I recently visited the shady loop campground site 1 at Union valley reservoir, the camp hosts Terrie and John were not following the rules and would only enforce rules onto certain people. When I arrived on the night of the 24th of July my campground, as-well as the other campgrounds were filthy and I didn't see anyone cleaning them the entire time we were there. On July 25th After some other campers left rather than doing their job and cleaning up and putting out the leftover fire, one of the camp hosts John instead walked down from his campsite and yelled at another camper to put out his fire as-well as all the other smoldering fires before leaving (4+ fire pits around him), he made no effort to do his job or clean up the campsites and left them dirty for the next campers. They told us we could not have a fire on the morning of July 25th while they told all others who came in they could not have a fire on the next day but could have fire that day, until fire restrictions were actually officially in place on July 26th. On the night of the 25th at 22:00 he came out of his camp and stood in the darkness beside his camp and began to threaten me for having a small fire, saying "You better put that fire out soon" "I didn't tell you you could have have a fire" "If you don't put it out soon I will damn well do it for you". He also sounded intoxicated. This was after watching all of my neighbors start a fire and also watching one of the host himself building a fire.(This was blatant discrimination aswell as haramsment). I watched him allow his dog/s to roam free off leash both in and out of the campground as-well as the roadways and other campers un-neutered large dogs roaming, but they would go on to tell us to keep our dog on leash. (which is understandable because it's the rules but if the camp hosts are flagrantly disobeying their own rules it's hard for others to take them or the rules seriously) you cannot pick and choose rules to follow yourself when you're there to enforce them. Also many campers did not follow the quiet time rules and kept playing music drinking, screaming and yelling. The camp hosts did not patrol the camp at night at night to enforce the rules and rarely enforced the rules period. We had a group of people who rented camp site 3 and 5 who came out at 00:00 on the morning of July 26th to start drinking whiskey and beer while smoking cannabis from a bong, playing music, and joking about profanely inappropriate vulgarities, (one of the very classy lady's said her ideal Friday night would be "one with white gold and sucking d***.") this went on until 03:00 when they finally went to bed. It was the same situation the night before. This was happening directly across from the host and I know they were aware. Also the camp host has at least 8 tents set up in his campsite (also against the rules and is a fire hazard, tents are very flammable.) and I believe he is renting them out on something like air bnb for additional personal profit he is also crowding more then the allowed limit of people and tents into his site.He seems more interested in tie dying T-shirts and his VW Beetle rather than his job. The garbages were overflowing as well as filthy toilets and bathrooms. This campground and the camp host need to be investigated, they are not upholding the standards that I came to know from the Royal elk. I was honestly appalled at my last visit and by the camp hosts and will not be returning.

The roads might needs a fix but this is site 70 next to the vault bathroom

The camp sites are good sizes and are clean - very well kept. I agree that the vault toilets are smelly - but what can you expect? Fairly quiet during the day and at night can be a bit noisy depending on what kind of neighbors you have. However, out of our last 6 trips we only experienced 1 rowdy/party neighbor. Very scenic and calm camp ground. We love it.

However, we were yelled at for no reason by this old lady with braided grey hair. She was so cranky, you would have thought we personally parked in her driveway! Anyway, she cussed out a minor in the family, giving this passive aggressive tone the whole time. We were just waiting for a family member to use the bathroom. She didn't believe us and started recording us immediately! When we were all together finally, she said "unbelievable". What?! It's unbelievable someone returned the way you were told they'd be? How is that unbelievable, lady?! She also cussed out this pair, and shooed them off in a really rude way when they were just trying to scan the QR code for the app to reserve a spot! Do you want visitors, or not, lady? They should call her Cranky McGee!! Geez Louise!!! The people who were here last year were MUCH nicer!!!

Although they do have a small ghost town, ice shop and food you can enjoy. They also have horses you can ride, I believe some sort of kids club and a pool. The bathrooms looked like they needed a little updating. In my opinion the property needed to have a little up dated. They also have a few cabins, tent camping and RV camping. The Ghost Ranch also does a presentation to buy into their "" timeshare. We however did not p purchase it. The staff is amazing as we pulled up April was happy to help us with what ever we needed. Brain did an amazing job talk to us about the presentation for the time share but it was just not for us. If you have kids this maybe a place to check out. It just wasn't a place for us.

WiFi was extremely HORRIBLE. Even in club house it was spotty 4. If ordering food, bring cash or you will have to walk to the check in station to use your CC 5. Clubhouse had a bar with no liquor or beer. it was being used for storage space. 6. could not pick up local over the air channels 7. campground was not the cleanest and seemed old. Nothing like what is shown on the website Conclusion: If we paid for this weekend stay, i would have been highly upset. Dont let the website video's and photo's fool you. I would never pay to come to this place. Glad we got it free from our purshase of a new RV. Stay for the presentation and collect the $200. Brian was okay to listen to about the CR membership perks. $10k is not worth it for us as we are only weekend campers. Do your homework before booking. I would call them directly instead of trusting the website. 2.5(barely) out of 5 stars.

We enjoyed how shady this area was, & how large this area was for our group. We were able to place 5 tents in this area, two tents which were large tents for families of 6. Each site has a fire pit, picnic table, is near a rinse of station and bathrooms. There are bathrooms and well maintained but they are the definition of out houses. Bring a flash light at night as there is no lights inside. No showers here. The trail to the water is not to long, id say its half a mile, very do-able if your not bringing much or have little ones. If you dont take the trail, you can always drive 3 minutes down the road to the boat launching area & park there for a day by the reservoir. The parking fee there is $10 in cash. By the water it's very rocky, so do bring good water shoes. There was a bear cub that roamed this campground, the host let is know it has been around since April , and that there hasn't been sight of momma bear since, meaning either momma bear abandoned him or was left behind, he really doesn't want anything to do with human interaction according to them. From our experience he comes around mostly in broad day light and not at night but still kept us on our toes especially because our group had littles ones. This is the only reason I am ranking this campground to be a 4/5 stars.

That said boats in the lake are limited to 5mph and this was not enforced. The noise and waves from (slow, yet motorized) boats, and the music from their speakers compromised our experience of being immersed in nature. 2. DISPERSED CAMPING: we were planning on dispersed camping but absolutely couldn't find a good spot! We tried different dirt roads according to the official description but gave up. 3. CAMPGROUND: we ended up camping at Stumpy Meadows campground. The host, Dexter, was wonderful. However, the campground is sloped and the campsites are not well designed. Also, the campground may be remote but it isn't quiet. While located in a beautiful forest, it is close to the road and we kept hearing noise of fast driving trucks. Bottom line- next time we drive to a remote lake we'll look for a quieter lake with better camping options.

Cons: Bathroom always stink (the ones closer to the beach the worse it is), no tp (almost 85% of the time) so bring your own. Parking sucks. Day use people take over parking for those who actually camp. Showers: $3for 3 min and additional 20sec for each quarter. Hosts: We had some new ones this year. In the beginning they were phenomenal. Assisted us in many ways and were always nice greeting us. After the weekend, one got roust and rude, throwing a fit about our campers and saying we have left a mess on the beach and need to take ALL our items off the beach. This was not us! Our family respect the beach and always keep it tidy at the end of the day. The day use people over the weekend made a mess and they assumed it was us and came out accusing our group. This is not professional in the least bit and rules should not be made up on the fly. Appreciated Ed (one of the hosts) clarifying some rules and regulations and made sure we all left happy.
