This was an excellent musical tonight. The Colony always has good theater and The Wedding Singer was one of the best in the 20 years of coming here. Parking underground right next to the theater is free, small theater so most seats are good (we were in Row C in the middle) and they have ushers helping people find their seats as needed. This was my first time at the Colony Theatre in Burbank and I was pleasantly surprised at how close it was to Downtown Burbank! I took my niece to her first musical for the world premiere of Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile and we LOVED it. "The Secret Comedy of Women" is THE best comedy I have ever seen....for women! these 2 women are brilliant with their creation and acting it all out. Bought a tix to an upcoming show. They canceled the show. I did receive an email for other options of performances. That's when it got sketchy. Absolutely no response! Numerous emails to onstage 411 who handles their ticketing. Numerous calls. Nothing. Total scam. Had to dispute payment with my credit card. Onstage 411 handles all of their ticketing so I will not be going to any shows they have. Extremely inconvenient and disappointing experience. read more

Second time to this venue and it was great again! The people who work there are pleasant and the facility doesn't have a bad seat in the house. We saw The Secret Comedy of Women and it was a cute comedy. I loved the interactive approach to this very unique play. read more

Came here to see my nieces winter holiday dance performance. Parking is located in the Burbank mall parking structure. Even thigh the performance was during the holiday crunch time, there was plenty of free parking. I've been here a few times before and usually they have sold concessions, but this time around the small area set aside for sales was dark. Apparently the dance school didn't want to serve. Send like missed income, but oh well. Bathrooms are clean. Seats are comfortable. This is a small theater and there really are no bad seats. Theater staff is not informed about the production info.. So if you have questions you need to find someone who is putting on the production. But overall, the theater itself is a small and comfortable, no thrill theater available for rent. It's difficult to rate a theater apart from the shows performed there. I've only been to the Colony for several Troubadour Company shows. These were fun parodies of classic tales told through the altered lyrics and music of popular musicians and acts. The theater itself is a comfortable small theater. Sight lines are excellent, steeply arranged. Audio and lighting systems seem good. Parking is in the associated shopping mall's structure can be problematic. Best advice is to enter the Colony from outside the mall and parking structure on the corner of Third and E Cypress. read more

There are seating area or lounge area in the lobby. Many pictures or art works on the walls. There is small concession stand, selling drinks and snacks. Mid-size theater, every seat is good seat. Los Angeles is a city of excess. From eateries to douche bags; we have a LOT of EVERYTHING. To say that we have a ton of theaters, performing arts centers, and theatre companies is an understatement so these businesses certainly have to stand out in the crowd (no pun intended) to get any notice before the audience moves onto the next one. Colony Theatre may just be another performing arts center; but let's see how it fares, shall we? Colony Theatre is located in Burbank next to Burlington Coat Factory at the Burbank Town Center Mall and across the street from the back of Ikea. Although it has its own street-front entrance (at the corner of Cypress and 3rd); there is also an entryway directly from the parking garage shared with the mall. Speaking of parking, this is free and easy to navigate as plenty of signs direct to the theatre parking area. However, again, this is shared with the mall patrons so it fills up quite quickly. Once inside the lobby, you will be welcomed by the positive energy of local theatre but with a clean, well-maintained, modern, aesthetic. Colony Theatre provides that perfect ratio of independent neighborhood artist collective but with the professional finesse of a well-oiled machine. There is a welcome desk immediately upon entrance from the garage entry-way and the box office is by the street-front entry. Ticket pickup at the box office window was easy-as-pie. Although the young female attendant wasn't particularly polite or friendly (the other employees are more in the senior citizen realm); she was efficient and pickup merely involved stating my name versus showing any ID (although I still suggest bringing ID in case). How is the theatre itself? The Colony Theatre is the typical red-chair variety with seating on an elevated gradient; about medium-sized. The chairs are comfortable but have NO leg room. I am only 5'4" and still had difficulties and felt like I was a tree with crazy-long limbs. Other than that, the lighting and sound are on-par and even though I had wonderful center section seats about 6 rows up; it seemed like there really wasn't a bad seat in the house. The organizers didn't mention whether photography was allowed or not so I am unaware if that is an issue for you instagram-ers. Want to help the Colony Theatre with raising funds? Or are you just simply hungry during intermission? The lobby features a coffee kiosk that sells bars, cookies, chips, etc (approximately $2.00 per cookie, bar, etc). All of the funds go directly to the theatre so it is a great way to "donate". The Colony Theatre is intimate but smooth-running with that local essence but without leaving you ill-at-ease. If you are considering checking out a play in a simple and comfortable but well-running theatre; than the Colony is at your service. Even in the city of excess... it stands out among the masses. read more

