Mindy was great, walked me through a plan and i was headed off to the races. I'm not sure I really understood it, but I rolled with it as best as I could. Fast forward a handful of years later and I wanted to revisit my plan. A lot changed from job to income and I needed something new after selling some real estate. The 2nd experience wasn't quite the same for a number of perspectives. What hit me the hardest was hearing what was said about my situation behind the scenes after my first consultation with Mindy. The planner (Sam) actally said outloud they didn't believe I could make something happen with the previous plan. Guess what, I did do something. Now I'm in need of another plan after an unexpected windfall, but don't trust the experience won't be the same. The other part I don't get is why it was suggested to open a brokerage account (which I did based on the plan) when playing the stock market is not something I do or comfortable with. Anything having to do with stocks and the market scares me and I'm very uncomfortable on any financial site outside of a bank. Nothing makes sense and vocabulary is vague. I expressed my discomfort in this area and needed a lot of hand holding to execute moving funds and opening a brokerage account. I still don't understand this one, but I did it based on a recommendation. Now I am sittiing with a brokerage account and it's doing nothing because the thought of it just paralyzes me. While the set it and forget it method is great concept in theory, it's only as good as the plan and the clients ability realistically execute. Although the 2nd plan was a great idea to retire at 62, it had zero reality of lifes unexpected changes. Good Luck!

"If you need somebody you can trust, trust yourself"…read more Bob Dylan was right but heck, I know NOTHING of investment banking so I had to trust someone else to help me on this. I had some complicated moving a 403b into an IRA paying for school money switcherroo I was putting off for years as I was sure it would hurt real bad to deal with all that paperwork and red tape. I was definitely procrastinating, waiting until the last possible second. WHY DID I WAIT? Paula at Edward Jones is such an easygoing, friendly, professional and kind human being, I mean, she made it not only painless and easy, but FUN? I've worked with her via an agency I worked at as well and she was a great resource for all things related to both retirement plans and socially conscious investing for our board of directors. All that and she has an adorable dog at the office & a whipsmart assistant manning the front desk who is like her secret weapon of more niceness. If you need any help of the financial kind, I tell you Paula's there to help and if I trust her, I can assure you she's the one you can also lay your trust with.

Every person I saw for advice was trying to sell me something, wasn't listening to my concerns, and/or was trying to sell me the kool-aid that their firm served. So after losing money or not making much I sat down with Angel, back in 2007. Risk was a word he threw out consistently, he was down on real estate and he made argument that the whole thing lacked any common sense. We spent hours creating a financial plan. That plan saved me in 2008. My account ended up for the year and so I called Angel and told him that I wanted him to manage all of my money. What I like about Angel is that he will take the time to explain what he believes would be the best portfolio for ME, due to my circumstances and personality. His firm then goes out and makes the investments, kind of like how a mutual fund would, while tailoring it to ME. I love it! If you are looking for someone who would be a great adviser, who will work with you, answer any questions you might have and who is really smart then Angel Cruz is your man. If you are looking for someone who won't try to sell you a bunch of junk because he makes a great commission, Angel is you man because he a fee-based-only adviser. I have referred all my family and friends to Angel and I now am referring him to you. Tell him Kyle sent you.

I do not recommend Chad Burton at the EP Wealth Advisors office in the Portland, OR/Vancouver, WA…read moreregion. I was a client when he owned New Focus Financial. In my opinion, Chad and his team were irresponsible when the market turned down in 2007-2008 by not taking action to cut investment losses at a reasonable point in time and it resulted in a serious loss in my assets. It was stunning. There were multiple investments that had no indication of bottoming on the chart and no action was taken when stocks and ETF's were 25% down and falling. It was as if they were ignorant of stop losses and technical chart reading. Chad's response was my assets were managed with a strategy for the 'long run'. And he told me "stop losses are not a guarantee a transaction will occur right at the stop loss if there is a gap down. I understood that. Chad and his team never implemented stop losses on the trades. They made an investment on my behalf but were not actively managing the portfolio of stocks. When the losses had gone past our established risk tolerance threshold I had to instruct Chad to exit my investments and close my account. And there was a delay in having a portion of my account returned and one of his attorney's got involved as an intimidation tactic. The impression Chad gave me was his focus was on radio and seminar appearances with partner Rob Black and his team managed the client assets. Stay away!
