the challenges schools faced, the pandemic should not excuse an inadequate education, especially considering the cost. The eight-month Veterinary Assistant program cost approximately $17,506. Although the school provided about $2,000 in COVID stipends, I still paid approximately $6,130 out of pocket, in addition to federal student loans. I do not believe the education I received reflected that investment. The school states they provided physical textbooks after I had issues with my e-books. What they leave out is that every student first received a laptop and flash drive with e-books. The laptops constantly required updates during class, and my e-books often would not open. I eventually used my own computer because the school-issued laptop was unreliable. I requested physical textbooks simply so I could access my coursework. The school also references COVID regarding lab instruction. During admissions, I was told labs would continue with social distancing, and they did initially. The issue wasn't COVID it was the quality of instruction. One lab instructor was excellent, but after she left, the replacement was frequently late or absent, and lab instruction eventually became inconsistent before essentially stopping. I documented my lab attendance with photos and videos. I entered my externship feeling unprepared. My first externship offered little hands-on learning, so I requested a transfer. The clinic where I transferred is where I still work today. The staff there taught me many of the practical skills I should have learned in school. I was hired because of my own work ethic and willingness to learn, not because I felt adequately prepared by California Healing Arts College. Veterinary medicine is a hands-on profession. Students should graduate knowing how to safely restrain animals, recognize behavior, and perform basic clinical skills. That was not my experience. My current supervisor has also worked with multiple graduates from this program who arrived similarly underprepared. I already had a Bachelor's degree in Zoology before attending this program, so I entered with a strong foundation in anatomy and animal science. Much of my success came from that education. Had I entered directly from high school with no animal experience, I believe I would have struggled significantly more. At the end of the program, I completed a student evaluation outlining many of these same concerns. No one contacted me or addressed them. It wasn't until I repeatedly advocated for myself and filed a complaint with the Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education that anything moved forward. The school's response focuses on defending its reputation rather than acknowledging that students may have had legitimate concerns. I'm also not the only person describing similar experiences. I encourage prospective students to read the recent reviews and look for recurring patterns. Before spending over $17,500 on an eight-month Veterinary Assistant certificate, compare it with accredited RVT programs and other educational options. You may receive a broader education, become licensed, and have greater long-term career opportunities. Please research carefully before making such a significant financial investment. read more

There is no return of investment in this for-profit institution. I graduated three years ago from the massage therapy program. 65% was online during the pandemic and the hands-on training was a rushed crash course. I have no job in this industry. I scrub toilets for a living and I live paycheck to paycheck. I have nothing to show for except debt, discrimination and unemployability. I have collected 122 rejections from the MT field in three years. This makes 48% of the total rejections of jobs that I have applied to. Without an apprenticeship you cannot get hired; employers want experience. I demanded a refund of my wasted savings which they reluctantly granted. Without a Department of Education, I am still in debt. It infuriates me that I fell for the for-profit scam twice in my lifetime! Go to a real college and get a real degree. read more

Had a wonderful experience with the MT program. I loved the lessons, the meaningful connection with classmates, and the passion and kindness of professors Jack and Will. That being said, I had issues communicating with the staff unless I communicated with them in person, was promised adjustments that couldn't be delivered, and had lots of trouble with the staff regarding keeping track of my hours. Overall it is a good school if you're used to putting in work. Also be aware that you do not get your certification for 1 to 3 months after finishing the program, so job searching is hard until then. read more

