The cathedral of football, especially since 2006! Whether you love this beautiful game and appreciate all of the intricate details about technical skill and tactics, or whether you are semi-interested in football and are considering whether or not to pay for the price of admission, let me just tell you: a trip to Barcelona is incomplete without a visit to the Camp Nou. Sit back and take in the sights, from the beautiful structure that is the stadium, to the different generations of Catalans all around you waving their flags and showing appreciation for their world class players. While your watching the game, notice that at the 17th minute of the first and second halves the crowd will suddenly start chanting. Note that this is a chant for "independence", so peaceful that you dont even notice it is unrelated to the game at hand, but instead in regards to the current affairs in Spain and Catalunya, and in keeping with tradition with the history of the club, of being "Mes Que in Club" (more than a club). Notice the slogan inscribed on the second level, another symbol that is associated with the club's expression of their political view. I noticed at the 21st minute you'll hear another timed chant, but not sure what this one was about. These two chants are in addition to the scattered chants and support you will hear throughout the game. While watching and hearing the Chants and celebrations, be sure to appreciate that this current team will, in the near and distant future, be considered one of the best teams EVER, having won every single competition they participated in in 2008-2009. While having similar although not identical success from 2009-2012, the 2012-2013 team of this season consists of the main key players, with an array of talented reinforcements to fill in for those few who have moved on to different clubs. The main/key players being Xavier, Iniesta, Messi, Pedro, Busquets, Puyol, Piqué (shakira's boyfriend), Alves, Adriano, Valdez.( one of my favorites David Villa is one of the best strikers in the world, but rumors of a falling out with Messi and the fact that he is being played as a winger rather than a forward might be cause for him to be sold to another club soon)
To sum up, go check out a game, or at the minimum check out the museum. Very peaceful experience, no violence or rowdiness so I would highly recommend bringing kids or other family members. read more