Took me a while to get around to writing this review. Went to see "Old Jews Telling Jokes." The sound system was so poor that many people strained to hear. Mind you, this is a show that certainly targets elderly folk who likely don't have the best hearing. MY hearing is quite good and even I was shocked at how bad the sound was. It would have been laughable, except we wasted money on this substandard venue and the performers were already struggling with corny dated material. The material would have been MUCH better if it didn't sound like it was being whispered through a toilet-paper tube. I'm always amazed when a theater can't get simple things like SOUND to work correctly. It's not rocket science, nor is it particularly expensive in smaller theaters like these. They really need some help. read more

Why haven't I been here all these years?!?! I've lived in the area for decades, and though I've always wanted to, I've never had the pleasure of visiting The Colony. Although their ticket rates are very reasonable as it is, I saw that opening night tickets for Road to Appomattox were comped on Goldstar, except for a $6 service charge. SCORE! I scooped up 3 (me, my mom, & a friend), and hit the premiere. First of all, parking is a breeeze. It's in the mall, basically, so there's a ton of parking. I just entered from the entrance by Burlington on Third street (near Magnolia), and followed the signs to the Colony. Easy. Parked right in front. You can also the theatre from the street, but I didn't see a need to park outside. Just seems more complicated for no reason! My tickets were at will-call, which is entitled "box office," as it is also the box office. Just gave my name and picked them up. Everyone was friendly, also. Now, yes, 70% of The Colony's patrons are over 70, as stated in other reviews. BUT #1, I love (LOVE) senior citizens (they're so polite and awesome, usually!) and #2, the play is not catered to seniors, so that really shouldn't influence whether or not you go. It's a really lovely group of people in general, all respectful and eager to see the play. It's someplace you can go with a friend or your parents or even by yourself. The refreshments are really just that - refreshments. Coffee, bottled water, chocolate chip cookies in mini bags, candy bars, chips, etc. We got some coffee (which was good!), and some cookies and chips. They apparently now allow coffee inside the theatre, as long as you use a lid. :) Everything was reasonably priced, many things were just $2 (coffee, for example). The place itself is really cute, too! Vintage-y stuff, and a beautiful little art gallery. There are a few little pieces of jewelry and signed art prints that you can purchase. I also looove supporting the local arts, so that's just another plus right there, the fact that I can spend my money here instead of some huge movie theater like AMC. This is soo much more fun! The play itself was sooooooooooo awesome, I loved it! It's about Robert E. Lee and a few of his men right before his surrender, and a young couple struggling with their marriage as well (in modern times). I could literally watch it again! Also, we were in Row E, on the side. There really wasn't a bad seat in the house, though, as many have stated. Even though we were way to the side, we still saw everything perfectly. Seats were a liiiittle narrow for my Amazonian self, but it's okay, they were soft and cushy, and my bum didn't fall asleep. There are also a few handicap seats in the front, I believe, but I think you must make arrangements for that beforehand, if I'm not mistaken. Anywho, the actors were pretty good! I didn't notice any forgotten lines or flubs, and despite the play being just under 2 hours (with a short intermission), it wasn't at ALL boring, and kept my interest throughout. Plus, how cute is the dude that played the 2 roles (there were 5 actors total)! I can't wait to get another chance to go here. Totally worth the $18 we spent for the tickets, and the few bucks for refreshments. I would actually gladly pay more! :) read more

I love the theater and this is a hidden gem in LA. Located in Burbank, by the mall on hwy 5, this theater is small and intimate, has great lighting and sound and puts on some of the best local theater productions in the country! My friend and I went to see Handle with Care. Fantastic acting! BRAVO!!! The plot had a really good story as well about love, family road trip that leads to comedic life changing events. There is parking next door in a large parking structure and tickets are reasonable. I got my tickets on goldstar.com for 15 dollars each or so. Can't beat that! Warning, the theater going crowd is a little older, but it should not be, this place is great for all ages. read more

Came here for Sarah and Phil Kay(e)'s poetry performance and the theater is so nice! It is very intimate and although I sat towards the middle back of the audience, I still felt very close to the performers! The theater definitely made the performance that much more enjoyable! I would come back for other types of shows!! We found parking at the YMCA that's just down the street... but I think there is also a parking structure and other parking lots close by. There's also a lot of food options super close by so if you are in Burbank for the first time, like I was, definitely stay or come early for a meal before or after your show! read more

