This school is NOT for everyone, but it was for me. I transferred to CSUDH and graduated within a year. Ms. Fike (academic advisor) molded my schedule into exactly what I needed to finish within a year, which is the reason I decided to come to CSUDH, I wanted to get in and get out even if that meant having no life and taking 7 classes per semester, etc. This wouldn't have been available at Fullerton, SDSU, or Long Beach (the other CSUs I was accepted to). So many programs, summer, spring, winter sessions, in person, hybrid, and online classes available (Saturday/Sunday too) that it makes it impossible not to graduate on time; although many people will not hustle and do what is necessary to graduate so they stay much longer. Oh, and to the people who think that CSUDH isn't a good school or to the people who think you can't transfer out of here, spare me. After attending CSUDH I was accepted into EVERY school I applied to for my Masters, including USC & Pepperdine. It's possible. It all depends who you are and what grades you receive. If you are in college and need someone to hound, micromanage, or babysit you for you to go to office hours, read the assigned materials, and show up to class then you shouldn't apply to college in the first place. If you work full time and are a commuter student I highly recommend CSUDH. I was very antisocial (in and out mentality) and still managed to meet great people (met my bf here). Look. If you are looking for the "party", to join a sorority, or to have the MTV version of a college experience-do not come here. This place is not for you because there is not much involvement, sports teams(that are good), Toro pride, etc. Personally I didn't care because I went to other university's football & basketball games, etc. because that's where my friends were at. But who graduated first and on time? ME..... And who is STILL behind and late to graduate? THEM. CSUDH made sense for my situation (full time job/commuter/awkward work hours). MINUS ONE STAR for the raccoon invasion & the classrooms that STINK- a lot of them smell, in my opinion, and are just poorly maintained. But, back to the raccoons- I dreaded night classes because countless raccoons awaited me right at the door, in the sidewalks and on the grass on the way to my car(sometimes UNDER my car). They attack and stand their ground so watch out. Hey, I got my Bachelor's and I received an incredibly professional, high paying job, at a nation-wide company. Granted, my experience and my personality had something to do with it but that piece of paper from CSUDH helped. Walked out of college loan free, debt-free, and with a bachelor's degree. read more

I just finished up my first semester this past Fall of 2010 and I must say that I'm very impressed. First of all, this is an incredibly clean campus and the parking is great. Anyone who's been to the library knows what I'm talking about. The main hub is the Loker Student Union which is a little over a year old. The walkways surrounding "the Union" are very clean and the rails are spotless because posters are required to use twisty-ties as opposed to sticky and residue leaving tape. Inside the union there are three floors. The basement floor contains the office of student life, multicultural center, organizational resources room and the 'Toro Center' which features air hockey, pool and video games at a very low price. The second floor is where the restaurants are and is pretty much the closest thing our campus has to a cafeteria. There are many different types of restaurants here to include (without blatant advertising brands) a subway sandwich place (lol), pizza place, Chinese take-out, Taco/Root Beer and a smoothie place. The third floor features the ball rooms where guest speakers sometimes show up and special events take place. They also contain the meeting rooms for clubs and organizations. The third floor has a gorgeous view of the campus and the beautiful housing on the Dominguez Hills. The other crown jewel of this campus besides the L.S.U. is the brand new library. If you want a breathtaking view then I suggest going to the top floor where you can see the Los Angeles Harbor and downtown San Pedro! Wow! Also, this library is incredibly clean and quiet and I've never been to a better place to study. Seriously, if you're a studious individual the library will be your new home. I'm a Communications: Public Relations major and a Theatre Arts: Performance minor so I will mainly comment on those programs. The theatre program here is very small but it's terrific. Because C.S.U.D.H. has such a small student population (13,000 at my last count) every student gets a good amount of attention due to excellent student:professor ratios. There's no flying under the radar here and people will know you by the end of the semester which is great. The technical department puts in a lot of hard work and it shows in some of the productions we have. From a talent standpoint I'm impressed with my classmates and peers. Everyone is very motivated at the university level and it shows in their fantastic performances. I was very surprised to find out that the Advertising and Public Relations programs here are combined! That's like two majors for the price of one! I've taken an advertising class and a public relations class in addition to a theatre class and I must say that I'm excited at my future job prospects. My professors seemed very motivated and excited to teach their classes and that passes onto me as a student in a very strong way. Now, I must mention why I removed one star and make a few negative comments. Not that it's ever happened to me, and I hope it doesn't, but I've been hearing about students being dropped from their classes if they don't pay their tuition long before the semester starts. A few days before this past Fall semester I was standing in line to pay for my parking pass. I heard two students talking and one mentioned that they wouldn't be attending that semester because they were dropped from their classes. This past registration period we were required to pay for our tuition in full by the 30th of November despite the Spring semester not starting until the 22nd of January. I've been checking my C.S.U.D.H. portal at least once a day in a paranoid manner to make sure that there aren't any last second charges that are allowed to happen without notification. Seriously, the website mentions that tuition rates can go up "at any time" without notifying the student and as such they can drop a student if they don't pay the fee as soon as possible and without notification. W.T.H, over? This glaring issue has forced my hand to give this excellent school a minus one star demerit. Otherwise, I look forward to continue matriculating here until the glorious day of my graduation. P.S. Other things to mention that I won't allow to affect my scoring system is that according to the school's pamphlet they sent me the average student on campus is 29-years-old. That pamphlet must be outdated because it seems like the average student age is more like 25. Maybe it's all of the night class students that are older but in the day time it's your typical 18-22 year-old students that are straight out of high school. A huge point for party animals is that our campus is officially an alcohol and drug-free campus. The only place we're technically allowed to drink at is at the campus bar. I've read that kegs are not allowed in student housing. I guess if you want to go to a party school then avoid Dominguez. This is the ultimate commuter school and it's very laid back. read more

