I brought my kitten first time owner to vetco. I was very nervous first shot. The worker tall white woman was so mean and unprofessional called me a liar ' even though I had picture time frames when I got the cat' in front of her coworker who by the way was very professional and knowledgeable. We had our kitten in his carry on bag my kitten popped his head she then with a very stern voice said nextime that cat better be on its carry on. Her tone was nasty. If I could give it zero stars I would. I had a grooming appt for my dog I called them to make sure his vaccinations were up to date so I didn't waste anyone's time going if they weren't. They said he was good to go so I went the appt and they told me they couldn't see him because the groomer was new and she had only been cutting hair for a year and she "didn't feel comfortable" cutting his hair. That's ridiculous I live far from that petco so that's why I called before, they wasted my time. The cross eyed dude I talked to had horrible customer service and asked me to reschedule. This store do not go here if you want you pet or guinea pig stolen Tooken from you I had purchased a guinea pig and she was very small and pregnant they did not mention I was not aware took her home on 8/24th and had her till 9/14she gave birth when I wasn't home I was at work and my bf was there he was doing laundry and so my guinea pig had gave birth to a fetus that wasn't fully developed no hair and was eaten almost entirely was not much that came out of her there was no life just dark blood as small as a quarter the momma that gave birth was ok it was just that one so my bf threw away the scraps of remain in trash I live in apartment could not Barry it I had went to this petco explained what happen and asked did they know my guinea pig was pregnant they said no and apologize twice that they were sorry didn't seem genuine they were trying to get me to bring her in for the sake of her care and I made it clear I wanted her back and to be better and the process the tall man and old looking woman there which was eyeing me from the start like she was up to something and they both told me she chimmed in and said they can do a refund for me and I can have them take care of her till she's better and treat here and they'll let me know when she's better to get her and I can buy her back I'd have to buy her back. I was experiencing an enormously difficult day, having just received very bad personal news. In addition to her professional, efficient, and systematic checking out my huge order, her warm and caring demeanor truly helped me. April made an awful day better. I am so grateful to her. I signed up for dog training. The girl hosting the training sessions was very nice, but I don't know how knowledgeable she is on the subject. I only attended the first session, and we were alone. No one else in the group showed. And her technique was basically to make loud high pitch sounds. Of course the dog is going to come to me if I make siren sounds. Or say Bap bap bap bap! In a Minnie Mouse voice. I can't reach that pitch with my voice, and if I could I wouldn't do that anyways. I was grateful to get a refund, but disappointed because I was hoping for more from this. read more

We took our dog in as we have been doing for the past year or so, upon pick-up our dog could not wait to get out of their shop (something was wrong) we took her in for her usual de-shedding, teeth cleaning and nail trimming when we got her into the car, she shook and her fur went flying everywhere. It looked like a snow storm. There is no way they combed her out. Her nails were only half done, and it doesn't look like her teeth were cleaned they also charged us for a long-haired dog which is ridiculous, $25 more! This is not the first time we've had a bad experience with the grooming/store. Last weekend my husband took our dog to get groomed. They said, thwy weren't open for grooming. When he got home they called and asked where he was. Told them what the lady said. Chalked it up to miss communication. Today he went again and the store was not open yet 9:15. Saw a women walking in and asked if she worked there. She replied yes, he told he he had an appt and she said... "Well your suppose to push the doors open" what??? (Who does that I asked him?) Then when we went to puck up our dog we were 20 mins late and the (not so nice emplyee) stated that if we were late again they were gonna have to charge us. My husband got into it with her. She was rather rude. Blocking us from ever coming back. (Like we would anyway.) She said ahe was waiting in front of the shop when he got there, if that was true... Why didn't ahe open the doors and let him in. Then she said ahe was in a different part of the store waiting. Again, why didn't ahe let him in? This is my main Petco that I shop at, and have had great experiences for years. Today, unfortunately, has changed that loyalty. I ordered a product on their website to be picked up in the store the next day. It's a product that needed to be picked up asap due to it being part of a medical treatment for my animal companion. The product was stocked on the shelf and ready to go. I thought the email said my item was ready for pick up, so I headed to the store. Come to find out it wasn't ready, which is fine, but I was completely shut down when I asked if it could be picked up now since it's literally on the shelf in the store. The store opener today (June 10th, 2024) was unhelpful and said that since there's another order in front of mine they will not help me and eventually today, sometime before closing, I may get another email to let me know I can come pick up the item. This item is important for medical treatments and they wouldn't even bother to go to the shelf, which I could just pick up myself and bring to them, so they can mark it off and picked up. They just said they're unwilling and unable to help me and walked away. This is not great customer service, especially for a customer who has been loyal to this brand and store location for many years. Unfortunately that has changed as of today's experience. When you visit this store, please alter your expectations for the type of service you will receive. They don't seem to care about the customers or their animal companions medical needs. read more

