The AKT Foundation supports survivors of domestic violence in the Central PA area. The Great Bake Off is a fun event to sample dessert treats made by an impressive group of local professionals and amateur chefs. After sampling from both professional and amateur chefs, attendees vote for three favorites from each group. My professional vote goes to Sugar Anarchy's Miniature Ginger Snap Cookie and their decorated Russian Shortbread cookies. My amateur votes go to Shannon Twigg's Molasses Cookies, Jessica Schiel's Sourdough Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Blondie, and Ashley Hoffman's Girl Scouts S'mores Cookies. One thing I like about this Best Western is that it has plenty of parking and excellent conference rooms to accommodate significant events.

There is a restaurant/taproom named O'Reily's that looks interesting with an Irish Fare menu with a few choice add ons! The room the soup cook off was in was large and well appointed and had plenty of speakers to hear announcements! Overall from what I've seen and the amenities that are available this appears to be a very nice place to stay while in the Harrisburg area.

For the price, this is an excellent hotel. I stayed here several days in a row several times so…read moreI've been in maybe 6 rooms. You can tell the hotel is old and needs some tweaking but it is clean and smells neutral. I didn't smell any cleaning chemicals, cigarettes, weed, dog/cat, nothing. Breakfast was always completely ready before promised time (6am weekdays, don't recall the time for weekends). They have waffle irons, yogurt, fresh fruit, bread/bagels, scrambled eggs (powdered), sometimes breakfast meats, various drinks. Breakfast area and counters are kept clean. Elevator is wonky but worked fine. It is on the small side, so getting their luggage carts in can be tricky. Microwave and coffee maker in rooms. Bathtub in all the rooms I stayed. Beds are comfortable. A few irritants are the cabinet with the fridge and microwave; the door is on the wrong side. It should open the other way so you can access the fridge easier. Swapping the side the door swings isn't difficult. Another is some rooms had a huge TV and the TV is bolted to the dresser so I couldn't move it to make room for stuff I wanted to keep on it. I don't watch TV so no idea if their channels are decent. The bathroom exhaust fan is loud and you cannot turn on just a light in the bathroom. So, if you get up to wee at night and turn on the light, you're also going to be listening to the fan. The shower water was hot, didn't have to wait long for it. Sam, the front desk staff in the afternoon is a friendly man. I didn't speak to the morning staff much at all. One woman I saw cleaning the rooms one day was friendly and helpful. I couldn't hear traffic noise from the highway but, being theres another hotel next door, I could sometimes hear people in their parking lot.

Overall, decent. Nothing to brag about but nothing to really complain about. The worst part was…read morethat I waited a solid 10 minutes to check in while two other guests stood at the front desk and berated the front desk attendant about their rooms. Then the next morning someone was at the front desk complaining about lack of hot water. Breakfast was a hard pass for me. The eggs were flavorless. Sausage was cold. Hash browns were mushy. The room itself wasn't bad, the furniture could be updated but for one night, it was fine.

We recently stayed for a weekend during a last minute trip to Hersheypark for end of summer with…read morethe kids. Overall our stay was good. With the exception of someone I spoke to on the phone who was incredibly rude, the morning before we checked in when I called to make sure we could stay in the same room for both of our nights (split reservation)... the entire staff was pleasant and helpful. But I really have to give major kudos and credit to the breakfast staff! Suffice it to say, breakfast time gets BUSY around 8:00/9:00 on a weekend morning. They were on top of keeping everything stocked and navigating around lines of people (seriously the waffle line was like 10 people deep). One gentleman in particular (and I wish I had gotten his name) was super helpful after a kid stuck his whole hand into a bowl of chocolate chips so we needed to ask for a replacement. The hotel shows signs of age and nothing is perfect (the shower head was SO HIGH I had to stand on tiptoes to just adjust the stream) but overall it was a good stay. The bed was comfortable... maybe a little firm... but I was THRILLED to find they do do use the crappy down pillows that every other Hilton Brand seems to use. The ones that support your head for about 30 seconds. So this made for a much more restful night of sleep. And of course it is pet friendly with a convenient doggie station on a decent size grassy area that spans the back of the hotel. I WOULD recommend that housekeeping pay a bit more attention to what toiletries they hang in the shower (LOVE LOVE the full size ones that not only cut down on waste but also mean our whole family of four isn't trying to make one tiny bottle of Neutrogena last). The reason I say that is because we didn't have shampoo in our shower. We had shower gel, conditioner, and LOTION. Haha. We're Diamond members so have stayed in a few Hilton properties. And many of them Hamptons. I was not disappointed with this stay. With its proximity to the park (easy in and out), it's a good deal.