Attended here for a couple of months back in 2015. Didn't like it. Financial aid office was really slow... this college feels really lonely sometimes. Not to mention the student housing. It wasn't really clear how you can move in to the dorms. You also should know how to drive here because the public transportation to get here sucks. read more

I transferred here in August 2011 and am graduating in May 2013. The ONLY reason that I am happy to tell people that I went to this school is because the student body is so diverse and I am working towards my Masters in Social Work, so the diversity aspect will look good on a resume. Other than that this school's name gets me a lot of surprised faces when I tell people that I go here. The school has a bad reputation for having very lazy teachers and academic curriculums that do not really educate students. I feel that many of the educators are in fact lazy, but this may be due to the fact that there are so many part-time/temporary faculty members. In my department, Sociology, there are really great full time permanent faculty members and there are some really terrible ones. During my time at this school I feel that it would have been helpful to have harder classes. 3/4 of my classes this semester were practically a joke and led to many of the students in my classes to be bored out of their minds when classes weren't cancelled for the day, (at the last minute). During some of my classes the professors were also very relaxed and allowed for some mothers to bring their children to class. I do understand that the students at this school are typically low income students and may not be able to afford childcare, but I also believe it is really not cool to have a 7 year old child in a sociology class where we are discussing Marijuana, hookers, pimps, and female genital mutilation. I am overall not satisfied with my education at CSUDH and am regretting not attending a more reputable Cal State, like CSULB or CSUF. I also recently applied to the school for their MSW program. I was informed by both the website and the MSW department itself that I had until April 30 to turn in my application. I went ahead and spent the money to apply to the school and was thoroughly working on my personal statement and planned to turn my application in before April 30, while I was on campus for classes. On April 26 I just happened to be looking at the MSW page and saw that it said that the program was closed. I then called the admissions department and they said that my application was in good standing, but I had to contact the MSW department to ensure that I was okay with them. I called the department until after 10am and FINALLY someone picked up. When I informed them that I had spent money applying to the program the lady informed me that I could not turn in my application because they had closed their entrances on April 25!!! I then asked if there was anything they could do because I was a current student and it was only 1 day later, not to mention I had already paid to apply to the school AND the website stated the application was due April 30. I was informed then that there was nothing they could do! How ridiculous is that?! I am very disappointed in CSUDH and hope that they do not report the wrong date on their departments' pages in the future. Shame on you MSW Department! read more

