This place was really unique in terms of a theater. The seating and the sound system was really nice and the movie we were able to watch was interesting. I wish I didn't have work the next day in order to stay for the q&a but it was really cool to be able to see the main actress in person. I was late so I didn't get to see the premiere

Always enjoy the old school ambience of the California Theatre. I attended symphonies, opras, 49ers Foundation event, film viewings, fundraisers, and most recently a SJ Jazz festival event. Ushers are always friendly and clearly can see their joy. Whether in casual clothes or formal wear, the theatre is comfortable. At the most recent Jazz Festival, it was fun to experience the performance in the gathering space near the concessions. Made for an intimate and casual affair. The acoustics were fine for the classic jazz music performed by Summer Camargo. We enjoyed it so much that we bought her CD and I'll be following her on Spotify.

This is a beautiful theater, the interior and exterior have been completely renovated to its old glory. The seating is fantastic (probably not a bad seat in the house) we sat at the front of the upper deck. Unfortunately the sound quality is lacking, they turn the sound way up but I still had a hard time understanding what the actors were saying in the movie. (Turning up the sound to death con 10 doesn't make the sound quality any better, it just hurts your ears) I would recommend investing in a better sound system. Over all it was a nice experience "seeing the inside of the theater. Sound quality and level.... Not so much

Pretty cool theater on the edge of downtown San Jose. Beautiful and well kept. The perfect size for comedy, music, or dance shows. Decently spacious aisles and foot room. Comfortable seats. Easy to walk to from wherever you park downtown. I only wish the bar/ snack area was stocked with a few more items.

Gorgeous detail in the architecture. @thefoodhigh

I went here for a cinequest grand opening event for the first time and it was amazing! I loved the collaboration between Yelp and Cinequest at this iconic venue! This 1920s theater is well worth a visit. Take a look at their site for any upcoming events and shows. I was fortunate enough to experience a solo concert with the artist using an old organ before the premiere of the movie "The Luckiest Man in America". I'll be back!

This was my first time visiting the California Theatre and also my first time attending a symphony orchestra performance. Let me tell you there's nothing like hearing classical Christmas songs live with an orchestra and chorale. I love theatre and now symphony is right there with it. On this occasion I was invited by my daughter to come and see her best friend perform. Her BF is a classically trained singer and performed with the chorale as one of the sopranos. We had seats in the upper mezzanine and still had a great view. The theatre is elegant and the staff members were all so friendly. The orchestra, chorale and ballet performers were amazing. Shout to the conductor Elena Sharkova and amazing guest baritone Nathan Stark. His rendition of Mr. Grinch was fabulous! Pro tip: To mitigate theft from your vehicle, bring cash to pay for $30 parking near the theatre. This is downtown San Jose!

It's great to have a venue so close to home so I don't have to drive all the way to San Fran. Came here for a comedy show and it was a wonderful experience. Beautiful and stunning venue. Solid five for housing a comedy show that gave me the best medicine- laughter. Great sound system. Located on first street in downtown surrounded by a variety of restaurants ranging from upscale to food hall.  The theatre has massive arched entrance, exquisite prints on ceiling, and exotic looking hanging lamps. Red velvet chairs are luxurious and comfortable. Mesmerizing staging. Exuberant vibe with clean environment. Friendly and courteous customer service. Drinks are sold on site. Everything seemed organized and well maintained. Will love to come back for shows.

Explored California theater as part of the Cinequest events. Beautiful architecture from the 1920's.

Great place to see a play or a movie. I was there for opening night of Cinequest. It's a beautiful venue. My only complaint is that Street parking is hard to comeby. Not the theater's fault, but a bit od a nusance. I did think the live organ music was cool.

They don't build theaters like this anymore. Really beautiful old theater, if they had more than one screen that would be even better. Thank you yelp for having partnering with yelp with cinequest for the showing of the Island between Tides. The bathroom are clean. They have a downstairs entrance for the main room seats or balcony seats. I didn't see a snack bar. They host ballet, symphonies, and plays here. Even walking past the front gothic gates walking to Nirvana soul is so pretty.

This was my first time on California Theatre and I'm really happy I got to visit it! The inside of the theatre was so beautiful and clean. The movie premiere I got to watch was "Breakwater" and it was quite a good movie, followed by interviews with the people who worked on the movie. I loved everything about this experience even though had some issues with scanning the tickets to get in. The after-party was a lot of fun as well: starting with a great location, very nice staff, and ending with really good food and nice DJ. I'd love to come back again

Beautiful theater has a nostalgic feel to it, while still maintains modern amenities. Apparently they are famous for their warm chocolate chip cookies. Definitely got one and it was a great treat before the show.

