Visitors here haven't no respect for the resting places of those around them. There has been so many times where I've seen families set up tents, tables, and bbq grills, and litter on top of others. Don't even get me started on the parents who let their kids treat this cemetery as a playground, throwing/kicking balls and breaking decorations. Or the owners who let their dogs pee and shit without picking it up. Absolutely disgusting behavior when people are already hurting over the death of their loved ones. The office doesn't care unless a huge group comes together to complain. Their staff also chipped my mother's marker during installation and placed it a couple inches away from her actual plot. I am a little upset I was told wrong information about cremation burial. my grandma wishes are to be put with my mom her daughter. I did what was told kept 96% of ashes and gave other to who she wanted now told must be 100% to be buried there. Then office staff told me I'm not the owner of plot everything was changed over years ago. How did I bury my mom there in 2011 without my grandma permission. They need to get it together stay more organized. Stop giving false hope and information. Now my grandmother wishes are not going to happen. read more

At Calvary Catholic Cemetery visiting a loved family member. Calvary is a spacious place with lost of character. Strolling through the park there are many old gravesites to see. Some are very interesting and beautiful to look at. There are benches along the paths for sitting and enjoying the surrounding area. Groundskeepers are very friendly, attentive, and helpful to people who come visit. Cemetery is conveniently located and makes easy to come visit regularly. read more

The reviews for this place are aligned with my experience. Having dealt with Jose Martinez, my experience was as follows: -He is rude and condescending -He insinuated I was being racist when I asked what his business communication background was because I needed him to explain a burial contract to me in laymen's terms, when in fact, we are both Mexican and he knew that. -He interrupted me over 6 times, 3 of them after I asked him to let me finish my question before jumping in. He was offended that I would dare question what was on the contract when I had made it clear that I was looking for clarification, not questioning. - Jose appears to have some sort of inferior complex missed with a God complex, which is an odd combination but would explain his odd behavior with someone that is technically a customer. -Jose lacks compassion during a time of grieving and is unprofessional and appears to have little to no business acumen or ability to work with the public. -He refused to continue our conversation because the contract belonged to my father, which I acknowledged and I indicated I was asking for information because my father was not in a physical or emotional state to address a burial, my brother had just passed - again, lacking sympathy in a time of grieving. -He hung up on me because after he said he should not be speaking with me since it was my father's contract and I asked so who would you speak to if I was trying to bury my father - click. Avoid this place and plan ahead and work with another business that is professional and understanding. Maybe one that does not act like they are doing you a favor as well. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. Despite the fact that they charge a lot, the office staff is disorganized. If you don't follow up, your paperwork WILL fall through the cracks. Additionally the gardener staff are lazy and others have told me they are thieves as well. Not only do you have to deal with the sadness of a beloved family member's death, but now you also have to deal with missing items that "have been thrown away" or taken for profit from the gardening staff. I have experienced this myself. I purchased over $500 worth of decorations including angelic statues blessed by our priest, only to come to an empty grave sight. Everything was " thrown away" according to office staff even though there was no disclaimer saying so. When I pointed that out to the office staff had no answers and declined reimbursement. Others have told me the same thing has happened to them and people have told them they take the nice things home to sell and make profit. It sickens me to think people are capable of stealing from the dead to make profit. Even removing items to be thrown away is stealing. The gardeners should be respectful of the items placed on the grave site. If it's in their way for cleaning or cutting grass, why not clean around it or remove the items, do their gardening work & place the items back. We pay so much money, isn't that what they're paid for? These people are heartless. Something needs to change. read more

