We wanted a quiet place, where we could rest and take a load off. Man! Did we ever find a hidden gem! The owners were super nice, as well as the seasonal folks who took us for a quick cart ride to see the Fallen Rock. This year, we wanted to get away for 10 days over the 4th of July weekend. We didn't think long before we remembered how much we loved this campground! They were so accommodating! We had the same spot of our one=night visit last year. We met many more of the seasonal folks, and their dogs (we brought ours with us this time!) We have already make a reservation to go in the fall next year for the covered bridge festival. In closing, this is the nicest, cleanest park we have stayed at to date. The owners have obviously put their hearts into this place. They feel like family. Oh, and they put on a fireworks shows that rivals the ones in DC!

It's a state forest, no pool for the kiddies, but there are miles and miles of decent low and high…read moreeffort trails. It's pristine, clean, decent and clean restrooms (when they get around to adding the TP), and although the roads are in bad shape in many places, it's a fine spot for forest bathing. Your cellphone might not work in some parts of it. Put it away. If you simply must, go to the top of most hills. There are no gas stations or stores within ten miles in any direction; bring the stuff you need for your visit. In the summer, the amount of oxygen you can get here is almost overwhelmingly delicious. There are playgrounds, picnic tables, and shelters, and hundreds of places for a picnic on a blanket/rug. There are insects; remember your bug spray and tick repellent. Enjoy. It's FREE.

This state forest has two of my favorite longer day hikes within an hour of Indianapolis; The Low…read moreGap Trail and The Three Lakes Trail. The Tecumseh Trail also runs through MMSF. In the last few years, a nice bike trail has been paved in and a new office built. There are also backcountry camping sites for primitive camping-be site to check in and practice leave no trace! The park does not have a lot of state park like amenities so be prepared to use a pit toilet. Bring your own tp and hand sanitizer just in case! The hikes are fairly challenging due to length and have some good hills. Bring plenty of water and keep an eye out for wildlife. Rattlesnakes have been spotted in the area. Hunting is also allowed in the state forest so wear bright colors at all times just in case. If you're looking for a challenging hike that is not overly populated but not totally isolated Morgan Monroe State Forest is an excellent choice.

The campgrounds are excellent, especially Taylor Ridge. But be aware that you need to make reservations ahead of time, especially if you are planning a fall camping trip. Campsites sell out early. Shower rooms are decent, not wonderful. But satisfactory for a campground. Quiet hours are strictly observed, and the park rangers will pay a visit to your campsite if you aren't quiet after 10:00 pm Once we received a visit from a friendly park ranger when we were playing cards around 11 pm. We hadn't realized that we were being noisy at all but the ranger advised us that sound carries throughout the campground. Hiking trails range from easy to moderate. Trail maps are available are the trails are well marked. You will likely see deer and raccoons when hiking the trails. Some members of our group enjoy mountain biking too.

Ten stars! Twenty stars! All the stars for this Jellystone Park. I'm not even exaggerating -- this…read moreplace is great. First of all, you have to understand one thing about me: I hate camping. Like, seriously, camping just sucks. But here, at Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Lake Monroe, I actually kind of enjoy camping a tiny bit, because of these reasons: 1. They offer cabins! And they're super clean! And they come with full refrigerators, and TVs with cable, and full bathrooms with showers inside. And screened porches where you can relax on a summer's evening without having to worry about swatting away mosquitos. 2. They offer a full day's worth of activities for the whole family. When you check in, they give you a long paper that they've printed that lists all the fun they've planned for the time period that you're staying, broken down by the hour. So you can choose to participate in any number of family-friendly activities, like water balloon races, or bubble activities, or crafts, or water gun things. Every morning, you can meet up with Cindy Bear and do some stretches and say the pledge of allegiance. Kids love this stuff! This campground really caters to kids and families. Also, there are dozens of high school- and college-aged kids who work there who are constantly supervising and will start up random games of Simon Says or Red Light, Green Light with kids. 3. Besides the planned activities, this place has an amazing splashground and two pools. The splashground is like a splash pad and water park rolled into one: there are slides, bubblers, sprinklers and the like, with beach chairs around the water area. Next to the splashground is the playground and sandbox, which is where my kids spent a lot of time playing. 4. There's lots of other stuff to do, like hiking (we found lots of geodes!), or you can rent a go cart or golf cart and drive around, or play volleyball or basketball, or jump on the Jump Pillow, or mine for fossils, or play a board game in the recreation room, or get a scoop of ice cream at the Ranger Center. There is seriously so much to do here. I should also note that the people who work here are so friendly and will bend over backward to accommodate you. They are also super chill and totally used to kids being kids, so we felt completely comfortable during our whole stay. I can't say enough positive things about Jellystone Park. We had such a great experience, especially my kids, which is why I suffer through things like camping in the first place. We will definitely be back!

