I went there for their Farm Fiber event. It was busy & I was appalled that they couldn't be bothered to manage their own parking lot for their event. Events get busy & your lot fills up. I get it. It's our first year planning our yard/garden space. We have visited many garden centers ideas and shop around, and Russell is our spot! Claudia at Russell is an exceptional wealth of knowledge about trees and shrubs, as well as native plants, and advised on what will work best in different light/environmental conditions. For instance, she advised that beach plums would work well close to the curb/street, since they grow on the coast and are used to salty conditions and can handle the winter street salting. After doing some homework and space planning, we came back to purchase, and Claudia helped us again - touring us through all the trees that would fit our (limited) space requirements and light conditions. We are new to New England growing and gardening in general, but Claudia patiently answered all of our questions, gave us time to explore more on our own, helped us pick out the best specimens from the plant types we chose, and advised on planting and eventual pruning. We took home 3 and will be back to see Claudia for bushes in late April and perennials in May. It's also a huge campus - so much see and shop as well. read more

There's no one better to help with houseplants than Christina. Her exceptional customer service is the reason I shop at Russell's. I came in looking for a few things, including dog-safe plants, and Christina took the time to walk me through the store, helping me choose plants that could share a pot and flourish in the specific room I had in mind. I also showed her a photo of a struggling plant, and she immediately diagnosed the issue and gave me a solution. Christina is patient, knowledgeable, and has a calming presence. She truly believes that plants should thrive--not just survive--and she went the extra mile to make sure I was happy with my choices. It's also a fun store to find things in, including plants I bought some things for the patio and some beautiful pots. They also will plant everything in the pots for you. I love this place! I went in the spring and it was loaded with so many flowers and veggies! I was still in garden prep mode so I was only able to pick up a few plants. But they are still growing! And I just got back from another visit (Sept now) and picked up a bunch of mums. This was the only place I was able to find orange ones, like all orange, not rusty or brown with orange. We were looking for a local nursery to support after a few of our Home Depot succulents died a slow and painful death (not to mention a surprise mealy bug infestation that caused the untimely demise of some precious thyme). I tried a few places that were selling plants in just horrible conditions, as my poor tri colored Hoya from a shop in Somerville can attest to. Then, I found Russell's. Just a fabulous variety of house plants with some nice and clear labeling on light requirements and really friendly staff. The quality of the houseplants were just so far superior than anything I've seen at a store before; and even after bringing the new plant babies home, they didn't suffer the usual "nursery to home" shock that badly!! Just a few browning tips. Not to mention their selection of planters of all sizes - I was in heaven! Russell's is going to be my new go-to place for my growing plant obsession. Russell's Garden Center is an excellent nursery with both indoor and outdoor plants (AND SO MUCH MORE!) I happened upon this business on a Saturday afternoon during the Massachusetts' Summer heat wave as a result of a competitor being closed due to the heat. Boy, am I glad I ended up here! They have so many options! I didn't even realize just how big the place actually is until I was driving to get to the exit to leave. After walking the grounds to see my options, I ended up buying a lily, some zinnias, and a dahlia, and all were reasonably-priced in my opinion, although I am used to California nursery pricing, so I don't know if that plays a role or not. I would have purchased so much more, but I'm only temporarily here for work, so I didn't want to get too crazy. If my job extends my East Coast contract, I'll definitely be back for more! read more

I was in the store today with a friend who was making a return and the woman at the information desk was so rude. She even accused my friend of lying which upset her. There was no lying involved. Give me a break. We have both worked in customer service manager roles ourselves and would never tolerate an employee like this. We spend a good amount of money at Russell's each year and will tell our friends and families to pass on going to this store. You don't know what people are dealing with at home and gardening is a happy place for avid gardeners. However, dealing with rude employees draws the line. Russell's has been around forever. They outshine the competition with selection and quality. The place is huge. The plants are arranged by type and name. I found all the signage really helpful and informative for each flower. As a bit of a novice gardener who wings it a bit, this information is really useful when I make my outdoor plant selections. Their plants are definitely a step above Home Depot. The quality is worth the extra cost. It is worth spending a bit more for plants and bushes that will be around for years and years. I can visibly see the difference which says a lot. They also have lots of interesting and cool items inside. It is worth the trip. read more

