My mother passed away in the middle of the night, and the facility where she was staying needed a funeral home to pick her up within three hours. I called a couple of different places that didn't seem well prepared. From the very first phone call, Camino Del Sol was incredibly understanding, compassionate, and patient. They took the time to answer all of my questions and made a very difficult situation a little easier. Losing a loved one is never easy, but Leticia was such a comfort during the process. She helped me every step of the way and made sure everything was taken care of, allowing me to focus on my family instead of worrying about the details. These people are awful. The owner Otto Shimmel and his assistant Leticia Ruiz are so unproffessional. We had services for my grandmother with them. Leticia was extremly rude to the family. Otto Shimmel made terrible comments about the family (per Leticia) and called Us "ghetto" for picking up the left over coffee cups, water bottles, coffe, and creamer. Back in late March I texted Otto at 7am on a Sunday morning from St John's hospital in Oxnard. I was there with a friend that had passed away and his elderly wife. Within an hour Otto had my friend picked up and helped me and his wife plan a funeral. My friend is in her late eighties and had just lost her partner of 63 years. The kindness and compassion that Otto showed her was beautiful. He made sure her every wish was followed and went above and beyond what I expected from a funeral director. Not only did he help plan the funeral he helped me cut through lots of bureaucratic red tape with the German consulate and helped me get my friend's remains back to Müllheim Germany. Thank you Otto! Just recently helped a dear friend of mine arrange her mother's service here, from our first time meeting we were treated like family and communication was on point. During the service the evening staff was amazing, attentive and showed so much compassion. The restrooms were clean and stocked. worst place ever, please find another place. we were told we couldn't see our loved one or not even take pics/videos. that he was already decomposing thats the reason we cant have his casket open. so we wont be able to see him one last time. my beloved cousin drowned but he was found imminently i dont under how would his body be so decomposed for us not to be able to see him. they probably didnt even fix him at all. and the firs time i called to ask info the lady was pretty rude i had lots of questions but she went ahead ando told me the only thing you need to know is..... and went ahead and told me only what she wanted to tell me. Save yourself the head ache and do not take a loved ones here for the Burial service. We had a horrible incident, the funeral home failed to get the death certificate for our family member and gave us the run around claiming the doctor never faxed over the proper documents. We called the doctor and turned out they barley had attempted to get the proper signatures the day of, instead of notifying us they continued on with the service only to have us sitting around waiting claiming they had done the proper steps and it was the doctors fault witch was not the case it was completely their fault. We arranged the burial service weeks in advance and they decided to take action the day of. This hole situation caused us to not be able to continue with the burial service and now has to be rescheduled witch sucked due to us having family come out of town and taking time off of work. This is a bittersweet review for me to write. It was due to the loss of one of the most important people in my life, that I came across Camino Del Sol Funeral Home in Oxnard, CA. After my family was informed by the doctors just three weeks ago that my beloved grandfather had only a couple of weeks left, and in the middle of all that pain, I knew that we needed to plan for what was to come. I began calling some of the local funeral homes around town (in Oxnard, where he lived) to obtain information and prepare for the funeral services. I quickly learned how incredibly sad and hurtful it was, that some of these businesses, have forgotten that when you come to them it is usually during a very difficult time and that this process may require a bit more empathy. There was a particular funeral home in town (which I will not even mention by name), where the woman I spoke to was so cold and unsympathetic, that it actually made me upset to think of having them carry out any of the services that would be required. I then made the next call, it was to Camino Del Sol and I immediately noticed the difference. From the moment I began asking questions, the Funeral Home Director, Leticia, was warm, caring, compassionate and patient. She immediately began to provide me with more information than I ever thought of or knew to ask. She guided me step by step on everything from the required pre-planning documentation, to final service arrangements. It made me feel much more at ease and I felt that they would care to treat this entire process with great respect for us and more importantly for my grandfather. Shortly after my grandfather's passing, they came, and handled everything with the same level of respect and care that I received from Leticia during the first phone call. They took care of every detail and made sure that all of our family's wishes were carried out until the very end. We never had to worry or stress about any part of it. O took time off of work hoping that I would have her remains before going back based.on their time frame to better cope with the loss and now its time for me to go back..... I have to tell you this place was amazing. They were such a blessing to our family. The price for cremation was well below their competition. Otto helped me with the entire process. Even with their budget package they notified Social Security for us, they contacted and scheduled the amazing Honor Guard, they are contacting and scheduling the Riverside National Cemetery. I am almost at lost for words but yet so much to say as to what I witnessed at Camino Del Sol, it was truly heartbreaking and unacceptable! As I was waiting to be helped there was an older man giving a payment on his "homesteaders" account, he had his folder with all of his previous payments (copies of his money orders). The worker looks at me and says "can I help you?" I replied and said after him, I'm in no hurry! The older guy (Mr. Zuniga) waits for his receipt, when the owner Otto comes out & says with a loud stern...RUDE voice, "you're going to come back tomorrow, we can't take this payment!" "My girls called in sick today, you'll have to come back," "that's WHY YOU SHOULD CALL BEFORE COMING!" "Everybody else mails their payments, we're doing YOU A FAVOR by allowing you to make payments here, so YOU need to be understanding to US!". (My thoughts to this were "are you freaking kidding me" this isn't an eye for an eye)! The man replays and says "I come every first of the month". Mind you, Mr. Zuniga is in a motorized wheelchair and has trouble walking. So I had to step in as I could not believe what I was witnessing, I said "well maybe he and the gals have arrangements for him to come in on the first" he says "no I'm the owner, there are no arrangements!" Otto then says "I have to get back to my meeting". Really because had I been the client I would have walked out after hearing that! I looked at the man & said are you sure you want your services here? He says "well Mija I'm almost done paying" I said I don't know but they have NO right speaking to you like this! He says, I know they should be nicer, it's hard for me to get here. I also said in front of the "worker guy" you know it's sad for them to speak to you like this as I'm sure they have a mother, a father, or a loved one who they wouldn't want treated as they just treated you, they should be ashamed of their actions! I left with a mix of emotions...DISGUSTED in their choice of words, SADDENED as this man chose them to handle his services and is treated like less of a human, ANGERED & HEARTBROKEN as they treated him like this because he was alone. We used their services 7 years ago for my Mom, Leticia was so kind, warm and caring person...BUT I WILL NEVER USE THEIR SERVICES AGAIN NOR WILL I RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE! read more