9/24/17 Grandma's Mausoleum shutter and marker is finally complete today. It looks nice. Calvary Cemetery needs to improve and work on: 1.Communicate and return call asap. 2.On location office needs to be open and manned. 3. Be more sensitive to people in their time of mourning. 4. Have marble inventory matched and ready. 5. Mark and have inscriptions on grave headstones ready in a timely manner so family can see it before they have to leave the country. 6. Have a map of the cemetery. My mother and I had to go find and I.D. Grandmas plot since Calvary could not find it on their computer layout. 7. They may need to hire more marble venders and etchers. After the Thanksgiving day, Nov 26, 2021 I'm waiting the cemetery gate to be open since 8:30Am. The office voice-mail message that the cemetery ground would open at 8:00 Am. I've been waiting the gate to be open for almost 2 hours already and no sign it will open today. I decided to go home. On behalf of my family, I want to express our sincerest appreciation for Albert Manalo, Family Service Advisor at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, and his admin, Martha, for the caring and professional manner in which they provided exemplary service to our family during this very difficult time, during the passing of my aunt to be with our Heavenly Father. Albert's heartfelt guidance, compassion, sincere expressions of sympathy, hard-work, responsiveness, efficiency, kindness, passion, and dedication is genuinely appreciated. The extra measures of assistance that Albert provided us is prized and will not be forgotten. I am amazed at the level of patience that he had with us, over the course of a month, as we stumbled along, seemingly in a fog, at times. My aunt was given hours to live by her medical team, at the beginning of June. So, as my cousins were focused on being bedside with their mom during her final moments, I was frantically trying to research funeral options for my aunt, on behalf of my cousins. My aunt fought for every ounce of life, and hours turned into days, and to everyone's astonishment, days turned into several weeks. Albert valued and empathized with our grief and, without judgement, and with an abundance of patience, he allowed us to get through the funeral planning process at our own pace and schedule, respecting the fact that my aunt was at end of life, and he was very attentive and extremely responsive to the numerous emails, texts, calls, and questions that we had for him along the way. Given the urgency at times, of her passing taking place at any moment, and direct burial services still to be finalized and questions answered, he graciously made himself available even on his days off. I can't even imagine how challenging it is for him and his family that he is constantly on standby to receive urgent calls, but he handled it with such grace. Once we had a funeral service burial plan in place, Albert was very diligent and proactive in frequently providing status updates to me with respect to all aspects of the burial service planning process, and timelines; the field crew preparing my aunt's burial site, the documentation process, next steps, etc., which I appreciated immensely. That then allowed me to be able to provide status updates to my cousins, and that provided them with a sense of peace that all was being handled with diligence. I don't think, during what was such a difficult and emotionally exhausting time for all of us, we could have had any other Family Service Advisor take better care of us and my aunt, than Albert Manalo. Albert is very good at what he does. His heart is truly in it and he loves serving families and the community. It is refreshing to know that he is not commission oriented. He is very much customer service and compassion oriented, and his work exemplifies it. The amount of time that he selflessly poured into helping our family reflects that. He did not try to sell us funeral services that we did not need. He respectfully listened to my cousins' desires for their mother to be buried along with their grandmother and he went above and beyond to accommodate that request. When learning that Albert can help accommodate this request, my cousin and I were profoundly emotionally touched by the sentimental value in having her mom be laid to rest with her grandmother; so deeply touched that she and I both cried tears of joy in that precious moment. At a time when our family needed support, Albert Manalo was there for us to provide that incredibly valuable support. The burial service was beautiful and memorable. The care, compassion, dignity and upmost respect that Albert and Martha showed is truly appreciated and should be benchmark in the funeral service business. Never having gone through the experience before, I can just tell you that Albert and Martha made it so much easier; there was always a sense of calm with the genuine caring. Albert has a special talent and it takes a very special kind of person to do his job so wonderfully, filled with love and passion to serve the community and a kind heart to make a beautiful difference. His high caliber of excellence was beyond my expectations. He was Godsent. We are grateful to God for Albert's dedication to serving our family. We wanted to make sure that the community knows how much Albert is valued and appreciated. This is a very nice cemetery. But lately when I bring my girlfriend here to visit her mother and brother it seems like it is more difficult for us to find water canisters and water so that we can leave flowers. So what seems to be the problem with this? When love ones come and visit family at the cemetery we want to be able to have access to these very little things.. I was kicked out today for taking pictures of the statues inside the cemetery. Apparently taking photos is not allowed... I was very sad, as I love visiting cemeteries to photograph the unique monuments and historical gravesites that you can find. I've been to many cemeteries, and this was a first. I'm always respectful and avoid stepping on or otherwise disrespecting burial plots. Usually groundskeepers will get to know me and wave when they see me... guess that won't be happening here! I'm curious to know if anyone else has been kicked out for the same.. or if they were targeting me because of how I choose to look. read more

