This was a great kayaking trip to see a lot of wildlife - mostly manatees, some dolphins, and a lot of birds. We went out into the river and rode along the banks where Phil explained a lot about the foliage, and showed us some interesting birds along the way. He also took us to a manatee graveyard which I though was really interesting. Towards the end we got to go out to a nice little island and walk around for a few minutes. It felt like a robinson crusoe type island. It was a nice relaxing day spent out in the sun. As far as recommendations go, I've been on some other kayaking tours in the area before and the other companies provided bottled water, and water proof bags for our belongings. When I showed up for the tour with Calypso, I asked if they had water for us or anything to put our belongings in on the kayak. The answer to both questions was a firm "No". I think it would be a nice touch to offer these amenities. I would still recommend this tour as it was a great experience. Just make sure to bring your own water! read more

Was able to book a spot that same day. Adrena (spelling?) took care of us and she was a great guide. Patient and funny - showed us around and my family and I had a great time. The waters out there was so beautiful, just as beautiful as I remembered when I went for my first time in Jamaica. Kayaks were clean and newish - navigation thru the waters was easy. My 5 year old daughter had a blast. It was super cool to see the fish swimming under water, at one point they were jumping up and out the water creating beautiful splashes and a few even jumped into other people's boats! The weather was perfect, the night was clear and off in the distance there was lighting strikes which made the whole experience and scenery that much more amazing. 100% recommend doing this during the season where you can see the bioluminscents! read more

This small company is awesome. We called once we arrived at Manatee Cove (where we wanted to paddle board) and the guy was able to deliver 5 paddle boards to us without any notice within 20 minutes. Our original plans fell through but his service completely turned our day around! The price was very reasonable and he picked up the boards at the same location once we were finished 2 hours later. The boards were high quality and in great condition and he also provided life jackets & paddles. We'll definitely be using him for all of our future paddle board/kayak adventures! read more

A dew months ago, Juan and I purchased a Groupon from Calypso Kayaking and we had a superb time! Booking was easy... you just needed to call 24 hours prior to your planned date and book a time to go Kayaking. So we did and agreed in a meeting spot to use our rented Kayaks. I'm not sure how this company works, but the employee who brought the kayaks was a different person that I had not spoken too when I booked the rental. He arrived a few minutes later than the agreed time (about 15) and had a bit of difficulty explaining to use the correct meeting spot. Other than that, he left the rented kayaks with us and basically told us to call him if we were ready to leave before the two hours. We thought it was odd that we didn't have to sign a waiver, even though we were left on our own on a bay, but we are adventurous, so we didn't really give it much thought! We saw some dolphins from a far and were amazed! After kayaking for about an hour and 30 minutes, we were good to go and called the employee. He arrived about 15 minutes later and loaded the equipment to his truck (with Juan's help) and then we all left. All in all, we had a splendid time and are thankful nothing crazy happened! We called at the last moment and booked the evening tour. My friend was terrified of water, and our guide was reassuring and patient. The group was small, which was good because our guide Aerin was brilliant, but has a soft voice. So it was great to be right by her and we stayed closed. She made sure everyone was able to experience the wildlife, and her knowledge of flora and fauna is great. She added in history and definitely deepened my appreciation for the area. Phil was great on the phone, answered questions and was honest and helpful. It is not a thrill-based tour, but it was beautiful, peaceful and a little eerie at times. Loved it. We did the summer time plankton bioluminescent tour at night, it was amazing! I remember seeing bioluminescence washing up on the shore as a kid in Alabama and thinking it looked so cool, but this was way cooler than I remember. The glowing blue in the water was vibrant and the guide did a good job of getting the fish to jump which further lit up the water. Our tour was scheduled for 9 pm, but we didn't leave until 9:30. They had mosquito torches out but the mosquitos were still pretty brutal and something died nearby the launch site, so the smell was gut wrenching. Probably would have been better to sign in, then wait in the car, but we still had a very memorable time and would definitely take friends to do it again. read more

