My husband said back in the day when he was younger, this joint used to be called Carousel Mall…read more It was a happenin joint. And that they have one of the prettiest carousels here. While visiting Liverpool, we made a stop here to see it. And to see what else this mall offers. This mall is half open and half closed. You'll find your major retail stores here of course. There are a lot of comic book/novelty stores here which is cool. It is a really big mall and you can tell they are struggling to fill the empty stores. It is quite nice that they have Hobby Lobby here. Dicks and Burlington, it's a one stop shop. I will have to say, they do have a dope food court. They also have a seafood boil restaurant and a Japanese steakhouse. I wish I would have known sooner about both restaurants, I would have love to eaten there. I tried to snag a mochi donut but they were completely out. Total bummer. After checking out a couple stores, we did make our way to the carousel. The carousel is so pretty. I love the detail and the passion that was used to make this magical machine. The colors, the flowers, the cherubs, it's all perfection. I appreciate the detailing of the reigns on each horse, the flowers decorating them and the craftsmanship. The carousel is completely stunning. And I'm happy I got to see it. It would have been that much sweeter if I could have ridden the carousel but it was closed. The mall itself is your typical mall. I'm sure you'll find what you need. The food court does look legit so if I lived here, I would eat here often. I am happy I got to see the beautiful carousel. It is a work of art and the story behind it makes it that much more amazing.

Not to be confused with Amoury Square, which is full of love, rather than old buildings…read more This is surprisingly but unequivocally one of the most beautiful town squares in the country (not in winter). Syracuse downtown is extremely underrated (not in winter) and it's absolutely gorgeous (not in winter), and if you should ever have the chance to wander around here (not in winter) and check out the incredible beauty of this city (not in winter), this is probably where you should start (but not in winter). The establishments range from low brow to high class with college kid meat markets like Daisy Dukes to some pretty serious eats like Pascale's and Lemon Grass. Late night the close the street to traffic so you can make the stumble to your next bar. A number of the food places are open late (I would seriously suggest Nick's Tomato Pie) and in the summer, the Night's in Syracuse are perfect for out door drinking. If you want a good beer, Blue Tusk is your place. A ton of beer on tap plus outdoor seating. Awful Al's is a cigar bar and one of the few places in Upstate New York that allows indoor smoking. Empire Brewery brews their own and generally has some pretty good music. Syracuse Suds Factory also brews their own, though not quite as good as Empire, however the large space and lack of crowds tends to make this my default starting spot for a night out.

The Pittsford Wegmans and Calkins Pittsford are the larger cleaner and fancier ones around. Right across from the wegmans there's this plaza called Pittsford Plaza that includes an upscale steak house called Blue and Black, a pizza shop, a cafe for sandwiches/coffee, a J Crew Warehouse, Carter's, Michael's, Barnes and Noble, Swim school, Trader Joes, and a bunch of other little shops all int he same parking lot. For moms looking for a place to take their young children in and out and hanging out, this is the place to go to! The parking lot isn't dangerous like the Costco parking lot or the East Ave Wegmans (VERY dangerous). The shoppers aren't aggressive and are friendly. The crowd is safe and overall happy. Right across from this plaza there's even a Taichi Bubble tea, prometric, URMC Urgent Care, and a bunch of other upscale restaurants.

Even the venerated Eastview mall has a few empty slots. Meanwhile, things are going great @ Pittsford Plaza. Trader Joe's & the new J Crew Factory are packing them in, doing a land office business.
