Sergio the "counselor" I don't even know when we to begin. The counselor was rude, unaware and clearly UNTRAINED. This seem to be a common theme to EACH employee. The only decent people here were the front desk guys. They are not here to help anyone who is genuinely looking for recovery. There are so many wonderful things that I can say about this company. They are so nice from the time they answer the phone. They have made what seems the impossible, a realistic goal to strive for to achieve. I am helping a friend of mine who was in need of their services. They were able to set up an online evaluation within days of my call, not like the others who said they were booked for weeks. To be able to have the evaluation completed online was a God send. It makes it so much more do-able for people that don't have their license and don't drive to be able to meet and complete the requirement set by MVD. Even after the screening when I had questions about the next step for my friend, Nathan was so knowledgeable and cut out all the confusion. He even made a recommendation of a provider who can help... I know someone else who will benefit from a Stonewall Institute and will be sending him over next as well as let him know it's not as frightening as one might think...just get it done!!!! I am so grateful to the entire staff at Stonewall Institute! It took a lot of courage to make that first phone call to them and when I showed up for an initial evaluation I didn't know what to expect. What I found was a totally nonjudgmental environment where I felt comfortable being open and honest. I completed Stonewall's IOP program and also did one on one counseling. This has become the foundation of my recovery program on which now I will continue to build. I met some great people and made a lot of new friends to build my sober support network. You can't make DUI screening completely painless, but they did a pretty decent job. 16 hours of my life was swirled down the drain because of my own stupid mistake, but at least they instilled some kind of fear that'll never make me want to risk my life again. However, I'm fairly certain one dude in there was a plant. He said he had 7 DUIs in his lifetime, including one accident that ripped his throat out. He didn't have any scars and he didn't talk funny and he didn't seem like half the stuff he was saying was true. Yeah, I'm sure he made a billion dollars in some chicago gambling scene and woke up on the beaches of Mexico with no recollection of how he got there. I'm sure. Run far far far away from this place...behind their slick website this treatment facility is a disorganized mess (I know that's an oxymoron). I completed their alcohol screening in October 2020 and they still have not submitted my paperwork to the AZ MVD. I was told it was misplaced. I had to do it all over and they wanted to charge me again. After haggling back and forth they admitted their mistake and didn't charge me. But it's February 2021 and things are still not straightened out. It's been a miserable experience. They only thing they care about is getting their hands on your money. This is the first review I've ever written but I want to warn other people. Do your research. There are plenty of other AZ approved DUI facilities out there. I completed a alcohol screening in April of 2017 as of today December 2017 my screening has not been submitted to the MVD. I am told my violation date does not match, I have verified the date with the MVD and ensured Stonewall has the correct/matching date. Still nothing. I do not understand how this is my problem. In 2007 I made two stupid mistakes during a personal issue that caused me to receive two DUI's. Totally deserved, I chose the wrong answer to dealing with a divorce. Since then, I haven't been behind a wheel a single time due to no license and hadn't pursued a license due to finances. I went to Stonewall Institute for a DUI Revocation Assessment in November. I met with Kyle, who sat with me for about a half hour and asked some questions off a sheet regarding past drug and alcohol use. He let me know we were finished and told me the DMV would mail out his decision. From him first calling me back to me walking out the front door, he had zero personality. I'm sure he does this all day long and it would get old, but I just paid $200. A smile or anything would help. I received a denial due to "the evaluator has determined you have a condition that impairs your ability to drive". $200 down the drain. I couldn't believe it, as I don't have any addiction history with drugs or alcohol. I spent a week upset and convinced myself my license was hopeless. Family urged me to try again with a different therapist, so I submitted my packet to the courts again. After receiving the packet back I found John Carter on google. I saw his ad the first time and saw all the "$100 evaluations!" on google and figured I'd go to what I thought was the "industry leader" Stonewall, and paid the extra money thinking things would be faster. Boy was I wrong. I went and saw Mr. Carter and answered the same questions the same way and Mr. Carter saw no reason why I would be denied. He sent off my packet and I left excited. While I was with Mr. Carter, he educated me on the history and process I was going through, his history, and answered any questions I had. The experience was night and day to the service I received at Stonewall, where Kyle read questions off a piece of paper and sent me on my way. Another month later, I received another denial! My heart sunk. The denial reason "You failed to disclose to your new evaluator your opiod prescription." WHAT? I had a prescription for 8 Vicodin tablets over 15 years ago after a root canal. After taking one, I didn't like the way it made my stomach feel and didn't take the rest, just used ibuprofen. I disclosed this to both Kyle and John. I figured there must be a mistake, so I requested a hearing with the executive hearing office. Fast forward a month and a half, I received a letter back with the date of my hearing. Fast forward another month, its my hearing date over the phone. The judge questions me about my opiod prescription, I tell him the same thing about taking a single Vicodin my entire life and he asks me why Kyle would put that I had a taken opiods within the last 3 years. WHAT?! I explained that it wasn't true and it was possible that Kyle mistook my answer when I said "I even got a root canal about 3 years ago and declined Vicodin because I didn't like it." The judge said he would send out the answer within the next few days. About 5 days later, i received a letter overturning the denial and a day after that I was legally behind the wheel for the first time in almost 8 years. This was June 5th. Deciding to go to Stonewall Institute caused me a 7 month delay, $200 to them, $30 for priority mailing of my packets/letters back and forth, and many nights of confusion and discouragement/sadness. If you are looking to get an evaluation done, I recommend you don't go to a place that also sells the counseling services that would "cure" you if they deny you. Go to someone that offers just evaluations and has no monetary incentive to deny you. Don't get Stonewalled. read more

