I worked with Jan, who covers the Ventura area, and she was an absolute pleasure to work for. She was very friendly and personable, asked me questions about my father's needs, budget, and area of interest. She then prepared a list of 5 different facilities, set up tours, and toured the with me to ensure all of my questions were answered. She also had a wealth of knowledge about each facility, and helped me decide the best fit for my father. After moving him in, she also checked in regularly to see how the move was going, which was a very nice personal touch. I would highly recommend this service for anybody who needs to help a family member move to assisted living. It made the whole process easier and more manageable.

This was the second place she was in memory care, and there is no comparison. The staff here is so caring and professional. They keep in regular touch with the residents' families, and spend a tremendous amount of time on enrichment activities with each resident. The food is excellent, and was served in a restaurant-like environment before the pandemic. Now it is catered to each room They also hosted a private birthday lunch in one of their small dining rooms for our family and my mother-in-law. Since the pandemic they have done a marvelous job of keeping residents safe. Most of the staff and management have been here a long time, and it's easy to see why.

Edith is particularly outstanding because she truly cares and is on her game with details, always wanting feedback (good or bad) to make your loved one's experience the best it can be. Now, with assisted living facilities this can sometimes be like moving a mountain. But, she earnestly tries. She's got your back. However, despite this, we are actually moving my dad to another local facility shortly due to one of Sunrise's bad qualities, horrible in fact, and that is...pricing. Again, to be found at many assisted living facilities but costs at Sunrise are higher than most...and they price differently than most. For example, when you first talk to them they speak of the rent as a flat rate. But it's not. Sunrise charges you a day rate per month. So your cost varies per month based on days of the month. The rent is better in February, September, April, June and November. But the other seven months with 31 days...all higher. And surprise...there are more months with 31 days in a year so the house wins. It's a bad optic. Despite the costs, they serve generic soda vs. Coke and Pepsi brands. Small yes, but at these prices...bad optic. They only have transportation offered 2 days a week while most other places provide 7 days. Again, for what they charge...bad optic. And one other thing. No matter what month you move in, your rent will be increased come January by 5-10%. The contract makes it sound like it's a random event, but it happens every year like clockwork and you will be notified 60 days in advance. And remember, you have your highest leverage to negotiate (the move-in fee, etc.) before you sign the contract. So with Sunrise, the people are terrific. The prices are not. And in the end, it's a shame that a business that exists to provide care often comes across as caring more about the money.

Besides the fact that my Dad become infected with SCABIES (which are highly contagious) while at The Royal Gardens of Camarillo, we saw dog poop on in the hallway several times, and it often smells like urine there. A staff-worker, unauthorized to push or wheel Residents, flipped Dad's Walker (Dad hit his head and she badly injured her arm) and they were both taken to the hospital; when we refused to pay for the ambulance Royal Gardens admitted that their staff worker should​ not have been wheeling a Resident. They are also severely short-staffed at Royal Gardens. I've often heard Residents calling out for someone to please come help them, and I've turned on my Dad's Call Light many times and found that it took 10-15 minutes for someone to come. Also, I've gone into Dad's room more than once to find no toilet paper and/or no towels, full wastebaskets, and food trays left from previous meals. Paying $4000 a month should get you better care. We've had other bad experiences there and I am willing to share them with you: Laura at 808-990-7848). PS-the food is good and they have several very kind, helpful employees, it's too bad they are under-staffed.

The staff has been stellar, very caring, very loving, and there hasn't been the rate of turnover that you typically experience in these type of facilities. Christina, the events coordinator, has amazing energy, patience, follow through and does a fantastic job keeping residents safe and engaged, as does the other care staff. The food has been really good and the top notch events and activities have kept our dad as mentally sharp as can be expected.