It is a well kept and clean place; however, I strongly disagree with the removal of flowers policy. Other cemeteries do not remove flowers every week. They leave the flowers and it never makes the cemeteries look unkempt but rather beautiful. It is very difficult to keep placing flowers after every Thursday. The lawn can be easily mowed even with the flowers on the flat headstones. I also have not had the best of luck getting replies regarding adding a picture to my father's headstone, which they advised me to not get in the first place, but now i regret taking that advice. read more

This is a Catholic cemetery, which I found just out today. I've passed by this place many times, but never noticed it was a "catholic" cemetery. This is a small cemetery with not many plots available I would imagine compared to Oak Hill, which is huge. Their driveways aren't too wide and there aren't many parking spots available. We laid Grandma to res today here and may she rest in peace. read more

I guess after visiting lately, they let this place go (landscape wise) I went by on may 31st and the back of these headstones look like crap! I asked my buddy to make a complaint and he says there's no one in the office anymore and that when he calls all he gets is a recording with no call backs. Both of my grandparents are gravesite so I come often to pay my respects and visit. The gardeners seem to be doing their job and keep the grass trimmed. If I could give it a zero I would. So my sisters headstone was delivered almost 3 weeks ago 11/20 and 3 weeks ago I called the cemetary and asked them when her headstone would be placed their response was we have 2 weeks to get it up and I asked if it was possible to get it up as soon as possible since her birthday was on 11/28 and the lady said well with the holidays I can't make any promises but the tone in her voice sounded like a big fat NO, no type of sympathy in her voice not a we will try out best NOTHING! So 2 weeks 12/4 came and we stopped by and still no headstone I called and the rep that answered said that she will take my message and have someone call me back cause no one was in the office. Today is 12/09 and NOBODY has called me back and guess what HER HEADSTONE IS STILL NOT UP tried to go speak to someone in the office and they were closed when the site says they close at 430 mind u its only 4pm!! This cemetary gets a BIG FAT ZERO for Lack of sympathy, for being heartless to our loss, terrible customer service, disrespectful for not returning a grieving families call and of course for not having my sisters headstone up by the end of the 2 week mark. read more

If I could give a ZERO I would. My Father-In-Law was laid to rest there in June of this year. From the very beginning they have shown how unempathetic, unprofessional and indecent people they are. When we arrived the area was set up but items of the workers were left scattered around our grave site like tools, hats, and sweatshirts. To me, this is laziness and not caring to make the area presentable for the grieving family of the man being laid to rest. Then, before the service was over, the workers started hovering over the grave site, around the family members, sitting on other peoples graves and tombstones near the service. And again before we even ended our service they began to lower the casket until we had to stop them ourselves. None of this was appropriate. THEN to add insult to injury... SANDRA has given us the run around for 4 months about making an appt to get his headstone made. My wife, me, and my mother in law have all called numerous times (weekly minimum, sometimes multiple times in a week) and even left messages, over the last 4 months and she hasn't even had the decency to call back. Then to add to the insult.. we hand painted a plaque and a cross for his grave site and they not only removed it but threw it away. These people are obviously not caring or empathetic (which I think is important in this industry) and obviously do not care about their business either. Overall this is very poorly run and a huge disappointment to a family who also have to deal with the loss of a loved one. read more