Never again! I echo Mary G's 5/20/2023 review. My wife and I are senior citizens. We had planned and looked forward to an outing to Russell's to return a plant that died and to purchase some $2000 worth of plants and trees. I'd brought the plant itself and was immediately scolded by a surly employee for not simply bringing a photograph. I presume she didn't want to be bothered to discard it for us. We found this employee and the woman at the information desk almost gratuitously rude throughout our interaction. Needless to say, we did not spend our $2000 at Russell's. We had heard good things about Russell's, so we were excited to stop by for some fall planting supplies. I was shocked at the size of the garden center, it's a little bit like a well marked maze, and we easily spent an hour wandering around. Not only does Russell's have tons of indoor and outdoor plants, they also have gifts, yard ornaments/tools, organic pest solutions, and a huge selection of planters. Staff was friendly and the checkout process was seamless. My only regret is not grabbing a cart on the way in, we ended up buying more than expected and we're struggling a little in the end! I'm looking forward to returning again in the Spring! read more

This place is GINORMOUS. Really, it almost should have it's own area code. I was so excited when I pulled in and saw it was 5 times what it looks like from Route 20. Oh man, THEY will have the veggies I'm looking for. Nope. Not even a tomato. Sure, if you're a tourist and want a weird hat and a spakley overpriced chintzy purse AND a plant for your garden, this is your place. I'm giving it three stars because it really is impressive, from a size standpoint. And although not entirely helpful, the staff was friendly. (And to be fair, I was looking for help finding someplace else to buy local veggies or veggie plants.) And if you want some flowers or trees for your garden, they probably have them, no matter what it is. (Or a coy pond, or knick nacks.) That said, I had a 2 star experience. read more

This garden center is fantastic! The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and nice. If they don't know the answer they find someone there who does have the information. They have a very wide selection of garden supplies from soil (the one we bought this year for our raised bed was incredible!), plants of all kinds, scrubs, garden supplies and even a good gift shop. I had a complex question that no one could answer for me so they gave me the email of the center manager. He wrote be back on a Sunday evening no less with a thoughtful helpful answer. My wife and I went to Russell's hoping that the staff could help advise us on the best types of shrubs to plant in front of our house. Most of the people who work there didn't appear interested in helping us out or sparing a few minutes to talk. After purchasing a couple of hundred dollars of plants from Russell's, we later experienced problems with a few of plants that appeared to be dying. We called their number on their info sheet that said to call at the first sign of trouble and we're surprised by the lack of concern from the plant specialist. She seemed to blame us for our lack of plant knowledge for the problems we were having. I would not recommend Russell's based on our experience with them. read more

I was at Russell's garden at Wayland first time yesterday. It is huge and I was lost going around and around and finally found the check out stand. Right away the cashier yelled at me loud for not giving the last customer who was checking out a safe distance and which was not true. I am a retired Chinese Registered nurse for 41 years. I had my two vaccine shots, wear my facemask properly at all times and give others safe distance. I asked to speak to a manager. When Jonathan, the manager came the cashier came out her booth stood close to us and was trying to defend her discourteous and disrespectful behavior by doing so she left no cashier in place to help the next customer! Jonathan listened and was kind, he offered to check me out. Does Russell's garden has a policy to treat ALL customers disregard race or creed the same with RESPECT? read more

Sure, they have great staff, and it's really fun to wander through here. It's Candyland for gardener's. But they are EXPENSIVE. You can get the same stuff, for way less, at other places. However, they sell annual vines, you can't find elsewhere. There's a few exotic annuals that you can't find ANYWHERE else. I'd go to the other places first, then come here for some really cool additions. read more

I stopped by at about 5:15 with my husband to look at their citrus tree selection. I was under the impression they closed at 5:30 (despite the odd party they appeared to be having and this Yelp page saying they're open til 8) so we made a beeline to their nursery area and promptly found their citrus trees. A very nice variety and varied sizes, I was really impressed. Even more impressed by the prices. We went to Weston Nurseries this morning and they had a bare selection with prices twice that of Russell's (for the exact same brand). Russell's citrus trees were $24.99 or $45. I was able to get two of the citrus plants I was looking for, at a reasonable price and able to pick from a few different pots. Will be back! read more
