Restaurants in walking distance. Good bed and quiet for a great sleep experience. Be aware of an extra $50 charge on credit card that takes up to 5 days to fall off. Must be a security deposit. Complaint Hello. I really don't know where to start as the service I received was unbelievable. I've contemplated on writing this review several times, but with the service I received I couldn't help but let someone know, so that other customers won't have to experience this. Check in date was April 23 2025, when we arrived no one was at the front desk, we waited nearly 30 minutes for someone to arrive at desk to check us in. Remind you, we drive from Fort Lauderdale Florida, so all we wanted was to get checked in to rest. When we arrived in our room, the internet, WIFI connection was not working and we had to call the front desk for assistance, although the front desk receptionist was helpful, again we were tired and just wanted to unwind and watch TV, it took nearly took over 1 hour to get the WIFI/INTERNET connected to the TV. Then after we finally get that resolved, we showered, and when we attempted to close our bedroom door for privacy from our daughter we found that our bedroom door did not close, or lock. We then called the front desk back for assistance, remind you it now 11pm at night, we were told that our room could be moved. Who wants to move to another room after just getting settled in at 11pm at night??? So I immediately requested the hotel manager. We then spoke to Patrick Williams, if RUDE WERE A PERSON IT WOULD BE PATRICK WILLIAMS! After having to plead our case, we asked how would we be accommodated? He then stated being that since the hotel is not accommodating to us apparently Sonesta suites is not the hotel for us & we have the option to leave . That was not the answer I was willing accept, I demanded we be accommodated and be refunded for one nights stay, Patrick reluctantly agreed. Asking for service upon arrival & working door, should be included in the cost of over $500 right which was my original stay cost?? How nice was that comment for guest that traveled over 250 miles to stay at your hotel?? The refund for one night, I'm thankful. The rudeness is worth all of my money back! I would have gladly accepted the refund and moved on with my weekend, but the nasty, disrespectful attitude was not called for and I could not be silent about that. How do you expect to have reoccurring customers with a nasty attitude like that coming from the general manager?? Unbelievable! Not to mention, the second day of stay, the bathroom caddy with the soaps fell off the shower wall . The kitchen cabinets are worn out and old, definitely needs an upgrade. Picture frame on the wall had no picture & Drug addicts, infested the hotel.The stay was a nightmare and I will NEVER lay my head at this place again. The only reason I stayed is because I was scared of loosing money. We work very hard for our money. The hotel online pictures and hotel reviewd are all lies!!The whole experience was a disaster. I demand to receive a FULL refund for the entire cost of my stay totaling $352.51. There will be a review listed on google reviews and yelp. I suggest you fix this and make it right. Not impressed overall. There is no housekeeping, even the promised once a week. There is never anyone at the front desk, so when your card isn't working you have to wait for forever or come back another time and hope someone is there. It's marginally clean but incredibly loud at all hours. At one point the theater next door used all the parking spaces and people were parking on the grass. We stayed at this property several times in the past month. It is clean and relatively quiet - considering it is right net to a very busy street (49th St N). If you have a choice - I would choose a room closer to the elevator - since there is only one elevator on one side of the building. The rooms were large with a cook top and a full size fridge. The only breakfast option was coffee - VERY strong coffee. There is a Circle K right across the street - use the crosswalk - it is much safer. read more

Hotel was clean. Staff was nice, including on the phone when we booked. We checked in expecting a one bedroom suite with a pull out sofa. Once we checked in, Heidi at the front desk saw the 2 kids and offered us another queen bed instead of the couch, this was very nice of her and worked out well. Even with the extra bed in the living room, there was a lot of space! Kitchen was fully stocked with utensils in the dishwasher and plenty of towels in the kitchen and bathroom. Bed was comfortable, pool was open, no breakfast, wifi worked well, and there are additional items available to borrow by the front desk too (i.e. crockpot, blender, games, etc). We borrowed a 500 piece puzzle and were surprised not a single piece was missing! We did stay on the side of the hotel closest to 49th, I'm a light sleeper and this kept me up a little. Also, the ac is in the living room with a 10-12" hole with a fan that blows in the bedroom (on the side of the tv-make sure to open up all the way by spinning the small dial/knob; open/fastest fan setting is right before it clicks to off). So we found that the bedroom would be warm and the living room freezing if the bedroom door was shut. Other than that, pretty nice location and comfortable stay. read more

