They had way better sculptures - large, landscape scale ones - in the entry area. More interactive. Minus the slanted house, everything acquired since Covid is pretty terrible, some even very cheap looking. Example, photographs... outdoors?! Attached to wood posts like cheap yard signs. Trellis with hanging fabric with cheap-looking patterns that looked like samples from Joanne's Fabrics... attached to structure that looked like playground set... not really developed. This idea of walking between hanging things has been done by countless others way better. A couple other sculptures were interesting themselves, but supports were so not thought through or developed. Looked like an afterthought, and attracted more attention or equal to the work. The "crystal" one was more interesting, but seems too precious to be outdoors. It's more of an indoor piece. Older works by Dan Graham, Jaume Plesna, Jim Dine, Joseph Wheelwright, Marianna Pineda are great. Smallest Kenneth Snelson I have ever seen... I counted 10 interesting works. 10. And indoor museum is closed for renovation. $14 entry, out of way location. Not coming back unless they dramatically improve curation. Look at New Orleans Museum of Art's sculpture garden for some inspiration. Storm King might be out of this league, but NOMA should be comparable.

All of the actors were awesome and stayed in character the entire time. After, we were led onto the ship where we had the opportunity to throw "tea" into the harbor. There was a lot of people to get through so this portion goes quick. Also, it's completely optional. Lastly, they take you into a few more rooms to look at artifacts and watch a short video. At the end of the tour, there is a tea room and gift shop. Overall, I think its a fun activity worth trying. You get to learn a lot about the Boston Tea Party and the Revolutionary War.

Improved a lot over the years, Boston Tea Party museum has improved!…read more For our tour/experience, we joined the town meeting hall room where we were guided through some background before the Boston Tea Party took place with actors bringing the history to life with their own experience Each of the attendees received a card to tell us who we were. Now, our actor, character's name, was Peter. They had a little of a quieter voice so I could hear them clearly but it was a little challenge. We went from the meeting room to the boat where we had a limit opportunity to throw tea off the ship. Children were the primary participants in our group of 40-50 people. Then we went into this theater area with moving portraits and wide-length screen to hear the story of the museum. The tour ends in Abigail Tea Room and I recommend checking out all of the tea because it is graded based on the popularity in the 1770s from most expensive to cheapest. When I have visitors, I will go back again and glad to see such a robust experience.

Of course the garden is such a highlight from all angles and levels. Kids were interested in everything! They had fun finding all the works of art on the Map and they also have a kids activity one as well. No surprise the Heist of 1990 is such a draw. Unfortunately the Dutch Room, location of the Heist, is currently under restoration. "Gardner staff are working to restore the Dutch Room so that future visitors can experience it as Isabella originally intended. This floor-to-ceiling restoration will be completed by early 2027. Electricians are upgrading the system for new and improved lighting. We'll be able to see more details, including the painted ceiling that we spent in months cleaning and stabilizing. It comes from a building in Orvieto, in central Italy. Many artists painted its 120 scenes in the 1520s." "While we will wrap up our restoration work in 2027, the room will remain incomplete until all the works of art are returned." - you are allowed to have a purse/bag. They check it when entering - you are allowed to wear a coat or use coat check - large umbrellas need to be left at entrance. Smaller ones can be on you in a a provided plastic bag but be careful not to let it swing around and hit objects - bring headphones and a charged phone to scan QR codes in each room to learn more about the art and highlights from different artists - cool old elevator access and really pretty bathrooms - some bench seating available in rooms and around courtyard (see map for available seating) - don't forget to visit the gift shop for unique gifts and they have ornaments too! But my now LA-based daughter was visiting, and wanted to see the Welcome blanket exhibit since her friend had one on display. (I'm not certain how a museum here is the recipient of 330 handmade quilts and blankets - 99 of which are on display - that will be distributed by Dorcas House to new immigrants, but it's pretty cool right? Maybe because southern New England was the center of US cloth manufacture through the early-mid 20th century?) Ad for the Museum itself: the cultural component of this mill community is front and center. The space is set up in a number of immersive dioramas - rooms and areas visitors walk through to get an experience of those who lived there. The first stop is a farm cabin in Quebec in snowy winter where (push the doorbell) a family decides to move south in the hope of a better life working in the mills. In the replica of a French Canadian Catholic Church we read about religious life in America, and sit in pews near the actual mosaic altar boys to learn a bit about the wave of immigration and the mill worker experience, there's a credit union (kind of explains the Bailey Savings & Loan in It's a Wonderful Life). There's a school room, complete with a teacher/priest and books in the desks in French and English. On the stairs to the second floor, pass posters and stories about others groups of immigrants to the area, along with the rooms upstairs: Woonsocket baseball players, tenement houses, mill and factory memorabilia, and a room set up with the equipment workers toiled at. Oh - dint miss the display of a union hall! My daughter buzzes through art museums. We were here for about 2 hours. And then we got to the room with the blankets. But when…read moreI walked into this shop in Faneuil Hall the blonde older woman behind the counter was so rude! Not sure if it's just blatant racism or if something is wrong with her, but it's my understanding that when you pick up an item to decide if you want to buy it or not a shop keeper is there to be kind and courteous. When I picked up a sweatshirt to look at it she looked at me like I was the worst thing she's ever seen. I immediately refolded the item and apologized, (for what? I really don't know? Being a potential customer I guess?) And she literally got up from her stool came around the counter and YANKED the sweater off where I had folded it and shook it out as if I had just damaged it... It was such an odd and disturbing display and I felt so unwelcome. It was gross and I would recommend Faneuil Hall reconsider her shop in the building. I did report her to management as well. As a Civil Rights Journalist myself, this type of behavior especially in historic sites is unacceptable.