Unfortunately this little gem of a theater has its drawbacks. If you could see it off to the side you're in trouble. Gold star with sold as our tickets, and promised us premium seating at a higher price, saddest way off to the side. Not only was The view with the stage kind of crappy, but the quality of the sound system was absolutely appalling. Unless you said med Center Downey of the front you're in trouble. read more

We went to see Old Jews Telling Jokes which we were not allowed to see. Because of traffic, we arrived 10 minutes late. Even though I peaked in the theater and saw many seats available and actors walking off the stage in between acts, we were not allowed to enter during a down time. Some lady came running up to me and grabbed my arm repeatedly telling me she was going to call security. 1. Every other theater allows late seating during appropriate lulls. 2. No notice was given ahead of time informing of this nonadmittance policy. 3. Physically grabbing a non disruptive, unobtrusive customer is inconceivable and probably illegal. 4. Threatening and then calling security when I was already walking to the exit is inexcusable. What kind of unsocialized, unaccommodating, rude people work there? Public relations nightmare. read more

The Colony Theater (Burbank,CA) is not only "LIVE" action plays! It is old/classic films theater too! With a great community feel for a regional arts venue! It has easy FREE parking in a @BurbankCA shopping mall! So after your theater cafe noshing you can go get a larger meal or drinks, at the nice restaurants or food court area just a block away thru parking structure. No need to move the car! The crowd was great! Many seniors, but some active young people too! Great large theater with soft cushy seats! No nose bleed seating! Nice selection of drinks: warm & cold, with some bite selections from the lobby cafe with its theatrical AWARDS against the Wall! Large two shelves of Awards! And listed as one of the best small theater venues and performances in the LA region, which IS SAYING ALOT! This is HOLLYWOOD and acting hub of the West! Don't forget to check out the interesting colors of the bathrooms, classic old 50's/60's color schemes! Such a fun little theater/theatre venue! But no food in the theater, so be warned. And the City of Burbank has lots of recreational opportunities too! I'll put up another collection(album) for nearby hike! Being on the edge of the mountains makes it easy to want to see nature and get outside! Ask the very helpful staff for directions! The ladies are so willing to help out! At many shows being less than $20, it was cheaper than going to the high priced venues here in my San Diego!?! 8v/ ,even with gas co$ts! My day started with a late nibble, then the movie: Breakfast at Tiffany's classic was so fun I can't wait to pencil in "the Colony" for another show! Great crowd, staff, and location. Got a quick bite in the Mall next door right after. Could of easily spent an hour or two there, but had a schedule: Hike Wildwood Canyon just a mile or two up Harvard St. Highly blessed with amazing view of HOLLYWOOD Hills, the valley below, the golf course & airport. First time here! A little awkward to find in the parking structure...but there were a lot of signs, so as long as you follow them patiently you'll be fine. Charming theater...I saw Morini Strad here directed by Stephanie Vlahos. It was amazing! The lead actress was brilliant. The theater is intimate with nicely tiered seating. I came to see 'Travels With My Aunt' recently and I was completely charmed by this independent operation, with smiling box office workers, a personal welcome at the beginning, and even a little local art gallery that you can check out at intermission. I visited this theatre for the first time this last weekend and enjoyed the experience. The staff was very hospitable and available to answer any questions or address any concerns. The performance was engaging and entertaining....amazing how good acting...a few props...and a vivid imagination can provide such a viisceral experience. I would certainly visit this theatre again and would even be intentional in buying tickets and taking others for a performance. I gave this establishment a 4 star rating due largely to the fact that my first ever experience at the ticket window was dissapointing. When I called a couple of weeks before and reserved my seats...I requested specific seating...but, when I arrived to get my tickets...my seats had been moved with no explanation....but I was told that the seats I did have "were good seats" - a mild balm for a stinging pain....nonetheless..... read more

I see a lot of theater- everything from community theater to Broadway. My box office experience with Colony is the worst I have ever experienced. First, the "online" system consists of filing out your order, then they call you sometime to complete the order. I ordered tickets for Mary Lincoln in September. I was aware from another source that the star would have to postpone the show. I waited for an official announcement from the theater, but I didn't hear anything. After receiving email from the theater about the new season, which included the show now in April, I called the theater myself. I could not get seats as good as my original ones because they told me it was almost all. How could it be all full if they didn't even make the announcement??? After a grand total of seven phone calls and emails with various box office employees, I finally received my tickets. Due to the miss management of the issue, I made sure the hard tickets were emailed to my house. I have documented proof about the days I needed the tickets from the emails, however on the phone and I never gave them that information. I got everything squared away and lol and behold, a month later I received a call from the theatre informing me that the show has been moved. Based on this mismanaged experience, I will not see a show at Colony Theatre again. read more
