My dog loves coming here! He's a very shy guy but the staff does an amazing job making him comfortable. They always scream "ALFIE!!!" When he comes in and never want him to leave. I booked a 2-night stay over the weekend and received a confirmation for $128 ($64/night) , only to be charged $148 due to a holiday surcharge that was not disclosed when booking. When I reached out for clarification, I was met with dismissive customer service from Amber when she told me that there was an extra $10/day charge due to a holiday weekend. She told me she was not sure why it did not notify me of the additional charge when making the reservation but that she would not refund the difference. My fiancé and I love boarding our German Shepherd at Camp Bow Wow when we go on vacation! Our boy, Ollie, is sweet and high-energy, but also nervous and reactive to people and other dogs. Somehow, he does so well at the camp and loves the endless pets and hugs from the kind staff members. We appreciate the online web cams where you can watch the dogs play and relax in the various playgrounds, so you never have to worry that your precious fur babies are in the wrong hands. They offer overnight stays, day boarding, etc. The staff is very attentive and it's also amazing how Camp Bow Wow has multiple locations all over the nation. Do not bring your dogs here! My dogs reeked of urine when I picked them up. I had to bathe them as soon we got home because they stunk so bad. I have to assume they were laying in urine soaked blankets for the duration of their stay....3 nights. Their blankets smelled so bad of urine, that I had to throw them away. I talked to the owner and she did not care at all.....just made excuses. Both my dogs are over 13 years and I was heart broken when I picked them up. Not once did I see an employee interact with my dogs on the webcam. One of my dogs had horrible diarrhea for an entire week after we picked her up. The vet said that it was probably caused by a parasite. Definitely do not recommend Camp Bow Wow in El Cajon. read more

Unfortunately, we've had to find different options for pet care because their staffing ratios are plainly unsafe. There are often more than 20 dogs in the small dog area for a single staffer. At some point it's hard to see how dogs could even run around and play due to the sheer crowdedness. Some staffers clearly have difficulty with movement and we've seen fights break as the staffers turned their back to grab a broom and get stuck opening a gate for a few minutes, with their back to the dogs. Taking care of active dogs requires stamina and agility, things can go south quickly. The workers are completely overwhelmed, and owners should reduce intake numbers instead of trying to squeeze a buck for max profits. Boarding on Sundays is less than ideal too as the dogs are kept in the cages. read more

My dog got kennel cough and a severe hotspot/allergies at this facility. They told my husband that my dog was wet when picked up because she went into the pool when I literally watched her on the webcam the whole time she was there. She NEVER went into the pool. I love this place so much. My 12 year old schnoodle has very bad separation anxiety which made it so hard to go to work, and bringing her to Camp Bow Wow in El Cajon made life so much better. My dog loves going, she gets excited when we pull into the parking lot! The staff is extremely friendly, and very caring. They even gave my dog a photo shoot on her birthday which was so adorable and really highlighted just how much the staff cares. When I first brought my dog here, I stared at the "camper cams" all day long thinking my dog would be freaking out, but she never did. Recently picked up my dog and found out they were covered in fleas from my groomer. Called Camp Bow Wow to give them a heads up and the woman on the phone was cold and rude. She was "mhmm" me and treated me like I was wasting her time because I was crazy. At the end she gave me a "anything else I can help you with" No apology or question about the dog's well-being. Disappointing interaction. Says a lot about how some of their staff care for the dogs. Should have been handled with more kindness and courtesy. read more

I'm so disappointed with Camp Bow- it seemed so promising and I thought it was exactly what my hyper and social husky needed when we had to board him. I liked the camera access in the play areas, the raised cots, and that they honored military discounts. The facility also always seemed decently clean and inviting. Our first visit there was also very successful and I was really happy taking him there! Even if we were not aloud to tour the back which made me uncomfortable too. However, after what happened at our most recent visit and after I reached out and got no response or even an apology, I will not be taking my pup back there again. This particular location is severely understaffed. The front desk workers were sweating with stress and anxiety and could not manage the intake process, check outs, or whatever was happening in the back. During our pickup, I was watching my dog on the camera as he paced the gate and two dogs came towards him and a fight broke out. There was one female worker amongst at least 25 dogs (maybe more) and her reaction was lethargic and uncaring. My poor puppers left with a torn lip! He was also (less importantly) missing food containers. What's more, I gave them an opportunity to reach out to me and apologize for this "one time occurrence" and no one ever did. That's what upset me the most. So that's that. We are taking him elsewhere. read more

