Driving to 9852 Mullins Cove Road in Whitwell, Tennessee my wife and I found scenery beyond description. We did the 4-mile drop-off that Chuck, one of the owners, drove us to our destination and told us that we'd experience nature at its finest. He was certainly right, we saw osprey diving down catching fish, bald eagles in the trees, the water was so clear we saw fish swimming on the bottom, turtles on logs sunning themselves, and hummingbirds buzzing by looking for flowers. It was inspiring to see the huge mountains, the green trees, and the gentle current that helped make the paddling so enjoyable. After finishing the trip we stayed in Tennessee River Gorge Island Cabin 1 which was an upscale version with Mikasa Crystal goblets, Egyptian towels, full kitchen with self-cleaning stove, a microwave, a new Samsung front-loading washer and a propane LG dryer for our clothes, which we used before coming back to Ohio to make our trip more organized and no work for us when we got home. Our sleeping was never better as it was on a Crate and Barrel queen-sized white bed. We did some excursions to Chattanooga, not far away, and saw Inline Railway, Rock City, and the wonderful Aquarium in one day and relaxed either on the covered deck or in the jetted jacuzzi bathtub inside the cabin. We will plan to do this yearly as this is a real-life de-stresser. read more

Billy is great. He help all our group into our kayaks and out when we returned. Gave us helpful instruction and lots of places to go see and do. A camera is a most. There is a sandy beach just across the river here which is 1/8 of a mile wide. He even gave the young kids in our group sand buckets and toys for the beach. We think it is the most beautiful and untouched part of the gorge. The river is only moving about 2 mph in this area of The Tennessee River Gorge. The wind direction. if any, determines what what way you go exploring. TRG Island Is surrounded by 1,800 ft'. montains and cliffs. This our 3ed time. There are no mosquitoes. There were a few our first time because there had been a lot of rain but Billy has a learned how to get rid of them. There are no mosquitoes on the river. Do you ever have the desire to escape the routines of your life, to get out and merge with nature, observe wildlife and experience your world from a different perspective? Tennessee River Gorgeous We camped the first night at Canoe Kayak Chattanooga on Tennessee River Gorge Island. In the mildle of the 26 mile Gorge. Suround by 1,800 ft. cliffs and mountains. The highest of the 650 mile TN River. The river there is about 1/8 of a mile wide and moving about 1 mph. Early morning canoes and gear load up in Billy's truck, he drove us to Suck Creek boat lanuch and help us put in. The first night on the rver we camped on William's Island. Second night Pot Point.TRG Island the third night. Hot shower and a real toilet. Lol On our trip down the Tennesse River Gorge we were able to photograph fishing & nesting Osprey,Great Blue Herron and Kingfishers. Beaver,Turkey, Raccoon, Rabbit, and White Tailed Deer. On our second day closer to TRG Island we were lucky enough to spot and photograph a Bald Eagle that flew directly in front of our canoes. That was the most exciting highpoint of my trip. The most beautiful canoe trip we have ever been on. I strongly encourage you to go out and create your own experience on the Tennessee River Blueway. I'm not sure about what happened with the other people who reviewed but my boyfriend and I had a great time! The destination was very easy to reach, there's two signs with arrows on them and had kayak rental written on them so it was easy to find. Of course the roads were winding and curvy but were in the mountains so that's what we expected. When we got there we just called the phone number and the man came right out and got us into the water within 5 minutes and we were off. The life jackets were dry and our kayak was very clean. I think the other people were expecting this place to be a huge attraction when it really seems like a family business which in my opinion was better because we found a good place with a beautiful view, many birds and plenty of cool things we spotted while kayaking. Overall if we come back to chattanooga in the future this is easily a place we would come to again. read more

