We sent our child here for 2 years and were thoroughly disappointed. It's a $40k year public school. Here's a breakdown of the pros and cons: Pros: -slightly more advance curriculum than an ordinary public school but in-line with any other private school Cons: -embarrassingly underfunded, they ask you to bring your own supplies (including disinfecting wipes) at the beginning of the year -location, it's in Foxboro which only makes sense if you live in Foxboro -staff completely lacks diversity -after care programs are a joke, the photography club involved almost exclusively drawing pictures -also, they accept anyone who applies. There are several smart kids at the school but anyone average will make the cut. -the Head of School, simply put, there is something wrong with this woman. She's abrasive and rude to certain parents for no reason at all. The school will better with her gone.

It isn't forced upon them and that was something I loved when I went- I became a strong independent learner which helped me through college and into my career. They…read morepride themselves on their amazing teachers, when in actuality majority of them do not know what they are doing because they were never trained. I was given an outdated manual that does not teach children correctly and none of the materials that should go along with curriculum. It would ask me to take out certain math materials for a lesson and when I asked where I could get these materials, my supervisor said "oh we don't have those, just make your own." The admin is a complete mess and does not help teachers. When I started out along with three other first year teachers, multiple teachers who had been there for years say they hate the school and want to leave but cannot find another job. Never mind that the school is rooted in Scientology. The curriculum was written by the same person that created Scientology. When you ask them if they are affiliated with Scientology they will say no. However, in the front lobby of the school they have "The Way to Happiness" books for anyone to take. Books written by L. Ron Hubbard, founder of Scientology. I decided to leave the school when I saw their "reading" program. They do not teach children to read they teach them to memorize. This old practice of memorizing words has been debunked as the correct way to teach reading. Phonics is scientifically proven to be the best way to teach children how to read. They did not teach phonics and when I asked about it they told me they do not teach that because they do not believe in it. By using this strategy of memorization is harms students and creates bad habits that will be hard to break in the future. I had a parent during a conference tell me they want their child to learn phonics and they do not believe this is the right way to learning how to read and I had to lie to them and tell them this was correct because I was being monitored by admin during my conferences. I also had to lie to a parent and tell them their child was doing well when they couldn't write their name. Please I beg you not to put your child in this school. I know the class sizes are very tempting and they will woo you in so many ways, but it's a trap. They will not teach your child. Many of the teachers there are not certified, which even though it is legal, they will not get the instruction they need to be successful. If you don't believe me listen to the podcast "sold a story" about the problem we have.

We entered our girls into Thacher in the upper elementary school (grades 4-6) this past fall. While…read moreone of our daughters is having a very positive experience, our other daughter has been having a less positive one. She has dyslexia along with some other learning issues, which we made very clear to the school during our application. Her teacher, Amy Smith, seems both unwilling and unable to work with students who don't learn in the normal fashion. Amy has been very difficult to work with: she doesn't communicate well and she doesn't follow through on things she says she'll do. With the exception of one administrator, the school has been completely unsupportive of us and our issues. We will be withdrawing both our daughters from the school next year. I would recommend Thacher upper grades for students who are bright, quick, and self-motivated learners. If your child isn't all of those, I would highly discourage you from choosing Thacher. Certainly if you run into problems, you won't find support from the administration. We were warned by a family who had a very similar issue last year. Their daughter was also dyslexic, also had Amy Smith, and also had a horrible experience with the administration. They withdrew their daughter mid-year (forfeiting their tuition) because their daughter was so miserable.

The facilities are amazing…read more Classrooms are large, bright, and well stocked and the kids also have access to a gym, auditorium, and a great playground out back. Coming from a city daycare that was housed in a storefront, we couldn't believe how much space our kids had to run around - rain or shine, they get plenty of activity every day. But more important than the space, what makes this place really great are the teachers and staff - they are truly exceptional. Many have been on staff for 10+ years, and they are all caring, dedicated educators. Everyone from the classroom teachers, to the front office staff, to the handyman knows our kids and says hello to them when we arrive. The teachers come up with the best ideas for projects, and give the kids a great foundation for kindergarten. They also have a great sense for how to help kids with individual issues they are working on. For example, we had a difficult transition last fall, big move, new home, new job and new daycare all at once. My then-3-year-old was overwhelmed and scared to go to her new classroom, which her teachers picked up on immediately. They started giving her "special jobs" like taking attendance and handing out snacks. I realized they were encouraging (but not forcing) her to socialize with the other kids, and as a result, she quickly made friends and adjusted to her new school. Within a week, she loved school and looked forward to going. Last but not least, I love the community service component of NCSC. There is an active parents' group that raises money for special events at the school, and NCSC also has a number of programs dedicated to helping low-income families, teen parents, and the elderly. It makes for a very inclusive atmosphere, infused with exactly the kind of values I hope to instill in my kids. I realize this is starting to sound more like a marketing pitch than an honest review, but I assure you, we are a real family who really love NCSC. We've been at 4 daycares before this one, and NCSC is leaps and bounds above the rest.

I have sent both of my children to FA for the past few years.
