I went to this facility post hospital for rehab from knee surgery. I was there ever two hours and my admission was never completed; supervisor kept getting called away. While I was given a bed upon arrival, I had to wait over 45 minutes for water, no one ever answered my call button, I was taken to BR and left unassisted, and I did not get my medications when needed. After two hours, I opted to leave as I felt that I was not getting what I needed and did not feel safe. read more

Whatever you do do NOT send your family member here. They left my husband lying in his own feces for 24 hours after his ostomy bag leaked. They had no supplies!!! There were some excellent nurses and CNAs there, but not enough to offset the horrible experience he had. Sometimes they would not change his ostomy bag for several hours after he requested help. read more

My family and I are so upset at this place my father is in the facility working to move him. He has missed 2 days of Dialysis and he is in the worst condition ever. Unbelievable! Very angry and I might consult an attorney my Mother has been there 2 days! My sister went to see her after work today n found her laying on the cold floor using a trash can as a pillow. She is in need of 24 hour round the clock care she has a serious condition n this is how she is treated. After 45 seconds to indicate the 4 sentence introduction of my experience, I worked in the State Health Department as a Microbiologist/Epidemiologist Specialist and found his patient interactions below abysmal. Pray you never have to be treated by this doctor. I would have to search for 31 seconds to find a quality of patient interaction above his pure conceit expressed. I have worked with and needed the healthcare outcomes of hundreds of physicians. He will chill you to the bone for any patient compassion. I would prefer to report his quality of care to the Arizona Medical Board. What is his name, Girabaldi, oh wait a moment I would need to find his name. 30 seconds is up. I know there are bad reviews of this facility, but my father received good care there and was overall happy with the experience. He was a patient there for about 3 weeks and his nurse Jessina was great. I visited him often and always found his room and the facility in general to be clean and well maintained. It is an older facility and there are more luxurious places to be sure, however this facility has good caring employees who helped my father. In late 2023, my 90 year old aunt spent 5 1/2 weeks at this facility. We were very happy with the treatment and therapy she received and definitely recommend them! She spent six long days at this place---one half hour session of physical therapy (was supposed to get PT daily); one sponge bath in 6 days; food was awful; nursing care was close to non-existent; building as run down and poorly maintained. It saddens me to write about the treatment my father was exposed to at this facility. If you want more details message me offline. While he was there, he contracted double pneumonia, fell out of bed and no one could find him, the staff did not follow the orders of the surgeon to remove and clean his wounds and send x-ray. None of that was done. He was incredibly dehydrated and came home FILTHY. His teeth were not brushed for 3 weeks. His clothes were filthy and were not even his own. They forgot to remove an IV port from his arm when they dropped him at his home. THere solution for using the 2 tanks of O2 left with him was to use them at the lowest setting. His levels were at a 52 when he arrived home, We called Hospice. He dies 3 weeks later. I am not sure what the 1 star rating even means but my father deserved better than this. Anyone does read more

Absolutely love the staff and location at Camelback Post Acute Center. My mom has been the for past 6 months and with the help the the amazing staff, my mom is miraculously better then ever. From the front desk, to the nurses, to the therapists and doctors, everyone's communication has been great. I am most impressed with their attention to follow through and you get a sense that they genuinely care for my mom. There are several activities for my mom to participate in from exercise, spiritual, education, nutrition and even salon services. When my mom was discharged from the hospital there were not openings in the Skilled Nursing Facilities that have a good reputation. Mom was transferred on a Friday, so never had any PT for the first 3 days. They said she kept refusing, but she denies it. But even if she was refusing, they should have encouraged her rather than let her lay in the bed for 3 weeks. Because of Covid patients can not leave their tiny rooms, but seems like they could at least have a chair to sit up in. I do give a disclaimer that my mom is not an easy patient, but im a nurse and have never neglected a patient because they were difficult. Mom said many of the staff acted like she was a bother. She was not supposed to get out of bed, but they took forever to answer thr call light when she needed to use the bathroom. There are no showers so the only bath she got in 3 weeks was at the bathroom sink. She said she had the same gown on for 10 days. This is a sad way to treat people. read more