Love Canoe Kayak Chattanooga. The Tennessee River is only running 3 mph here. We just went for our 3ed time and it never disappoints. Billy is always super nice and helpful. You can make a reservation without providing a credit card number which is nice for big groups and only $35 all day for kayaks or canoes. If you love nuture and serenity TRG Island is for you. In the middle of the "mostly untouched" 26 mile Tennessee River Gorge with over over 27,000 acres. With 1,800 ft. mountains and cliffs. TVA and TRG Trust owed protected lands. We always have a blast and the scenery is so beautiful. They also offer a 3 mile,13 mile and 21 mile (over night) shuttle we've always done the 7 mile and it's perfect. Plenty of stops along the way to eat or relax in the water. I can't wait for our next trip. read more

When we got there it was simple and fast! As soon as we got there billy got us into the water within 5 minutes! No haste at all! The view around the place is so pretty and calm and not a lot of boat traffic which is amazing! We rented a canoe that was in great condition. Billy also gave us ziplock bags for our stuff and a couple bottles of water for no extra charge. It was an amazing experience! When we were done his dogs came out and they were the three most amazing sweetest dogs I have ever met! It was overall an amazing experience! We will be back hopefully every month! This place is fantastic! Our 2nd time here. The price is great, $35 all day and if you want to get away from the rat race and immerse yourself in nature in a quiet and peaceful place, this is definitely the place to come too. Myself and 2 friends kayaked for 4.5 hours and saw only 5 other people during that time that ever came close enough for us to speak to. Was truly very peaceful. The two owners are absolutely wonderful! They made me and my friends feel like we had known them for years. This place, the kayaking experience and especially the owners are all a jewell! Have you ever been in Chattanooga and wondered,"Where can I enjoy this nice day?" I was near Chattanooga and really wanted to spend a beautiful day in a beautiful atmosphere, and luckily I had a extreme want to kayak this day. My husband & I were able to spend the limited time we had to paddle and experience some wildlife like herons & turtles during our time on the water that ultimately satisfied my "in the wild" interests. The owner is a kind man who made my kayaking experience wonderful! The kayaks themselves were good quality for the cheap price, lifejackets were provided, and I was even offered sunscreen if I forgot my own. I also recommend heading upstream first, as I went downstream pretty far first and spent more than triple the time trying to return by sunset which was a challenge. My wife and I stayed on their campground to tent camp and also kayaked. We had a great time and they were very accommodating during our stay. They went beyond what we could have thought or asked in order to make sure we had a great stay. We were even able to see the cabins while they were getting cleaned after a previous visitor just left, and they looked like they would be enjoyable to stay in as well. read more

My husband and I did the 15 mile drop. It was so beautiful, so serene, and so worth it! We saw osprey, king fishers, deer in the water, and a golden eagle! This was our 22nd anniversary and it was the perfect way to spend it. We will definitely go back and rent one of the cabins. I have rented twice from this place and both times I have been extremely happy with the service. The owner is both friendly and knowledgeable he showed me interesting locations like an osprey nest. Fantastic views. If you are coming from Marion County Park, drive 5 miles on highway 27. Turn right on Mullins Cove. Drive 13 Miles on Mullins Cove (very windy road) and watch for a very small sign "Kayak" on a picket by the tree. Once you are in, it is a great experience. Billy is awesome. Great guy. We rented the new pontoon boat for my sons birthday and had a fantastic day on the water. Can't beat the views from the Tennessee River and despite it being a bit too cold to swim and a bit too windy to anchor, we all had a wonderful day and my 7 year old enjoyed a birthday he'll always remember. Love this place! Chuck was very friendly and welcoming!! Very easy process to pay, we got there and were on the water in 10 mins. Very pretty views and plenty to do. Great value and perfect location! My family of four rented kayaks for the day from this perfect little spot nestled on the Tennessee river. If it wasn't so hot (2022 heat wave) we would have stayed out longer. Definitely recommend especially if you are staying on the whitwell side of the river. read more

The service was spot on. Billy was great and very accommodating. The dock where you disembark is in a very calm spot on the TN River. The current is slow (~2mph) so it is basically flat water paddling for miles both up and down stream. The trip was very relaxing and exceeded our expectations. read more