I booked a single night for my bestie who was swinging by on Christmas for a 24 hour visit and can't be more pleased. I would recommend it to anyone and will definitely put my own visitors up there. 3 stars and I'm being generous... First time staying at a Candlewood Suites hotel. It was just a ok. This wasn't my original choice and or location for our stay in early March 2020. IHG hotels in Clearwater Beach plus Dunedin were either booked up or way overpriced. First week in March is very popular down here. With snowbirds and baseball fans all over the area. That being said, we stayed in a extended stay room and had a queen sized bed. It looked like a studio apartment. The kitchen area had a stove, dishwasher and regular sized fridge. They don't have daily housekeeping at this brand hotel. After a few days we just took our used towels down to the front desk and swapped them out. Front office staff is very friendly. A decent sized outdoor heated pool hit the spot after seeing sights. A plus is two barbecue grills are available next to the pool area. This hotel is in a industrial part of Clearwater. But is easy on your wallet. read more

Candlewood Suites is part of IHG which operates several hotel chains that includes Holiday Inn (Express) and that they are pet friendly this was (is) important because I would be traveling with Vino and prefer to have him with me than in a kennel. After an extremely long and exhausting drive walked in and found that they still had availability for the posted rate and we quickly got started. The keys to room # 121 were given and quickly noticed that there is a noise issue. This room sits across the hall from the service counter so you will hear conversations quite clearly, the attendants carts going up and down the hall is annoying and children very excited to go to the pool can be heard through the door all too well. The only reason I would recommend this room is if you were hard of hearing or are a serious creeper that wants to know what is going on all of the time while looking through your peephole ? After an hour of this brought it to clerks attention and they offered to move me to another floor the next two nights were in # 322 on the third floor which was very quiet. Fine print : * Use a credit card when checking in. If you use a debit they will put hold on your account that could take up to 10 days to release. * There is a pet charge, this is not listed on the corporate web page it simply states that they are "pet friendly". * The fee is $15.00 for the first night and $10.00 for each additional night not to exceed $150.00 per stay. You will be asked to fill out a "care card" should there be any problems or in the worst case scenario the vet needs to be called. What will you get for your dollar here - * The room is large enough that two people wouldn't be stepping on one another. * The kitchen has a full size microwave, refrigerator and dishwasher. * If you are in need of a stove top there are two flat top burners that work on a timer as not to burn the place down. * Other amenities, two big gas grills are available and the front desk will even loan you the spatulas and tongs ya might need for your cookout. * Did you forgot to pack a blender or crockpot you may borrow one along with a movie. * A gym is available as well as an office center. I stayed here for more than a week and found it to be very quiet and clean. You do have to realize that you dont get daily maid service but you can get fresh towels at the desk. I appreciated having dishes and utensils available during my stay. The desk was very helpful in getting the same nightly rate for extending my stay. I like walking past the desk to get to my room jic I need anything. I did notice that the elevator was out of compliance by a couple of months which is definitely concerning. Otherwise I would definitely recommend this hotel. Add to that the fact that the peanut mobile stayed here two nights. Any place thats good enough for Mr Peanut is good enough for me! read more

I am staying at this location for training with my company. The room was a little musty, but clean. The elevator scared me to death because it makes some questionable noises. You're probably wondering why I am giving 5 stars still? The customer service here is EXCEPTIONAL! The front desk personnel are truly so polite and personable that I considered pulling up a seat and hanging out with them. There is a little "store" downstairs where you can purchase items with the honor system and they have a pretty good amount of things to grab quick if needed. There are laundry facilities and a nice little gym. I am not sure if they have a pool, because I don't have time or the desire to swim (I live in FL, so pools don't excite me as much) :) Cons: musty smell in room and halls, elevator is potential death trap Pros: Super comfy bed, full sized fridge, cooktop, dishwasher, and microwave, plenty of storage, nice spacious room, nice flatscreen TV with HDMI plug in (firestick!), staff