If I could give the caretakers of this cemetery a 5 star rating I would ,and the cemetery records and owners a big fat ZERO. They moved my grandparents headstone from the old area with the palm trees by Alum Rock Ave to a newer section then and lied about it. Even showed me records, sorry but my grandparents died way before any of those people in the new section. I took my 96 year old father there and he was appalled. I remember, as well as other family members, pulling the weeds that grew in between the seams on the huge cement slab and around the large cross on top of the slab. Plus they were very close to my other relatives buried there. There are now mausoleums in the front and my father said those weren't there when his parents were buried in 1916 and 1931. Many of the areas that had cement slabs are now filled with gravel, I never recalled seeing gravel as a kid. I plan to legally peruse this and anyone else with the same problem is welcome to contact me. I don't care how many new owners there were and if the fires burned all the records years ago....what they did was blasphemous for a Catholic cemetery. read more

Paid for a headstone frame in October and as of December still not installed. I called and Sandra gave me a BS story about not knowing a third party was carving the headstone, since they don't carve headstones there I knew she was trying to cover her incompetence. I was told in December that a work order would be issued 'righr away'. Here we are in February and still not installed, now I'm being told they don't like to dig on the mud. Really? 5 months to not provide a service that was paid for? Place your loved ones here and be prepared to be disappointed. My family has been members of this diocese for 150 years, poured nothing but money unto this church to be treated like second class citizens. read more

This has been the WORST experience ever. My mother passed Dec 2015 (14 months) and still NO marker! Been talking to Denise Fullerton, local representative, for the most part, she has been helpful. She picked up my case 6 months ago after the previous Rep was no longer at the company. I was never communicated or informed. On 2/15/2017, I was informed by the headstone company California Monument Co that the marker has been delivered last week. So I've been trying to confirmed and see what the next steps are to make sure that it is set. Like the other reviewer, I have left messages for Sandra Gonzales, in charge of setting markers, numerous times thru emails, voice mails...still no responses. I then got another contact name, Elizabeth Weatherly, Director...again left messages and still NO RESPONSES. I got on their website today and started LIVE CHAT with an online Rep to see if I can find another way to get thru. He, Dan, said that he would pass on the message and someone will call me back... You could imagine the frustration of 14 months of nothing!!! It is now 2 months PASSED my mother's memorial without a marker to even have a proper memorial service for her! Being in the people's business as they are and supposedly helping people at their time of mourning, and consolation...this is all that they have to offer you? NOTHING! read more

First of all this is a place you don't want to be at all and they made a sad day even sadder, when we got to the cemetary the plot was not ready for our family member. They told us it would take 3hrs to prepare and that they would call us when it was ready and anyone who wanted to come back could, there were at least 75-90 family and friends there so we continued on home and waited to be called after about 2 1/2 hrs my daughter called them and asked if it was ready and the person on the phone told her that her grandmother had been buried and that everything was already done. Mind you they buried her with NO one there I am so angry at the way this was handled there were no apologies just a no one told me to call you by the counsler there!!!! This is so very bad customer service and without a heart. I hope this never happens to anyone again :( read more

The customer service here is horrible. I went here to visit my grandfather after he was buried about 7 months prior and I couldn't remember where exactly it was so I went to the office to ask (after several times of walking around) and the lady who helped me was extremely rude and said she couldn't help me because the computers were down. Even if the computers were down she could have made more of an effort to try and help me and at least she could have been sensitive to the matter. If I could give the groundskeepers 5 stars I would. When I left the office I was almost in tears and a gardener came up to me and asked if I needed help because he saw me walking around earlier and I explained to him the situation and he asked my grandfathers name I told him and he showed me exactly where it was. The headstone had still not been placed there after 7 months and he felt bad so he went and found me a extra case and put it there. He was so helpful and sweet and helped make a upsetting situation a bit easier. read more