Okay, I still like Camp Bow Wow and our new dog seems to do okay there, for the most part. But tonight has me re-thinking continuing there. She is an old, overweight Lab with so many allergies it's a wonder she can breathe air without losing hair or something. The allergies are protein-based, so she can't eat chicken, beef or any other regular dog food. We have her on a special moderate-calorie diet. We have her on a special shampoo. We use salmon oil to try to keep her coat and skin in good condition. She sees two specialists in addition to her regular vet. I spend almost $300 a month just on a shot to help her allergies. I spend an additional $200 on her food and special treats. When she gets nervous, she doesn't eat. She was in camp overnight and she gets stressed when she's away from us. I took in a plant-based butter substitute and told them to put a little on her food if she wasn't eating. Tonight, when I went to pick her up, I get a snotty "We have to talk" from one of the workers. "Butter? Butter?" And she then proceeds to go on about it, implying that having this 12-year-old dog NOT EAT is a great strategy, as if starving a creature is a wonderful diet plan. Back off, girlfriend. Please make sure you call ahead and ask for a schedule of times your dog will actually be out of the kennel interacting with other dogs. I brought my dog here for the holiday because I thought it would be better than leaving him home alone in a kennel all day but come to find out this is what happened at camp bow wow most of the time he was there. Today I check the cameras from 1030am-345pm and no dogs were ever out. I do not know when they were ever out prior to 1030am. Maybe they got 15 minutes in the morning. When they finally went out and were on the camera for me to see they were out from only 345-4pm. I also have a photo of a worker grabbing my dog from interacting with another dog, by the collar and holding him by it with two hands. I picked my dog up around 415pm because I was so upset. When I went inside and asked to speak to a manager the young workers said no management was there because of the holiday. They never asked if there was anything they could help me with etc,. I had to tell them I need to be contacted asap and leave my contact information. I will definitely be choosing the higher priced camp run a mutt as they offer "cage free" boarding or wag services. In conclusion make sure you are ok with your dog being in the kennel for most of their stay being boarded. Not the experience I was looking for. read more

Reading LinkedIn employee reviews, show their staff is not happy and seem to be overwhelmed. I've caught them lying to me several times and when I called them on it, they were like SOOO... I picked up my dog the day after Thanksgiving 2023. She was not looking normal, and she was soaking wet for some reason. I asked one of the staff why she was wet and she stated my dog was playing in the pool. Why was the pool setup when it was cold out I asked and she said nothing. When I got home she started vomiting bile. She wouldn't eat for days. No veterinarians would see her due to that killer dog virus that was going around. It turned out my dog got that virus from one of the dogs that was there. My dog was at Camp Bow Wow for three days and got sick on the second day. However, they failed to contact me or anyone else on my emergency list. Probably because they wanted an extra day worth of boarding. My dog almost didn't make it. I had to take a week off of work to take care of my dog. She pulled through ok and was back to normal again. A month later I had to leave my dog at Camp Bow Wow again. Even though I really didn't want to, but I had a Xmas trip scheduled months before. When I picked her up from that stay, her bed and her toy was soaking wet. I got her home and she drank almost a gallon of water and ate two bowls (4 cups) of dog food in two minutes! It usually takes her all day to eat that much food. She's a slow eater. So she was given no food for at least a day and no water for a while. Also she was throwing up bile again 4 times a day for three days. I've been bringing my dog here for years and never had an issue until now. It's probably one or two of their newer staff members that's neglecting the dogs. This is two visits in a row my dog came home with some kind of illness. I will never take her back there again. This site needs to be shut down. Their abusing dogs by not feeding them or not giving them adequate water and or giving them something. It almost seemed like my dog was poisoned the last two stays. They will not allow anyone in the back to see how they're setup. What are they hiding? Criminal charges needs to be brought onto them. I'm currently seeking legal advise. read more