This was my first experience on this campus, and I don't know anyone that got a degree from here. I'm only here for a couple of classes to advance in my job. I already have my degree and more. Thank God because this evening was awful. My mom always said, "If you can't say something nice then don't say anything at all. " So I won't. End of story. Choose CSULB or ANYHWHERE else! I've been put on hold for hours via their telephone only to be told that they never received my drop form. I tried MANY times to get my refund after dropping a class. It's been a real struggle. I've emailed my drop form MANY times from various email addresses (including the TORO email) but they kept saying they didn't receive it. I receive their emails just fine. It's very challenging to get a hold of anyone at this school. They make it super easy to enroll and charge my credit card but getting the refund is SUPER challenging. They DO NOT make it easy to get your money back. I do not recommend their RN-BSN program. They take forever to get back to you. That alone, gives me major anxiety. Go elsewhere, it's not worth the anxiety and disorganization. read more

Housing- Beware! I've stayed in a few dorms over my college years and would say these are definitely not the best. One major thing is the dorms don't have air conditioning! That might have been fine a while ago when it didn't really get hot in Carson. But it was definitely needed today at 88 degrees. The room layouts can accommodate five people on one apartment layout and two people on the other apartment layout. If you're financial aid didn't come through and your not able to afford it, you're most likely going to have a roommate. The space is limited when it comes to closet space and dressers. Bring your own dishes and a microwave that is not included. Actually, you should probably bring a lot of cleaning supplies because no one will be cleaning up after you. There is a laundry facility on sight, I'm not sure how much they cost. It's located very close to the campus so would recommend to those who may have a long commute or just want to get out of their family home. read more

i commute to csudh from the san fernando valley since 2008. one big positive for this university is it's variety of programs. if you don't mind the commute as i do, this is a small, big school that has a lot of potential, although it looks and feels more like a community college than a university don't it? the faculty i've experienced are better than those of the UC i went to for undergrad. please do not cut any more programs. it's hard enough to find classes as it is. marc out. read more

hey it's not that bad! the classes are pretty easy yet you get a lot out of them. The Liberal Studies Integrated Option Program is great because you can earn you BA and Teaching Credential at the same time! I will tell you it can sometimes be scary at night so make sure you walk with a friend/have you keys ready (for me, it's my tazer). I graduated CSU Dominguez Hills with my Bachelor's degree in Business with a concentration in Accounting. The school is good and I got a great a education here. Most of my professors had P.H.D's and a few just had a Master's. I've had some hard, medium, and easy instructors at this school. I'm tired of the ignorant review of this school. Is the school is an area as nice as BEVERLY HILLS, NO. Also the school is in an industrial/residential part of CARSON not Compton. Is the school near Compton? Yes, but the school is also near Torrance and Long Beach. I like the school size as it's small and easy to find your way around. The campus is very diverse with 45% being hispanic, 23% black and the rest either 19% white and 13% Asian. The school offers a bunch of great programs in nursing, business, criminal justice, theater, Art, and even has a teacher's credentials program for those who want to teach K-12. Again the school is located in CARSON,CA; it even says it right above the box you are writing your review in. read more