I truly wish that I could give them MINUS stars.. all they care about is filling up their pockets and prolonging the agony of court ordered madness. I should have known it was a sham when I got a voicemail saying that they will beat any competitors by 10%... then on top of that.. I paid for both the assessment and 16 hours before I received any services just so that they could lock me into a price and then insult me to say that they recommend that I take additional hours due to "criteria" ! Poopy criteria that looks out for the benefit of nobody else but themselves.... remember when your mom would always tell you to keep your hands off the hot stove, but you never really learned your lesson until you actually put your hand on the stove and burned the hell out of it, than ran screaming and crying to your mom and she gave you that "told-you-so" lecture? well, same goes for DUIs. it wasn't until i was put through the actual experience that i can fully say i learned my lesson. DUI screenings are required for DUI offenders and i chose the stonewall institute to get my screening done and attend the required DUI education classes. courtney penniman, the founder of stonewall, didn't give me that embarassing "told-you-so" speech like my mom did so many times. she was open, kind, patient, informative, understanding, and really gave me the push in the right direction that i needed. i don't think i could have gotten anywhere NEAR the same experience at some court-appointed screening site. the prices are reasonable and in the end it was actually cheaper to go to her than to TASC, and more professional and friendly as well. courtney also does psychiatric care for depression, anxiety,. trauama, serious mental health counseling, as well as general mental health counseling for individuals and couples. on top of the drug and alcohol addiction therapy and DUI services provided to me. the first of its kind in arizona, Stonewall Institute offers specific programming designed to address the mental health and chemical dependency issues that are unique to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning (LGBTQ) population, so if you're family, you know you're in good hands with courtney. read more

I was told that they offered one on one talk therapy with a license talk therapist but instead I was told I had to do a 10 week 3 day a week IOP class in order 2 even receive any one on one talk therapy sessions so all I got out of going to my appointment was a free t-shirt that's what the one stars for so just make sure you are going there for the right reasons or that they offer what you're looking for before you go read more

