I have already written a 5 star excellent review for cremation services for my wife of 61 years provided on 10/29/2025.. However, after I received my wife's urn, contained in a beautiful blue velvet bag, with a bright yellow cord closure, my son requested a small memorial urn with a portion of his mother's ashes. I wasn't able to open the inner container of the larger urn. I called Coast Cities Cremation to ask their assistance. Irma, at the front office was very kind and helpful, informing me that, if I dropped by during business hours, they would reopen the urn, transfer a portion to the small urn and reseal both. It was arranged and took only 10 minutes. On top of that, the smaller urn , which I purchased elsewhere, came back with its own smaller but beautiful velvet bag. My son was pleased with the package when we met later. I was comforted with the consistent kindness and helpfulness by Irma, in the front office and the Director of CCC. The whole process of care for my late wife, from transporting her from the hospice care home, where I met them the night of her passing, to my last contact with their office in Ventura, was a 4/4 Star service. Stay far away. Ray has erratic behavior will constantly laugh during conversation for no reason. He has zero compassion for the grieving family. He's in a rush and has wrote down false information on my grandpas final documents. He did not care and threw the pen at my mom as she was trying to correct all his mistakes. He began to turn red and appeared furious stood over my mom and I yelling f*** you! He then started getting louder and said get your father out of here and kicked us out of the building. He had a full size mattress in the building along with his dog that desperately needed to be groomed. My mom and I were shaking and I'm shock. We were both scared if they would harm or hurt my granpa Update: I am upset once again that you can not even own up to your actions. We did not curse at you once. We were greeted with nothing, but verbal abuse from the beginning. You are unprofessional, a liar, and clearly not accountable. You should really reconsider your line of business because no one should have to encounter a person with as little moral and tact as you in their time of need. So losing my dad has been horrible, took me by surprise and hurts like heck. In times like this it is hard to find something positive to help. The first thing is that I know my dad is with the Lord and there is tremendous peace in knowing that I will see him someday in heaven. Through this process there have been several people that have been very good to me and helped me through hard stuff. What a horrible company to work with, after my fathers passing March of 2023. They have continuously let us down time and time again. They messed up my fathers urn 3 times. Ordering the wrong ones of telling me it would be ready when it really wasn't. I am still dealing with them now. Last time I talked to them they said they would make it right and order the Urn I originally wanted free of cost. Now I get a bill in the mail telling me I should have already paid for it. I arranged to have Coast Cities do my creation but when I received the paperwork my name was misspelled. I called and asked if I should write in the correct name or will they run another set for me. Person on the phone said they'd get back to me the next day. Three weeks later still no answer so called again. I got the same answer and it's been another three weeks. I didn't plan to need their service but no one ever does. I was referred to this business by a friend in the industry so I knew it was reputable. When I called Ray answered and he put me instantly at ease. He explained the entire process and was overly sensitive. He let me know the correct amount of death certificates needed and when I could collect my moms remains. Cindy also helped to confirm options for the remains and was extremely knowledgeable on regulations limiting us bringing them into Germany as was out our original plan. What is the store front of a crematorium supposed to look like? Is that too philosophical a question? I was a little nervous about the store front for Coast Cities because even though it is located in a nice historic building in Ventura, it's a little too 'historic' in places, if you know what I mean. Having been recommended to Coast Cities by Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital and having had a pleasant, not pushy, conversation with Ray, the owner, on the phone, I was willing to overlook my reservations. Our experience dealing with Ray was top-notch. He was exceptionally pleasant and accomodating. I loved that he gave me all the information, including prices, that I needed over the phone without a single ounce of trying to sell me. Ray was sympathetic and willing to take care of many logisitical issues that other companies seemed to charge for. I am glad that my mother-in-law never saw this location, though, because it might have put her off entirely. The only other drawback was that despite the extensive choices in the company brochure, only a few were available onsite. Luckily, we chose one that ended up being in stock and we were happy with its look and its price, but I think we would have had to wait over a week for some of the other choices. Death sucks any way you cut it, but it is nice to be treated respectfully without being gouged by the people you depend on in these situations. I would recommend Ray to other people with the caution that the first visual impression may be off-putting. I suppose this is a testament to the fact that rents are so insanely high that offering reasonable prices probably means a less than fancy location. read more

Small touches like providing a white sheet to wrap the body, and standing respectfully beside the car to allow us a few last moment before they drove away, waiting us to bid a last goodbye. Made a bad situation as good as possible when my mom passed. They never even discussed the method of payment until a few days afterward. I would have assumed this was normal until today, when another company came 6 days later on behalf of my dad. Didn't show up on time; finally showed up 3 1/2 hours later. Asked to wrap his body in the sheet on the bed. Very unceremoniously and insensitively just closed the vehicle as we stood there crying. Ray and each member of his staff treated us with a tremendous amount of kindness, respectfulness and support. When my mom passed, they took their time and were so gentle and respectful despite the midnight hour. They returned to assure us that mom would be in good hands over the weekend and not to worry because someone would call me on Monday to make arrangements. I had to transport her ashes from CA to HI to have a Veteran's wife's service. They took care of all of the paperwork and scheduled the service. They truly took a tremendous amount of weight off my shoulders when I needed that the most.
