As an OPWDD family, coordinating approvals, support brokerage, and Fiscal Intermediary (FI) requirements can already be extremely time-consuming, and navigating those systems often causes significant delays that are outside a family's control. I was hoping for greater flexibility and collaboration during the enrollment process, but instead felt that the process became increasingly difficult and ultimately decided not to move forward. I appreciate the importance of ensuring campers are a good fit, but I believe families navigating complex disability-service systems would benefit from more understanding, clear communication, and flexibility throughout the admissions process.

I had seen some postings and some information about 2021 and thought that while there were some drawbacks, it was important to get my son out of the house and doing something for the summer. He has been sitting around too long and I want him doing more. When looking around, there were numerous other camps in the area and other kinds of programs, but when I had seen what greeley offered to what the price would be especially compared to the other programs, I thought that it would have been a steal. I jumped on the offer for a 2 week session and luckily everything worked out. Greeley was great, the people were very welcoming and worked with the kids very well and my son made a number of new friends which is the bonus to him being up and moving.

The kids were mean and cursed during the week and the camp did not address it. When I reported it to the camp directors (Mat and Rose), they never responded to my email. The many activities that were shown on the video were not available (the ropes course for example) due to being understaffed. My son actively disliked his experience. I will also say that this director responded to my review on google within 12 hours of my posting but as a parent I emailed and didn't hear anything for more than two weeks. This Director clearly cares more about image than actual responsiveness to parents or the camper experience. In fact, I am still waiting on a response to my email. We were not told in advance about activities being closed, and we were assured that although there were Covid staffing issues there would be enough staff to run a great camp. This was not my son's experience. There are many awesome camps out there and parents should know that the directors are unresponsive except to reviews.

Less than 24 hours after arriving, he asked us to pick him up because he no longer felt safe remaining at camp. His decision was based on the combination of several experiences during his first day and night, including conversations about firearms among campers assigned to his cabin, a public display of intimate behavior in a common area without apparent staff intervention, inadequate bathroom and shower privacy, apparent inconsistencies with the camp's medication procedures, repeated nighttime disturbances, and what were periods without appropriate adult supervision. The following morning, we met with camp leadership and decided to withdraw him after only one night. What disappointed us most was what happened afterward. We submitted a detailed formal complaint, but Camp Mason's written response did not meaningfully address the concerns we raised regarding supervision, facilities, medication procedures, or the overall circumstances that led our son to feel unsafe. The camp also declined to reconsider its decision regarding our refund request. Every family will have its own experience, but ours fell far short of what we expected from a YMCA overnight camp.
