My dog and I are spending part of the year nearby. They boarded my dog fir a few days and dud a great job. I took her back for a checkup and med refill as she has congestive heart failure. The vet was thorough and very caring. I will definitely return. Recommend! read more

Ethics and accountability are lacking with this one. After reading his radiograph incorrectly, Michael Berkland lost us a week of time in caring for our dog. His doctor's notes confirm this. When we approached him on the issue had no known information on his own radiograph. After taking her to a second veterinarian, who found enough on the Camanche radiograph to immediately warrant an ultrasound and biopsy, she was immediately taken to Cedar Rapids to sustain her life while further tests were being done. While under the care of Camanche Veterinary Clinic I was told she would be put on pain medicines from day one and that was not done. I have audio documentation confirming that. She suffered for 6 days with severe pancreatitis and Michaels excuse was he didn't want to give her more medicines than she needed. I was given complete attitude by the lady veterinarian, Rachel Trenkamp, when I asked about why four of her legs were full of fluid. Her response was - Oh we'll worry about that in the morning. Anyone who's ever had fluid retention knows how painful that can be even with pain medication administered. When I approached Michael with our concerns he passed the blame to everyone else including myself. I asked for my money to be returned and he said he would. Then after calling the second vet he wrote me a letter and explained that because I called something a mass on his radiograph that wasn't a mass, even though he missed it himself and didn't know what it was until the second vet did an ultrasound, he refused to return the money. It was actually a lymph node swollen 10 times its normal size. He missed it plain and simple. His doctors notes all say that her lymph system was in health working order. The second doctors notes also claim an unknown mass and that was the reason for the ultrasound. I'm not a doctor but until the ultrasound was done by the second vet he didn't know the difference either... He just didn't care. I will be filing a complaint with the veterinary board and also with small claims. We lost a lot of time due to his incompetence and ended up spending far more money than his initial bill due to negligence. My dog had to suffer terribly because of his actions. I don't know what to say after all this time I've tried to forget about you. My heart is still empty and breaks more and more with each passing day. April 21st is a day I will never forget. On one hand I remember your kindness in letting me lay on the floor in absolute gut wrenching pain. Listening to me make every deal I could with heaven and hell. For that I'm grateful. I remember at one point watching my body from above it's only something I've shared once before privately. After that everything is a blur. I woke up that day with my child and yes I said my child. He was that for me and still is. I never would have imagined what that day turned out to be. The real disappointment, sadness and anger comes days later with one of your staff members. The way I was spoken to on the phone was absolutely horrible. I have no words. I wanted answers. There was no blame I just wanted details. I was grieving I still am. I don't know what I was really looking for. Comfort maybe? Someone to tell me this wasn't real. I was grasping. My child's father heard the whole conversation, begging with me to please hang up and not listen to him. Knowing that what this person was saying was so cruel that it was bound to take me spiriling down a path I may not recover from. My husband left to pick up bubba's ashes. Which by the way you never called me about. When he arrived he told another staff member he didn't want that person bringing our baby out for fear of what he would do. And that was it. He never yelled or screamed just that statement in his time of grief. Still no phone call to this day. But weeks after I said goodbye to my sweet baby another gut punch. A letter from you stating how future business was terminated. You didn't need to put that nail in my coffin. You knew he was an only child. You could have just let this go. But you had to hurt me again. Still no answers about my sweet boy. You took the time to write your letter I just wish you had taken the time to speak with me about my child. I'm still lost and broken. Life is horrible. Most days I still don't get out of bed. For me I lost a child that day. The best part of my life. For 9 sweet years that sweet baby brought me pure joy. And in an instant it was gone. I hope you never make this same mistake again. The not knowing is the worst or maybe it isn't..... I will never know because you took that away from me.
