A really good place for pub food. The burgers are good, and I've eaten an order of their sweet potato fries for dinner, they're so great. In fact, all of their fries are good, so definitely get them! The nachos are also excellent-- I've made dinner out of those too. (sense a trend here?) Another great thing is their drinks-- never before have I been served a vodka tonic in a 12-oz glass! And it wasn't too watery, either. They're also really good about accommodating large groups of people, so definitely go here with a group of friends for your next gathering! read more

I have to admit - I've never actually eaten here. Drink from their beer collection? You bet! This is my favorite 'dive bar' in the area (don't get me wrong - on the scale of actual dive bars, this would be the Ritz). I have been coming to the Common for well over a decade and enjoying great service at the bar for delicious beers and excellent food. JP knows his clientelle and his beers--my friends and I often make our destination choice on the bartender and JP is always a winner. I have had less successful evenings with the waitstaff at the tables; so I avoid the tables and stick to sitting at the bar. I am a big fan of the English burger. Tonight I had the grilled meatloaf and thought it was more like Salisbury steak than meatloaf. This is the first meal in more than a decade that has disappointed me. read more

I've lived in Porter Square for 8 years. I've been to the Common, many of the other local joints, and they have earned their place in my life as my neighborhood bar. I always know what to expect here, no surprises. And no matter how busy they are, you can almost always get a table without waiting. When I think neighborhood bar, I think of a place where I can get a beer and good pub food. Nothing fancy, nothing expensive. That's what they deliver. The almost 100% selection of craft beers on tap is awesome. There are new beers rotated in daily and I swear there's always something on tap I've never tried before. The beers are reasonably priced too, which makes all the difference. The food is good pub and comfort food. Burgers, sandwiches, and salads. Again, not expensive and just plain good. This isn't the "best food I've ever had", and they're not trying to be that. I like going here because its comfortable and casual. Why four stars? The fifth could be earned with better attention of the wait and bar staff to customers. They're not always on their game at the bar greeting you and asking what your order is. The Common is my go-to for late night food (kitchen serves 'til 1 am Fri-Sat), great beer, Red Sox or Celtics games or if my wallet is light and my dishes have piled up. Everyone who works here is always sweet as pie. They have put together the best beer program in the Boston area. Their rotating lines are just that and are well maintained. One of the first places to put in a rotating cask line. And if you can't find something you want on the specials list, they have better house beers than anywhere else. Prices are great, too. This is one of our favorite spots for dinner and drinks. We used to live around the corner, so we would go about once a week or more. This is a great place to take friends and visitors because anyone can find something they want on the menu and the beers on tap are reasonably priced and extensive. Service has always been great here for us. Since we go so often, some of the servers know us and make sure to give us a booth. If you're having a trouble selecting a beer from the long list of daily specials, ask for a recommendation--the servers are pretty knowledgeable. They are also awesome about letting you taste a beer or two to help you make up your mind. While the burgers are excellent and cheap, brunch food for us has been a mixed bag. We went a few times but it wasn't our favorite. My girlfriend ordered a tofu scamble and it was really watery. She didn't send it back, but she didn't eat much either (she hates complaining, especially at places we frequent and know the food is generally really good). The waitress noticed and asked if my girlfriend would prefer something else. She ended up bringing waffles and didn't charge us for either. That's what I call excellent customer service. All in all, a great place to bring a date, friends, or family. Good prices, solid food, great service, and great beer. I like this place because it is close to my school! It's easy to get to if my friends and I want to get a bite. The atmosphere is pretty cozy and they seem to have a great selection at the bar. They have outside seating, but it is on the sidewalk which makes it hard for people on the street to walk by. I ordered a burger and it was a little too overcooked. Which can really ruin a good burger sometimes. I wouldn't not recommend it, but there are some places that are better. It is a good place to go to if you are near by and you do not want to travel far! read more