I don't even go there yet and I'm already dealing with WISHY WASHY STUPID staffmembers seriously. I went there for a tour and didn't even get to take the tour. I decided to speak to the Admissions people, who basically questioned me for applying a year before. Well most schools you can apply a year before with no problems. Well they informed me that they don't take students mid semester only in the fall and if I want to go to school Sprng 2015 that would not be possible I would have to go Fall 2014 or not go until Fall 2015. I was like that's too long to wait in my opinion. Then they said they would refund my money or send my money back. Then I asked about it after 3 weeks passed. Then someone else said, "They don't give money back and they will probably have openings in Spring 2014." I said that i don't want to go Spring 2014 I wanted to go Spring 2015. They said, "Oh we're not taking applications for Spring 2015 right now. Who told you to apply so early?" I swear it was like talking to cartoon characters on a Three Stooges or Laurel and Hardy. Then they said they would give us FREE parking on the tour day. I called and called and nobody answered phone. So we paid the lowsy $4 to park but then when we got there they asked if we got a free pass to park. I was like they know doggone well we didn't get the free parking. How could we even get in the building without paying for parking. Not to mention I was looking for the LoT they were telling us to park in with the booth there and the person we were supposed to tell that we were there to take a scheduled tour. There was no booth, there was no attendant, who gave us a free pass to park. So wishy washy. I get the feeling that this is how they run things at this school. Also the Admissions department looked like something from a third world country. Seriously I don't want to spend great money at a lowsy, trashy school. I rather go out of state. Also this school wants 60 credits to attend and this class, that class. Other states don't require so much. I'm moving seriously I don't need to live in L.A. I don't need Cal State Dominguez Hills at all. The Admissions advisiors were silly enough. I asked the dude for a business card and he just gave me a general card. Not one with his name, phone number, email address. Nobody wants to be responsible. He coudlnt' tell me his name. I was like whatever, what's the big deal? They have my social security number, address, checking account info, and school transcripts but I ask them what their name is and they act like it's some big secret. PLEASE. This trashy school looks like a bunch of lame brains go there. A lot of minorities. I didn't see any whites the whole campus that day. I don't care I just like to see varieties of cultures. I had no idea that Yelp looked for reviews on schools? Anyway, I attended CSUDH from 2009-2011 as part of their online MBA program. I never had to step foot on their campus and worked from home in northern California. Some people have a negative attitude towards online programs, but I greatly appreciated my time in the program and learned more than I was expecting. The online element was a challenge in itself because you HAD to coordinate with your peers, and take into account different time zones, while working electronically. Working in an electronic environment making a collaborative effort is the way of the future in both business and education. Being confident in your ability to pull people together and work on a shared product for delivery to the professors was as much a part of the learning experience as the actual class content was. Most of my classes were very good in regard to content. As with any class, you had to learn as quickly as possible what the individual professors were wanting in regard to complexity and quantity for your deliverables. The online format helped push the classes somewhat away from behind the times printed textbooks and instead towards online delivery of case studies for review. I have not kept in touch with my peers as much as I would like to, but I still highly value my experience in the program. Again, the online collaboration and coordination aspect is not be be understated. As an example, in one course I remember having half my team on the west coast of the US, one member on the east coast, one member traveling between India and Malaysia, and our last member on active duty deployment in Afghanistan. That was a definite coordination challenge to review course material and write papers together, but THAT is the reality of the business world today. Global perspective! read more