Very thankful for Ivanna Meza (Grooming Academy Instructor) at Petco Grooming on 2nd Street in El Cajon.. Lady, my doggie has had the same groomer for over 3 years! Lady's groomer is on vacation and I needed someone else to cut Lady's hair this one time! TRUST is a big thing as you know! I met Ivanna over a year ago when Lady and I had pet training at this Petco location which also worked out really well! I highly recommend Ivanna for all grooming services and most of all for her loving care she provided to my doggie. I saw this first handed as I secretly from a distance watched Lady being groomed! Well I guess my family and I will be shopping at Petsmart from now on. Today we had the wort experience with the girl that works the fish area, not sure her name but she had a few face piercings. We have a 20 gallon fish tank and a few other small tanks and went in to get a few neon tetras and some long fin zebra danio, she refused to sell up 3 neons and two zebras because they are "both schooling fish" no duh we know that. But who's to say what we have planned for these fish and that we know what we are doing. The neons were going in our 5 gallon and the zebras were going to go in our 20 gallon. But this is all none of her business and not for her to refuse our Business and her attitude toward my husband and I. We will not be coming back to shop there unless the store manager sees this and can make it right. Very disappointing. read more

Had an appointment with ivanna but another person took the appointment I guess he seemed like he was new. My dog is 7 and I have never once gotten a negative report card from my dog except for this time. They stated my dog would try to bite them when they did his paws which was unusual because I play with my dogs paws all the time. Since I got him back he's been licking his paws non stop and anytime I touch his paws/nails he runs away scared. One star and by that I mean one employee by the name Randy was the start today. He was all over that store helping people nonstop. Meanwhile you have 2 employees and what looked to be a manager in a red shirt at the register practice doing noting cause their was only one person in front of me in line. Worst service and they even lie, went there and got told puppy bath and trim for his first time was $40 went to pick him up and he didnt get trimmed even though I got charged for it (50$) said they gave him a bath but visibly showed he didn't as he still had dirty and a bit of tangled hair. Very disrespectful and manager of grooming also threatened me and my kids and said, puppy was scared so he tried to nip even though he is 12 weeks and still teething which was made aware before we started. At 3:29 March 9th 2020 I ordered a dog harness from Petco website. My choice of pick up was Petco 540 N. 2nd street El Cajon. My order was ready for pick up at 6:15pm March 9th 2020 so the family went to pick up our order. When we got there we did a bit of shopping before we went to the counter to pick up our already paid for harness. We got to the counter and Jose was our checker. We paid for the new items we had picked up then I showed him our confirmation of item we needed to pick up. He started looking for his scanner and could not find it. There were some customers in line so he just started serving them and kind of ignoring the fact we were standing and waiting for our item that we had bought. After 5 min of standing there being ignored by the cashier my husband opened the online order box that was right in front of this young checker and found our item. The checker, Jose said we could not leave until he scanned the item, but he just kept waiting on the people that were in line and ignoring that we were even standing there. When I complained, finally after standing there for 15 min he finally called the manager over the loud speaker. He had to call her a few times. Finally the manager; Ashley came to help but her attitude was horrible. She made us feel that we were inconveniencing her. No apologies at all for the wait. She made a snobby remark, "There is only one of me" What made it worse is Jose the checker kept telling us, "There is only so much I can do". As we were leaving I mentioned I was going to do a Yelp review and the other checker who was just standing around at the front door area said, "Thank you very much" as she sarcastically pushed her chin out and made a sour face. I have worked in customer service for years and was appalled at how unprofessional all these workers were. If I was the manager of this store I would have fired all these late shift people! Ashley as the acting manager this particular evening, her attitude was so over the top unprofessional. She is teaching her team to be just as uncaring as she is. She mentioned Jose was a trainee. My question, if he is really a trainee, then why did it take so many calls and wait time before she came to the front??? I have been a customer of the RSD location Petco for 2 years and quite enjoy it. I had an order unknowingly sent to the 2nd street location. I am disabled and often have my father or daughter pick up my items or brought to my car. Unfortunately, this location does not offer items to be brought to your vehicle, so I sent my daughter in with the order number and my name. They forced her to come back to my car to get my ID and when I confronted the short woman with dark hair at 5:15pm approx, she lied and said it was required when the one down the street NEVER has required it. I believe she racially profiled my 13 year old daughter because even though she had my name and text of my order number, she refused to give her the items. My ID obviously does not match her, so she is doubly lying about it being required. As a legally disabled person, I am highly upset that this person pulled this crap. My daughter didn't understand, but I do. I am greatly rethinking about being a loyal customer, who also pays for VitalCare for my pet, of Petco due to this maltreatment. read more

We now bring our Chow Chow to the 2nd Street location for grooming. I can honestly say that the sole reason is that we followed our groomer, Ivanna, when she moved from the RSD location. She has groomed our girl since they was 10 weeks old and was instrumental in our socialization process. Chows can be stinkers, but with Ivanna's patience and excellent grooming skills, we now have a Chow that loves to go see her "Bestie" Ivanna and always looks beautiful when she comes home. I give it 5 stars because Freddie was amazing! It's hard finding Good customer service nowadays so i was pleasantly surprised! He Was helpful and informative! He knew about the dog vitamins as well as where stuff was in the store and because they have hardly any carts due to theft he carried my huge bag of dog food to the front register and then out to the car and loaded it into my vehicle! I am I saltwater guy, I also have a dog but anyone can sell dog food. I always prefer Petco to Petsmart because they offer salt water aquatics and Petsmart does not. However Petco has a really bad reputation in the salt water hobby of having miserable Displays and unhealthy fish when compared to a specialty store. Tanks looked pretty clean, see pictures that I have added. It looked like somebody actually might have cared when arranging the rock formations. Although I will say that there was a very small blue tang at the bottom tank who is probably dead at this point given the state it was in when I was in yesterday. read more
