A much over due review since its places like this where the encounter was so horrific that to even scratch the surface of how demoralizing and horrific the it actually was , would take a great deal of time which i can't afford to waste on such a low life vintage proprieter , i was visiting florida from Ca, and Popped into Canned Ham to take a quick look , it's been a few years but ill never forget how horribly i was treated , & I'd never go back if she was giving her clothes that people died in away for free!!! Why there aren't more negative reviews is beyond me , after shlepping several heavy bags of items in (everything in the world was telling me not to waste my time , why i didn't listen ? NEVER again when i get a bad feeling ,listen to your gut, it doesn't lie ) this owner acts like she's curing cancer or doing something important , with her pretentious crappy attitude , bragging and bragging about what a great buyer she was , then she ends up buying 1 belt and chiseling me down to nothing while continuing to brag more about herself , what a complete scary narcissist , all full of herself , individuals who do nothing but brag , scare the F out of me , don't they realize it's just used clothes & it doesn't give them any right to treat others so rude and disrespectfully , Well KARMA always serves exactly what these individuals deserve & im sure she loses plenty of business with her crappy attitude and overpriced shmata's , not to mention how classless she is when it come to treating another vintage clothing dealer with some sort of dignity and respect , didn't even have the civilness to help me carry the bags in !!! Received my 50s dress today! It came well packaged, even a sweet little lace ribbon wrapped around the internal package. This dress is immaculate and so cool! It had never been worn - still has the original tag on it. I knew if I did not snag it up, someone else would get it. It's nice that Canned Ham Vintage is in Florida, so close to me, and I am grateful to be able to find these modest style 50s dresses at their store. Went to find some nice Hattie Carnegie pieces for my birthday and about three minutes post arrival I hear a loud "NO. NO. This is not for you; this is our office" in a super snotty voice--and my incredibly embarrassed autistic teenager comes running out (apparently he'd wandered into an office) and leaves the store. I look at the store owner like "wtf?" and she says "she didn't mean anything by it." Then I know the rude employee is her daughter--because the owner isn't particularly friendly either. Without a doubt the best vintage clothing store in Sarasota! I've been going here for three years and have acquired countless one of a kind pieces. Canned Ham has a meticulously curated selection of vintage clothing from the 1930s to the 1970s. Their selection of 50s/60s pieces is unparalleled. Usually when you go to a vintage clothing store there's a small selection of actual good merchandise hidden within the vast racks of mediocre pieces. At Canned Ham every piece is a gem. It's clear that lots of time, energy and love went into the store. Which is why I have no problem paying a higher price than some other thrift stores. The prices aren't ridiculous, obviously you aren't going to get a 1950s velvet skirt in pristine condition for $15? This is a tough review because I feel so conflicted about this place. Overall, it's a terribly cute store with an insanely well-curated selection of vintage clothes that are in either near-perfect or perfect condition. My problem comes with the price tag of these items: I don't think I saw much under $60. I can understand that your paying for the quality and condition of the item, but the average gal can't justify spending $120 on a vintage dress, no matter how much she loves the pattern. One main thing that really got me was how many items weren't priced at all. While the lady at the front said that there "wasn't enough people to prove everything" and "just ask me for a price," it felt like I was given extremely arbitrary prices for the items I asked about. If it was that easy to spout off a price, why couldn't a price tag be put on it? How do I know that I couldn't come back the next day and get a completely different price for the same item? Just seems like a crappy business practice to me, and turned me off to buying anything. Another thing about "asking for the price" is that it made me as a buyer feel uncomfortable: I was interested in many things but didn't want to keep asking for a price every two seconds, then getting a sharp, semi-judgmental response from the woman. If you love great vintage clothes and don't care about the price tag, then this truly is a great place to come, but for us looking to roll in vintage threads on a budget, don't get your hopes up here. read more

This is a shop worth going to whether you were looking for something for yourself, a gift, or your home. Lots of clothing, lots of decor items, lots of accessories. Most of the clothing is vintage to the 1980s. And really quality stuff! No throwaway fashions here. Lots of great jewelry, lots of purses that you will not see anybody else wearing, as well as items to go out at night and, to wear during the day, or just for fun. There's also a home decor section which has amazing finds from the 1950s to the 1990s. And when I say amazing fines I mean quality furniture and accessories. These are items that you will not pay a fortune for and will have for another generation or can also sell when you get tired of them. Such a wonderful little gem of a shop! There is so much to look at from the clothing, to the furniture, to the art work on the walls. I love that EVERYTHING is REAL vintage. Not just the 1980s and 1990s crap you see in so called "vintage" stores. This is the real deal. I found the cutest little 1950s white wicker purse at such a reasonable price. They offer tons of vintage women's clothing of all kinds from fancy to super 70's flowery dresses and even vintage negligees, MCM home goods, wall art, bar ware, hats, purses, even men's clothing (ties, fedoras, etc). Whoever owns the store has great taste as it's a very nicely curated collection of items, like the kind of items you scour Ebay all the time to finally stumble upon, and it's styled well within the store. However, it's VERY expensive. Like most of the home decor items I was interested in were hundreds of dollars, but the clothing seemed more affordable. If you are looking for something specific or find something you absolutely love, then I suppose it would be worth it. However I'd probably stick to scouring the estate sales myself and save on the cost. read more

Canned ham is very kitschy and cute! They had a great selection of women's clothing and accessories which is what I was looking for. They're all little more on the expensive side compared to other vintage shops in the area but they have a generally nicer selection. The one thing that will keep me from coming back here is that a lot of items I was interested in did not have a price tag on them. So when I was interested in a pair of gloves I assumed they were $10 because a similar pair was right next to them only to find out that they were $25 at the register. I don't like to be surprised when I'm paying for something at the register. Otherwise the service was lovely and everyone was very kind and attentive! read more