Please, if you care about your well being or that of a loved one, DO NOT consider Camelback Post Acute Care & Rehab when seeking a skilled nursing facility (SNF). The worst mistake I ever made was sending my 83 year old husband to this facility. My husband had been hospital confined for quite a while and had lost the strength and ability to sit up by himself or to walk alone. Therefore, one of the reasons I chose this place was because it said it offered "post acute care and rehabilitation." However, the name is very misleading. They do not appear to provide post acute care and provide precious little in the way of rehabilitation. The first night my husband was transferred to the SNF, after having been flat on his back at the hospital for several days, he was left in a wheel chair beside his bed from five o'clock in the evening to 9:30 that night, only able to see the bed but unable to get into it by himself. When he was finally put to bed it was without a single bite of food or water, although he had not had anything to eat or drink since early that morning. This facility puts two patients into a room that is about the size of a large broom closet, and one of those spaces has no view to the outside because a floor to ceiling drape blocks it off (my husband's section). The food was atrocious, to the point that we were bringing cooked food from home or having it delivered in order to feed my husband. He lost almost 15 pounds in the 16 days he was at the facility. His underpants were also not changed regularly. Although he asked to have them changed, he was left in urine soaked underwear for hours at a time. This facility also kept the rooms so cold that my husband had to wear three shirts and a long sleeved flannel sweater most of the time he was confined. There was one instance when I visited him that he was literally so cold that he did not even want to get out of bed. I asked for extra blankets for him and at that point, addressed several concerns to the social worker, Suzanne Greenwell. However, it did little good to complain of the treatment he was receiving because, while the social worker would tell me she would take care of matters, they were never remedied. The TV in my husband's "berth" also did not work and was never repaired during his entire 16-day stay although he asked them several times to have it fixed. Visiting hours at this facility are from 9 am to 4 pm, Monday through Friday, only one visitor at a time for 30 minutes each, and you must make an appointment in advance. Although they say they have visiting hours on the weekends, they apparently don't want any visitors there on the weekends because the receptionist told us up front that "weekend appointments were booked solid for three weeks." However, we drove by there on Saturdays and Sundays and there were almost never any cars in the parking lot so we wondered where all those "booked solid" visitors went to. This place only offers rehabilitation for one hour per day for only five days out of seven. Most of the the staff (with the exception of "Mark," who was quite good and for whom we have great appreciation) is either not trained or just doesn't care about the patients. For example, there were several instances when one of the therapy staff took my husband to the workout room for therapy and then left him by himself to go do something else and never come back. There was also an instance when a member of the staff took my husband to the shower room, had him take off his clothes in preparation for the shower, and then left him and never came back. In addition, the grab bar in the shower is barely attached to the wall. Keep in mind that this is a patient who couldn't walk by himself, so definitely should not have been left undressed to take a shower alone. Of concern also is that it is almost impossible to get anyone at this facility to call you back to give you updates on a patient's care. For instance, after leaving multiple messages over multiple days asking for call backs from the social worker, Suzanne Greenwell, the therapist, and the SNF doctor (whose name coincidentally is Dr. Mal (short for mal-practice?) I finally got a call back from Tony Sandoval, the Nursing Director; and Cynthia Alvarez, whom I believe was Dr. Mal's physician's assistant. Mr. Sandoval apologized for the less than stellar care my husband had received. However, Ms. Alvarez said she'd spoken with the doctor and the therapists and that the SNF's recommendation was to keep my husband for an additional 5 days, However, two of those days would have been a weekend in which no therapy was offered. The five additionally recommended days would also coincidentally just max out my husband's 21-day Medicare SNF benefit. My husband flat out refused to stay any longer; and after the treatment I had observed him receiving I agreed with him. Therefore, we got him released five days early, which was one of the best decisions I ever made. read more

I was taken to 1 Dr. appointment & a very nice man went with me. They did not fax over any paperwork. Actually the person who sets up the appointments is also supposed to send your chart. ******DO NOT!! I REPEAT DO NOT!! HAVE YOUR LOVED ONES PLACED IN THIS FACILITY!****** My little brother was placed here and it is atrocious! We arrived to check on my little brother and due to the laziness of their CNA staff they have made things even worse. Bed sores and mishandling of patients. THEN if you complain about them the CNAs retaliate and it gets even worse. I had to speak with the charge nurses and the MDS Coordinator on two occasions which led to two CNAs getting written up. I was asked not to contact the state board so they can handle it internally. Apparently the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. The food is horrible and does not fit with any type of dietary needs. I'm not sure where they get their food but it's brown and it looks old. The one day I checked to see what my brother was given for lunch and it was boiled hot dog on a cold bun topped with some kind of canned chili and processed velveeta cheese. I wouldn't feed that to my dog. The day after we left the CNAs spread the word about my little brother and now they all have an attitude. He's a quadraplegic and they didn't hand him his nurse's button after they turned him then repeatedly walked passed his room ignoring his shouts that he needs assistance. I cannot stress enough about not sending your loved ones to this facility. Once my brother has left this facility I will then proceed to address my concerns with the state board. There are some CNAs who are really good however the bad apples are the ones that give this supposedly five star facility a very bad reputation. read more