I had this at a 5 star after our first outing with our free-spirit guide Sven and then we took the bioluminescent tour with a lunkhead who mumbled and fumbled around about the same things Sven knew by heart. We used calypso kayaking to rent paddle boards last minute when our typical paddle board place had closed for the day. I called once we got to manatee cove & Phil was able to stop by in less than 20 minutes with 5 paddle boards for our group. Prices were amazing $22 for 2 hours. I believe $29 for 3-4 hours. We had the best time paddling around manatee cove and out a bit. The transaction was seamless & professional. Next time we'll get reservations just in case. We took the 2 hr kayaking tour and had a great time. The time of the season we came was when the manatees were not around as much, but we got to see dolphins, many birds, and berry-producing trees. The tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable. It is definitely a great escape from all the tourism and hooplah around the rest of Florida. My favorite was kayaking through the mangroves! Six of us went together for the nighttime bioluminescence tour. While the dolphins made themselves almost scarce and the manatees were sleeping, seeing the water and fish glow was amazing. The two dolphins we did see put on a small glowing show for us--that was memorable enough; I didn't need to see a lot. This was one of the most interesting and exciting things I've done in Florida. I highly recommend it. Also--you will get wet! So be prepared and don't complain. Phil is an excellent tour guide; he knows the river and lagoons very well, and he was super sweet. The bioluminescence was about a 5 out of 10 during our 9:30PM trip. This was certainly no one's fault. That's where the review takes a turn. The life vests were damp and smelled of mildew. The guides explained before we launched that there would be three guides; one in front to lead, one in the middle of the pack and one in the rear to keep an eye on everyone. It sounded like the guide in the front *may* have been giving some educational type info but 50%+ of the boats weren't close enough to hear. The guide in the back said "f*ck, f*ckin, f*cked" more times than I could count during the trip. He was much more interested in socializing with a boat of guests than doing his job of watching for boats (aka safety). He also has strong feelings about Miami and Cubans. Classy, dude. Several boats also listened to him talk about the pros/cons of moving to Utah. Seriously?! Talk about distracting. I'd like to try this trip again with another company. read more

They were very flexible, on site early and the guide was attentive to the group as we paddled and informative about the wild life. We had 10 minutes w 2 manatees, that was very cool. They lost a star because the service / interaction was luke warm - not positive or customer oriented. They weren't clear on who had paid and who hadn't, so a few guests had to check their records to show they had paid. This isn't a job the guide loves, he's ok with it, seems he likes being in nature but maybe not the guest interaction as much. He wasn't negative, just luke warm. The kayaks are older, but stable in the water. I felt safe. read more

Went on a 6pm sunset tour and it was one of the best adventures we've had! Sven, our tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about his vocation. This is more than a "job" to him and his enthusiasm was evident immediately. Spent over 1/2 hour in the lagoon up close with a ginormous manatee! Just incredibly awesome! Then plenty of kayaking out into the Indian River, with a short break at Orange Island. Nice spot for photos and continuous learning regarding the different plants, trees and wildlife of the area. Had a very pleasant 2 hours. Well worth the price. Both guides were very friendly and willing to help even novices at kayaking. They were vigilant and provided good supervision. Were knowledgeable on the tour and really motivated to give us a good experience. We saw three Dolphins and two manatee so this really helps with the success of the trip. Kayaks and paddles in excellent condition, life jackets available and were carried on kayaks. I was very worried at first on just showing up at a park and going off with some stranger into unknown areas but can say that with a child of 11years and two grandparents the trip was excellent way of spending a couple hours seeing nature and learning about the ecosystems along the Indian River. read more

He was able to adapt to having a tour (just our family) that included a semi-experienced kayaker and two novices. He was friendly and the price for the tour was reasonable. Really fun trip! We are Nationals fans visiting Spring training in Viera / Melbourne and wanted something to do when the Nationals had an off day. We are so glad we went with Calypso Kayaking. We went on the 3pm tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic, but best of all, we saw dolphins playing very close to our boats! Merritt Island, Titusville and Cocoa Beach are one of the few areas that you can experience bio luminescence. Apparently the best time to go is within 5 days before, or 5 days after a new moon. My sister, mom and I went and our tour guide's name was Adam I believe. We met at some remote park location at 8:30 to leave at 9 p.m. If you are not familiar with the area, be prepared with lots of bug spray. I forgot to put bug spray on my nose, and apparently every mosquito in the area bit my nose which then made it look swollen. The kayaking tour was fun - definitely good for beginners in kayaking. It's not grueling physical activity, I've definitely been on other tours (in completely different areas), that are much more taxing on your body, but that has more to do with the geography of the kayaking area. I feel kind of cheated from the bioluminescent tour. So I'm not sure if it has to do with us going 5 days after the new moon, or if it's the way the bioluminescence works. Pretty much for the water to glow, something needs to activate it - such as your paddle hitting the water, your hand going into the water, fish jumping. So for a good 70% of the 90 minute tour, everything was black. Be prepared with awkward moments of trying to find members of your group in other kayaks, thinking the people next to you are them when they sadly are not. I think the day kayaking would have been much more beautiful, and I could have seen more wildlife. The tour guide was nice, but just know this isn't a private tour with your own group, but one that is with multiple parties. read more