I submitted the information needed to complete my revocation packet for my driver's license June 7. Today is 17 days later and it still has not been submitted yet. I need my driver's license to work and each day they delay sending it out costs me money. What a waste of money this place was. I went into this dreading the fact that I HAD to do these classes, but now that I am almost done with my hours, I have learned so much and Jeff always keeps class really interesting!! My lawyer had referred me to Stonewall and I am thankful he did. I hear stories all the time from friends about how their classes (at different facilities) sucked and were boring. I have and will absolutely refer people to this facility. In the beginning I was so lost because it was my first DUI. If I had ANY questions, even if it did not have to do with the classes, Jeff was always willing to guide me through what to do and what I can expect. I work in the medical field and some of these classes helped educate me and become more open minded with current/future patients I may have who may have had or currently have addictions. I did not want to have to do these classes at all, but I am glad I attended Stonewall. Staff is very friendly and I actually look forward to going to classes. Jeff and other students are all open minded and are willing to listen try their best to help with any problems you may have. I have been to this place and horrible service! First thing out of the Ladies mouth was that I had filled out my birthday incorrect. Told her no, I'm am that old.. she then said oh well I guess you have good genes... Told her my ordeal and I was denied for being high risk for driving under the influence even though my dui is over 7 years old was reading through the notes I got back from MVD she put that I had told her I drank the night before. .. not true called to see if they have a recording of meeting and of course not so upset!! read more

I completed the 10 week IOP program at Stonewall this year and I have to say it was a life-changing experience. Like many, upon entering the program, I wasn't sure how things could go...but the expertise the therapists possessed along with the common ground I found with others in the program quickly became something I knew would make a difference for me. In the course of the 10 weeks I learned so much in terms of the nature of my dependency, the effects it has on me and others in my life, and how to functionally deal with things on a daily basis. Probably the most important part of the whole program was the tools they gave me to deal with addiction after I left. Today, I am addiction-free and feel completely confident and free from a life that was heading the wrong way. Stonewall helped me to get where I am today! read more

For revocation packet lie about drinking at all, disregard all information from the classes. They will deny you if you say you had even one beer at your house. They had no answer for me when I asked why is the class information different from the evaluation? Like studing for a test and the study material is wrong! "The classes are geared towards first offense and to pass here you need 1 year sober. We can not tell any one this because then they will know what to say." SO EVERYONE THAT NEEDS REVOCATION PACKET YOU HAVE NOT DRANK IN ONE YEAR. read more

The thought of spending all weekend at a DUI Education class did not appeal to me in the least. But rules are rules, so I decided to book my class at Stonewall Institute. What a great decision that was!! This was, hands down, the most informative sixteen hours I've ever spent in a classroom. They simply want your money. They are priced way out of the market for most court-ordered services. If you plan to use them, SHOP AROUND ONLINE FIRST!! They will price match their "competition" and from my research, their offered prices are about double most other places. I would personally avoid this company at all costs. I had them complete a revocation packet along with court-ordered DUI classes. They initially tried to charge me $1200 for the classes and $200 for the revocation packet. They immediately came down to $600 for classes when I complained about the price and $100 for the revocation packet. The "classes" consisted of TV episodes (Intervention, 30 for 30, etc) and I suspect they are using illegally. I just received notification my revocation packet was DENIED because of their recommendation for me to complete MORE OF THEIR "CLASSES." I went to see another Counselor for evaluation and he mentioned this is typical for them and that they are just in it for the money. He only charged me $100 also. AVOID THIS PLACE. read more

I do not remember my evaluators name but she ridiculously unprofessional, didn't have anything ready by my appointment time. Eval was cheap but worthless as she diagnosed me as a potential substance abuse problem due to my marijuana dui almost 7 years ago. Recommended me for treatment at a facility they work with so they get a kickback for me if I go. After a nightmare of an assessment my paperwork didn't get sent until the 19th when my evaluation took place on the 9th.....at which time I received word back from the motor vehicle department that I was denied due to the counselors statements of substance abuse and dependency affected my ability to operate a motor vehicle due to the fact that I'm a medical patient. They are straight scammers and I would not recommend wasting your money or your life going over there and dealing with these people. read more

