After taking some time to reflect on my experiences with the practice as a whole, I ultimately felt…read morethat 2 stars was the most honest reflection of my experience. I respect Dr. Hovanetz, and I'm grateful for the care she has given Momo and Chloe over the years. She has been kind and compassionate toward them, and I've appreciated her willingness to listen to my concerns and answer my questions. I also want to give a special mention to Jessica at the front desk, who has been an absolute sweetheart every single time I've walked through the door. She has consistently been kind, helpful, welcoming, and a pleasure to interact with. Unfortunately, there have been experiences over the years that affected my confidence in the practice. During one visit, Chloe was still very anxious and needed to be sedated again because the initial dose was not enough. While the technician was checking whether she was sedated enough, the exam room door was repeatedly slammed, which I found especially upsetting given her already heightened anxiety and the fact that she was in the process of being sedated. More recently, I had serious concerns about how Momo's care was being handled. Momo was diagnosed with suspected Tritrichomonas and prescribed a very high dose of metronidazole before we even had the PCR results. The medication was handed to my husband without instructions, and I was alarmed by the dosage prescribed by the veterinarian who saw Momo. That same day, when my husband asked a staff member why there wasn't a specific form authorizing an X-ray to be performed without the owner present, especially since he had been asked to sign an authorization form related to anesthesia, he was told, "I don't know, I just work here." I reached out to Dr. Hovanetz for clarification. My husband was given the liquid form at 200 mg twice a day while we waited for the tablet version from the online pharmacy, which had been prescribed at an even higher dose of 250 mg twice a day. Both doses struck me as very high, and the fact that the tablet prescription called for an even higher dosage made the whole situation even more confusing. My husband was not warned about the potential neurological side effects, which I only knew about because my other cat had previously taken metronidazole. Had I not questioned it, I could have potentially given her an unnecessary and very high dose of medication for a condition that had not even been confirmed, potentially exposing her to neurological side effects that could have been temporary or, in some cases, permanent. Dr. Hovanetz took the time to review my concerns and told me that if I was uncomfortable giving it, I could wait for the PCR results, and that she would have waited for the results herself as well. She also explained that if Momo did have Tritrichomonas, she would have prescribed a different medication. I appreciated her willingness to discuss everything with me and take over Momo's care. I never ended up giving Momo the medication, and her stool returned to normal within about a week with supportive care and supplements alone. The situation with Momo was ultimately the one that most significantly affected my trust in the practice and led me to decide that it was time to move on. For me, feeling comfortable with a practice long term means knowing that my cats will receive consistent care regardless of which veterinarian or staff member they see. Having a veterinarian I respect is important to me, but I also need to feel that same level of confidence in the practice as a whole. Unfortunately, I no longer felt that way. Even though we're moving on, I'm still grateful for the positive experiences I've had with Dr. Hovanetz and Jessica. They deserve recognition for the ways they have made a positive impression on me and my cats over the years. Thank you.
