Back porch of cottage # 6.
    Cathy R.

5 Stars for Nancy, Best Customer Service ever! Coloma Cottages is a private resort on the river. There are a few different cottages you can rent, we were in # 6 Riverhaus. Two days prior to arriving you will receive an email with current info on how to check in. You will basically text the manager, Nancy, 30 minutes prior to arrival to get your code for the security gates. Once you enter she will be there to greet you and get you settled in. The Riverhaus is a 2 bedroom, 1 bath cottage. You have a front porch under the roof with a couple of benches. There is a living room with a couch (pulls out to a bed), a fully stocked kitchen of pots, pans, utensils, plates, etc. The kitchen counter has seating for 2, but there is no actually dining table inside. The bedrooms are small but have comfortable beds, and the bathroom has a small counter so there is not a lot of room for stuff. Great water pressure though! There is an a/c unit in the living room and TV's but no service. There is Roku in the bedroom and DVD's and VHS tapes to watch in the living room. Good wifi thoughout. There is a small back porch with a table and 4 chairs to eat at and it has an umbrella. There is normally a charcoal BBQ that you can use, however because of the fire risk being high we were not able to BBQ. There is also a laundry room on site if you are staying longer term. You are on the river, and there is some access, though it is rocky, no beach area Positives: *Nancy! She is wonderful, super great personality and always willing to help *Kitchen has lots of items in it, I did not feel like I was missing anything *Beds and pillows were comfortable *Great water pressure Could have been better: *We did not know about the not being able to use the BBQ so we spent money on charcoal and food and then could not use it. I wish the email sent out 2 days prior had told us this. Thank you Nancy for providing excellent customer service, you are a blessing!

Love going to Coloma cottages to get a little mini getaway from the city and reality! I have stayed in all of the cottages and go at least a few times a year and all the cottages are very comfortable and they have everything stocked that you will be needing for your entire stay. You can get your groceries right there in placerville only 20 minutes away! Many different wildlife around and on the property! Danika and Nancy are amazing at accommodating with you at anything you need during your stay! There's so many things you can do while on your stay at Coloma cottages like gold mining, fishing, river rafting during the summer, and many different little trails and cool little old cemeteries! My kids enjoy going every time it never gets old for them! This is my #1 go to spot for my mini getaways and always will be!!very clean cottages inside and out always sanitized before you arrive!

This is the second time my family and I have stayed at this amazing little spot. The hosts are as polite and hospitable as it gets! I am very critical when it comes to house cleaning and was again very thankful that so much effort was put into cleaning. This is a spot we intend to visit every year!

A few cottages located near the river in a "summer camp" type setting. Cottage appeared to be freshly painted and was in good repair, but had a slight musty smell (which is not uncommon for an older cottage in a rural setting). Since neighboring properties are private, hiking is limited to a nearby state park. It does allow dogs which is why we chose it. View was of owners storage and parking, river is not visible. Stay was ok, but guests should be warned of owners policies. Here are some photos of her house handbook. Which include many potential fines that can total over $1000. Fines are for silly things like cooking bacon. Stay was OK, but guests should be knowledgeable. I've never encountered anything like this in many years of travel across the US and abroad in much nicer places lol. We are a professional family of 5 adults, so the only fine we incurred was late check in. Despite paying extra for 5 person occupancy, beds are unmade and insufficient towels. (This was stated in the manual which you receive after booking.) We were also forced to pay for a guest that may be stopping by in advance or owner would not give the gate code. It was refunded after departure once they observed our guest didn't arrive. The only place I've ever been charge a guest fee is at an all inclusive resort and it was when my guest arrived, not in advance. This was by far least welcoming place my family has ever stayed in. Host did leave a bottle of wine, so I guess all is well. It's an OK place to stay, but I feel guests should know what they are dealing with prior to booking.

Our son was turning one month and that is exactly what we were looking for, a couple of days away from the busy city life. We didn't want noises of cars driving by, people roaming the streets and having conversations outside of your bedroom window. I came across this place while surfing airbnb and we couldn't have been any happier that we found it. Briana was a great host! She gave me a call within a few hours of me booking the place online. She advised me that it would be smart to have all of my grocery shopping done prior to arriving at Casa Bella Verde as there are no stores in the immediate area and she also advised me of the unpaved road that is leading up to the house when you turn off the main road. Having the knowledge of these things was very helpful. The "guest house" that you stay in has everything that you might need to have a weekend (or even longer) of relaxation. The guest house is very modern with the amenities one might need and not need. We were particularly fans of the jacuzzi hot tub which is big enough to fit 4 adults. We enjoyed having our morning coffee on the deck which has some amazing views. As a host, we couldn't have asked for a better one. When we got there she did a walk through with us to explain to us on how all of the gadgets work (everything is very high tech.) The fridge was stocked with eggs, some english muffins, and orange juice. As we were making dinner we realized we forgot olive oil and balsamic, I had asked Briana is she by chance had any and without a doubt she did. Within a couple of minutes of me asking I was able to walk over to the main house and there was what we had asked for on the kitchen counter. Thank you for everything Briana and I look forward to seeing you again in the near future.