We had a good experience with the staff at the office, the bathroom/shower was nice, but as with any campground a mess towards the end of the day. I did see that they cleaned the shower area but with all the traffic in and out I realize it would be hard to keep clean and some kids/campers are inconsiderate. The weekend we was there was full but evenings were quiet. Being on the river we did have to contend with preteens walking through your campsite to get to the river, which I blame on no camping etiquette, lol

Lots people from Indy area come here. Having golf cart would be nice & they do rent them. We always bring our own drinking water & only use site water for showers flushing. (Some bad reviews complained about water) Kids 3rd grade and shouldn't have any trouble swimming in quarry, It's loaded with inflatable to climb. Water is very calm to tube. I can see Thursday night place started filling & people were beginning to let there hair down. If your seasoned camper you won't be let down.

There is a great pond to walk around that offers catch-and-release fishing, great playgrounds, a nice swimming pool, and lots of room for the kids to play. The bathroom and shower are nice and clean! When I made my reservations, I had to do some revising and they were so accommodating. While I asked for a pull-thru, I did take a back-in spot and they had someone spot for me. I would have liked a 50amp and sewer hookup, but again, I needed to make changes. They offer both RV and tent sites. The tent sites are in their own section, a nice green grassy area! If you decide to stay here, I found that a 30amp will run one of my A/Cs just fine and because of all the shady, I really only needed the one A/C. I did need to have my tanks dumped while I was there. They offer a dump service so I didn't need to move my RV nor even be there. It was a nominal fee compared to the savings from a full hook-up site!

The weather? Absolutely perfect. Pretty sure someone pulled a few strings upstairs, because it was the kind of weather that makes you suspicious. ("Okay, who ordered the deluxe sunshine package?" ) Cheeky perks: * So peaceful you can actually hear yourself think... which is slightly terrifying if you travel with teenagers. * The views are so pretty you'll forget all about your Netflix queue. * Campfires taste 37% better here -- don't ask us why, it's science. We'll definitely be back -- unless the weather fairy calls in sick.

Our site was a pull through about 75 feet long, but no sewer. Beautifully maintained facility and a bargain at $30. Trees, squirrels, birds singing, a nice playground and enough lawn in the center for a NFL team to practice. Many seasonal sites surrounded by trees. And really nice owners who have their own big rig and understand the business. They have only owned the place for a few years and said it was a sorry affair when they bought it. Well it's nice now and will be spectacular given a bit of time. Bravo!

Are you kidding me?…read more 15 minutes north of Indy, right off I69. Nature! Water! Camping! Cabins! Fishing! Kayaking! Close to Deer Creek Music Center (or whatever they call it now?) But really..... the attraction is the ownership and employees. These folks actually CARE about your stay and your experience! (Such a rare commodity these days!) Can't recommend this place enough! I highly suggest a long weekend.. ("StayCation") if you are local. And if you are in town for a concert, sporting event or just a visit..... you would be hard pressed to find a better option!