I'm on my last days of externship for the VA program and I can not be more grateful for the staff that helped me push through the courses. Truthfully some of my best memories were at this school. Ms.Ghianni and Ms.Kessler work hard to provide the best education and resources for us. Not only were they very caring but also very supportive and understanding. I've met some of my bestest friends through this program. I've found my true passion in life because I joined this school. Every class was a class worth going, lessons were made to help us learn and have fun all in one. I loved being able to do the hands-on training for the Massage Therapy & Physical Therapy Aide Program. It really helped make everything click much faster. I also loved being able to interact and do labs with the other classes, it helped to give a feel of doing a more practical massage from someone who may or may not have had any knowledge of massage prior to receiving. Shitty education, Please take it from me, its not worth student loans debt. I regret having done it, now I'm +8,000 in debt and doing something opposite of what I "study for" because Ms. Lourdes tells you "you can always just call me and I will help you find a job". The staff here are so amazing and so helpful(Ms.Bates,Ms.Kathy, and Ms.Lourdes) and the rest of the staff .It is a nine month program but the last three to two months are externships and you get hands on everything that you learned in school.You also get hands on while attending the labs. Looking to go into the VA program ? Do you feel that you are comfortable working hip to hip with other students ? Are your communication skills strong? Are you a fast visual learner ? Are you someone that can spend 3 hours behind a computer monitor listening to an online instructor go through lots of important information in a pretty fast pace ? Can you work in a fast paced and stressful environment? Are you okay with working with aggressive Cats/ Dogs or exotics possibly getting scratched or bite ? Are you okay with making an average ( $16-17 hour ) ? Are you okay with only working on stuffed animals and old and used equipment that may be older than what you will use in your average clinic today? Are you okay with working in a classroom with over 25 students ? If you answered yes to most of these questions Well you just might be ready to begin your journey as a veterinary assistant student! I have just completed my program and currently working for Lomita Animal pet Hospital , this program is not a stroll in the park it can become very difficult, hands on experience on live pets is pretty low due to only being able to work on students pets, if your scared of being bite or scratched just know I got bite by a dog on my 2nd week of externship lol not as bad as it looks aha teachers are very knowledgeable and willing to help you as long as you participate and show initiative towards learning and helping others. As long as you can be mature and be consistent with labs and online lectures you can pull through with this program, don't cheat yourself because once your in the field the technicians and doctors notice how much you know and will base your knowledge on possible hire, wish you the best hope to see you out in the field some day. My name is Sofía, and I am a recent VA program graduate. It is my intention to share my own experience with you today, and respectfully encourage you to enroll if you are in search of a trustworthy training program. The VA program is 9 months long, consisting of 7 class modules and 2 final externship modules. All of the provided material is current veterinary knowledge and promotes the acquiring of applicable information. Each lesson is tailored to the expectations of a VA in a realistic veterinary setting. Textbook knowledge is discussed through engaging lectures and assignments, while also being utilized in correlation to our hands-on lab classes. All of the courses were taught with the intention of building me a solid foundation in assisting, following protocols, ensuring quality patient care, understanding the procedures and why they are performed, and ultimately how to care for animals in need. The beginning of my relationship with CHAC started with an introductory tour of the campus as I was searching for a fulfilling VA training program. It did not take much convincing for me to see that the campus would be a good fit for me, and I quickly enrolled in June 2022. My intuition was confirmed throughout the consistency of quality in my lecture and lab education, the genuine compassion and consideration of the faculty for their students, and the commitment to get me through the program and begin a brighter start in my veterinary career. With all of that in mind, I graduated in February 2023, and was awarded my diploma the following May. I am greatly appreciative to all of the staff that prioritized humanity and kindness over all. It is with the help of my instructors that I can now understand my surroundings in a veterinary setting and am capable of providing safe and compassionate medical support to animals. And with the help of all of the admin staff that conducted checkups after missed lectures, assistance in obtaining financial aid, active involvement in job searching and preparation, and kind, human conversations were more than enough for me to see that all of CHAC was considering my future. I am grateful to say that I was cared for on a personal and professional level. I could see that everyone wanted me to succeed through their acts of encouragement, positive affirmations, and loving support for my well being. It is with great sincerity that I credit CHAC's VA program to my newfound success in my first serious position as a VA. The knowledge of my instructors has prepared me to thrive in the veterinary community and continue to grow. I am now a trusted technician, and my performance feedback is positively consistent in understanding the textbook and hands on applications of my position. In addition to preparing me, I am appreciative of the fact that all of my teachers believed in me from the very beginning of my education. They saw me through to the end, and they are still trustworthy teachers after my completion of the program. Overall, CHAC gave me the opportunity to stand out as a job candidate. I'm currently enrolled to this school through the medical assisting program, it's been great so far and the equipment that were using is somewhat up to date but still good to use, I don't have really anything bad to say about this school other than I didn't realize it's close to home and it's an easy commute. *For the VA program* The class size was good. Not too many students, but just enough for group work and exercises. I think a big problem though would be having a small computer lab shared between the multiple programs. It was too small of a room and you could never tell what program was using the room until you actually stepped inside. As for the staff, they were helpful in guiding me through externship. I would've definitely missed a due date or forget to fill out a form without their help. read more