A horror show. Rude and uncaring nurses and staff. If you ring for help it can takee 30 to 60 minutes before anyone comes. Ask for your prescription medication that sayd take every 6 hours and you wait 2 to 5 hours before they show up. If you need medical equipment they take a month or more to order it. You hear people screaming for help and they don't get any. I heard the nurses talk in the hallway saying. "Keep screaming. The more you scream the longer you wait". Forget about the food. Worse than Swanson TV dinners and the portions are hardly enough to sustain life. Share a room with someone who screams all night long and if you ask to be moved they refuse. The worst facility in the entire valley. I've been in 5 but I'd rather take my chances without help then come here again read more

Ok so I found these reviews after my family member had been sent here, I read the reviews on the way to visit. Contrary to what others posted the inside of the building did not stink. It smelled like deodorizers and sanitizers but not like an un-flushed toilet like some places I have been in. That being said the reports of the food being crap is correct. When my family member (who has almost no taste in food) complains then it has to be bad. None of the food I saw looked appetizing. Most of it looked like it had been over cooked and then left in a warming oven for way too long. The place was clean and the staff were rushed but they did answer questions and were as helpful as someone could be under the working conditions there. I will state right now that I could not do the jobs that these people have and my hat goes off to them. Visitation was never a problem, and some people seemed to stay with their family members there all day. The biggest complaint I have is that they sent my family member home with no warning (alone). read more

PLEASE READ THIS REVIEW AND DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONE TO THIS FACILITY My brother was in this facility for a week. During this time I had to call and complain 7 times, 2x in one day. He was sent here to learn to take care of himself. The 2nd night there the nurse picked up a bandage that had fallen off wound off the floor and put it back on the wound. He has a colostomy bag that was leaking into his wound and disconnected his call button and was left like that for over 8 hours. On another day in am he needed to urinate and was ignored for an hour which he ended up urinating on himself and bedding. They would not help clean him up just removed his clothes left him naked and made the bed with urinated bedding. Also took his soiled clothes to wash and lost them. This facility only cleans the rooms every other day. They do not provide anything to drink except water if you want something to drink other you must buy it. The nurses and cnas and medical assistants do not know how to read doctors orders or follow them. My brother is back in the hospital with pneumonia and his wound infected with possible MRSA. Pretty disgusting. The people who worked there were nice enough, but it's not run correctly and the building itself is nasty. It's dirty and there are roaches, bugs crawling on the walls. The staff also does not do nearly enough for the people staying there. The family member that stayed there came straight from the hospital and needed a lot of help because she could barely move and was in a lot of pain, but the staff were not around enough and didn't help when she needed it. The rooms are tiny, and most of them are not even equipped to handle people who might be disabled or handicapped. They hadn't even mentioned anything about breakfast when my family member finally decided she was getting out of there the morning after her one night stay. This place is a god damn joke. Staff cannot handle number of patients - I was supposed to buzz for every walk to bathroom. I did so but after waits of more than 15 minutes for anyone to appear (many times) I simply started walking myself. Of course I was yelled at by my supposed doctor during our weekly 3 minute meeting. The place is a TOTAL RIP OFF to the public -- I receive help walking for less than 30 minutes on weekdays only - the real joke is that during the other 23.5 hours they are collecting money from the government for my meds, food, bathers. They don't want me to succeed otherwise they will lose the tons of money they have been receiving since I've been here. I've also been receiving bullshit promises of visits with explanations with supervisor, exerciser, and trainers. read more

It is almost 12 months that I have been here at Camelback and I could not be more pleased with my stay. When I arrived initially I was nervous because I had never stayed at any other facilities prior. We chose the location because it was fairly close to my family. Camelback has quickly become my home I love all of the personal attention I get from the nursing staff, they are always willing to help with whatever I might need. I highly enjoy my walks with the therapy department to strengthen my legs. And and truly enjoy the various outings events the activities department plans. My mother was moved to this facility a little over a week ago. At the time she was not able to walk from her bed to the bathroom. She could barely lift a fork she was so weak. My family and I were very worried about her condition. The staff at Camelback Post-Acute Care and Rehab has been amazing. From the very start they assured us not to worry and they would take care of everything. They have done just that. The Physical therapist have been encouraging, challenging, caring and loving. They know what they are doing and do it well. The doctor she has been seeing has been very involved in her care and progress. He has great bedside manner and has not left any stone unturned with her. The staff has been friendly and welcoming to my family when we visit. I don't have a single regret about bringing my mom to Camelback. Today she can walk the entire facility. She looks forward to the therapy sessions and feels 200% better than she has in a very long time. The only draw back is the food is not all that great. read more