I've been to CSULB and LBCC, and I'd pick CSUDH over those schools anytime! DH is a lot smaller than most campus, but that's what makes it so great! Small campus = smaller class = teachers actually get to know you as an individual. Teachers try and personally get to know you, and actually push you to do your best. To better illustrate how upset I am, and so you can visualize what I must have gone through, my review is an e-mail to CSUDH after they revoked my classes--a week before school started. They sent me a letter saying that my classes were taken. The letter was dated August 13; I didn't receive it until the 18th. School started (or was suppsed to start) on the 26th. However, before this letter, there was no e-mail, no call, no letter in the mail--nothing informing me that my admission was about to be revoked. Thanks, CSUDH. "I received your letter. I understood the deadline for my documents was July 15 and that's why I did everything before that. When I spoke to the front desk at admissions and records about the holds on my account due to my transcripts and ap scores, they said that CSUDH received them, that it takes 6 to 8 weeks to process, but it won't be a problem to enroll. I took their word for it, thinking my spot this fall was secure (since my.csudh said I was enrolled). Since then, I had not received any email or mail concerning my ap scores or any problems or issues. I log in to my.csudh, and my classes are gone--a week before class. And all of your people are just telling me to redo everything I've been doing over the summer so I can "possibly" attend in the fall. I'm livid. I already bought a parking pass for the Fall, which if I am unable to attend or get classes, I'd like a full refund. Admissions and Records front desk told me today that I had to wait for you to receive my AP scores and then rewrite a letter of appeal... Jesus Christ. She told me before that I just had to do that as soon as possible, now I have to wait until you receive them? This is the worst experience I've ever had with a college. I'm a Comm major, but damn, maybe I should switch or go somewhere else because you people are terrible with communications. Thanks for everything" Maybe this is the anger talking, but if you want a good college experience, don't attend this place. All i want is to get my degree out of the way, that's why I chose this place. It's the cheapest and most convenient for me. In a world where the cost of living and education keeps exponentially rising, while income and minimum wage trudges along stagnantly behind, you can't blame the youth for just wanting to get out of school and get their lives together by working and making money. I love the fact I always get the classes I want compare to stories from students at other schools that i have to be ready at the time of their appointment. There is always parking. The billing staff is incompetent even when I tried repeatedly to point out their mistake in not charging me enough for my classes. I qualified for a "first time student discount" and insisted that she recheck her numbers after being told the final cost was less than half what it should have been. She insisted repeatedly that the two classes, $700.00 each, came to $680.00. Well that's a hell of a discount! Imagine my LACK of surprise when I get a message to go see the billing office at my earliest convenience three days into a four day long class. The woman in the office, who I believe was the same woman I spoke to on the phone, informs me that I need to pay for the second class. I explained that I asked the woman on the phone to recheck her numbers several times and every time I was answered with "it's right, $680.00." If a cashier at the grocery store forgets to charge you for a gallon of milk guess what? Free milk. Same rule should apply. Because the cost is so much more for a class the "cashier" should be that much more diligent. So right there I had to pay another $680.00 because of her mistake! I wonder if they have a "last time student discount" or a "my two collage age daughters will never step foot on your campus discount?" Be sure to check out my review about the parking ticket I received with a valid parking permit face up on my dashboard while legally parked in a handicap spot. Why can I not write another review about the same location but a different department? I drive a black car, a new black car, and I don't want my dashboard damaged by the sun so I use a sunshade on hot sunny days. Now I understand that if I have my shade up that you can't see my parking permit through the windshield. BUT THAT WON'T STOP YOU FROM SEEING IT THROUGH THE SIDE WINDOW!!!! The "parking attendant" took pictures all around my car to show that it was, what, parked? And failed to take a picture of either side window where the permit was plainly visible. Not to mention that in the state of California people with disabled placards DO NOT PAY FOR PARKING. They explained that they are a university and that the rules don't apply to them. Yes they said that. I then pointed out that this is a CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY and that CALIFORNIA STATE LAWS do apply here. But hey, its five bucks, whatever. I bought one everyday I was there, placed it face up on my dash just like the message at the kiosk told me to and put up my shade and my disabled placard. I'm covered. I'm pretty pissed that instead of looking in my side window and seeing my permit and moving on, the "parking attendant" decided to walk all around my car taking pictures of the front and back and write a citation for not having a permit which you can see me purchase that morning on the kiosk camera with my car parked behind me. Its called "doing your due diligence." When I contested the citation, with a copy of my permit with the same date as the citation, the citation was upheld. Why in the hell would I buy a permit then fail to display it or display an old one instead??!!! They admitted that they saw the permit on my dash and claimed they couldn't read it. I provided them with a copy and later the original with the time and date on it and still upheld the citation. That is some serious ass covering and corruption all over $38.00. read more

I feel very fortunate to be a TORO.... I love the Communications department. Maggie, Dr. Eagle, Dr. Raz, Professor Russo, Lisa Callamaro and former professor Beadle are the BEST! We are so lucky to have such professional and passionate professors that care about students not only now but also about what we will do once e graduate. The programs such as "Hollywood by the Horns" provides great experience of what it really means to work in the industry. Having professionals in the industry such as Todd Williams, Dave Dasmaltchian, Ivana and many more that have visited gives us the upper hand when going out job searching. I love the PA Bootcamp that was paid by the school, i love the NBC Universal fellowship that was introduced to us by Dr. Eagle. In simple terms.... I LOVE CSUDH. I am a PROUD TORO! read more

