A small business but definitely filled with the best and most intentional staff. They were so great accommodating for just over 40 girls. We all were split up into multiple rafts (about 4-6 per raft) but they still kept us as a group throughout the 5 miles we were on the river- making sure we could all laugh at each other. In partial, my group got lucky with HOLLY! What a GEM! She had the most contagious energy and you can tell she truly loves what she does. I didn't realize until mentioning her afterwards at our camp, that apparently she's pretty well known for all of her outdoor adventures. While guiding us, we also asked some questions about her life and some of her highlight experiences, which included some memories from rafting through Italy and the Grand Canyon. It's amazing the adventures she's been on and you can tell that she lives for what she does. She made our "dream team" laugh probably 100 times and kept the whole experience exciting even when we took a lil break. This place was light hearted, fun, and even for my first time rafting, I always felt extremely safe. THANK YOU CASCADE! THANK YOU HOLLY!!!!

Our guide, Spencer, was incredibly skilled as he could have navigated blindfolded... yes, he's that good! Spencer was also an absolute blast to surf the river with... very friendly, knowledgable and well-traveled... he had plenty of amusing stories to share and kept us all very engaged. I should also mention that Spencer was also seriously great at gaging our comfort level vs. our spirit of adventure... therefore, he was able to navigate us down various paths of the river making it challenging and thrilling for us! While there are plenty of white water outfitters to pick from, we intentionally picked a smaller outfitter and we were so glad we did... we felt our experience was more personal, less generic, and seriously less crowded! I only wished I had sat in the front of the boat where the photographer was situated... that would have made a fantastic birthday photo. The only other "disappointment" was that Cascade Outdoors advertised about their HOT SHOWERS which was super important to us and was one of the main reasons we chose Cascade Outdoors... but there was NO hot water available and the lack of being able to take a good shower after the rafting trip did impede on our other plans. Other than that, Cascade Outdoors and our guide, Spencer, offered us a fabulously fun white water experience on the Ocoee River! We can't wait to return!!! :)

My husband wanted to go whitewater rafting on…read morethe Ocoee for his birthday this year, and after a quick search through Yelp and beyond, OAR is one of the best rated rafting companies in the area. We booked the Middle River trip, which totals about 3 hours and includes 1.5 hours on the river itself. I booked our trip a couple of weeks in advance online, and I'm glad I did, because they sold out for the day! It was $65 per person, which feels like a fair price for the experience. They recommend arriving 30 minutes early, which will give you plenty of time to get checked in and get your party situated. Definitely bring sunscreen and a plastic water bottle, along with the proper water shoes and attire. You're instructed to leave everything in your car, and then drop your keys off with the front desk staff for pick-up after your rafting trip. The safety briefing started right on time, and basically consists of what to do if you end up going overboard. It's not meant to be scary, and most of it is self-intuitive. There were about 60 people in our group, and the majority of rafts held 6 people. After the safety talk was over, everyone gets their own lifejacket, oar, and helmet. Then you and the rest of your crew hops on a school bus, which will take you to the drop-off site about 20 minutes away. This is where we met our rafting guide, Cleveland, and after a quick demo on paddling and how to sit in the raft, we were off on our adventure! Our time on the water was so much fun, and I want to shout out how incredible Cleveland was from the beginning to the end. He was an awesome mix of friendly, engaging, and informative, which made our trip all the more memorable! As a group of two, we were paired with two other random couples to fill out our raft, which was a great way to meet some new people. Overall this was an amazing experience, and we can't wait to do it again soon. We'll definitely be booking the full river trip next time!