I am posting a copy of a letter I just wrote to the facility's executive director I recently received a bill for my copay for my stay at Camelback Post Acute Care and Rehab. If payment were based on quality of care received, I wouldn't be paying anything at all in my opinion. I had knee replacement surgery at Oasis Hospital for my right knee on March 30. I was sent to your facility to give me a few extra days to recover before traveling my car to my home here in Las Cruces NM. I was there April 1 through 4th , 2016. Let me just walk you through my experience. I arrived mid-afternoon on the April 1. I was assigned to a shared room. My roommate arrived a few hours later. There was someone from a medical supply company who delivered and set up a continuous passive motion machine for my knee. I had been told that I should have someone with me when I used the bathroom. I had a walker and an ice machine with me also. I was able by using the call button and considerable patience to get someone to help me into the bathroom. I decided that after that I had a choice between a wet bed and taking myself to the bathroom. Which is what I did for the remainder of the time. Someone from your physical therapy department talked to me and told me that there wouldn't be anyone on duty until Monday. I was left to my own devices. I had to show staff people how to use the icing machine. The only help I occasionally got was in getting someone to put the continuous passive motion machine under my bed at night so I could sleep. So let's look at sleeping. It's very necessary to recovery. A shared room doesn't necessarily mean that a person can't get a good night's sleep. Unless, one is in a room with a person who has had brain injuries and has an alarm on her bed so she doesn't get up and wander at night. And unless that alarm is set so sensitively that it goes off when she turns over at night. Then when the other person in the room can't sleep because of the blaring alarm, the attendant finally comes in and quiets things down. Then the attendant goes out leaving the door open so that the bright hall light shines on the eyes of the other person, making it impossible for her to sleep. Of course that other person was me. After asking and reminding, and asking over and over that the door be shut when the attendant left the room - I finally got up, screamed into the hallway, "Shut the damned door!" and slammed the door as hard as I could. Remember this was just two and three days' post knee replacement surgery at a "Post acute care and rehab" facility. Finally, after my having to create a scene, the rest of my stay, the door was shut after someone entered, then left the room. That night that I broke down and screamed, then I had to go comfort my roommate and assure her that she had done nothing wrong. What a horror. This is not my typical behavior. Now let's talk about the food. Is it really your policy to encourage people to eat in the dining room by feeding them less food on a tray in their room? Is it really okay to serve juice for breakfast that has been cut with water (I assume) so that the orange juice or cranberry juice flavor is barely detectable. One breakfast I was served white cereal, and toast, plus the horrible and unappealing watered down juice. Another evening meal was a white flour tortilla with a bit of turkey and a sprinkling of salad greens. The menu posted sounded good. The food served was tasteless and of minimal quality. I know nutritious food when I see it and what you were serving while I was there was not nutritious. My husband started bringing me meals, so I could eat properly. I really object to the idea that a person who wishes to stay in their room will not be fed as much as someone who comes to the dining room. Finally, Monday April 4 came around and I was able to demonstrate to your physical therapy person that I was ready to go home. ESCAPE!! Thank God. Your physical therapy set up and the PT people with whom I interacted were excellent. That is the one good thing about your facility. And of course since I was there over the weekend there were no resources available to me, except walking the halls, which I did, determined to get out of there as soon as possible. I would never recommend your facility to anyone and have told my dissatisfaction to anyone available. read more

I was a patient at this facility from 10/13/15 to 11/4/15. I had very few complaints. Overall when you are there it is like most hospitals-care facilities-etc. I found the Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy staff to be excellent, with their program for me a post open heart patient. They made sure I understood my restrictions and how to take care of myself without involving my limitations. The Nursing staff were very good and caring, if you be patient with your requests. Maintenance staff were great, they tried hard to do their repairs (Bed controls had a problem) without causing me or my roommate too much inconvenience. I also found the regular staff very encouraging. The food at first wasn't to my liking, but that changed with a staff change. I may not have liked all meals but overall they were good. I must admit that I didn't see adjustment to my medical needs but that was mostly because I ordered my own menu. The main problem I encountered was with another patient, but found the staff helpful. Overall my experience was very good, they were caring and encouraging and helpful. I did not require a lot extra care (like being bedridden) and even though it wasn't home, I felt I received good care. read more