members are AMAZING and I would definitely stay here again simply because I appreciate people who do such a great job! Customer service and the service/hospitality industry is extremely hard and it is so easy to burn out, so it is amazing to see these employees that truly seem to value guests and seem to enjoy their jobs! This place has its pros and cons. It is cheap... so it invites some less desirable folks in... wow... that makes me sound prude, arrogant and snobbish, but that is not the intention. With that said, there seem to be a lot more smokers than the average Hilton / Marriott hotels I stay at. This may be non smoking but I can tell that either someone smoked in the room or someone down the hall does thereby capturing the ambience of stale cigarette smoke. Nothing like waking up in the middle of the night feeling like you went to a dive bar. There is no maid service for 7 days... which may be an issue for some, but I am fine with that considering I am not a fan of people entering my room without me being present... or for that matter, when I am there. You may have heard about my smoke rant, but apparently smell is a big deal in my book. There is no breakfast so people have to make food in thrir room... I get it. But I can also tell that someone has been cooking with grease next door, as it is lingering in the room and ingrained in the bedding. I personally don't like smelling like Dennys. I wouldn't be surprised if the person before me did as well. This is obviously not the fault of the hotel, but if the items in the panty were cheaper, they may opt for Oatmeal instead? Who knows... just speculation on my part. As far as service, most of the time, I am not greeted coming or leaving. The Asian kid, Owen Kim, however has always been very polite. A black lady that I complained the smell too was also very prompt to come up and deodorize the room. This masked the smell temporarily so it smelled like floral grease for an hour or so. The gym seems to have enough equipment to do more than the minimum so that is commendable. The TV in the room has seen better days as the screen is pretty dark. Besides a little steam cleaning of the carpets, the room is not bad, especially with the super long desk. read more

Overall, this is a very nice, family- and pet-friendly hotel. The staff is very friendly and they are always available. The front desk is open 24hrs a day, as is a combination workout room, laundry area, and small "honor system" convenience store. The convenience store includes frozen meals and chips/snacks and drinks which can be made there or in your room. The room also has a fridge, stovetop, and silverware (your basic small kitchen). The only drawback for us was that since the hotel is pet-friendly, we felt like our room smelled like wet dog when we first entered. There was a window we could open slightly, so that helped to air out the room a bit. As a couple traveling for the first time without our baby boy, I would've preferred something a little fancier, but I could definitely see us staying here another time if we brought him with us, since we wouldn't have to worry too much about disturbing others. read more

Stayed here March 2016 for Business was confirmed for 2 nights. Upon Arrival: Great location for my business stay, check in staff was excellent. Not sure of her name but she was pleasant and explained everything clearly. Room was clean at first sight and spacious but smelled stale. Settled into my room and went to workout. Upon returning from workout I found a little friend (baby roach) crawling in the sink. I took that as ok, this is FL this one little thing won't be much of an issue. I'm a Chicagoan I can handle this. After attempting to settle in and still unable to sleep, I went into the bathroom only to notice 3 more baby roaches on the towel that I had left laying down from when I showered and one more on the sink. This then turned into give me a hell no..(Stone Cold Steve Austen voice). Left my room proceeded to go downstairs, at this time there was a man on duty whom basically was a little nonchalant about the issue as if this happens often. He offered to comp my room for the one night find me another hotel in which only that night would be paid for, but my company would be on the hook for the other night regardless of the fact that I was scheduled to be at this hotel with the rest of my traveling party for two nights. The other offer was to go back to room with the baby roaches until the morning when a new room would be available and I would then swap. However, I would need to either leave my bags in a coworker room or make sure if I'm not able to get pick up my room keys before housekeeping leaves(which is at 4). So that if upon inspection it's not OK it can be taken care of. This was lackluster service by any means. The night duty clerk didn't even attempt to call a manager or try and find something to even make me want to stay in the room. Needless to say, due to this lackluster customer service after calling my travel departments after hour hotline. I was then able to move down the street to the comfy Courtyard Marriott. We were told that my one half night would be comped, however we could not get it on some sort of official letterhead. The clerk typed out a letter and signed it. Needless to say, after going upstairs to pack. I saw another unstable creature crawling on the table and that confirmed I couldn't spend another minute in that room. Spending my first night in Clearwater moving to another hotel during the 1AM hours of the morning wasn't my idea of a good time. Hotel amenities get 3 stars. Free washing, drying and washing products. The little friends and lackluster respond to those little friends knocks it down to 2 stars. Since they don't have standard housekeeping you have to bring your sheets and towels down to the front desk in exchange for new ones. read more

