We have given Camp Bow Wow multiple chances to show us that they are a decent establishment but again and again they disappoint us. This last time was it, we are done. We boarded our 2 year old boxer for 3 days and upon bringing him home we notice some pretty deep gashes in his neck. There was still dried blood on them so clearly they happened at least the day before. There was no mention to us about them or even contact telling us he had been hurt. On top of that he lost a severe amount of weight, we told them to give him 2 cups of food twice a day, which was the amount we sent with him, and he came home with almost a full bag of food. How dare Camp Bow Wow treat an pet like they did. We will never be returning there and feel that other customers should be extremely weary of leaving their pets with Camp Bow Wow. read more

They are not capable of housing my pet because of his breed, regardless of how well trained or socialized he is. Why is prejudice frowned upon when projected upon fellow humans, but OK when humans do it against animals? Sadly, what causes the problem and created the stigma = a people problem, not a dog problem. So I stopped my dog off on Saturday around 1pm to be cared for until Sunday morning. When I was dropping her off all I heard were dogs crying and the monitors had no dogs in the play areas. I should have taken this as a sign not to leave my dog. However I used Camp Bow Wow in Temecula and they were great and the dog loved it so I dropped her off. However the staff neglected to notify me that I wouldn't be able to pick her up between 10 and 4 because they all leave. I got there just as as they were walking out, instead of providing customer service they just looked at me and told me I would have to come back at 4. Now I'm curious what I paid for? It sure wasn't for my dog to be locked up in a kennel all day, I could have done that for free at home. I will update review when I get back at four to pick her up. Ok just picked her up, fortunately she is ok. Was a little worried when they wouldn't bring her out with out me filling out a release of liability. It took me demanding my dog and telling them I won't fill out there paperwork because I will not be returning. Once she came out she couldn't wait to leave which is opposite from what she did at the Temecula location. I did ask that she be bathed as well but that obviously didn't happen as well. Over all completely unacceptable service for $44. In all I will contact corporate and hope they make things right. I absolutely would no recommend this place to anyone. I called ahead to set up my "interview" and asked about the breed restrictions. I was told my little lovely pet would be more than fine. I arrive with a less than welcoming greeting from an employee and am told they wont take her, right off the bat. My dog is a mutt, to be perfectly honest and she is the sweetest one around at that, they didn't even give her a 2nd glance. He argued with me what she was even though I could present documentation saying she was NOT a pit bull. Discriminatory against certain breeds? I'd say so...go elsewhere! I wish I can give more stars because I was super impressed by this place. We had to go out of town suddenly and couldn't bring our dog. We called and was able to get a meeting interview for our dog right away. We were able to board him that weekend and we're able to watch him on camera whenever we wanted. On our way back to pick up our dog, we were running late due to plane delays, we called and the camp and they waited for us a few minutes after closing so we can pick up our dog! Well he stayed the whole day (complimentary) and when I picked him up he received a photo certificate for getting along well with his new friends. Right from the start, the lobby is the cleanest place with the nicest people you want to meet! Then out in the boarding and play areas there is an automated thermostat for climate control and web-cams to watch your pooch. The play areas have inside/outside capabilities for your dog too. They play all day, nap, play again and sleep. I'm so happy to see Jaxson so happy from our weekend out and he even received a gleaming report card. Who does that these days!? I was looking for a pet hotel/boarding for my pug puppy since I have to leave him for a while in December. So I found this place online. I called in to ask about the pricing and I was told to come in for an interview. As a first timer, they allowed me to leave my puppy there to see how my puppy interacts with other dogs for 3 hours for free. The staffs are absolutely wonderful! One of them, in particular, is super nice and friendly (I forgot his name though). He checked my puppy from time to time but poor thing was a little nervous, so he just went outdoor and sat there for a while. This particular staff looked for my puppy outside and tried to engage him into activities with other dogs. He even filled water into a little pool for my pup, but my pup refused to get in though. At least, this staff showed an effort and cares about my nervous pup. I saw this myself from their camper cams, which is a great plus. Since I'll be gone for a month, being able to watch my pup's activity from time to time