After having to move to another city & distance this past summer, our little daughter had to leave Canterbury Christian School after attending K5 & 1st grade. We've tried another Christian school closer to our new home & workplace. After 5 days of the new school, our little family decided to drive a distance just so our daughter can be back @ Canterbury Christian School. Canterbury is where she thrives, grow, learn, & be happy. The other school was very nice, but they are missing a detailed education curriculum, discipline, sincere care for every child from all teachers & staff, mannerism, respect, a very different culture. Canterbury Christian School has a much higher standard in education & culture than a typical Christian school. There is no comparison. They are like family. The Canterbury parents are extremely friendly with Christian values. The Canterbury culture is exceptional & therefore I & our little family would recommend this school to all. Your child's core foundation will affect them for the rest of their lives so picking the right school is extremely important. We are thankful to comeback to the Canterbury Family! read more

We enrolled our 4 yrs old daughter in-person for K-4 at Canterbury Christian School since 2021 January. In this half year, overall we are very grateful for the classical Christian education that our daughter has received at CCS. We identified that our daughter has learned a LOT since she joined the school. Mrs. Vijay is a caring and faithful teacher. Our daughter probably is the youngest student at the class and she didn't speak much English when started. As parents, we were a little worried about if she could catch the level and pace of the class. But with Mrs. Vijay's teaching and guidance, our daughter didn't have much problem to get used to the school life. CCS teaches authentic Christian values and tries to help students to know God in everything that they study. My daughter nowadays often sings Christian hymns at home or while our family walking / hiking. We can tell that our daughter's world view and values have been shaped at CCS. Too sad that we have to relocate to another state so we have to leave CCS. But we highly recommend CCS based on our 6 months experience. Before we send our daughter to CCS, we did hear the comments about the CCS new admin team. First of all, we visited the open house of the school and met Father Macias and Mrs. Macias and Mrs. Vijay. What we care the most is the authentic Christian faith and values. We think the CCS is providing that. Different organizations might have different rules and different leaders might have different perspectives or styles. Those things we cannot control. After prayers, we decided to give a try. Our feedback is we didn't experience the issues that we heard before. For example, we heard the communication problem but we appreciate the proactive communication either through weekly newsletter or occasionally in-person / email communication specific about our kid. So again, based on our 6 month experience at CCS K-4, we highly recommend CCS! read more

Incredible school with dedicated teachers that are passionate and loving towards children. My daughter loves going to school here. She comes home every day and recites poems and songs. She is five, but she's already reading, writing cursive. This School is a gem And teaches children to respect their parents, believe in God, and be a contributing member of society. They have a high standard for students but are happy! She is also learning dance routines through Miss McClure. I wish the public schools would emulate their teaching style. There is a lot of structure here but the kids are so happy and very social. I know that my daughter is being set up to be so successful, empathetic and thoughtful. Our youngest daughter came to Canterbury Christian School almost by accident, but has been the most extraordinary experience for her and for our family. We were looking for for an academically challenging and structured environment to prepare her to enter Kindergarten in Fall 2024, and the K-4 program (of Fall 2023-Spring 2024) was the program we selected. The intimate nature of the school (about 50 total students at the time, small class sizes) attracted us, but the community, school leadership and progress she has made have left us extremely grateful, humble and satisfied. And even more, she absolutely loves being at school! Each class performs songs, readings and recitals periodically and I continue to be impressed with how much she can memorize and recite. She can read simple things--things her public school older siblings were not doing until 5 or 6 years old. I think that one of the things that we appreciate the most is how the kids of all ages play together across grade and age levels. They all know each other and the older students are role models playmates for the younger students--it reflects the community and culture of the school. Other things that I very much appreciate: - Part of the education beyond academics is a focus on manners and citizenship--it comes across at home and is a stark contrast to public school. - I also appreciate the focus on low technology at this primary school age--the classical education lays a foundation without technology so they are not dependent upon it later. - there are school uniforms and I admit that I was unsure at first, but both we and our daughter have grown accustomed to and actually like it. The staff selects very modestly priced items in good taste so it is not at all expensive or difficult to afford yet are easy to keep clean and organized. - the school maintains a very flexible (sign up on a weekly basis for what days) after school care program that is also quite affordable and has enrichment educational options (e.g. Art, Mandarin, etc). read more

CCS has been a great school for decades in bay area, we have been really appreciating the dedication of all the great teachers to traditional Christian education, children character building etc , also enjoying the rich school academic programs and activities since my son started in K 6 years ago. The school is in the middle of transition time due to admi change. The new admi staffs have been trying their good effort for the improvement. For any institute or organization , change could be challenging, we really pray & hope CCS will continue to strive for excellence and continue to be the blessed & be able to bless more families & children in bay area in the future. read more