Nikki was very sweet on the phone and my family was very excited about our 5 day stay on the American River. When we arrived the first thing we noticed was the river is about a 100 yards downhill from the cottage. I was a little dissappointed about that. The next thing that we noticed was that the cemetary is about 6 feet from the master bedroom window... we knew about the cemetary, but didn't realize that this was the view from the master bedroom. One thing that I didn't take note of, was the fact that there is no T.V. upstairs or internet access. While there is a T.V. downstairs, it just plays vcr and dvd's. The downstairs is also almost impossible to heat without getting the upstairs too hot. The t.v. room does have a small stove type electric heater, but it doesn't heat the lower bedroom at all. My daughter and grandson had to sleep on the futon so they would not freeze all night. My guess is that the downstairs will stay nice and cool in the summer months. Now the best part... there is a rooster right below the master bedroom and it starts to crow way before sunrise. Usually it starts up at 5:00 a.m. and crows until 7:00 a.m., this was very disturbing and we all hated it. The chickens are cute, but the rooster should be moved from this relaxing vacation rental. The property is very pretty and the river is also very pretty. We were told about the bakery/coffee shop down the road, but when we got there, it had a sign "closed until January 4th". This cabin would be great if all you want to do is read books and relax in the winter months. I would probably be back in the summer when there is actually something to do.

Outside, the kids had great fun roaming the property and playing by the river. They also enjoyed the chickens and duck, which Nikki even let them feed. This is a beautiful place to relax and have some quiet family time without the noise of the city. I greatly enjoy that there is only a TV downstairs, because we wanted a quiet environment, free of electronics when we vacation. I went to the front desk four separate times during normal business hours and never once found it open. When we went to the front office, there was still no one available. We also encountered other guests actively searching for staff and unable to find anyone, which makes it clear this isn't an isolated issue. The lack of basic amenities was also disappointing--there is no WiFi or laundry on-site. While the location is beautiful, it seems to be the main reason this place stays in business, as the customer service and amenities do not meet expectations. The bathrooms were acceptable, but the shower pressure was extremely low, which made it difficult to use--especially for anyone with thick or textured hair.

None of the…read morethings that apparently happened to the negative reviewer happened to my 12 year old daughter, her 70 year old grandmother and I when we stayed there in June of 2013. The cabin was pristene. My mother in law is a stickler for cleanliness (like way, way overboard) and I was nervous about this but she was delighted with the accommodations. The hot tub was crystal clear when we arrived (by the way, I am pool and spa certified, nationally, and you never change the water between uses or guests... that is ridiculous. That is what chlorine, bromine and filtration systems are for. The grounds were so secluded and private, we never saw another soul (except for the horses on the adjacent pasture and a few deer). There simply wasn't a single thing lacking. The owner called us once, just after we arrived, to ask if there was anything we had wished was provided or that we forgot to bring, and to wish us a happy stay (as well as for my daughter to come up and feed the horses if she would like). We never heard from her again. The price was unbelievable for what you get. Like, I thought there must be some mistake. And deposit/cleaning was simply not an issue. I do tend to pride myself on tidying up any place I stay on vacation, as I myself have occupied the thankless (and well under-tipped) profession of cleaning up after people who wrongly believe that they can make as big a mess as they want simply because 'someone else is paid to do that'. Someone else is paid to scrub the toilet and wash the floor, strip, wash and replace the linens and wipe away all traces of your visit. They are not expecting to heavily scrub after a careless trail of filth. I've never had a deposit withheld. Perhaps it's a good rule of thumb to tidy up after yourself. I loved Walker's Cabin - so much that a conversation more than three years after my stay with a couple gal friends prompted me to look it up and see if it is still available for rent. I would do it all over again in a heartbeat - and for me, that includes round-trip flights from Seattle and a decent drive in a rental car. Absolutely worth it.

He doesn't gloss over things -- he knows how important the details in the fine print are! From the beginning of our search, Casey was honest about the fact that the core of his knowledge and experience was in homes (rather than land), which we appreciated. But we stuck with him because he was obviously committed to working hard and because he came with a glowing recommendation from a friend. The only reason I didn't give all 5 stars was that, at times, Casey was difficult to reach or slow to get back to us. That's probably because he has healthy boundaries between work and his time off -- something we should all strive for, to be honest. (We're city slickers, so we can only hope to get to that point someday.) But in the end, we're super happy with the land we bought and are happy to know that Casey is our advocate and friend. Then the places he showed me seemed to be the bottom of the barrel with none of the elements I asked for. Since I've looked at this area before while prices were high, and now was shopping with more money, it struck me as odd that all he could show me was stuff that looked unlivable unless I went to a higher range. I never even got to see the area I wanted. I had come to see Nevada City and Grass Valley, but once we were on the road he informed me those weren't his areas, that I would need to meet with a co-worker to see those areas if I wanted- but I only had the one day in town. When I did find a place I was very interested in, he promised to do the research and get back to me, but even after several calls and emails, he never did. I don't know if I just somehow fell through the cracks or what, but it was a disappointing waste of my time and money.