We were on a very long 10 day trip between Tennessee and Florida with a 1 year old... you get where I'm going with this... exhausting! We stayed at Candlewood our last few days in Florida and I was beyond impressed! Parking lot was newly sealed, lobby was clean, desk associate was amazing and explained everything clearly. Remember that part about being a 10 day trip across 2 states? Oh yea... and with a 1 year old? Guess I left out the part that we came from California... when the desk associate said they supply laundry facilities on site for use (you just have to purchase your own soap) I just about kissed the ground this guy walks on. I was amazed all over again! That means I can go back to California with virtually no dirty clothes?!? Yay! The room has a mini-kitchen (which I loved all over again just for the real size refrigerator and the ice maker!) that meant we could save drinks, snacks and milk for the baby! Room was very comfortable, bed was so comfy even the baby slept through the night. From the second I walked in the door I felt warm, comfy and ready to relax. Just sad this isn't a trip we usually take so I could just have a home away from home. (P.S. - we stayed at a very expensive name brand resort in Orlando... maybe you've heard of them... well anyways- Candlewood blew them out of the Magical Kingdom! Worst Candlewood Suites in the IHG family and I've stayed at several across the country. First night, no ice machine (understandable since refrigerators have ice makers. However, several guest complained that their ice machine was non-operable as well. On day 3 of our stay, ice finally appeared (all of 8 cubes) which had mold on most of the cubes. I was happy to forward my dated photos to IHG Corporate. Beware, this facility does not have safes in the rooms. Even though we clearly posted no service needed, our room was entered on a daily. Yes, we were totally relieved of my several pieces of jewelry and pieces of our wardrobe on the very last evening of the 2 week stay. SInce we had packed our lugguge prior to going to dinner, we never thought to recheck our luggage prior to departure for check-out. I hope the cleaning service enjoy my black diamond wedding band and matching earrings, along with all my silver pieces from abroad. Thank goodness for insurance. The last straw.... Upon check out, I go to use my credit card and Candlewood Suites not only have the final charge of the additional 2 days posted, but an additional $360 pending, which continued to be pending on my credit card for 3 business days after checkout. When I called Candlewood to inquiry why I had two charges, their response, "your charges are finalized, there isn't anything pending from this end." I made the trip back to the facility two days later when I realized the charges was still pending on the online banking app. Candlewood response once I showed the clerk the charges pending on the on-line banking app, "its your bank, not us". At this point, I called my bank while standing in the lobby. The bank contacted Candlewood while I was on hold and the "pending charge" was removed immediately. I could here the clerk conversing with my bank (she said my name out loud twice). Suddenly the bank rep returns and said the Candlewood has released the "pending" charges. How disappointing Candlewood Suites Clearwater is to the IHG family. read more

This place was great! Stayed 3 nights, my room was very nice! Very contemporary, clean, smelled fine. It had all the amenities I would need for an extended stay. This is a pet friendly hotel, so if you need a place to stay and your pets are with you, these guys are it. I kinda got the feeling they put all the people with pets in one wing, but I never heard one peep out of any of them. The staff was very friendly, even the house keepers always had a smile and hello! This hotel is in the middle of a commercial area, so no, if you are looking for the Ritz or a room with a view of the ocean, you're an idiot and should stay home because you can plainly see on any map search where you are at. It's painfully obvious where you are going to be. I think someone else wrote a review that complained about the bad neighborhood. I live in this town, this is NOT the ghetto or any where close to it. It's not a bad area. In fact, you are about a mile from the Feathersound area which is a very nice, upscale area of homes, business parks, etc. There's a nice Publix grocery store in there as well. It's just one