If I could put zero stars I would. I dropped my sweet puppy off at this facility thinking she would be safe, but 20 minutes after dropping her off, I received a phone call that my dog got bit by another dog in the hotel. The facility goes through a 3 hour interview with the dogs before accepting them, which made me think this would be a reliable place for me to take my dog, but something must not be too legit about that 3 hour interview considering the fact that this dog bit mine due to the fact that mine let out a slight squeal. YES, my dog let out a little cry, causing another dog to attack her. When I asked for the information of the other dog owner, they stated that they cannot disclose that information, which is the most ridiculous response I have ever heard. There are cameras all over the place, but when I asked if I could see the video surveillance of when she got attacked by the other dog, they still responded with that information not allowed to be given. Overall terrible experience. I thought I was going to be able to enjoy my time out of the country, but instead I had a terrible week away from my dog. I would be very cautious to bring my dog here...especially if you have a high energy dog. Everytime I would pick up my doberman from this place, she always had a limp...she never ate her food here either. These dogs did not get the premier treatment whatsoever. In fact, I would venture to say that I believe she was mistreated and abused. The staff at camp bow wow also lied to me...which is a direct reflection of management and or the owners of this place. My dog came back with a lump on her back left side...we could not figure out what it was. We took our dog to get it autopsied by a doctor who has been around over 30 years..we also got second opinions from vets..the lump ended up being scar tissue from another dog biting her ...the only other dogs that our doberman was around were the dogs at camp bow..ever. Also, dont pay for a dog wash, because we found out that they WASH your dog in the morning before they go out and play with other dogs and get slobbered on...so what exactly are you paying for? Hands down the NICEST staff you'll ever meet. What's more, there is a web cam so you can watch your baby play while you're away. Everything from the lobby, to the play areas, and kennels are clean. Not even the slightest hint of "doggie odor" when you walk in the door. The staff genuinely care about your pooch and are trained to work with dogs - you wont find the typical "i grew up with a dog so I'm qualified to work at a boarding facility" like you find at other places. Camp Bow Wow does a great job taking care of our dog Minnie. She comes home clean, healthy and happy. The staff is friendly and obviously loves dogs. Pricy, but if you can afford to indulge your dog, then CBW is a good bet. CBW provides webcams to let you look in on the dogs during the day. When my wife and I are away, every few days I like to look in on the webcam and see if Minnie is walking around with her tail in the air. When I see her doing that, my mind is at ease. This showed me that they care about the environment that their dogs are in. We were able to watch the interview on cameras. She was introduced to other dogs gradually. One of the things that amazes me about this place is that they always remember you and your pup. Every time I walk in they know it's Lola right away! I don't even know how with the number of dogs that come in AND this was before we were even regulars. You can tell the staff really cares and I trust them 110%. What's cute too is that they often give report cards to tell you how your dog did for the day. Your pup will also be exhausted once you pick them up! Last but not least I think it's amazing that you can check in on your pup via the website or mobile app to see how they're doing with the staff and other dogs. When we walk in, they are always so welcoming, remember the dogs' names (I've seen it with my own and others dropping off at the same time), and get excited to see Penny, so it is like dropping her off with family. 2) The experience - they have indoor/outdoor space with staff oversight! They also have all of the dogs come in for a trial day to ensure they will get along with other dogs. Your dog will get stimulation through socialization and exercise - not just shut in a crate the entire stay. 3) All in One Pricing. Dog boarding isn't cheap, and some places try to convince you that it is a really low rate and then charge you for everything under the sun. Camp Bow Wow is the opposite - you get the overnight stay, the day of camp play, a campfire treat, medicines given if needed and live streaming in the play areas all included in their rate. It is wonderful! 4) The app. If I'm gone for any extended amount of time, I start to miss my girl. With the app I can literally check on her from anywhere I have an internet connection and watch her playing. 5) Penny loves it (and that's what really matters). This is a long overdue review. We have been customers here for about 7 years. First with just our rescued boxer, Rocky and now with Rocky and our newly rescued terrier mix, Scruffy. We take them for daycare occasionally and board them often. I have always felt like our fur babies were well taken care of here. They go above and beyond. When my boxer boy doesn't want to eat because he misses his family they try everything to get him to eat including hand feeding him. We can't say "camp bow wow" at home because the dogs go insane for the next 30 minutes whining and standing by the door because they want to go. The reason I finally sat down to write this review which I should have done much sooner is that they saved us from being stressed and worried on the current vacation that we're on. We are in Maui for 2 weeks and decided to use a dog sitter this time because Rocky is getting older and gets really sore from all the playtime at Bow Wow. Well, the dog sitter is not working out and I'm so stressed about them not being taken care of and left alone for long periods of time. I called the manager, Amber, to see if they could get them in and she said absolutely! Bring them in. I feel so relieved to know that they will be taken care of at Camp Bow Wow. I took my dog here in the morning, around 1130AM I check the camera to see how hes doing, well ALL THE DOGS WERE GONE. all the cameras doesnt show any signs of the dogs. I was thinking that maybe they let them out for something, 130pm roll by and the dogs were just getting back to the yard. Come to find out they cage them during lunch time or they call it put them in the "cabin". Well this was not disclosed on their site nor when I dropped off my dog. I watch my dog on the camera for a good hour or so, they put this aggressive dog with the group. The dog was barking on everyone, just completely being annoying, trying to pick a fight. Even the trainer that was there just kept on spraying water at the dog, the dog would walk away and pick another dog to bother. he would jump on the trainer, and she still doesnt bother to remove this dog for bad behavior. Then there's a dog who tried to humped every dog. I can tell my dog was not having a good time anymore. Also the dogs are not actually out the yard most of the time so when they end up pee on the floor, unless they clean it right away then the dogs will walk by it or roll on it. Well my dog end up smelling like pee, I had to give her a bath when he got home. I understand they might smell like slobbers but not pee. I went pick him up and had a talk to the lady about it. She gave lots of compliment about my dog's visit but she never disclosed how the dogs were acting towards her. I had to ask about why the dogs were missing for hours and nothing was disclosed. She said they do that just in case if the dogs have to stay over night, well not all dog likes to be caged also they are there to PLAY ALL DAY. this is not children day care that they need a nap time. They will and can nap anywhere they like and should be able to passed out when they get home. I dont understand the concept of putting them in the cage when its supposed to be a day care for dogs. I watch the camera when I got back to work and they did it again, put the dogs out in the cage for an hour or so before they closed. I DONT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. read more
