I've been coming here since I was a kid, almost every year for the gold rush reenactment. They have done lots of work, some is good, and some, not so much. I guess the old store burned down, which is shame because the new store has none of the charm, and about a tenth of items, as the old store. There used to be way more little nicknacks and kitchy camping gifts and things. They also got rid of the chicken coop and the little old west town. All the old facades of blacksmith shop, banks and hotels are gone. Not a single place to take corny old times photos and that's a shame. On the positive side, they have expanded a lot! Where a ropes course used to be they now have all sorts of lodging options. There are little cabins, glamping tents, bunk houses, a full cottage with deck, tent spots, rv spots and even two covered wagons. It is not cheap, but they have really cleaned up the property and we saw the crew cleaning leafs and taking trash constantly. It's right in Coloma on the American River, so you really can't be the location. It will get cold in the winter, but that doesn't stop people from rafting.

Been in this river several times, but to the resort itself- we had a wonderful time! On our first night, we slept with no beddings which we should have been told. Walmart is about 17 mins fr the resort but its okay. Support after hours are through text only, in which they are very responsive

We visit this place annually. The bridge you drive over before turning into the resort is a bit sketchy, but it's no problem if you take it slow. As of June, the resort has been making some nice renovations. The front gate is being upgraded to a nice decorative metal one with cobble stone accents. The old store in front of the gate where you check-in has been demolished. The new store for check-in is the white building to your left after driving through the gate. This resort parallels the American river, which is nice for fishing and other water activities. If the river isn't your thing, they have a swimming pool. The resort gives you a sense of feeling like you're in the Forrest. You can find some slower water to play in down towards the end of the resort where tent camping is located. I took a short video of the area and posted it in the photos. They have RV sites, tent camping and cabin camping. They offer a variety of different size sites and some sites can accommodate rigs up to 45'. If you select a river site, one thing to note is no sewer hookups. There is one dump station locate next to the general store. If you want full hookups, you need to select any site other than the river side. I believe everything is 30amp, so don't forget your adapters for 50amp people. Each site has a metal fire ring and a wooden picnic table. The cabins are nice. If you're looking for something a little different and kind of cool, they offer wagon rentals. The wagons have been converted into overnight rooms. They have also built some nice new cabins towards the top tier. There are two playgrounds. One is next to the swimming pool and the other is near the end by the tent camping. There is a small grass area on the top tier with two small soccer goals. There is also a child size chess set located near the front of the resort in the outdoor recreational area. If you want shaved ice or ice cream, they converted a small airstream into a little parlor. It is called The Silver Bullet. A couple things to note. River sites are probably the most difficult availability. One thing Coloma resort does that is pretty cool is give priority to re-book for the following year. So, if you rent a specific site and like it, you can rent the same site for the same dates the following year. You would need to book immediately at the end of your trip. If you do not, they will open up the spot to the general public.

This was the location we chose for our inaugural camping trip in our new camper, and we've returned twice - all within April to August. The grounds are impeccable maintained and absolutely gorgeous. Be sure to snag a riverfront spot - the sunsets will blow your mind. There are staff members everywhere zipping around on golf carts tending to cabins, campsites, and common areas (i.e. bathrooms, pool, social areas). This campground runs like a machine and it shows! Everyone is SUPER FREAKIN FRIENDLY and all of our neighbors we've met each time were lovely and seemed so happy to be there. The ONLY thing we wish we could change is the check-in time. Currently set at 3pm, it seems a bit late considering check-out is at 11am. 5 stars, though. We will always camp @ Coloma Resort!

Wading just feet away from our tent

First time campers here. We camped in a tent space right on the river with direct access to a beautiful spot with clean, shallow water to wade and safely swim in. The bank is lined with beautiful blackberry bushes. The resort was very nice, quiet, well maintained and had nice, clean bathrooms. The grassy area has the most relaxing and beautiful view. It was a peaceful spot to drink tea and watch deer walking on the bank. Fun for our kid and our dog, too!

We had a fantastic stay at Coloma resort right before Thanksgiving. So much so that I booked two return trips before we even left. Every staff member I ran into or conversed with was super helpful and friendly. The grounds are kept very clean. There are tent and RV sites and the most adorable cabins. Spaces are decently sized and the surroundings are just gorgeous. I highly recommend the riverside sites if you don't mind only electric and water and if you can manage to find an open date!

A top 5 for sure! This place is wonderful. Nothing better than hearing the river as you drift off. Great for bringing pets. You'll see deer and other wildlife. No full hookup but they have an easy accessible dump station. This place is 100% worth it!

Two days prior to arriving you will receive an email with current info on how to check in. You will basically text the manager, Nancy, 30 minutes prior to arrival to get your code for the security gates. Once you enter she will be there to greet you and get you settled in. The Riverhaus is a 2 bedroom, 1 bath cottage. You have a front porch under the roof with a couple of benches. There is a living room with a couch (pulls out to a bed), a fully stocked kitchen of pots, pans, utensils, plates, etc. The kitchen counter has seating for 2, but there is no actually dining table inside. The bedrooms are small but have comfortable beds, and the bathroom has a small counter so there is not a lot of room for stuff. Great water pressure though! There is an a/c unit in the living room and TV's but no service. There is Roku in the bedroom and DVD's and VHS tapes to watch in the living room. Good wifi thoughout. There is a small back porch with a table and 4 chairs to eat at and it has an umbrella. There is normally a charcoal BBQ that you can use, however because of the fire risk being high we were not able to BBQ. There is also a laundry room on site if you are staying longer term. You are on the river, and there is some access, though it is rocky, no beach area Positives: *Nancy! They will charge $50 more per person. We had a little one with us and we were charged $50 more per night. (And yes, they will meet you at check-in to make sure you don't bring extra people!) Our cottage had a queen bed and a sofa bed. Presumably with the extra charge, we would have been given enough towels and linen for 3. Nope. There were towels for 2. And the sofa bed was a bare mattress with a throw without a sheet. We didn't complain since we brought our own linen. Despite being charged a cleaning fee of $50, know that you will still need to haul all of your trash to a trash bin 50 - 100 feet of your cottage. As other Yelpers have mentioned, the place is tired and old: filthy floors, dusty baseboards, tight shower knobs, weak AC, broken porch light... The deck didn't have the nice furniture that was in the photos. Yes, it's river front but getting down to the river is treacherous with many jagged rocks and makeshift steps - exercise caution with kids and elderly. There are no banks, just jagged rocks. We were here in April and it is very, very buggy - lots of mosquitoes and big flying bugs were found in the house every night. Just one screen door. No screens on any of the windows or front door. Beware - they are sticklers with checking out. We left the cottage on time but decided to take a few last minute photos near the river. After paying $2000 for 2 cottages for 3 nights, we were charged - after Danika / Sherry gave us a discount - an additional $25 for not having left the premises on time! We would not recommend this place and certainly will not be visiting again.
