This is one of the oldest Bacaros in Venice introduced to us from the food tour. There's a double entrance from two alleys near the Rialto Bridge. Small little bar so it gets really crowded. Do Mori offers one of the best selection of Cicchettis which are small single serving portions of typical Venetian dishes (they look like bruschetta topped with seafood except the bread is soft) and meant to be enjoyed standing up by the bar. You will see different ways anchovies and bacalao served in Venice.

We came at around 2:30pm and it wasn't full. There was another bar pretty close to this one that had a line out the door but this place was quiet. We ordered 4 of the cicchetti and a prosecco. I can't tell you exactly which cicchetti we got as there are no tags on any of them BUT they were all delicious so just pick blindly. This was another great recommendation by Anthony Bourdain. The servers/barmen aren't particularly friendly but don't let that deter you and just order. You order at the bar and pay. Then you sit and enjoy. I would definitely recommend it to people visiting Venice

Stopped in this bar simply for a few glasses of wine (did not try the food)- just to experience the really cool ambiance of this bacaro that dates back to 1462. Dark and earthy inside, copper pots hanging from the ceiling (once used to collect water), wooden decor, and barrels used as tables (to eat and stand-no sitting). They had a wide selection of cheap cichetti and wines, with fast, friendly service. Definitely make this a stop while you're in Venice; you'll get a great feel for the vibe and atmosphere of the city!!

Bf: "I'm gonna find it, even if I have to use up ALL of my megabytes!!!" * sigh * Here's the thing about Venice: google maps doesn't work here. It tells you to turn into this main street, go straight for 200 m, make a right into an alley which leads to a smaller alley, turn left and you end up ..... right where you started. I've a pretty good sense of direction, but apparently, not here. Half an hour and 50 MB later, he gives up. We were ready to just head back towards the Rialto Bridge when we turned a corner and .... voila! The Cantina Do Mori sign was staring at us straight in the face. Go Figure!! I heard about this place from a fellow traveler, Anthony Bourdain. The guy knows his stuff, right? Being the oldest cichetti bar (cichetti is tapas in Venezia) in town, of course we had to go here. I love the old world ambiance of the place: dark, lots of wood beams, copper pots hanging from the ceiling and casks of wine behind the bar. Offerings are encased behind a glass compartment and range from cheeses, small sandwiches, salumi, pickled onions and seafood. Point what looks good and hope for the best! Skip the sandwiches and focus more on the meats and veggies. The mushroom and cippolini onions, stewed eggplant, grilled octopus (get several if you love, love octopus) meatballs and salami. Their wines vary greatly in prices, so we opted for the cheapest ones: a glass of 2.50 euro Montepulciano and 3 euros for prosecco, because one thing I've noticed in Italy, you really can't go wrong even with the cheapest wine, it's still very good! Just remember, like any tapas bars, your bill can easily get spendy and keep in mind this place is cash only.

I was happy to find this hole in the wall wine bar place. Well, I did not find it to be exact...my hotel concierge sent me. When I heard the name first, I thought it's some sort of Japanese eating place due to 'Mori'...anyhow, I love the ambiance, and loved it more after I heard this place opened back in the 15th century - the oldest bar in Venice for sure! As an ignorant traveler, I had to ask what those buckets hanging from the ceilings were for. ;) I did not know this place was introduced by Anthony Bourdain's show until someone pointed out while I was there, but it did not matter. You come here, enjoy the ambiance, and of course wines. Those finger food (aka mini sandwiches) may not be the best tasting food (to be honest), but hey they're very cheap and it's perfect to accompany your wines especially if you don't feel like big meal. If you order cheapy wines, they serve in a crappy glass. But if you order nice (aka more expensive) ones, they serve in a big wine glass. :) They close early (8pm), in fact, they start closing preparation around 7:30pm, so ideally you should come here for a glass or two before your dinner...or breakfast/lunch if you are up for. They open at 8am, haha. Cash only, folks!

Visited Venice with a friend and did a tour called "Eat Like the Locals...Authentic Venice Small Group Food Tour" and this was one of our stops. I probably would not have found this restaurant on my own. It's a small old restaurant with a pretty cool interior (see pictures). The most traditional way for Venetians to eat and hang out is at wine bars known as bacari. Where you stand around together in the bar and talk over an ombra (small glass of wine) and cicchetti (Venetian tapas). Here we had Cicchetti (with sardines and onions) and cuttlefish. Both were very good! I highly recommend this restaurant, the food was amazing!! After eating like a "tourist" my first few meals in Venice I was sure glad I found a place where the "locals" eat...it was soooooo much better!!!! I will definitely dine here again and try other menu items!

The bread was stale, the fish was bad, i'm worried i'll have food poisoning tomorrow. I would not recommend.

Upon arrival, the owner was sitting at a table drinking wine. There weren't any people dining, so we were the only ones. The servers and cooks were very attentive. We were immediately greeted and seated while our drink requests were taken. We always choose still water. Today, we decided to try a wine tasting, which included a blend of whites of reds from the region. The waiter explained in detail the type of wine, where it is made, what type of grapes it is made with, and the year it was made. All of the wines were very delicious. Italy takes great pride in their wines and rightfully so. We requested bruschetta and presciutto. We were given fresh, warm bread, which we mixed with salt, pepper, olive oil, and balsamic vinegar. The bread was amazing. It had a soft, warm inside and a crunchy outside. Isn't that they way bread should be served? The bruschetta was delicious as was the presciutto. The food, wine, and service were superb. We vowed that we would return for dinner, but alas, we didn't make time to do so. This is a great restaurant!

We do love Cicchetti and some bar-hopping. And this is a new place we've discovered this time…read morearound in Venice. Location is very nice, right at a pretty trendy canal, filled with lots of restaurants and bars. Right next to is an excellent gelato place. It's quite small inside with few tables, many just hang around outside - and why not, the location at the canale is a pretty spot. We did manage though to get some seats inside. Our Bulldog was very welcome here as well. The various cicchetti are presented at the counter. There are some classics of course, but also some very innovative creations. We went for the latter. There was gorgonzola with strawberry, radicchio with brie cheese, pesto topped with an anchovie and mushrooms, mashed fava beans with pulp and mashed fava with goats cheese and a cherry. All really wonderful combinations. Our favorite were the radicchio and the fava/goat cheese. Surely something to recreate back home. Staff was very friendly, we felt very welcome here. And instead of focussing on Aperol, Select and Prosecco, it's mostly about white and red wine here. And they have an excellent selection of wine. Not all cheap, but definitely worth the money. We especially loved the Pinot Nero "Terre di Giotto". A brillant cicchetti bar. Definitely a place we come back to next time in Venice.

Maybe he was having an off night. He asked what we wanted to try. He'd pour a tasting and then roll his eyes and wander off, bring his friends their charged phones from the back, and then just look at us. Such a shame, we had hoped for a better experience. We found many other places in this area that we loved and enjoyed their wine. Such a cool hip local area.