Most people have an experience with addiction/alcoholism, whether it's a family member or yourself. last month I scheduled a revocation screening for august 12, 2019. upon my arrival I paid a $75.00 fee at the front office. thereinafter, I met the counselor name " Mike Dugall" who was assigned to do the revocation screening. prior to the screening, I informed mike exactly what type of screening I was there for. he then stated to me, " we don't do revocation screenings here, I may need to refer you to another place. so he walked out of his office for a moment, to consult with one of the staff members. he returned to his office, and proceeded with the screening. after the screening was completed he forwarded a signed and dated document of the screening/evaluation to the dmv to start the process of reinstating my driver's license. I was informed by the dmv it could take up to 45 days or less to receive a decision of approval/and or denial of reinstating my d.l. however, 42 days later, I reached out to dmv to check the status of the reinstatement process of my d.l.? only to find out, because the dmv has not received the revocation application form signed and attached to the screening form and dated by licensed counselor. therefore, nothing has moved forward in the reinstatement process. when I learned of this, I immediately contacted mike, to follow up regarding the revocation application? he then stated "we don't provide that service anymore. you were here for a screening and that's the service I provided". I then refreshed his recollection regarding the "specific screening" I verbally told him in person, what exactly, I was there to receive on Aug.12, 2019. he then stated " your lying" . I then replied stating " you are failing to be honest with yourself". I kindly, informed mike, I am providing you the opportunity to make a valid effort to rectify and accommodate the major inconvenience this has caused me. he then sarcastically replied " I can give you the cow, but I can't give you the farm". it should also be noted, mike is the "operations manager" for this stonewall location or co. so to speak. therefore, I'm left with no choice but to payout a $120 plus dollars for a revocation application screening, whereas the screening is incorporated in the revocation application process. so mike Dugall basically, took my $75.00 knowing dam well the service he provided did absolutely nothing for me to forward the process of re establishing the reinstatement of my driver's license. whoever, is reviewing this, STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS AGENCY! they mislead you and take your money. extremely unprofessional, thus failing to really help people get across the bridge of their circumstances. but to only provide false misleading services. read more

From an employer of a "patient". I have only one comment -- I believe the service for a DUI license revocation was worse than poor. My employee waited well over a month for a response, then had to call MVD to find out that he had "failed". Don't expect a call from anyone. You'll wait forever, and then may be forced to call MVD several times to find that you have failed, and thus be forced to sign up for more therapy or pick another option. Is this a scam/sham? I don't know. But, clearly this is about money, and not the well-being or livelihood of their patients. There must be another alternative that is better. JMHO. read more

The Stonewall Institute helped me turn my life around. I'm proof that a person can come out from the depths of hell, & do a complete 180 -- I'm now living a happy, healthy, productive life. But I couldn't have done it alone. Addiction is a disease, & a sick person cannot make themselves well without medicine, (not pills, but recovery). I can't explain the logistics; it just works. In my case, it has been the best medicine for treating my addiction, & it's been more effective than basically everything else combined. Here, you will learn how to live a healthy, sober life & be happy @ the same time. Along with that, you'll receive information regarding the importance of AA meetings, sponsor work, (ideally on a daily basis), & how to live right, while also becoming part of a supportive & healthy community -- who understand what an addict/alcoholic is going through. You'll meet people who speak the same language you do. Recovery is a personal issue, & it's imperative to immerse yourself in a program that is right for you. This is the place that worked for me. If you haven't found the right program, please do not give up! Life is a choice, & for an addict/alcoholic the choice is either recovery -or- misery! read more

Working with the Stonewall Institute has been an absolute pleasure. The staff was top-notch and memorable. I'll begin by admitting that I must have been the most needy and arrogant patron in their program. I think that I was still on the defensive after obtaining a DUI and used terms in my intake interview like "customer" with a sarcastic undertone and I even called their program Court-Ordered-Extortion. I was treated with respect and dignity despite my reluctance. I completed the Stonewall Institutes 36 hour online treatment, which was convenient and engaging. You would think that 36 hours of substance abuse treatment would bore you into a stupor, but the online program provided by the Stonewall institute was both entertaining and informative. I received excellent "customer" support, throughout the entire course. Great Job team, some special commendations to staff Jeff, Liz, Kyle and Austin. Jeff began my experience at the Stonewall institute with a friendly welcome to the program, Liz I spoke to the most with all of my technical support and documentation issues. Kyle, who owns the Stonewall Institute, actually called me personally and saw one of my questions through satisfaction. Austin provided customer support as well. Great Job guys, I'm happy to call myself a true satisfied CUSTOMER of the Stonewall Institute.
