We tried a free art class here and I got to sit in the class. The teacher was very patient and taught her to first draw each line curve etc then they used oil pastels to color, next they used water paint to paint, then they used clay to make dirt. Our trial class is the excavator picture you see. We were very amazed at how much she learned in that one session. We enrolled her immediately. There are multiple make up sessions throughout the week if you need to miss your regularly scheduled class for vacation etc and option to do one on one make up class as last resort as well. We love the staff here and know she'll be in good hands and learn more of her passion here. There's multiple classes going on at the same time based on different art class levels. I've seen kids make sushi with different color clays etc and I've seen kids sketching when I'm pick up or dropping off my daughter so there's definitely lots to learn. I can see why happy Picasso is so popular around here after trying it out myself. When my daughter turns 7 and if she's interested, they also offer digital art class which will be useful for her in the future as well. Teachers here are very patient with the students. You walk into a large naturally lit lobby, with local event flyers and news on display, as well as Millbrae branded merch (hats, shirts, etc) for sale. There is a reception desk with staff there to help and answer any questions. I came specifically to pick up a custom SF Giants Kleenex box that I ordered at the recent Millbrae Art & Wine Festival. We were greeted by Laurie, who was very friendly and told us all about what they had to offer at the Rec. Center. Just behind some glass doors near the lobby, is a game room. This is mostly targeted towards kids, with a giant TV and various video game systems to play with. We saw around a dozen kids hanging and playing in this area as we walked by. As you continue down on the first floor, there are classrooms, conference rooms, and even a giant hall that can be rented in full (or half) for private events! They also have a kitchen connected, which is helpful for events serving food. There are several clean and accessible bathrooms, as well as lots of fun historic photos on display. They have a Fitness Center with various equipment, and space for aerobic classes. There's also a room dedicated entirely to Ping Pong! If you get hungry or thirsty, there are two vending machines with drinks and snacks, and several water fountain/refill stations throughout. There is also an entire upstairs area. In addition to private rooms, there is a "Senior Lounge" which has comfortable seating, a large TV, and a half-kitchen. There is an outdoor patio connected up top with over a dozen lounge type chairs to enjoy some fresh air. They also have space for outdoor activities for people of all ages. There are multiple playgrounds for kids, in addition to multiple tennis courts and a large field. The Rec. Department also oversees many other fields (school and other) and a skate park, according to their website! If you live in (or near) Millbrae, you gotta check out this Rec. Center! There is a ton to do, it's super bright and clean, and the staff is all very friendly and welcoming! I'm looking forward to coming back again and utilizing some of these amazing features!

I especially appreciate that the instructors provide hands-on guidance to help kids through each activity instead of just letting them wander and explore on their own. For toddlers and preschoolers, I personally preferred The Little Gym over some nearby gymnastics programs that seem geared more toward older kids. It's also reassuring that some instructors appear to have been there for years, which feels like a good sign. The birthday parties were easy and low-stress. We dropped off food and decorations ahead of time, and the staff handled setup, led the kids through activities, and served food very efficiently. Pricing also felt reasonable compared to some other party venues. Having Mountain Mike's Pizza right next door was an added bonus for party food and convenience. The main downside is that weekend preschool morning classes can be difficult to get into because they fill up quickly. Otherwise, we've really loved our experiences at The Little Gym!

It can feel a little overwhelming when you first arrive if you haven't been there before. Having people walk in, with their own helmets, acting like they own the place will have anyone unsure where they should go or do when they first arrive. The staff make it feel very welcoming and friendly. After I finished check-in, I felt like the people with their own helmet. Tyrez helped me at check-in. He was patient, professional and friendly. When I say patient, I mean PATIENT! I had four kids with me and when it came to head covers alone, he got everyone what they needed even though I had to prompt the kids multiple times to come to a decision. We got there, but it was rough and Tyrez was amazing throughout! He even explained everything to me so that I wouldn't be caught off guard by anything and wouldn't end up frustrated...or at least that is how it felt. Next, know this. When they are running adult races, it's loud in the track area. Because I work safety, I have my watch set to alarm me when the sound exceeds the OSHA permissible exposure limit. It went off a lot. So, I measured the sound. It can get above 100 decibels. That's loud. Not as loud as a rock concert or fire truck siren, but it will make it difficult to have a conversation. You may want to consider ear plugs...or ear buds with noise canceling. The races are run very efficiently and they alternate between youth and adult groups. One safety feature the do great is that they are never on the track, together, at the same time. Safety seemed like it was well managed. When impacts happen, they throttle down the carts, to ensure everything is safe. One note though...and I see this as a huge positive...they let you RACE! Yes, they pay attention and focus on safety, but they don't scold or stop because of a little inadvertent contact. I was truly impressed by the balance they maintain there. In my group of four, two were a little scared and didn't race all the races we purchased (I bought the SpeedPass for each and it seems like a really good package for first timers), but they were amazing at helping me re-assign them to the others in our group. Luis helped me there and again, he was patient with me and helped ensure we got everything transferred correctly. He also answered all 5,000 of my questions throughout our visit. No, not really 5,000, but there were a lot. He was amazing! If I had any criticism at all, it would be for the game area. Many of their games weren't working because of a network error. It was disappointing for me, but it hit the kids hard. They should have someone dedicated to that area as it was never empty while we were there. I would imagine that having all working correctly would result in increased revenue. Overall, we had an amazing adventure there today and Tyrez and Luis were part of the reason why. Their track team was the other part...I just wasn't able to get their names. If you're looking for a new adventure, this is an amazing way to spend a Saturday!!!

The kids worked collaboratively to collect samples from the bay and even got to look at plankton under a microscope. The Quail Trail itself was beautiful and straightforward, even though it was a really hot day and I was definitely sweating! But the views were stunning. Just a heads-up though, we saw some poison oak with reddish leaves, so be careful not to stray off the path. It's a fantastic park, highly recommended, especially if you're planning a picnic.
