I took my wife here for her birthday. The food was exactly what she asked for. She has a nut and shellfish allergy and had no problem eating here. They have seafood on the menu and usually she has to worry about cross contamination of food at restaurants. The staff was friendly and attentive. The restaurant was clean from the front door to the restroom. We got there at 5:30pm on a Friday and the place was busy but not overwhelmed. They even had a piano player after 6pm. Never again! My husband and I went here on our 5th wedding anniversary, made reservations a MONTH in advance and waited... For 45 MINUTES to just be seated. There were people going into the bar and able to get food before we were even seated. Finally after getting someone to bring is to our table and having to ask the waiter several times to repeat because the music was so loud I ordered the clam Fettichini Alfredo and was met with no clam shells, but little chunks of clam that tasted like they were from a can, grainy and sandy. I was appalled by the taste and presentation of the food that was served. It's been four years since we have eaten there and I refuse to ever step foot into that "fine dining" again. I got cursed out by Linda Cannova-Beckman, the owner of Cannova's for questioning my bill. I was charged a full order instead of the small...no big deal, mistakes happen. Well Linda was very rude and ended up calling me several viscous names. I said something like I can't believe you, being the owner are so rude and she said "Yes I am the owner and I can't believe you are going to fuss over $2!" It was really $4 but does it matter when you're getting yelled at? I just paid the whole bill and left; saying I would never return. She replied, "Good, you f*ing little b*tch!" I guess I am just surprised by the poor customer service by the owner and that Linda didn't mind swearing in front of other customers either! This used to be one of my favorite places to go locally...now will I NEVER set foot at Cannova's again! FOOD is good, but they will water down the sauces when they start to run low. Valentine's night out with my sweetheart. We've been to Cannova's before for Friday fish and it was good. Pizza's also looked good. BUT....first of all, they lost our reservation. Thankfully there was a table in the corner we could use. Our waiter, Larry, is NOT a fan of Valentine's day, which he stated loudly to several tables. Apparently it is a "holiday for women". You get the drift. Appetizer of fried cauliflower was good, but Larry was also not a fan of the "deaf kitchen" as he said we probably heard him yelling at them twice for our app. I had the baked Italian style cod, which was flavorless. There was a side of pasta with red sauce on the same plate, and the juices ran together to make a really upappetizer bloody looking pink juice on the plate. Husband had seafood alfredo. Tip to owners, if it's fake crab, list it that way. His food also lacked seasoning. One of the specials of the night was listed as a duo of ravioli with jumbo shrimp and Tuscan vegetables. The table beside us ordered it, then called their waitress over to state there was no shrimp in it. She apologized and took it back. She returned to the table with the owner or manager. She told the customers that she doesn't make the pasta, it's the best she can buy and "it is what it is". WHAT? Amusingly, when another table sat near us, the waitress informed them that there was a "typo" on the specials menu and that the ravioli had minded shrimp in it. I know she was just saying what she was told to, but that is not a typo. That is false advertising. read more

Love this joint. So glad they're back up and running. Sometimes it's busy, yep... and/or crowded but i tend to associate that with a popular restaurant. If you're thinking far enough ahead to be concerned about it, reservations are honored. The pizza's very good and so is their selection of sauces over your choice of pasta. One of the best gluten free dairy free pizza s I've ever eaten. Their sauce is sooooo good you don't miss the cheese. And the gluten free crust is crispy and tasty. My husband had the baked cod with pasta and cooked carrots and he said it was very good too. We are visiting from Georgia and wish we lived closer! read more

I don't see what all the hype is about this place. The food is okay. The tables are placed very close together and this makes it even more crowded. Parking here is a MAJOR issue, both as a customer and with the city of Freeport. Be careful where you park as you may get a ticket. read more

I love this restaurant! My fiancee and I were staying in Freeport for a business trip and I chose this place based on reviews. First our service was incredible. Collin our waiter never made us wait for drinks, which is usually my fiancee's number one complaint. He checked back throughout the meal but not in anannoying way. We go to restaurants in Chicago and the suburbs and this meal was in my top 5 ever experiences for service! The chicken pizza with fresh garlic won an award and I now know why. We added bacon to it, which made it even more amazing. They have a salad with italian meats and peppers and it was delicious. As to the reviewer who complained about their blue cheese, simply not true. I am a blue cheese connoisseur and Cannova's blue cheese is truly blue and delicious. The restaurant is quaint and romantic but has plenty of room for big parties, several big groups were there and I never felt bothered by them. We will be going to this restaurant everytime we are in Freeport! read more

Amazing! I am traveling for work and decided to try Cannova's. Service was wonderful but the food was outstanding. I never complete reviews but felt it was necessary since it was such a delicious meal. I had the meat tortellini with their famous basil tomato sauce. The homemade bread was to die for. Found this place on Yelp on our way home from Mississippi Palaside and we are so glad we came here. Excellent food excellent services right from the Hostess to the Waitress and all the other people. Very friendly staff service and good food. Even though we did not have reservations they went beyond the call of duty to accommodate. The food came in very timely fashion after we ordered it. The food is overrated, over priced, and seriously lacking flavor. How on earth you mess up a caprese salad is beyond me...terrible mozzarella with almost translucent tomatoes, terrible balsamic, and the worst "chopped" basil I have ever seen.
