My husband spoke briefly to the crew to suggest that, before trimming the manzanita located on the property line, they verify whether it should be pruned, as manzanita can be a protected species in the Sandhills area. He shared this information only to be helpful and to ensure compliance with local environmental protections (see: https://www.santacruzsandhills.com/endemic_plants.html). As my husband was walking away, one of the workers referred to him as a "pendejo" to others on the crew. Both my husband and I are Spanish speakers, so we clearly understood the remark. This raises two concerns: Crews representing your company that are being hired by the county should verify which plants and trees they are cutting or pruning, particularly in environmentally sensitive areas such as the Sandhills. It is completely unacceptable for your employees to insult residents--especially while representing your company and while on the job. read more

Have you ever tried to explain incompetence only to be at a total loss for words? This is the point I've reached. PG & E sent out California Tree Solutions to trim trees growing too close to the power lines. We explained the trees are very old and we wanted a minimal trim necessary to be safe and meet their minimum requirements. As you can see from the images, California Tree Solutions butchered our tree. We are at the point of waiting to see if it survives. We were told an arborist would supervise the trimming. She did not. All the supervisor could say is "We heard you and we are both ridiculously annoyed with that crew. We now take a different crew for sensitive properties. All we can do is apologize on his behalf." Nice. Our tree is decimated, and they are sorry. To add insult to injury they left all the branches in a pile, some in front of our business and some by the dying tree. They said a chipper would be out. Our fault we didn't ask which year. They never showed up. Run them off your property unless you want to watch your trees, as we are watching our once beautiful oak, die a slow death. read more

Pricing came out better than all competitors. Tree Cherubs is under their parent company California Tree Solutions and those were the guys that came out to work. After agreeing and signing to tree trimming work, we scheduled for two weeks out. They came on time and worked the whole day trimming and cutting down the tree near the power lines. Coordination between crews and supervisors was very good during this two day process. They did a really thorough clean up of the considerable debris in the yard and driveway. Look no further for you tree removal needs. We were looking for someone to remove four palm trees in our yard. We contacted four companies. Two of them told us that they don't remove palm trees and referred us to California Tree Solutions. One of the guys explained to me that a lot of companies don't remove palm trees because the acid in the palm trees ruin the chainsaws. We decided to go with California Tree Solutions because they gave us a better quote and also because the two other companies clearly respected California Tree Solutions enough to refer them to customers. Paul and his crew did an amazing job of the large job needed in my backyard! I had two huge trees that needed removal for danger of falling over and other issues - a giant Yucca palm and a Mimosa, both heritage trees. Paul started out helping to advise me through the permit application process, which was very helpful! On the day of the job, 3 guys came over in the morning, and worked at it all the way until 6+pm, removing the giant trunk bit by bit by bit. By the end, both trees were successfully removed and stumps grinded, with no damage to the trees around them or our backyard/roof. I had a nasty old street tree (topped by previous owners) that needed to go. Paul at California Tree Solutions was great. He is seriously one of the most professional contractors I have ever dealt with. He was always on time, always called when he said he would, took care of all the permit stuff and left everything clean and swept up when he was done. He was also knowledgeable (without being condescending - kind of a thing I ran into with other arborists), and didn't try to up-sell me on a bunch of services I didn't really need. Overall: California Tree Solutions is the best way to go if you need tree removal, tree pruning, or root grinding in the bay area. They are licensed and have workers comp. Paul is very knowledgeable of his trees and how to take care of them. We needed to remove multiple trees (8+) and trim two huge oat trees all together. His price was very reasonable and considerably cheaper than other top rated tree service companies on yelp. In fact, Paul was referred by The "We Care Tree Care" company, which was also great (see my other review on yelp for We Care Tree Care). Tree Removal: Paul has a great team of 9 people. They are all nice and hardworking guys. It was 90F during the day that they worked. Even though it's baking out there, they all show dedications to get the work done within promised schedule. All trees removal and pruning were completed within 8 hours of time. Not an easy job. They had to haul out multiple tree trunks which easily weight over 100lbs ea. They have the right equipment and were well organized. They were multi-tasking and were able to complete all work on time. I stood out there trying to take some video of their work, and I was sweating after 10 minutes! Imagine what it was like to do heavy lifting work in long sleeves (for protection) for hours. Tree Pruning: The two oat trees were way overdue for pruning. Since they are listed as heritage trees in my city, Paul knew right away of what's the "legal" way to prune them. He also pointed out mistakes that were made by the previous tree service guy that has caused major damage to my trees. In fact, 80% of my trees are dying because of the previous pruning. Lessons Learned - never go for cheap tree services, but look for one that knows their stuff. Root Grinding: Root grinding was done on a separate day. Two of Paul's team member came out for a full day to grind 12 tree stumps. Again, it's a 90F+ day. They did an excellent job on grinding and cleaning up. All (12 stumps, we had some old dead ones) were done in a day and the place looks very clean afterwards. In Summary, I can't be any happier with the price, schedule, team, and quality of work of this company. I HIGHLY recommend this company to all you out there that are looking for tree services. If there is a 6th star, I would not hesitate to give it on yelp. read more

Fallen Tree in West San Jose!! Our tree literally fell over (thank goodness it was away from our home) over our driveway and our neighbors driveway. It also took down our electrical lines and caused safety issues with oncoming traffic. We called 911 and the next call was to Paul and his team. They were finishing a job in Gilroy and made it over to us in West San Jose in record time to help. Paul and his crew took out a huge Monterey pine that got sick and 11 very old Mexican Pines on my property. They also trimmed 2 Italian Stone Pines and 3 Cedars for us. Overall, great price for a great job done. There was an issue with the palm roots we discovered 6 months after the work was done. 5 stars until... This is the second time we have used Paul and his crew. On this occasion, we had a big tree fall within of inches of the garage. They were very good in taking down the tree without a scratch on the building. They were quick to complete the work and left the big "pile" wood chips from the job as we requested. Things went downhill from there. After the truck dumped the chips at the specified location on the property, someone on his crew took a dump on the wood chips (wild animals don't include napkins with their deposit). I had pauls crew out to remove an old pine tree and top off a bunch of trees in the back and front yard. I was very disappointed with how they treated our property. They were hand carrying the limbs from the back to the front yard and they were not concerned with what the branches were hitting. They knocked a number of planters over, on the ground and also off the window ledge. They were throwing the branches down on top of Ferns , rose bushes and trees. My big fern is gone I dont think it will survive. They also broke our motion detector and light. The cleanup was shoddy, I am still finding pieces of the trees all over the yard. I contacted Paul about this but have not heard anything back. We will not recommend this company. read more