PROS -amazing beer selection -quirky and friendly wait staff -great food selection -prices are VERY reasonable - you can get a great burger for 4.95! -the location is very convenient, you can even sit outside -For parties they're perfect - try the sangria or beer punch -I just have to mention that they make their own pickles.. delicious! CONS I found a hair in my salad... twice I also found a fly in my soup.. NO JOKE. That's the only reason I have for 4 instead of five stars and I wish it weren't true! Baja Turkey Burger or Baja Beef Burger is the best thing on the menu! I love this place. Also - Southern Fried Chicken is good, and very filling - you will actually leave feeling stuffed. They always have an awesome selection of drinks, and the service is very, very good. It's a bit noisy, but creates a fun environment. Salads here are good, too. I had my birthday party here 2 years ago - 18 people, and the waitstaff was awesome. They even let me drop off gifts for everyone who attended, and they later brought me the bag so I could hand the gifts out to my friends. Top-notch. Thanks, Cambridge Common! Fun atmosphere, inexpensive food, extensive rotating beer list. Cambridge Common is one of the only restaurants in Boston where you can get a decent burger for $5. Their menu doesn't stop there- they have excellent pub fair- fish and chips, etc. They have 20+ beers on tap at any given time and they always have dinner and drink specials. They have TVs so you can watch the game, but it's not totally sports-bar-y. They also have picnic tables outside on Mass Ave for outdoor seating. The Lizard Lounge is right next door/ downstairs, where you can go and listen to a band. Cambridge Common is a place I aspire to be a regular at. read more

The beers are good, the mixed drinks are better, and the food is (most of the time) pretty good. The only major problem with Cambridge Common is the service. Every time I eat here I leave disappointed with the service. The staff is always polite, but never attentive. I can't remember the last time a waiter/waitress at Cambridge Common took the time to ask my table if we needed anything after the food was dropped off. If you run out of water, conserve your ice because it is going to be a long time before someone refills your glass. It might just be me, but I don't recall ever having decent service. Cambridge Common has great bartenders and an amazing beer selection. Compared to every other place in the area the beer is so cheap! Try to pay more than $7 for a beer there it's hard to do you need a big bottle or some exotic draft to cost that much. Food is another great value. Nothing is expensive and they have lots of rotating specials. I get the deviled eggs literally every time because they are only a few dollars and so good, but other standouts are the cheeseburger sliders, grilled cheddar and turkey sandwich and mac n cheese bites! read more

First off I would like to say that I got the yelp app just to write this review. After a bad night of bar hopping I ended up at cambridge commons, where I ordered a rum and coke. I believe they used a cup that had rum in it at one time and filled it with coke. Seriously I had to ask my friend to poor some beer into my "rum" and coke so there would be some alcohol in my drink. The food could be great...but I doubt that. If you are looking for a good bar go to go elsewhere. P.s. employees are nice but doesnt make up for shitty drink. read more

