I wish I could give negative stars!!!! This place is awful! One it smells like urine the second you walk in. The place is so dirty. My father was a patient there and had to leave via ambulance after ONE week. The lack of care was disgusting. When he got to the ER the night he left this facility his PICC line bandage wasn't changed they just put surgical tape on top, and his clamps to his PICC lines were left open. The most critical thing on his body!!! One of his nurses Janet was so awful just rude didn't care about anything, didn't give my father his insulin for 4 hrs after his blood sugar read 390. And she said oh sorry I forgot. One of my father's other nurses couldn't tell the difference between a ostomy stoma and a belly button. Can't make this stuff up!! Please DO NOT SEND YOUR FAMILY HERE! The only positive thing to say about this place was the PT team seemed to care and the wound nurse Emma was amazing

He was frequently called the cutest old man and told he had a great smile from multiple staff. There were wait times for certain treatments, but the staff was busy. The treatment was great, but what impressed me more was how my mom was treated. The job of the staff is to take care of my dad. But they were so incredibly caring towards my mom and family. Big shout out to Alexia. She comforted my mom all the time with words and hugs. When he passed, so many staff went out their way to hug my mom. Not generic "sorry for loss," but with love and tears in their eyes too. They took a horrible time for our family, made it just a little bit easier knowing we could trust them with my precious dad's care.

If I could give negative stars I would. I'm posting this review for my 70 year old mother who…read morearrived at this facility post-injury and after leaving Banner Thunderbird. I would not recommend this facility. The response time for the call button for anything my mom needed was between 10-25 minutes, IF anyone ever came to help. The facility left a wheelchair in her room and allowed my mom to use it to wheel herself, unassisted, into the bathroom when she needed assistance with a walker to get strength in her leg after a hip surgery. I requested it be removed so my mom would have to use the walker to strengthen her leg and the wheelchair was never got removed. My mother could have been seriously injured. She said she needed to do it herself because no one ever came after she would click the assistance button. This is unacceptable for a "rehabilitation facility" and I use that term loosely. My mother is diabetic and I told 3 different people this information, including the social services dept., her direct nurse and the liaison before we arrived. She was given sugary food the entire time and high carb meals. We had to beg for a shower for her when she arrived and the employee that cared at all to ever help my mom was Susie, an aide. The nurses never smiled and spent more time joking and laughing at the nurses station than they did assisting patients. On any given visit when I arrived, there would be several (more than 5 lights lit up) patients needing assistance. Additionally, they were NEVER quiet at the station, even late into the night. The overall morale from the good employees was obviously very bad due to work load. We were told by one of these good employees that showers for patients are put off until she arrives. Upon leaving, I had to ask several times to get help getting her to the car, when Susie (the best employee there) offered to help. She was awesome. The other staff - AWFUL. In fact, when I left, paperwork with HIPPA info was inadvertently included in my mom's discharge papers. Wow. Do NOT allow your loved ones to be left alone at this facility. One reviewer said an investigation needs to be done on this place and I AGREE 100%.

These were the services agreed to prior to moving in. After moving in, these prices changed. * Services not asked for were added without my parents' knowledge, leading the facility to charge more than $18,000 extra over the space of 4 months. This was only resolved through months of communication with the Brookdale management. To this day, the billing is not standardized, itemized, or consistent. * The food that is served is substandard. Think about high school cafeteria food. Some meals were not delivered, causing my father to have to order out. A large percentage of the breakfast meals were delivered without toast. Missing items per the order submitted is a regular occurrence. * The cleaning of the apartment is supposed to take place weekly. Sometimes weeks have gone by without a cleaner coming to the apartment. Cockroaches have been seen inside the apartment. * The care of my mother who is bedridden is supposed to be completed by 2 caregivers as per the contract. This has rarely been the case. This is my personal observation by my weekly visits on Sunday mornings. 90% of the time, there is only one caregiver, forcing my father who can barely stand to help. This puts both of my parents in jeopardy. As a side note, the caregivers that come to my parents' apartment are great with them, giving them the best care they can though in many instances are untrained and have had to be shown how to care for my mother by my sisters. By the words of the caregivers themselves, they are constantly shorthanded. Look elsewhere!

Besides medical services or care attention, I am offered non-solicited and genuine conversation and actually look me in the eyes when conversing. What? Yes....it's true! It's a nice feeling being respected and knowing that what I say actually still matters. I can go on and on and believe me, if I had the time and strength, I would...because these folks ( Gigi is my favorite if I had to pick one ) are over the top professional while forwarding comfort and compassion, offered and delivered with a warm hand. I have been around, folks....I have had relationships with other temporary residents in these sorts of facilities. What I am saying is that I wish someone took the time to write a non-biased and accurate review that I possibly could have read and my last 3 or 4 facilities would have never happened. Someone would have actually read it and told me as, to be honest, I do not have computer accessibility. I have another week or so here still and I had to ask a few times, how can I thank these people for all they have done for me and continue to do....a niece told me about YELP and she found it and let me type away on her computer gadget here. Anyway... we are all in this together and I feel good writing this in hopes this helps someone else. Time to go....dinner is served! ; ) Tim P. (Phoenix, AZ.)

Would not recommend placing your loved ones in this facility if you care about them. My family member was placed here for several days before it was discovered that the nurse call light didn't even work. There was trash and dead bugs in her room when she first arrived. An opioid pill was found on the floor in her room (one that she wasn't even prescribed, so not hers that could have dropped) and when we came in to visit one day there was a dirty diaper just tossed on a chair in the corner. And to top it all off, another patient had stopped my cousin to tell her to get our family member out as soon as we could when he overheard our concerns. Honestly, negative stars if possible. This place is the worst.

When I'm old and need assisted living, Sunrise Assisted Living of Scottsdale is where I want to…read morelive. Have you checked out assisted living places recently? They're absolutely nothing like the nursing homes of days gone by. These places are lovely. Long gone are those grim nursing homes hallways with that distinctive "nursing home" smell and patients moaning out for help from their room. A few years ago, my mother-in-law needed assisted living. My husband and I performed an expensive search of places in the greater Phoenix area. All of them were surprisingly expensive. To help offset some of those costs, people are often eligible for VA assistance or long-term nursing care insurance policies. With the majority assisted living places costing about the same, we focused on the quality of lifestyle that could be provided for our loved one. Sunrise of Scottsdale offers many activities, live entertainment singers + dancers, theme parties, games, field trips, etc. They even offer afternoon happy hours with beer and wine and a few nibbles too. In addition to social activities, a complete kitchen staff caters to the resident's individual dietary needs and food preferences. Importantly, a medical nursing staff is always on the premises, with a physician on call and nearby. Residents are charged a monthly fee according to the level of assistance they need. For example, if a resident can take their own meds, bath and dress independently, that would be cheaper than someone who requires a higher level of care. Should the time come that your loved one needs even more supervised attention, the top (third) floor is dedicated to those with Alzheimer's and other conditions that require extra monitoring. The doors are locked for patient safety so they can't wander off, but the residents are always treated with dignity and kindness. My dear mother-in-law has lived in the independent assisted living area for about four years. She says it's the most beautiful and best place she's lived in her entire life. She tells her old friends that that she's "living in a mansion." Her bedroom suite is private and perfectly sized for a single occupant. Her suite contains a mini-kitchen with a small sink, microwave, and refrigerator. She doesn't really need the kitchenette because she eats her meals in the dining room. However, come to think of it, she does use her suite's mini-refrigerator to stash her whiskey and fun-size chocolate candy bars. Bad habits? Well, yes, but she's 90 years old for heaven's sakes, I think it's okay to cut her some slack.
