UPDATE: (from three to four stars) I have spoken with one of the owners, Kendall, after leaving review on an auto link sent after pick up! She went above and beyond to make this situation better, giving me clarity on how things work and what to expect next time if I were to bring my pup again. After about 6 months of not coming, a dog should have another orientation to decide if he could play with other pups, which he didn't get; so then realizing he is an unaltered male, by default he was only to play by himself (with employee). Simply a miscommunication issue, I was refunded money but had other options like to accept a free orientation day or another daycare day. The three 15 minute play times is accurate and standard. Just so you are clear as a new customer, for unaltered and altered pups. As I mentioned before, always great customer service. _________ You can tell employees care about the dogs that visit and they always have great customer service. They also have an organized and covid friendly drop off and pick up system put together. I do not think this is a bad business, they will be my go to for lodging! I just do not recommend daycare or at least not with the expectations that I had. I was told and under the impression that my dog would be in the enrichment program, which included activities to stimulate the mind like courses, games, art, etc and one to two other dogs as playmates. Which you do pay basically double for! ($44 for 10am-3pm) When I went to picked him up, I noticed him FULL of energy... like disgustingly lol-- to the point that I couldn't help but inquire how much play time he had received. I was told 15 minutes. I quickly and with concerned responded " from 10am- 3pm, he only had 15 minutes of play?" and was clarified that that was in 3 separate increments. Still concerned with how much energy I received my dog with, I asked "did he play with any other mates?" and I disappointedly found my answer, which was "no". The first time I took Baloo for daycare, my expectations were met. He had played with pups, came home and slept for a good amount of time and had even received pictures of him out in their yard with other pups on their IG and FB. I brought him to daycare to rid some energy and play with others pups, since I was not able to make it to the dog park like I do every other day. We trusted this facility to care for our German Shepherd dog, Bleu while we were away October 26th to Nov 2nd. The communication with this place was surprisingly awful. We were told Bleu was a picky eater, but was doing well. Unfortunately this was farther from the truth. We picked her up on the 2nd. Bleu was weak, sick, and thin. We took her to the vet and learned she lost 7 pounds while she was at Canine Cabana. The manager was nice, and looked into the issue and called me to tell me, "We failed Bleu" They weighed her and knew she was loosing weight, but somehow her well being and weight loss was overlooked. Canine Cabana did refund her stay there to help pay her vet bill and took responsibility, which shows they do kind of live up to their name and reputation, but how did this happen in the first place? We are heartbroken because we were having a good time, and our dog was apparently suffering and not eating. What are their policies? Who is responsible? They have all good reviews and a great reputation, but I think our story needs to be told so that you are aware of what happened so hopefully this doesn't happen to another family. read more

I knew that I wanted to put My German Shepherd puppy into training and was recommended Canine Cabana by another trainer. I loved the fact the offered orientation so I knew what to expect and where to begin with. The evaluation help set a game plan for training ahead including areas that needed to be worked on and areas we were already good. The trainers took the time to listen to my concerns and offer suggestions when necessary. His first week of training for Cabana Manners was great we even did a consultation so he know show off what he learned! I loved the mini day to day updates at pick up. They are very good with learning your pet and what works best for that pet. Samir being a German Shepherd and only 8 months still is working on playing nicely. The trainers monitored him and Saw that his play style was very much rough and tumble so promoted him to enrichment which was less dogs more human contact and it worked for the better. Samir got sick and couldn't return for about two weeks and the staff called to check on him. They really showed they care about him. His second week of training he did a board and learn due to schedule changes of my job which made it impossible for me to meet the pickup time at 6. He stayed a week and the staff kept me informed when I called. Now we're headed into the final week of Cabana Manners and I'm a bit sad it's almost over. It's a nice facility and the employees are so sweet. The cost is so high for daycare, and they don't tell you on the phone that you have to get the "perks program" in addition to the daycare cost, so I felt pressured into enrolling. Plus, I didn't know that you would have to pay extra if you dog didn't qualify for the regular daycare. My dog is so sociable, so I was so surprised she didn't qualify. I tried out the enrichment program, but my dog never came home and seemed like she played at all during the day. She was super hyper, and has so much energy, which is why I take her while I'm at work for long hours. In addition to this, you have to schedule days that you plan on coming a month in advance. I don't mind this, but because of my changing schedule with work, I never know what day I will need to bring my pup 2 weeks out . The facility is nice, and the employees are great, but I feel as if it is not worth the amount that it costs. read more