Our two children go to this school. We were drawn to it by its traditional Christian values and "sticking to the basics" in its teaching philosophy. Our oldest child started kindergarten at a public school in a great school district. Then one day, a church friend introduced us to CCS. We came during the open house, and we were sold! The small class sizes, a Christian-based curriculum with a focus on STEM, and the highly organized daily regimen are something we desperately wanted but could not find at our great public schools. In Silicon Valley it can feel like everything's happening so fast. There are changes happening everywhere every day. As a family that has been through the transition of Canterbury Christian School's administration, there are some things I wanted to share. After the new leadership took over the school, many changes were made very quickly and drastically. The vision for education and community and the values that we had for our child /family were no longer there. It was heart-breaking to see that many of the school's traditions and sense of community went away. The school was becoming more business focused vs the style established by the Milbank's and the Johnson's. Since 2019 when the current administration took over, the 6th grade class was replaced by a pre-K class. A few devoted and excellent teachers who had been serving at Canterbury for many years were asked to leave for various reasons. The positions were then replaced by the current administration's family members and friends. I would say that Canterbury used to be a gem in the Bay Area, and we were so thankful for the Johnson's and Milbank's dedication to education. The school was a tight-knit community where the families and the school supported one other. In addition, the Johnsons always kept the school safe and were very cautious about any outsiders/strangers that were not part of the Canterbury community. read more

We have two children who attend Canterbury currently at the K-4 and second-grade levels. The teachers and staff at Canterbury take their mission very seriously. They are very loving and take great care of the kids. There is a strong and tight-knit community here with great communication. The curriculum is very bible centered and I have seen my children grown spiritually through the years. They look forward to hearing bible stories now and are proactively curious about God. I personally don't relate to the prior negative reviews as we had a great experience here and will miss the school dearly because we are moving away. read more

Finally I found this diamond in Los Altos. 1:16 teacher to student ratio, small class size and outstanding quality of extended care program. The teachers in this school really has passion about teaching, and they all have over decade of teaching experience. Besides academic skills my son has also been building characters. read more

We love Canterbury Christian School! I have 1 kid currently enrolled and 1 that graduated. We have had an incredibly positive experience at the school. My children are learning in a faith-based school with wonderful faculty and staff. Father Macias, the Principal, is committed to faith formation and their collective mission to develop the whole child. Canterbury school focuses on educating the heart and mind of your child. This school has been such a blessing to our family and our children. The teachers are so caring and amazing. In addition to academics, Canterbury school got a strong focus on disciplining. It's a small school, only one class per grade, so there's a lot of small group learning and individualized attention. At Canterbury, there's a real emphasis on loving one another. Their buddy system (where a kindergartener is paired with a 5th grader) really fosters bonds between upper & lower grades from the beginning. Canterbury offers great opportunities in building exceptional skills in leadership, citizenship, and human kindness. We currently have our 2 children here and you can definetly see the positive influence that this school has had on them. They are more academically prepared then their cousins who go to charter school in the same grades and definetly more well mannered and disciplined. I am currently looking for a junior high for my daughter for 2013-2014 and everytime I mention that she will be coming from Canterbury they immediately tell me that the doors are wide open for Canterbury students, they mention how exceptional the students who come from here are. Canterbury Christian School has been and continues to be a fabulous school for our daughters. They don't advertise, so the only way to hear about this "best kept secret" is by word of mouth. Our older daughter attended Canterbury for Kindergarten through sixth grade and graduated extremely well prepared for junior high. She learned responsibility, respect for authority, self-discipline, time management and a whole lot of content in her seven years there. The language arts curriculum is strong and Latin is taught beginning in the third grade. By sixth grade, the students are translating complex, Latin paragraphs, including selections from classical Latin literature. Beginning in 4th grade, the students are in handbell teams and have the opportunity to perform in a handbell festival and at a local convalescent hospital. PE, art and music are still taught, unlike in many public schools where the ancillary subjects have been eliminated due to budget cuts. While the class size is limited to 16, many classes have fewer, which allows the students a lot of personal attention from the teachers. Spelling bees, speech meets, math olympics and creative writing competitions are annual events at Canterbury. Another thing I really appreciate about Canterbury is that the students get a lot of opportunity for public speaking through solo and group recitations. By the time they graduate, they are very comfortable in front of an audience. The Saxon pre-algebra class in 6th grade prepares the students to take algebra in 7th. Canterbury is a Christian school and therefore a Christian worldview is taught and the curriculum includes Bible passage memorization. If I could wave my magic wand and change one thing, I would add more hands-on science in the curriculum. The book learning is extensive, but more lab work would be better. Don't be put off by the modest look of the buildings because what happens inside the classroom is magical. read more