is very relieving. I know that my pup will be in good hands of pet caring people when I'm gone. The first consult was very reassuring, we took a tour of the facility, got a walk through of what my dog's day at Camp Bow Wow would entail, and met quite a few of the staff. I just recently moved to San Diego and had to go out of town for New Years. I am always worried about boarding my dog because he is more of a people dog than a dog's dog. I have never been so confused about previous negative reviews as I am about the ones written about this board and train facility. They are simply great! My Lab stayed with them last summer for four weeks while we were in Europe and we added training sessions for her during that time. She was a few months new to our home (another great rescue dog) and we felt she could use the training as well as the extra activity. We were able to keep an eye on her remotely (even in Europe!) while the dogs were in playtime and that helped me not to miss her too much! She received wonderful training sessions with Taylor and when we got home I was amazed at her progress! We recently went out of town for an impromptu weekend away and our Lab as well as our two Chihuahuas stayed at Camp Bow Wow. (The little guys were with friends last summer during vacation.). We did our initial interview day with CBW and the Chi's did very well. We were able to watch all three dogs again remotely and they were definitely having fun. One of my Chi's is 11 years old and not as active, so he even hung out on the laps of some of the staff while we were gone! I believe that this facility is one of the cleanest, most organized places I have ever taken my fur kids! The staff is always friendly, welcoming and very eager to hear about any special needs, meds, diet and so forth to help make your dog's stay a positive one. If you have ever experienced a TRULY abysmal boarding kennel as we have, things like pick up times and collars wouldn't even hit your radar screen as being a "horrible" experience! I will NEVER board here again! This place is very unprofessional from the staff to the way they handle the dogs there. I thought that it would be a nice place to put my dog for a couple weeks, while I was on a vacation. It had good reviews, and the cameras were a nice touch. I was on it all the time. It was odd they only let them out for a couple hours, then back in their kennels for a couple hours, and so on. I checked in almost all day, every day. I noticed that their food was not out, it is only in their kennels. It is on a "eat between these times or starve" it seemed. My pet does not eat on command, and probably did not eat when they fed her. I was worried that it would affect her. But I assumed they fed her at another time since she was taken out randomly through out the day by herself. This was not the case. First off, they have you sign a paper saying if something happens to your pet, they are allowed to take them to the vet. I signed this saying it was okay. It is now 10 days into the vacation, they call leaving a message at 5 am saying my pet has diarrhea. So I call them back, they say that is all they have noticed, but they will keep an eye out. I asked if she was eating, and otherwise fine, they said yes. I said if anything happens, take her to the vet ASAP! They said yes, we have that on your file that you say it is okay to take her if anything should happen. The guy who I was speaking with was very unprofessional, almost casual and unaware that I am clearly upset that my animal is sick, and I am 2,000 miles away. The next day they call me at 5 am again and leave me a message on my phone saying that she has diarrhea still, she is lethargic, and she has pale gums, we think she should go to the vet, what should we do? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!?!? I signed the paper, VERBALLY told you, and you still want to ask me if it is OK that you take my CLEARLY sick animal to the vet. Unbelievable. So I call them back within minutes in a hurry, saying yes take her in!! They say okay, well the girl that will take her in doesn't come in for another 4 hours. She will take her once she gets in. REALLY. Animal is clearly in some sort of trouble, and lets just wait for the girl to come in. So she comes in, takes her to the vet, and they come to the conclusion that it was stress induced diarrhea, and possible the food they fed her. So it took 10 DAYS to set in stress and a food issue? I doubt that. They took her back with medicine that they did not properly administer to her, since when I picked her up, she was given to me with her meds, at least one of the two. Which they neglected to give me the other medicine that she got. I had to drive back the 30 minutes to pick it up from the camp bow wow. I get home, look at the meds, and see that the dosage is off. They skipped giving it to her for 2 times. It is obvious this place does not care about the animals they look after for owners. I will NEVER do business with this establishment ever again. Totally and completely unacceptable. I only noticed that she was probably starved like I mentioned in the beginning of my post because when I went to pick her up she was lethargic looking, and sad. I took her home, and fed her the chicken and rice bland diet the vet recommended. She scarfed it down, and when I went to get her to slow down, she growled at me. She has never, ever done this before. Not even close. I looked it up, and it says this is only something that happens when they fear when their next meal is coming and fear that it will be taken away. I could not believe that people would do this to an animal. They should all be arrested for ANIMAL CRUELTY!!!! This place is a disgrace! Oh forgot, I was also sent home with a vet bill of $250 in addition to the boarding stay. This place is gross. read more