After being an extremely loyal/regular customers for 5 years we were told our dog was not welcome back after our last visit when they decided to not follow procedures. We have come every other Friday and have had numerous boarding session since our dog was about 12 weeks old. He has never had any issues in those 5 years. The day of this last drop off, the later in the day staff that we are not familiar with completely disregard their system notes indicating his routine drop off procedure and advised to bring him in through the front reception area, which we haven't done in 3 years. We explained this was not our normal routine and wanted to just stick with what he knew and was comfortable with. They said the reception area was empty and to just being home in. Putting our trust in the employees as we always do we brought him through the front. Not only were there 3 staff members just standing around but there was also another customer and smaller dog that would not stop barking when we walked in. The "trainer" whom we were not familiar with, came out form the back and went directly at our dogs face with a leash. With everything going on this scared him and he jumped. He hit the "trainer" in the cheek/eye with his nose. Mind you he is a Great Dane so she was only about a foot away at the time. She continued to try and put the leash on him as my husband is asking her to stop because we had to get ours off first. After all this frustration and confusion she eventually walked him back without any further issues. He asked if she was ok and she said yes he was just being protective. My husband said he jumped because he was scared and this wasn't his normal routine we follow every other Friday. Now again, he jumped he did not bit or try to. Because of this, now all of a sudden he is a liability and not welcome back even when the manager admitted they dropped the ball. We asked if he had any other issues over the weekend and we're told he was great. We now have had to cancel 2 non refundable trips. Worst part is our dog absolutely loved going and would just wait by the door on Fridays hoping it was his day to go, this breaks my heart. Do better Canine Cabana. read more

I just LOVE Canine Cabana! They take such great care of my Harley! They are very knowledgeable, friendly, caring, empathetic especially when I call several times a day! They post pictures on Facebook so that you can see your "kids". The staff is truly wonderful and dedicated in making sure that your fur baby is well taken care of, integrates them with other dogs and if your fur baby is not the social type, the staff gives them one on one attention. MONEY HUNGRY AND NOT ACCOMMODATING WHATSOEVER!!! Day care for my dog was $28 but he only gets "individual playtime" with only the trainer for 30 minutes, NO dog interaction at all. The rest of the daycare time he is being crated. $28 for 30 minutes of playtime with a person and being crated all day? I might as well pay myself or a WAG walker for that time. I requested to crate my dog only for Lodging/Boarding, they did not accommodate for that saying "it is thanksgiving and the high energy of the place, your dog might get sick being crated only". MISLEADING INFORMATION, a dog will not get sick being crated for boarding and having small potty breaks; that is why Vet boarding is all crate boarding. I paid enough money for this place and will NOT return. Funny thing is My colleague said that he also had the same exact experience with this place 4 years ago after I told him about my story. This place was awesome. They were not only nice when booking and dropping my dogs off but they kept me informed. My dogs did end up with a little cold and they were awesome. The manager Kara and Staff were so great. I was able to speak to Kara right away. She followed up with me immediately. I told her the time frame of going to the vet and I didn't even have to call her. I was able to send the vet invoice over right away. They are super amazing!! My dogs came out happy when I picked them up too. I will be going back and would highly recommend them and make sure to do the insurance its a dollar a day and worth it. I called Canine Cabana to schedule boarding for my dog. The woman I spoke with was polite: I answered questions about my dog and gave her my credit card to reserve. So far so good. However, the morning we were flying out of town my husband dropped him off only to find out we didn't have a reservation. Really? Then why did you have my credit card on file?...Then they 'found' my reservation but had our return date 3 days earlier than we discussed on the phone. Instead of just extending it she gave my husband a hard time and acted as though they couldn't be flexible. It was alittle stressful considering we were flying out of town that morning! My Labradoodle, Mr Furley, is wiped out from his weekend in their care. I took a tour of the facility and not only are they clean and professional, but I could tell that they really cared about every dog there. I know my dog is a handfull, but the staff adapted to his needs and provided a safe, enjoyable experience while we were away. When I picked him up, I was given a detailed behavior analysis and learned quite a bit about my pup that I didn't know! It was fascinating to hear how he behaved while I was away, and how he interacted with the staff and other dogs. Kendall and her staff are amazing animal professionals and I wouldn't want to leave my pup with anyone else. TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!! I contacted Canine Cabana in April, about daycare for our dog. The staff member that I talked to, lacked any knowledge of even the most basic aspects, of caring for an animal. Shortly thereafter, I received a phone call from some yutz, who proceeded to give a twenty-five minute presentation about the facility, by reading from a sales script. It was worse than sitting through a timeshare presentation. The indoor portion of the facility sounds very small. Which means, my dog will be spending the majority of the time in the Hot Tampa Sun. Synopsis: Twice the price, of the other facilities that I talked with in the area. Yet, only offering 1/2 of the services/facility, that are considered important to any dog owner. I disagree with a facility that wants to nickle and dime you for every service, especially when the base fee is already the highest in the area. Fees range from picking up after 10 AM, allowing access to play in the field (which requires no more than opening the door), and a measly 10% discount when they cram our 2 dogs into one kennel. The list of add-on's could quickly total to $100 a night. Also, be weary of the $100 deposit at the time of your reservation as my recent stay was under $100 and they failed to provide me with the refund. It required a follow up on my part to obtain my refund. This is also the only place my dogs have not been excited to return to. There are many places in the area that offer better service for less money. read more