Saw a fantastic flamenco performance here last night through the Royal Opera of Madrid. This is a beautiful theater with a grand design. It's intimate enough that I don't think there are any bad seats. The staff were all incredibly gracious and friendly. Please support them and check out their other events.

Just two and a half weeks before the event, I received a text message from the owner saying he had accidentally double booked my date and was asking if I could move the event to another day. I was completely shocked and devastated. I have family traveling from Mexico and Los Angeles, and I've already paid for the caterer, DJ, decorator, cake, and photographer. When you plan an event like this almost a year in advance, it's not something you can just change last minute. He offered to refund my money or try to find another venue, but how could I trust him again after such a huge mistake? I had no choice but to start over and look for another place, which means paying extra fees, delivery charges, and the inconvenience of relocating everything to Gilroy. Because of this, my daughter will no longer have her church ceremony, and that breaks my heart. This experience has been stressful, costly, and deeply disappointing. I do not recommend doing business with this person or this venue. They were unprofessional, careless, and completely unreliable with something so important. He doesn't even deserve the 1 star !!!

I'm a little late to the party on this but so glad I was able to experience it this past weekend for a 75th bday celebration. What looks like an unassuming store front among all the other businesses is actually set up to be a place you could commemorate your next big milestone. While the actual space was on the smaller intimate side, Max Capacity is 120 guests-- so you can still have a good amount of folks for a party. Did I mention it includes a red carpet? It was rolled out for all of us upon entering and added that extra bit of glamour to match the occasion. Once inside, I appreciated the white walls and black drapes. There were multiple TV screens thoughtfully placed on the walls to showcase the celebrant. Later on, these same TV screens were used to present a slideshow of the birthday gal. Uplighting was laid out on the ground to lend to the atmosphere. In the middle was a mini stage that could be used for anything from performances to a DJ. The backlit black drapery behind the stage also gave cabaret vibes. From the looks of it, you could opt to bring your own catered food and also use their in house catering. For this specific party, they had both. The star of the food was their baked chicken-- It was tasty and fork tender. If I had to be nitpicky, the bathroom air freshener scent was off-putting. I couldn't wait to get out of there and switched to mouth breathing immediately. Other than that, this is definitely a place to consider for your next event.

I was amazed by the speed and professionalism! If only I had this level of set up at every birthday party. Barely any dictation or answering questions was needed. What a hugeeee lift off the mental load! There's a dedicated drink fridge in front of the register that kept our drinks chilled and easy for guests to grab. The food table is nice and long so it held a lot of food & we had A LOTT of food. We opted for the photo package too which was nice because usually being the host means you're too busy to take photos and get photos taken of your family. Overall, I highly recommend this place for your little one's special event! I only wish that this place was bigger so that we could invite more friends to our event. However, being smaller means more intimate events and those who are invited should feel super blessed and lucky to have made the cut!

We dressed up formally and were expecting to have a very fun engaging time with an elaborate buffet spread. After all, it did cost $70 per ticket!!!! Anyhow we were so disappointed! Their buffet was of fast food fare. There were grilled cheese quesadillas, simple beef burgers and fries. Seriously!!! OMG!!! If I wanted fast food fare like this, I would go to el Pollo Loco or Carls Jr. for better fast food and still pay much less. All I did at the event mostly was sit around and play with my phone. I did talk with a few other people who attended this event who told me the previous work shop event held by Poshmark was not that great either and the food was mediocre. Sure, Poshmark could have done better. There could have been interactive activities like a scavenger hunt event to win prizes and other contests, there could have been guest speakers, and free goody bags for participants. Gee, I am not even an event coordinator and know how this event could have been better! But I found the buffet to be the most disappointing. Sure, Poshmark perhaps chose the menu but it also reflects on the restaurant/event venue. After all, this is supposedly an ultra high end restaurant/event venue with the ambience to match. But the food was not worth the $70 ticket. And, sitting around with not much more to do but over indulge on fast food, talk with others in a noisy venue, and sit around fiddling with my phone was not fun for me. It was the first time my sweetie and I ever went to this restaurant/event venue and it was a let down. We may have got an inaccurate first impression of this place. I would think the general menu for this place must be better then the food that was catered at this event. I would think other events held here would have better buffets with a carving station, a salad bar, a snack bar and more (but for much less than $70 to attend). But surely other events that charge attendance here would have been better than the one we attended here. We did not find coming to this restaurant/event venue memorable. We will not be coming back to this restaurant /event venue nor ever come to another $70 Poshmark event like the one held here. It was disappointing. I wish we could have got our money back.