Camp Bow Wow was referred to us by my husband's co-worker. We were looking for a new daycare to take our dog to as she kept getting Giardia at the place we were taking her at the time. It's right next to my husband's work so we thought we'd give it a try. Staff was great, place is clean and our dog made a new best friend. She's now so excited every time we drop her off. We got a second dog last Oct and weren't hesitant in taking our new pup there as well. The dogs love Camp Bow Wow and the staff loves our dogs, couldn't ask for anything better. All the dogs are split up between 3 different rooms, each with both an indoor and outdoor play area. They also have cams so you can check up on them throughout the day. Camp Bow Wow was very accommodating and had us come in the day before boarding for the interview and trial at doggie day camp. From the start, you could tell how much the employees loved dogs. I watched her initial trial and after about 10 minutes, I was free to leave for work. I was a bit nervous, since it was the first time boarding, but they've got a great app with live cameras where you can watch your pup playing. Every time I tuned in to watch, there were employees supervising and playing with the dogs, while others were cleaning the play areas not being used. It was very reassuring to see how clean everything was kept. Our dog was happy and pooped after a day playing with her new buddies! We got a great report on her day and were cleared to bring her the next day for boarding. She spent 3 nights and we paid a bit extra for a bath on the last day. We picked her up clean, happy and worn out from all the fun! They give you a report on her activities and behavior, too. I'm so glad we found this place and will definitely use when we need boarding again. I have called to speak with someone about getting my puppy personal in home training twice now first on Saturday and they took all my info and dogs info because the trainer was not in on the weekend they said he or she would call me back Monday . Understood it's the weekend okay cool . Come Monday no call so I call back on Tuesday and the trainer was in a class I believe so I was told she would call me back soon to arrange the training session . It's not Friday and I have yet to receive a call . They really are outstanding here. My two energetic boxer puppies, Dakota and Samiya (ages 9 months and 5 months), are so excited to arrive that I can hardly get them out of the car and leashed fast enough. They practically drag me to the door. The staff knows them both by name, and seem thrilled to see them. And the puppies are always happy and tired when I pick them up - they fall asleep in the car on the way home (a rarity). I have to agree with some of the low reviews on here regarding their acceptance of dogs. I have never see a company be so restrictive on which dogs are allowed for daycare. My dog is great with other dogs but can be a bit difficult with people he doesn't know initially. The employee that I spoke to made it clear that Camp Bow Wow wasn't the right place for him. They weren't rude or anything but it was just disappointing to hear that they weren't willing to give my dog a chance. The good news is, there's a number of dog daycares and boarding in the area that are much more accepting. Molly from Camp Run a Mutt was beyond accommodating and accepting of my dog. I was Camp Bow Wow's biggest fan until visiting this particular location. This was our third CBW and completely disappointed with El Cajon's staff. Seven days into our vacation I was checking webcam app and couldn't find him. When I finally decided to call to see what was going on, I was given the awful news that he was involved in a fight. Even though our dog didn't initiate the fight, he was only allowed out of his kennel for potty breaks. My first concern was that they didn't even bother to call and inform us what had happen. Lazy and disrespectful. When we dropped off for boarding, I specifically told them to call my fiance or myself in any emergency or issues. Already disappointed and upset, when we went to go pick him up, he had cuts and scraps ALL over him (face, chest, shoulders, front legs and ear)! I couldn't believe it. And to top it off, the so-called manager does nothing but talk in circles to cover their ass. I will take my dog to CBW and will never recommend any location to anyone ever again. read more

