This new school, she does not cry when being dropped off and enjoys school, finishes her lunch and does not wet her pants. That's because the teacher cares about the student here and dedicates time and care. I am seeing how she will academically advance her as i have confidence in the teacher/staff.

I began looking for a preschool when my oldest daughter was in the womb! The thought of entrusting my children to others was always frightening. Wonder Years was recommended to us by 3 different families. It only took me 10 mins into the tour before I knew that was where my daughter and future daughter would thrive. We have experience in the Toddlers, 2's and 3's classes over two years. Part of my reasoning behind this review is because I am disappointed in the current negative reviews people even have the time to write. And some of their information is false and misleading. From the start of this pandemic, TWY sent out informative and detailed information about how they are keeping the school clean, new preventative measures they are taking to minimize contact amongst other age groups etc. I appreciated that so much. When the school shut down, it took them about 2-3 days to prepare the most extensive, weekly curriculum packets for our kids. Pics are attached. The amount of work that went into these packets was unbelievable! They even gave the kids a fresh pack of crayons and paints. Now, my stepson goes to a public school in San Jose and his school sent home and prepped ZERO curriculum and it's been 3 weeks. Since the self quarantine, TWY team has sent WEEKLY (sometimes DAILY) emails that include links for the kids to join in on circle time, music class, dance class, Spanish and even Mandarin. The time that it likely takes them to film and organize what goes out, I truly appreciate their dedication. My kids have stayed connected, and engaged in all the activities that have been planned out for them. I don't know how I would have stayed sane without it. As far as tuition, you cannot put a price on education. I went to the finest private schools in the Bay Area and I have two working class parents who BOTH worked 2 jobs. They told me I had one job: go to school, get good grades, find a career I love. That work ethic they bestowed on me, I now push on all my children. My fiancé and I have one income. We struggle every month just to make tuition work. But we would never complain bc I know my girls are getting the finest education even at 2 and 3 y/o. While I empathize with families that are struggling right now because of the loss of work and such, finding time to write a negative review towards an educational establishment is just down right nasty. The most thorough email was sent out regarding tuition and there where several options to pay. At the end of the email, we were told that if we have any concerns re: tuition to reach out to the director personally. The negative reviews complaining they were never given an option, is misleading. Every family has their own financial troubles during this time and they're not all the same. Perhaps taking the time divulging that in a respected email to the director would have been more beneficial than taking time to write a negative review. No one planned for what has happened to our country. We are going to look back years from now still astonished. But one thing I will remember is how I had an even larger village of people who loved my kids and cared about their education and well-being during this time. I would HIGHLY recommend TWY to all families I know who ask about preschool! Thank you Wonder Years.

Very mixed feelings…read more Pros: My LO's teachers were amazing. They truly love and care so much for the kiddos. Being a preschool teacher is probably one of the toughest gigs, but the teachers brought their energy and passion every day. They even went out of their way to do special things for my LO like buy her clip on earrings out of their own paychecks when they noticed how much my LO loves jewelery. My LO also learned a ton. Her vocabulary exploded after several months there and I was amazed by how much she knew about shapes, animals, etc. The South MV campus is also brand new and very nice, complete with a large gym and play yard. Cons: All preschools are businesses but the Wonder Years really is operated as a business first, school second. The unusual financial policies others have mentioned (like the $700 deposit that can only be used towards tuition if you end your contract in July- the $700 is otherwise forfeited if you give notice any other time of the year) are inflexible and the administration is merciless when enforcing the policies. I found the latest Covid policy too coercive and the last straw for us. Not only did they ask parents to pay full tuition for the entire time they were closed but if parents were to terminate their contracts and then re-enroll (subject to their availability of course, as they kindly reminded us :P), parents would need to retroactively pay tuition for all the months they had pulled their kids out for. While I understand the rationale for all of this, it's so heavy handed and prioritizes their own bottom line. Instead, they could have prorated their tuition to cover their bare minimum expenses (which many other daycares are doing) or set up a donation fund for teachers which parents would've very happily contributed to. The administration knows just how much of a daycare demand there is in the Bay Area and it feels like they're exploiting that.