I was told they were too busy to give me a tour. Not even a "just give me 5 quick minutes," nothing. Just sent me away. If I could give this company 10 stars I would. Initially, I was impressed with how thorough they were during the initial phone interview where we discussed my dog's health history. The staff member was knowledgeable about bloat in Great Danes, and I felt so relieved that I could leave my dog in great hands. Less than 24 hours into my trip, my dog developed separation anxiety and nausea (no fault of Canine Cabana- my nervous pup always does this when I have to board her) and the staff at Canine Cabana noticed immediately. A staff member notified me by phone and was quick to address my anxious dog's needs, as well as my concerns, as I wasn't able to travel home. I would like to thank Angie, one of the owners, for caring enough about my dog to take her to the veterinarian for evaluation, and for keeping an extra special eye on my pooch for the rest of her stay at their facility. As a new transplant to the Tampa area, I am thankful to have found this business, and I recommend it whole-heartedly to anyone who has to board a furry friend. Each and every staff member I have encountered in person or via phone has been extremely friendly and professional. One individual even upgraded my reservation to 2 play times during the last day of my dog's stay because it was going to save me money that way. I'm not sure why another reviewer didn't have all positive things to say about this business, because it really is the BEST boarding facility in the area. We have been going to Canine Cabana for a year now and the experience is absolutely amazing. Our first dog started going when she was a few months old and has loved it ever since! We recently got a second puppy and they both run in without looking back at us. The staff truly cares about the animals and treats them as their own. I never feel uneasy leaving our dogs with them and love seeing the pictures posted throughout the day. To top it off, they do fun events for the dogs throughout the year! Marley loves it here! He can't get out of the car fast enough and doesn't even bother to 'say bye' when they take him back. He goes for daycare sometimes and he has been boarded here on several occasions. The staff is friendly, they greet Marley by name as we walk in the door. Clean. Lots of space to run around outside. I am a veterinarian and when I had to leave town without my puppy I left her with Canine Cabana. The staff was wonderful and my puppy was so happy! I was able to tour their facilities (which are very nice, large indoor play area, a lot of large outdoor play areas with shade and a small pool) and everytime I called to check on my dog they were super happy to talk to me. My dog has a bleeding disorder and gets sunburned easily and they were very understanding to the needs of my sweet puppy. My dog was very happy when I picked her up and I will definitely use them again if I ever need to board my dog. read more

If I say to my dog "Wanna go to The Cabana??" he will start wagging his tail and run to the door! The facility is nice and has a good setup. The staff seems to work well with the dogs. The big issue with this facility is that they nickel and dime you to death and are not forthcoming with their prices. They do not list their prices on their website and when I asked about the package deals for daycare I was shown a laminated list of prices. When I asked for a copy they stated they didn't have a copy even though there was a copy machine sitting on the desk. They have a base rate for boarding that includes only 3 walks. Then they pressure you to add on extra walks and play time. Other facilities that offer boarding and daycare have one price for boarding that includes all day play and a bedtime treat. I asked the trainer about group training because I want my dogs to be more socialized with other dogs and owners when I am around. I explained to him that when I am not around they act very different and friendly. He said that I really need to bring my dogs in 3 days a week and they would work with them while they are there for daycare. I asked if I would be charged for daycare and he said yes. I asked if there is an addition price for the training and he said yes but would not volunteer prices. He simply stated that I should bring them in and he would work with them to see what they need and then they would give me a price. He totally glossed over the fact that I wanted to be with the dogs when they did their training because they act different around me. Also, a friend dropped her dog off for daycare on a day they were doing a special party. She asked what the daycare price is and was given a price. When they ran her credit card the price was $10 higher than what was quoted. She asked why and they said oh, the party days are extra. They send out emails and facebook postings for their "special" daycare days but never indicate that there is an extra charge. I boarded my 2 dogs for a 27 hour period and was charged $106. And that only included 4 walks and an hour of playtime. This could be a great facility if they were upfront and honest about their prices. When they aren't it leaves a bad impression and makes me feel like they are hiding something or charging different prices to different individuals based on how much they can get out of you. read more
