    RIP... John "Peaches" Hwang
    Walter P.

As John's coffin was being lowered, the gray clouds had parted ways allowing the sun to break through casting its heat and light upon us. We all looked at the sun. We were confused and looked at each other. Our sorrows and tears paused. It went from cold and gloomy to warm and spiritual. This was a great omen and a clear sign that John was leaving for Heaven. A song came into mind and I started to chant to myself as I thought about our departed brother John "Peaches" Hwang . . . Bone Thugs N Harmony - Crossroads http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VMYAEHE2GrM

I have been Visiting my grandfather here for the last 18 years!! He is in the veterans area near the front entrance. They always provide flags on the veterans graves for Veterans and Memorial Day!! This cemetery is the most beautiful cemetery you will find around here. The scenery is astounding and peaceful. It is extremely well maintained. The grass is mowed weekly and you can count on it!They remove flowers weekly, therefore you never see dead flowers nor is it ever messy. Just check the signs to see when the mowing and flower removal days. They have exceptions during certain holidays. I always leave a little christmas tree during christmas time. If your flowers are new and in good condition during removal/mow day, sometimes they leave them. As I noticed when I came twice in one week, my flowers were still there after mow/removal day. (They were still alive and appealing is why I think they left them). I come here pretty often and grounds keeper may observe that too. I'm sure it probably costs a lot to be buried here, (I have no idea) although I must say, it's definitely worth every penny my family paid. It brings me joy to visit my grandfather in such a beautiful cemetery. Pick up flowers at trader joes down the street for 3.99-9.99, I don't see the flower vendor anymore. Again, this cemetery is absolutely beautiful and worth every penny.

I can't understand why are there complaints about the Park. Both my parents are buried here and the followup services were impeccable. We could not had asked for more.

My mom and I went there today to sign contract for burial plot for Calvary cemetery but when we saw how beautiful & peaceful the Gate of heaven cemetery was , we changed to there! They even have wonderful honored space for our military veterans! I was apprehensive to do this at first but after seeing the grounds here, the kind ppl that worked there. I know it really feels like the gate to heaven.

The Gate of Heaven Cemetery is located in Los Altos, California, at the foot of the Los Altos Hills. Owned and operated by the Catholic Diocese of San Jose, this cemetery is nestled in a tranquil setting of lush manicured lawns, colorful flowers and shrubbery, majestic trees, and a glistening pond with a waterfall -- that can be viewed well from a natural stone footbridge.

From the initial body collection through the funeral service itself, their team helped shoulder a burden that felt impossible at the time. Ian, Michelle, Andrea, and Fabian were all kind, attentive, and deeply respectful throughout the entire process. Being able to have everything coordinated and completed within a single week was nothing short of a lifesaver, and their willingness to open early for us was an extra act of kindness we won't forget. On the day of the service, all of the flowers sent by loved ones were beautifully arranged, adding a sense of care and dignity to the space. Death is never easy to accept, and navigating logistics while grieving only makes it harder. While no one can ease the loss itself, the people at Berge‑Pappas‑Smith made an incredibly painful experience more manageable through their empathy and support. For that, our family is sincerely thankful.

Ian and the team at Berge-Pappas-Smith Chapel of The Angels in Fremont made an incredibly difficult time a little less emotionally taxing. They treated my loved one with genuine dignity and respect while also treating me with compassion, authenticity, and understanding. What stood out most was their ability to meet me where I was in the process. They never made me feel rushed or overwhelmed, and they provided clear guidance on costs, timeframes, and next steps. That clarity meant a great deal when there were already so many other things to process. Funeral arrangements are never going to be easy, but having a team that is authentic, transparent, and genuinely compassionate makes an enormous difference. I'm grateful to Ian and his team for helping us navigate a difficult moment with dignity and care. Highly recommended to anyone who finds themselves needing these services.

When my father passed away at home, surrounded by his loved ones, Daniel came to retrieve him with such professionalism, compassion, and respect. He was incredibly gentle and cared for my dad's body as though he were still alive. He patiently waited while every member of our family had the opportunity to say their final goodbyes before gently and respectfully taking my father into his care. One small gesture that meant so much to us was that Daniel asked what my father's favorite music was so he could play it for him during the drive back to Lima & Campagna. That level of thoughtfulness and care is something our family will never forget. Daniel was also incredibly accommodating, offering helpful advice about services and providing kind, supportive words to our family as we grieved. Daniel's experience really shows through the way that he handles the business side of death; all paperwork was organized and well prepared. As devastating as losing a parent is, I feel so much more at peace knowing that my dad was treated with such dignity, gentleness, and care. Thank you, Daniel, for taking such wonderful care of my father and for showing our family so much compassion during an incredibly heartbreaking time. We will never forget your kindness.

I found myself in a crisis situation where the sheriffs department told me to call a mortuary to come take care of a relative. It was a weekend and I had absolutely no idea how to proceed. I got out my phone and did a search for the closest mortuary and Alameda popped up. I gave them a call and explained my situation and the wonderful woman who answered my call walked me through exactly what the next steps were. I didn't get her name, but she was absolutely fantastic to work with in a very difficult situation. A few hours later, the right folks arrived and took care of the situation. The following Monday first thing in the morning we went to the funeral home and met with Paul. Paul was right out of central casting for somebody to guide us through what would happen over the next two weeks. Paul spent about an hour and a half with us that morning walking us through all of the things we needed to make decisions about and next steps. He was absolutely fantastic to work with and I can't possibly imagine how that very difficult experience could have been any better than to have been guided by Paul. I hope that if I ever find myself in this situation in the future, I can find Paul or somebody exactly like him. For the funeral itself, Michael was our funeral director and again we could not have asked for a better person to be in charge. Michael knew exactly what to do intuitively and working with him at the cemetery was absolutely fantastic. I really can't recommend Alameda Family any higher. Everything was taken care of in a perfect way.

I was looking at mortuaries, alone with an unfamiliar duty in an unfamiliar location. I finally turned to Yelp to see what was posted about mortuaries I'd looked at when David from Honor Cremations popped up to say he thought he could help me. I truly felt an instant feeling of safety and trust. Sometimes we're lucky enough to get guidance. David is kind, sympathetic and morale. I spent the next several years feeling secure for when the time came. One of the few things I was able to feel secure about. When my husband did pass in the middle of the night in the veteran hospital hospice, they knew to call Honor. Because it might take time for Honor to arrive, the hospital wanted to take my husband to their mortuary and I refused saying we would wait for Honor. I trusted them and knew he'd be in good hands and those feelings were right. The gentleman who arrived to take my husband helped the nurse prepare him so when he came out of the room he was draped in the American flag. With everything else my husband and I went through with the change in care facilities, finances, and just 'handling it all' as my husband's condition worsened over the years, David's honesty and compassion took this step off my shoulders. I have purchased Honor Cremation for myself, so our children have the confidence to know everything will be taken care of. Thank you David and Honor Cremations. The Memorial: They helped us navigate the details for her memorial with so much respect. Everything was handled professionally, allowing us to focus on honoring her memory rather than worrying about the logistics. I am so grateful to have had their guidance during this time. If you are looking for a team that treats your loved ones with true honor and provides a seamless, compassionate experience, I cannot recommend them highly enough. I also really appreciated the honesty in their business model. I know it could technically be cheaper if they did every single thing in-house, but they intentionally use outside sources for certain steps to ensure everything is handled by specialists. I actually felt like I got more value this way because I knew I was getting the best possible care at every stage. It's also worth noting for other families that they don't have an embalming service; they focus purely on a dignified, natural process which was exactly what we wanted for my mom.
