J. Bowman House. During my stay found The E. J. Bowman House to be everything a bed and breakfast should be plus some. It's an 1860's Italianate Victorian home that has been completely redone and painstakingly renovated into a bed and breakfast by its owners, Diane and Scott O'Donnell. Diane is really not only the best of hosts but a truly warm and caring person, and one loaded with local information. As far as a bed and breakfast host, they don't come any better than Diane. The facilities of the Bowman House couldn't be better from the eye catching touches of Victorian furnishings and décor down to all the conveniences of private bathrooms, rooms with Wi-Fi and writing desks, robes, hair dryers, and personal controls for air conditioning and heat.

From the moment I arrived (a bit later in the evening), Kyle met me at the car and made everything feel easy and relaxed straight away. It's a family-run place, and that comes through in a really genuine way. In the morning, Kyle's parents, Kevin and Amy, made breakfast and took the time to chat--it felt natural and unforced, just properly welcoming without being over the top. The room and the house were spotless (which I do notice), but still felt like a home rather than somewhere overly styled. It's clearly been thoughtfully put together--everything looks lovely and considered, without feeling staged or flashy. Just a home that's been really well done and well cared for. Comfortable, calm, and easy to settle into. I found myself slowing down without really trying. Breakfast was a lovely surprise--homemade granola with yoghurt to start, followed by an apple Dutch baby. It all looked beautiful and tasted just as good. Simple, thoughtful, and clearly made with care. The setting is lovely as well--quiet farmland, a pond just across the lane, and that sense of being properly away from things, even for a short stay. I don't often say this, but I've not stayed somewhere that made me feel quite like this before. At this stage of life, I'm usually the one looking after everyone else, and for a moment there, it felt like someone was looking after me. It was simple, but it meant a lot. It's not flashy, but it's very well cared for, and that makes all the difference. I'd definitely go back--next time for a bit longer, and possibly with my family.

The bed was a little too soft for our liking but everything was super clean. They really thought of everything! The inn is within 10-15 min drive to all of the area attractions! The BEST part was the breakfast! Don was able to accommodate for dietary restrictions and the meals were delicious! Portions were large! We cannot wait to come back when we're in the area and will recommend to all of our friends and family!

We stayed in the Homestead Room which is one of the smaller rooms, and it was very comfortable and well furnished with shelves and hooks on which to hang things. The outside spaces are large and welcoming. The decor is very traditional and showcases primitive and farmhouse style throughout. The stairs are a bit steep, and there is some traffic noise as the inn is close to the road.

Our room was cozy and featured a wood-burning fireplace. Right outside our door was a stockpile of pre-cut wooden logs, not to mention a beautiful deck that overlooks the forest-covered property. The house is located within a deep, dense canopy, and if you are looking for peace and serenity, this is the place for you. The outdoor area features a calming brook, a swing-set, a fire pit, and so on. Each morning, our gracious hosts left coffee on the deck for us to enjoy upon waking up. Afterwords, we made our way inside to the dining area, where George & Bonnie provided a delicious breakfast tailored to our individual preferences (my wife is a vegetarian). Bonnie's pumpkin bread was a real highlight! We stayed for 2 nights, and were absolutely stuffed to the brim after each breakfast. The owners/management were extremely helpful and communicative. They let me know in advance the event would be happening and to invite us to attend, which we did. They event was very nice, live music, drinks and hors d'oeuvres. The breakfasts were also very impressive. The rooms were very nice and the house itself was charming. The location was fantastic for visiting Harrisburg. I will definitely stay her for any future visits to the area!