Checked our dog in on a Thursday picked him up on Monday. Over those few days we seldom saw our dog on camera. When we picked up our dog he was very timid. When we got home home he would cry when we tried to pick him up and curl into a ball. He went straight under the bed would not come out when calling his name. As new users of Camp Bow Wow in El Cajon I can only give a review of the "first time" process. We have a 10 yr old female of a breed that is very separation anxiety prone. The Bow Wow interview process and available day camp special package is allowing us to get both pet and owner used to this new exciting environment. First a free walk-in invitation for the human partner to come and visit the Camp during normal working hours with all the warts that might be present that day. Then a request for an interview is submitted online which gained a phone response the same day to schedule a pet interview so the trained staff can evaluate potential safety and aggression issues for all concerned. The interview was in 3 phases: (1) Dog & owner met one on one with Director to test "stranger reactions" (5-7 min) (2) Dog enters Camp area and meets one on one with a same size/sex dog in the large open area under direct control of two staff members which then grows by adding an opposite sex same size dog to the group then once my pet was socializing with the 2 dogs and 2 staff members additional dogs were entered into the area one at a time until about 8-10 were mingling and checking out the new girl on campus (5-10 min) (3) Once the Director gives the okay my dog was admitted to Camp and experienced the normal routine for the remainder of the day. This included free play time, kennel time, outdoor area time, napping on the couch time and 'yodeling' according to her end of day written report card. (time varies, ours was about 6 hours) My participation in these 3 interview phases was to hold on-leash during phase 1 as the Director smoothly did her dog whisperer magic, then I stayed in the lobby and monitored phase 2 on the TV/computer monitors and finally I went off to work and play with the ability to watch various area camera feeds via the Camp Bow Wow webcams during phase 3. My camper came home with a report card noting good and other trends and actions documented by the staff. Also in my checkout package was a coupon to allow me to schedule 3 day camp days (full) and get a groomer's bath for a very reasonable price. This will allow my dog to learn and become comfortable with the scheduled routine of Camp, spend time with the many different trained staff members and socialize with many different campers. I decided to use my coupon one day per week to get this acclimation process ingrained with minimum stress. Our goal over the next month is to have a dog ready to spend a week at overnight Camp with as little anxiety as possible, know that she is safe and in very competent hands and be able to monitor her activity from anywhere via the webcam system. I should have written a review a long time ago. These guys are awesome. They have individual kennels for nap time and feeding time, and then they have three large yards for play time. Kennels are all different sizes depending on the size of your dog and how many dogs you want to house in one kennel. The dogs are separated by size in the yards, and each yard has an indoor and an outdoor area. From what I remember, no toys are allowed in the yard during play time to discourage fighting, and the dogs are constantly supervised by someone INSIDE the yard at all times. I used to send my own dog here years ago- as far back as 2008-2009, and their service hasn't changed a bit. We ran into a bit of a boarding emergency situation last weekend when a pet sitter bailed on a friend's dog. Camp Bow Wow was incredibly accommodating (we worked mainly with Alex, who was awesome), took us in on a weekend and allowed the dog to have his interview on Monday (he did stay kenneled until then, totally reasonable). The facility is clean, well-lit, and well-ventilated. They will do whatever feeding you ask, and even supply a peanut butter Kong for nap time if ok'd by the owner. Oh, and the best part is, they have "Camper Cams" on which you are able to watch your dog while he's out in the play yards. I believe Camp Bow Wow is all over the US. I will never take my dogs anywhere else. A couple of tips: -Do the interview process with this place before you need to board. They basically give you a free day where the dog is allowed to stay all day, and the employees test the dog to see if he can have play time with other dogs. This process is done on weekdays only, so plan ahead. -Vaccinations required are pretty standard. Rabies: 1-3 years, Distemper and Parvo (some sort of combination and usually shows up on records as DHPP or DHP2) 1 year, and Bordetella every 6 months. Make sure that your vet knows to update your records to remind you for the 6 month bordetella. That was almost an issue for us this weekend. Camp Bow Wow and the great staff have been part of our family for the last five years. Our dog Zoe started out at Camp Bow Wow as a timid rescue dog that had not been socialized properly and was abused. The counselors and staff at Camp Bow Wow took her in with open arms and really helped her adjust to her new life as the queen of our home! I cannot say enough about the staff at Camp Bow Wow.
