And being able to stretch and take direction from the industries top session runners was so valuable. It is by far the best commercial class she has ever taken and she has been taking commercial classes in LA for over 10 years, including Foley/Mara, Hey I Saw Your Commercial (Mike Pointer), and others. This class is chock full of very useful information. They are learning on-point skills for auditioning and working in commercials. So nice to just have a class that is not full of all kinds of written materials about "types" and tons of promotion trying to get you to take more classes. I took Camera/Left Stage Rights Basics of Booking class from out of state over zoom (I live in NYC). I wanted a class to brush up and increase my confidence. Keli and Cyd who taught the first three weeks were wonderful and created a very welcoming and safe environment to play and to explore what each individual actor needed to work on. They both gave a lot of experience because they have worked a ton. The last week casting director Arlene holds a q & a session to answer any business questions. I took a combo of Specialty Auditions & Their Traps as well as Improv for Auditions: The Original and LET. ME. TELL. YOU. Kim, Irene, and Arlene know what they are talking about from all angles of the industry. Casting, Session Running, Acting/Improv, Booking, Set Life, etc. The classes are SO fun, SO insightful, SO helpful! You will learn lots, fast. And actually, apply what you learn directly in class as it applies real-time to current auditions you may be having outside of class. They each have their own style of teaching and I really enjoyed the no-bullshit, dry-cut, engaging style of Kim (she's hilarious btw) as well as the on-your-feet-out-of-your-head, supportive classes with Irene (improv lends itself to goofy vibes, no?) ASWELL as the nurturing and enlightening words and real-life advice from Arlene (a real CD). I have been away from the commercial world for many years, and wanted to brush up. I signed up for online 3-week course with Cyd Strittmatter and Keli Daniels at Camera Left/Stage Right and the class was beyond my expectations. First off, it was so much fun. Both of my girls were in his class; 5-8 years old and 9-12. The hour and a half with Scott was productive and not one second was wasted. Absolutely loved taking "Bite, Sip, Smile, and other Specialty Auditions" with Lori Medlin! She was engaging, encouraging and knew how to give constructive criticism in a way that was easy to understand and incorporate. While I have taken commercial classes previously, this is one of the very few where I wrapped up feeling prepared and empowered! On top of all this, the class was truly affordable (even during a pandemic!) and the opportunity to receive feedback from a working Casting Director a wonderful cherry on top. I took the virtual Bite, Sip, Smile class with Lori Medlin and it was great! I started getting more callbacks during the month that I was taking class. Lori is sweet and encouraging! She only gives CONSTRUCTIVE criticism and meets you where you are as an actor. Her tips and tricks definitely made for better auditions, buttons, and adjustments. My classmates were at different levels, but we all felt equal and equally capable of growing. Oh my gosh, and you can't beat that class price in LA! THANK YOU ALL FOR BEING COGNIZANT OF THE FACT THAT ACTORS WALLETS ONLY STRETCH SO FAR lol. My only suggestion is being aware of the stop time (or just extending), as we did tend to go over at the end of class (which just attests to the fact that she was dedicated to giving everyone the time that they needed to perform, adjust, and ask questions). They are wonderful teachers with a ton of invaluable information, these ladies know their stuff! If you want to learn something, learn it from those who have mastered it and they have. My children just finished up the Kids and Teen classes here with Scott. They both had a fabulous time and learned some great commercial audition techniques! At the last class, the parents were invited in to see tapes of the kids and see their progress. I was very impressed! I recommend these classes for all ages. My kids book and we will still go back for review and new classes. As parents of kids who book my husband has also started taking classes. This is a great idea because as parents you WILL get called in to audition with your kids. Mom's next to sign up! So far we have only taken Scott's classes but we will be trying a couple others that he recommended. We took 4 sessions of classes so far between our family of 4. Both my kids are working two SAG jobs over two weeks which were booked during and after their last session of classes. Just finished Scott's core commercial class and I would highly recommend beginner actors that are interested in doing commercials to take his class. I've been doing commercial auditions for years but this class has made me more relaxed in the room, especially when given sides at the audition. I loved Lori Medlin's class 'Virtual Bite, Sip, Smile, and Other Specialty Auditions'. It was recommended to me by my commercial agent and I'm so happy I took his advice. It was exactly what I needed after a 2 year break from commercial auditioning. The knowledge and information I received from Lori has definitely made an impact in my auditions. By the 2nd week, I had a callback simply from just following Lori's advice. Lori's so good at breaking down and simplifying how to handle any situation in the room, specifically for those (maybe awkward) eating and drinking moments. I learned sooo much in her class. I learned to be confident in what I was doing and to bring the scene to life vs just reading lines back and forth. My five year old boy just took this ninety minute class. He loved it and wants to take it again. What I liked the most about this class was the teacher. He always started the class on time-to the minute. He behaved professionally with the boisterous children, treating them respectfully and yet calming them and wrangling them with a beautiful expertise. No overly dramatic phony smiles or gimmicks. Perhaps that is why the children loved him and treated him with such respect. I know they were having a good time as I often heard them laughing from where I sat in the waiting room. Watching the teacher with them, it seemed he genuinely enjoyed the children and had a very good understanding of their ages, not worrying or trying to control what he knew they couldn't help, but maintaining high expectations in those areas he knew they could deliver.