So, I have never left a bad review for a restaurant in my life. I am pretty easy going as a guest…read morein any establishment, but having been in the food industry for the entirety of my career, I am sure to be extra forgiving. That being said, I ran into a couple things here that I just found unacceptable. It was a hot day today, almost 100 degrees not considering the heat index. My fiancé, 6 month old son and myself were very excited to come inside and cool off with a cold drink and some air conditioning. We were sat in a lounge with no fans or AC whatsoever and my son and I started sweating within minutes. Not the end of the world but it did put a damper on the overall atmosphere and experience. It took a while for us to be greeted by our server who was kind. We placed our drink orders and got that back pretty quickly, then we placed our appetizer order. It took almost 15 minutes after placing our appetizer order before we saw our server again. Mind you, it was busy and noticeably understaffed. We got the cheese curds and over half of them were completely empty ! The selling point on the menu is that you receive a "half pound of cheese curds". This was not the case. My son was eating and entertained so we weren't too chuffed about it. We placed our food order and it was about 45 minutes until our food came out. I noticed after placing our food order with our server, she made rounds around the restaurant before putting our food in. As a server myself, that's just not the order of operations. Putting in a ticket takes less than 2 minutes. Put the food in and then make your rounds to check on everyone. Not quite unacceptable, but we were hungry, have a young baby and we wanted out of the heat badly. When my food came out I was worried about how everything looked. I ordered a blackened catfish plate and my fiancé had a blackened shrimp po boy. My catfish was not blackened but it had a noticeable layer of seasoning on it. I would say 1-3 cm of just seasoning on top of my fish with no char/blackening. It literally sloughed off of the fish. I pecked at the sides which I was not impressed with. Fries were unique but not crisp enough, and the slaw tasted like it was made with apple juice. Once I took a bite of my catfish I couldn't help but make a face. My fiancé was genuinely shocked because I am NOT picky. I'll eat just about anything. I scraped some of the slimy layer of seasoning off and gave it another bite and was equally put off. Last bite I took was with the "house remoulade" and I audibly gagged. Never in my adult life have I done that ! Super embarrassed and I knew I couldn't force myself through the plate. I had to wait another 30 minutes before our server checked in and I had to tell her I was grossed out and could not eat my food. She apologized and gladly comped the item off our ticket, which I appreciated. She asked if they could make something else for me, and I politely declined saying the baby is tired and we're all hot and ready to go. She brought the ticket to me and I immediately gave her my card. I watched her go outside, to the bar, and around the dining room with my check/card. She returned other tables checks before mine while she had collected them after mine. It made no sense to me, and I was getting fed up at this point as I was sweating bullets and the baby was melting down. While the po boy looked nice and was loaded up with shrimp, we were a little disappointed that it didn't come with a side considering the $17 price tag. He tried a piece of shrimp by itself and almost spit it out. He gave the whole sandwich a try and said it worked better with everything all together. This is obviously a place locals enjoy and I can tell many people have enjoyed their experiences here ! I wanted to share mine so people could be prepared for the possibility of understaffing and to avoid the blackened fish/seafood.

Located in the Tennessee River Gorge, you will paddle along the abundant wildlife and be encompassed by magnificent mountain ranges! First the positive. The views are good. "BEST views in town!" is a stretch. We were out for two hours and the only abundant wildlife we encountered were two bald eagles, two blue herons and a small family of mallard ducks. We also saw three geese owned by someone on the river, but they don't quite qualify as wildlife IMHO. That's it. That's the good. The confirmation they send you is semi accurate. You do park across the street and the parking IS very limited. Kayaks, paddles and PFD's are located at the bottom of the hill near the boat launch. All rentals are self-serve, there is no attendant on site. This is likely so there is no one to complain to about the terrible condition of the kayaks. The Confirmation mentioned that there was a lockbox, but there was not, nor were the kayaks locked up. Not that they need be. Even the most desperate would not want to steal one. Did I mention that the kayaks were in poor condition? Perhaps that was an understatement. Some had no seats or damaged seats. A good number had damaged or missing hardware, and all were in desperate need of upkeep. My daughter and I got what I deemed to be the best two and after two hours on the water we were both quite sore. Not from the exercise, but from the terrible seats. The Confirmation email stated "Stringent Cleaning - We've increased the frequency of disinfecting surfaces and high traffic areas between each tour, and hand sanitizer will be available to all of our guests." This is downright laughable. Nothing there has been cleaned in an age. To be fair the paddles were adequate, and the PFDs were in fair condition for the most part, but we came to kayak, not wear a PFD. This place charged $45 each for two hours of kayaking. That makes River Canyon Kayaks one of the most expensive kayak rentals in Eastern Tennessee. I don't know what they are using this money for, but it sure isn't for upkeep, accommodations or atmosphere. My recommendation would be to go somewhere else.

We spent well over an hour on the river, including time when we could actually get out of the raft and float down the river. Yak was our guide, and he was very obviously quite experienced. He knew exactly what to do to give us the most fun possible while keeping us safe. When everyone fell out of another raft ahead of us, Yak kept his cool and directed us over to them so we could help rescue them (everyone was fine). This guy was super chill and very knowledgeable about the area. You should definitely ask for him; he knows what he's doing.