I lived near Cambridge Common for about a year and it was my go to spot. A couple of highlights: 1. Super friendly/helpful waiters- they've handled separate checks with large parties with ease, helped make sure I have a clear view of the TVs when the Pats were on... and just generally super helpful. 2. Great food and AWESOME beer selection- daily beer list. Need I say more? Also, plenty of options for all kinds of preferences. I always know someone will find something they like. 3. Affordable- really good value especially for what you get. The food is great but not overpriced especially for similar spots in the area. I live and work very near Cambridge Common and always want to like it. The food is always so so but it does in a pinch. However, every summer I love sitting on their patio. That is until this summer where they changed their out-door policy to not allow dogs. My dog is small, quiet and well behaved. I understand that perhaps there was reasoning behind the change in policy but why not ask certain customers to leave rather than change a blanket policy. Fortunately, there are many restaurants in the area that allow dogs that will be getting my business (Hi-Rise, The Abby, West Side Lounge, Temple Bar). I got the chili, cheeseburger sliders, and a bloody mary. The drink was decent, albeit the spiciest bloody mary I ever had. The chili was pretty good, with just the right spice and a good meat/bean ratio. The cheeseburger sliders were a disaster. Tough and flavorless patties between some sort of sourdough or french bread buns that were far too hard for use as burger buns. The bun/meat ratio was absurd. Enjoyed our dinner tonight. Soup of day was hearty and tasty. Our hamburgers were very good . Only problem I had was CHARGED FOR REFILLS OF ICE TEA. That has never happened anywhere ever. The waitress was exceptionally nice and helpful. The food was sub-par. The burgers were dry and tasteless, but the curly fries were great. The dessert (apple crisp) needs a lot of work. It was supposed to have a "crunchy" topping, but they used raw oatmeal which overpowered the taste of the apples...if you could make it to the bottom to get some. The atmosphere tolerable (I'm not a bar lover, but I didn't choose the venue). We went in with a gift certificate that was declined (we were unaware that the company went out of business), but after speaking to management and explaining our viewpoint (the gift certificate said it was valid for seven years and money was spent on it therefore it should be honored) they repeatedly informed us that they weren't going to honor it, but after agreeing to disagree they were kind enough to honor it anyway. Being new to the Cambridge/Somerville area, I was very pleased to begin checking out local restaurants. I have been to Cambridge Common five times in seven (7) weeks...and each time I go it is wonderful.... The first time I got the brunch special salmon ommlette .... with tater tots.... Wow... I was surprised by one of the best I ever had.... My girlfriend's brunch meal was also great (fries were almost as good as the tater tots). Second time we went for dinner, great soup and warm rum cider made us smile..... Third (and fourth) time I ordered the meatloaf.... it was FANTASTIC!!! Mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus were perfect!! Next up was the fish and chips...superb!!! .. and great tartar sauce...Got the meatloaf to go last week, and it was great even after traveling.... Lastly the salmon omlette again....great again!! Every meal was truly a delight.... great drinks, very warm and friendly staff, Cambridge Common is an unexpected culinary find..... don't be fooled, it is so much more than a pub or sports bar experience. read more

i'm a big fan of cambridge common. it's just such a chill place. i think i'm starting to become a regular there because since labor day weekend, i've been there six times. three of those times have been in the past week! i'm a fan of their cambridge great pumpkin ale. i swear it's the best around. a hint of pumpkin... some spice... all wrapped up in a nice crisp ale. but it's definitely a place to try out some new beers. i saw last sunday that they had the rogue hazelnut brown nectar on tap. OMG... was that ever a yummy drink! so GOOD... the food is pretty good there... i mean where else can you find tater tots on the menu. i'm very partial to the sweet potato fries though. the nachos and chicken sandwich are pretty good there as well. check it out if you're in the area. the parking isn't the best, but it's very chill and it's pretty non threatening... i feel like i could go there by myself on a saturday night. some bartenders are more attentive than others, but i feel like you'll find that anywhere. but if you're a beer fan, definitely check it out. read more

There is a time in every Bar/Restaurant establishment that it rest solely on accolades and its laurels and forgets why it used to get such raves about its offerings. Well, it that time has come to the Cambridge Common. We have lived in Cambridge for nearly 12 years and have been going to the CC off and on for most of this time with our kids and without. We have dealt with the "too cool for school" staff, the extended wait for a burger and fries and flat beer. Each time we leave we say never again, but we harken back to the days of old where you could rely on fresh grub, a great cold draft beer and service that actually makes sure your not dying of thirst before you must waive your hand to get a refill on your beer. Please keep in mind this is on a Tuesday night (6PM) where the place is nearly empty. It was nice watching the wait staff place glasses of ice at other tables as our cotton mouths prayed for the same. Alas, the place has jumped the shark, poor service ( a bar where you have to beg for a beer 10 minutes after you order it????), blah food, ("Oh I'm sorry, but the sweet potatoes fries were not cut right so your food will be delayed") with flat Harpoon IPA. Wow, has this place lost its way and forgotten the basics of a neighborhood bar/hangout. NEVER AGAIN. The owners should stop trying to look cool and start running the place like what it used to be........years ago. read more

I really like it here. Not just because it's a stones throw away (that helps) but because I have never had an experience with bad service here. It can be a little slow when they're busy... and they're always busy, but that's to be expected. Always friendly, always competent. The food is solid for the price and they have a pretty awesome beer selection, also reasonably priced. Cheaper than Bukowski's, classier than Charlie's. And that's why I like it. read more