I would not take another class w Ms Doreen Delgado nor would recommend her to my fellow students. I tried to reach out to her numerous times for support and assistance and she offered me nothing of substance in return. Teachers should be able to motivate and encourage students but Ms Delgado did neither for me. When I spoke to her, she was condescending and abrupt. During a skills lab I attended, she made inappropriate personal comments about me in front of other students. I don't understand how a university professor can be allowed to make students feel inferior and incompetent. I am a hardworking health professional ICU nurse and a dedicated student and I am offended by her lack of teaching skills and professional demeanor! My first review and I'll most likely update it next semester. Personally I really like how everything is close to each other. All of the classes are in close proximity and the parking lots are pretty spacious. I wish the school had parking structures but then that would just cause traffic jams I guess. In many of my classes the seats are too small and you don't get much room to even stretch. The professors are pretty aid back but too many of them never shut up. I feel like a robot in all of my classes because of the lack of interaction between my peers. It's "take notes and leave". I hope it gets better. read more

my second semester of my freshman year and I am already thinking of going to other schools. Housing is boring, definitely not a party school and if anyone is throwing anything it's just small and lame and will end quickly because of RAs and shit. The dorms are nice I guess compared to other schools it probably has more room than dorms at other schools but it can get ratchet around Housing and not too many attractive girls here either. None of the majors are impacted though which is a good thing and it's a cheap school compared to others and classes aren't too hard which is the only reason why I am thinking of staying here. Terrible. As a right wing student, neither the students nor the faculty treated me in a welcoming way. I was physically attacked by a student for simply wearing a shirt that supported my side of the political spectrum. When I reported it, they told me it was "justified" because apparently it's okay to attack someone for practicing their freedom of expression. The professors are trash too. Most of them have terrible diction and cancel class constantly (there goes my money down the drain). The students are still acting as if we're in high school. Overall, I'm so glad I'm transferring out of there next semester. read more

I attended University DH and was able to get all my classes accordingly. The financial aid office was very resourceful as they were able to get my aid in a timely matter. I cannot complain as my counselor made sure I got all my classes. I loved and enjoyed all the professors that I took and was able to plan my career goals as well. This is my first semester at CSUDH and so far I have no complaints. ..the campus is easy to get around, parking is never a problem, professors are eager to help if you need it & even with having night classes I feel very safe (thanks to campus police & night parking attendants). CSUDH was my number one choice since it's close to home, tuition is cheaper than other CSU and they offer weekend and night classes which is prefect for a working adult. School started 6 weeks ago. I ordered the required textbook that finally came yesterday. A used book, 7X9, 343 pages, paperback, costs me 81 bucks! I am sure that I would take good care of it. I would keep an eye on it whenever I am wide awake, practice a good hand-hygiene before I touch it, and put it under the pillow when I pass out. Dude i freaken love these trees!!! man every single time i walk by one i get mesmerized, i feel like i can get lost in natures trance. My mind wants to stay but my body keeps moving, it serves as a constant reminder that there is no time in this fast paste society to stop and smell the roses, then i am in class and no i am not high. read more

I like CSUDH, being a student there and all, but the parking has gotten so much worse since last semester. Glad I am done in May so I don't have to deal with that aspect anymore (or the constantly rising tuition), otherwise, it's been super great dealing with the administration and instructors/professors and students. Currently go here as a physics major, and dancer. Couldn't be happier. I've had opportunities to travel and get paid for it. Even got paid to spend a summer at Notre dame university! Love this school read more

Amazing diversified school. Teachers care about you and the relatively small classrooms help

My favorite place is there cafe/study at the library. Quiet and I am still able to enjoy my coffee breaks. Professors actually care about your success they r there to help you! I love my counselors and peer mentoring they r truly helpful and want to see you succeed. I have found the other colleges and their students are competitive and only care about themselves not at Dominguez it is truly a community where everyone is there to succeed instead on focusing on your failures. My Alma Mater! No matter what the lower graded reviews say it is a great University. Big campus, varety of classes, state-of-the-art library! -1 star for competitiveness on the academic side. Also they have a pretty good cafeteria. read more