extended stay hotel amongst several across from each other in a plain, commercial area, very close to the St Pete/Clearwater airport. It's not far at all from a wide range of restaurants-fast food to a steak and chop house-GO EAST ON ULMERTON! There's nothing to the west until you hit the beaches, so don't bother. It's all to the East. Heck, one of the biggest and most popular jewelery stores is parked about a mile down the road, so you know it's fine. The hotel was amazingly quiet as well. I barely heard anyone coming and going. But I think you have to understand places like this, EXTENDED STAY, means you have professional people who are relocated to the area for short term jobs, training, etc. Or, people like me who have to vacate their homes for a short time and need a place to call home for a while. This is home away from home so everyone is going to respect that. I've stayed at places like this before out of state and that's who is there. Not families and kids on vacation, all wound up and excited going in and out all the time to the beach, attractions, whatever. Like I said, it's not a Hilton, or a Marriott Renaissance, etc. No, my room's view was nothing to be writing home about, but I wasn't there to stare out a window. It was a great stay, I'd do it again. Trust me, I'm picky about things like this. I wouldn't stay at some crap hole. In addition, they really helped me out and went the extra mile with my late check out as my home was being worked on and I wasn't sure when I could return with the animals on the last day. Negatives? It's not a high end hotel, it's not even a Marriott Courtyard-type place, there's not a lot of frills, so go in understanding that and you won't be let down. The furniture in my room had some wear and tear, so yes, that would be a negative-esthetically. When I told the front desk about it, they were very nice and offered to have it changed out. I declined, I don't care, I just didn't want them to think I did it. But it's not the end of the world. I got my suite for $60/night on Hotels.com and I got a steal! Remember, there will be a small pet fee. I was not ready for that. That was Hotels.com's fault as I specifically asked if there would be any additional fees and they said no. They also said they would notify the hotel in advance that I would be bringing my pets, they did not do this. The hotel was not aware of this...again, not the hotels fault. My fiancé, my parents, and I all stayed here for the last week of June. We very much enjoyed our stay. The staff was always so kind, and the hotel was kept pretty clean, there wasn't any signs of pet messes. The pool was small but officiant. The location for this hotel is the reason for the lower rating. This is NOT in Clearwater, and it is fairly close to many (and I mean many) bail bonds locations, a jail and a courthouse. It is not close to the Clearwater Beach area. The area is not very nice. The photos of the pool are pretty misleading. It is a very small pool which is right next to the highway, though it is screened by a fence. Outside of the location, the room was very nice and very clean and mostly very quiet. Could have been a lot better. While I certainly understand having to replace a roof, there was absolutely no notice given about this on the Website at all. I noticed the workers on the roof as I was getting out of my car. I get into my room... And there is a large blue tarp covering the window. Turns out that they were supposed to be working from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. They could not tell time because they started at 7:25 the next morning after finishing past 6 p.m. the previous evening. The room was huge, and I was looking forward to finally using a kitchenette in a hotel room because I had an early morning meeting and figured great I'll just make coffee here and enjoy. A colony of sugar ants decided to make their presence known, so I literally had to unplug the coffee maker and clean it from top to bottom to make sure there were no little ants in there I could drink. Good thing I brought my own sugar, because they were probably living in the bottom of that container. I was only staying for one night and the room served its purpose and had a comfy mattress. MY GOD I OWE THEM 10 STARS!... Being cost effective doesn't have to degrade a hotel... I honestly wasn't expecting that much when booking this hotel after careful research of nearby hotels looking for the best deals and amenities that come for nearly two weeks prior to booking I've decided to go with Candlewood Suites. Now I would address these reviews I see but that would be a waste of time. So hotel was booked and paid for on Friday for $649 and nothing more nothing less.. Sunday was my first check in day and made it just a little earlier then my check in time (3pm). But as I waited I drove around finding any store that may come to mind got what I needed fruits vegetables at bjs/walmart. Came back and it was still a little to early but they took care of me and a room was ready for me to start unpacking and getting situated :) was very happy when I opened the door with my key card as it smelled so clean, looked like an upscale studio