Update from my last review I posted .. This school invited me to eat "deserts and coffee"..and a job opportunity supposedly , and they said to come pick up my diploma . I have my diploma . 2 years ago I called after graduating and they let me know it was ready as soon as I graduated . Nobody informed me of that , during the time of graduation. I said let me check it out ... it was a set up they lured me in to ask me to remove my review . I gave them my honest opinion on why I still disliked the school and how I think it did not help me in my career. I informed Lourdes that I had my diploma before I left because she kept insisting they had it .. the fact that they don't even know I have my diploma is a red flag . It was crazy ! I went through so much anxiety having to go walk past so many people ..and it was such a waste of time and to be lied to just to get me to show up .This school did not help me move up in my career when it was time to look for a job they did not help me I have many emails and phone calls when I kept reaching out to the school to help assist me with a job and I got no response . It took me a long while after graduating to get a job . & when I finally did get a chance to work in the back like I went to this school for I forgot all the knowledge I learned because it took so long to get a job even after getting this dumb diploma. Being in this field I learned you can apply as a kennel attendant and move your way up to a technician ! And the go to RVT school and get a license and being able to get paid more. The hospital you work at if you move your way up the Weill pay for you to take there licensing program as well . Instead of paying 30,000 for RVT school .The veterinary assistant program does not get you anywhere really it's a waste of money . I attended the Veterinary assistant program and I felt like I was always looked out for by the teachers and the school administrators. The class size is good but I would have liked to work on more live pets while I was there since you mainly get to practice on your classmates pets. When I was in externship I feel I was well prepared and since I was paired with such a great vet I was also able to learn more while there. Even after graduating the school still keeps in touch with you to see where you are with your new career. read more

I was one of the first graduating classes and come to find out, my diploma isn't worth crap because they weren't even accredited during the time I went to school for the past 18 months there. Myself, as well as my other classmates, will be filing a class action lawsuit against them. Don't waste your time there. Update: To the owner of CHAC who replied to my review and conveniently removed their name now, you may have been accredited for the other programs you provided there, but not the Surgical Tech program that started when it was brand new when my class and I was there. I attended CHAC last year in January, went really good, the teachers really helped me out if I had any kind of question. When I went in for lab day, it was very hands on and I learned a lot. I graduated in November and got a job within a couple of months, when I first started my job I didn't seem confused with what was going on so that was a good thing. I love school it is awesome. We learn up to date things that we will use in our careers. The teachers are great, very knowledgeable about their field. But these cigarettes gotta go. Any designated smoking area must be outside and 20 feet away from entrances and ventilation intakes. Any yet these employees or whatever they are smoke right outside the door. I am very happy and satisfied with choosing this school. CHAC is one of those schools that gets you in and out in no time....I took medical coding and billing with Ms cristorean...one of the best teachers out there...very helpful and kind. I am very thankful for the knowledge she taught us... Lourdes is always very nice ....she makes sure your externship goes as smooth as possible...very helpful.. Honestly this school is so unprofessional they fire professors every month for lab and lecture it's a constant change every month. It's so unstable you don't know who to pay attention to it gets very overwhelming with the staff not getting it together. The principal Abby she doesn't do much just sits in her office she doesn't know who she hires she hires anyone to teach that's why the students don't get taught. It's 32,000 for 17 months but you never know when the professors will show up or not, they're either on their phone when they're suppose to be teaching, starring into space and not really caring. This school has changed my life, i started in 017 and finished this year for surgical tech the teachers and staff were a bit help and taught me from the basic anatomy to hands on training on sterling. This program was the best and i did learn alot from this school made new friends and was ready to face the Clinical for the extern site. The front office staff are awesome too and made me feel welcomed. This school wont make u regret the new path u choose on whatever ur program is.