My review won't nearly do the school justice, but here's what I've got. I went to a co-op preschool growing up (Redwood Parents Nursery School in Redwood City) and I remember it being pure magic. The environment, the teachers, the families we're still in touch with (I'm 35 now, so that's saying something), all the time outdoors. In my search for a preschool in this area, I had begun to accept that that kind of thing just didn't exist anymore, or that if it did it was out of reach financially for our family. I know one mid-range preschool I toured (not parent participation) was something like $650/month, and that was just for 3-4 mornings per week, nothing crazy. I couldn't do it. So we went to a city-run preschool for a while that we weren't thrilled with, and then went to the open house for this one in January of last year. It. Was. Everything. I was blown away by the beautiful outdoor space - big tricycle track, chickens, bunnies, big sand area, garden for the kids to engage with, tons of movement equipment, nice lawn and little hills. And now they even have a mud kitchen! The kids are ENCOURAGED to get messy. They can run around barefoot, jump in puddles, if they're working on their potty training and have an accident - no biggie. They really and truly foster a positive learning environment. There are centers set up all over the place (thanks to the parent involvement) with science projects, cooking projects, special art activities, free range art activities, music, and exploration of every kind. And if the kids just want to hang out and ride bikes because that's developmentally what they're drawn to? That's cool, too. They consider observation a form of participation, rightly. On top of all of this, the teachers. Oh, the teachers. They're just amazing. We started in February of last year, mid-year, and we were immediately included, welcomed, loved, and part of the village. We were at home, right away. They treat the students with unending respect and love, get right in the magic and fun with them, and are equally ready to sit down in the dirt and listen, build problem solving and conflict resolution skills, and just be 100% present. They WELCOME conflict and difficulties, because it's an opportunity for learning and growth. As they say, if the kids already had all of those skills, they wouldn't need preschool. All of this, and affordable! $270/month for the 3's morning class this year, I believe; and just slightly more for the 4's afternoon class. The catch, and I see how this makes it challenging in some one parent homes or two working parent homes, is that there's a lot of parent participation involved (working one day per week, evening meetings once/twice month, a committee position, two janitorial weekends per year, etc.), and that part ALMOST kept us from doing it, but I'm so unbelievably grateful that we chose to make the leap. Every bit of time and effort we've put in has come back to us ten-fold in the sense of community we feel, and the amazing experience our whole family has had so far. If you're considering this school, you can call any time and schedule a tour. I can't possibly give it enough stars.

The school is a wonderful location with a huge backyard play area that has bikes and chickens and bunnies and tire swings and lots more. Inside there is a play house, art studio, and a game room. Our daughter comes home with a new and different piece of art that she's made almost every day. It's a parent run co-op, which means all of the parents are very involved (they run the school!) and it's really great getting to know a community of other parents with children the same age. The parents work during the school days along with the teachers, which means there are lots of adults supervising the children, and it also means the adults get to relive a bit of their own preschool experience. I had forgotten how much fun a marble maze is, or all the different things that you can do with hula hoops!

It is one of the rare preschools where your child will happily wave goodbye to you as they have an excellent process to get little kids comfortable when they first join - parents visit with the child the first few times. The school is very clean, well organized and they have lots of toys and activities including circle time, arts and crafts, yoga, music class, learning worksheets, Spanish and lots more. Kids also learn good social and emotional skills and are encouraged to be helpful and loving to the other kids. Kids spend a lot of time outdoors which is great for their development. My daughter developed close friendships and she absolutely loved going to school. She always begged me to let her stay for longer hours and would get upset when she was sick and couldn't go to school. One day when I went to pick her up early, she kept crying as she wanted to stay longer ! Also Manijeh has a lot of training and experience with little kids, so even when my daughter started resisting nap-time at home, Manijeh was able to get her to nap happily at school ! There is a good parent community and you can engage with other parents as much or as little as your time permits. You get photos and videos of the kids and Manijeh is always willing to answer any questions you may have. Maricar "got" our child just after his first week of school, she talked to us about his strengths and weaknesses and prepared different activities to help empowering him. In just a few months not only we saw improvements in many areas (fine motor skills, emotional regulation, communication skills etc) but most of all we saw him grow into a more independent and confident version of himself. As part of the Reggio-Emilia philosophy the learning environment is truly the third teacher: CIS offers amazing educational materials (Waldorf, Montessori, Spielgaben, Kimochis dolls..), a wonderful selection of books and the outdoor space provides many outlets for imaginative playing and gross motor activities. The level of communication is excellent: on a daily and a weekly basis Maricar takes the time to communicate how the child is doing, his progresses and challenges and shares pictures and reports of their activities at preschool. Maricar deeply cares for the emotional wellbeing of each child. Our son had to undergo a medical procedure he was anxious about and she spent a considerable amount of time talking to him and prepare him for it - and that support helped him tremendously during the procedure and healing process. During those five months we, as parents, learnt a lot about our child and how to help him flourish. It takes a village to raise a child and we feel very blessed to have CIS as part of ours.

They say it takes a village and we have been so blessed to have Maricar & CIS in ours. CIS is not a traditional academic learning environment. Maricar believes in allowing children to lead their learning and would create lessons with whatever the children were naturally interested in. It made for an environment that I believe will develop into a lifelong love of learning, which was my priority. If you're looking to have your kids learn to read by 3 and long division by 4, that may happen, but that isn't the focus at CIS. Play comes first! It isn't for everyone but it was perfect for us.