it was so welcoming and felt like home with counters, refrigerators, stoves, pots pans, everything you would need to be "home away from home". While I stayed there for 10 days coming from NYC This place had everything I needed that I can honestly write a whole story here lol. But everyday my girl and I was both thinking what a great deal for this hotel. Beside the welcoming room you also had a free laundry mat and gym which I both experienced to keep you maintained for 10 days!... Will update review in a few days just writing a quick overview for potential seekers as I'm busy and took a quick moment to write this lol. PROS: Free Wifi Cable TV Free Laundry Free Gym Key Cards Full kitchen (Stoves, cabinets, plates, refrigerator, dishwasher, sink, cookware) Free Parking Pet friendly 12pm Check out time Adjustable temperature in room Desk Space Closet/Dressers Cons NOTHING! (wish I could of taken a pillow lol) I would recommend to all looking for a hotel with the Clearwater, St. Petersburg, Tampa area. not my favorite place to stay.....however for the price of around 80 bucks you get a small apartment which was clean and well supplied......only problem was we did not realize it was a pet friendly hotel so not able to take an afternoon nap as the dog next door did not stop barking.......asked for a room change which luckily was available...i cant even imagine how bad it might have been had we not been able to change our room. if you like a modest environment and/or have a pet traveling with you this is the place for you....personally i would not return. read more

We found this hotel, I'm an IHG Gold member and only stay at Holiday Inn et al... Well, since it was the week of Gasparilla I thought to be so lucky to find rates under $100 per night, well, you definitely get what you pay for. The staff, Front desk at least are so very nice. Kathee, Latisha and a young man whos name I did not catch did all they could do to accommodate. BUT, the housekeeping can learn a thing or two..3..four about cleaning. I had to scrub the bathtub before it could be used. We kept towels all over the bathroom floor the entire visit to avoid being barefoot in there. The place is old, but, geez, when I first walked into the lobby my senses were assaulted be the worst odors one could imagine. I was later informed that it is an electric air freshener! Memories of visiting a distant relative at a convalescent center/nursing home came to mind as soon as I walked into the lobby...well it smelled so bad I felt nausea and was terrified the rest of the place and our room may smell equally as bad. The room itself, small, but okay. Some things, like a drawer door for instance, was broken and falling off. The laundry room and gym are refreshingly clean, and the machines were free to use (but your own detergent, they want two bucks a box) The Cupboard had a wide selection which works on the honor system, that was nice. However, the "Lending Locker" did not have what I needed to be lent to me for our day out to the beaches. The pool, tiny, cloudy, dirty around it, I feared for infection to go into it. There is an area mentioned on the website for "Grilling" I checked it out, fortunately before buying Rib Eyes for dinner. The grills and utensils they loan you were filthy, yuck! I am a smoker, don't judge, however, the two smoking areas for this hotel were placed at each end of the hotel. One over by the pool/grilling area and the other, which was closest to my room was outside in a small fenced in area dedicated to the dogs to urinate and defecate, there was a bench, but if you think cigarettes smell, try them combined with dog leavings. I did feel safe though, being so close to the jail, which was news to me and if you need a bail bondman there are dozens right up the road. Not a great neighborhood. At least all the doors required key cards. Parking, bad...I had a Hertz rental 2016 with 56 miles on it and was concerned to park so far from the entrance but had no choice .Also, there were no security cameras outside that I could see except for the second hand store which shares the same lot. I will never stay here again, I would rather pay $100 more for a better hotel. read more

Place is clean, staff is friendly, close to the jail so area is so so but good location as far as things to do and travel time. DO NOT PAY with a debit card if you plan on staying for an extended period, they put unauthorized holds on your account. I was told my weekly rate and behold I look at my bank statement online and they had taken out the previous weeks rate and put a 500$ hold on my account for the future week! I was like wtf!! Thank god I had enough in my account that it didn't put me in the negative and have checks bounce. When I brought this issue up with management they tried to make me feel like I was confused and didn't understand what my bank account was showing, pff. They said they would from now on not put a hold on my account and just charge me week by week. It was my understanding that was what was suppose to happen in the first place. This is unacceptable and from some other reviews I have read this isn't the first time this has happened to customers.
