Maybe he was having an off night. He asked what we wanted to try. He'd pour a tasting and then roll his eyes and wander off, bring his friends their charged phones from the back, and then just look at us. Such a shame, we had hoped for a better experience. We do love Cicchetti and some bar-hopping. And this is a new place we've discovered this time around in Venice. Location is very nice, right at a pretty trendy canal, filled with lots of restaurants and bars. Right next to is an excellent gelato place. It's quite small inside with few tables, many just hang around outside - and why not, the location at the canale is a pretty spot. We did manage though to get some seats inside. Our Bulldog was very welcome here as well. The various cicchetti are presented at the counter. There are some classics of course, but also some very innovative creations. We went for the latter. There was gorgonzola with strawberry, radicchio with brie cheese, pesto topped with an anchovie and mushrooms, mashed fava beans with pulp and mashed fava with goats cheese and a cherry. All really wonderful combinations. Our favorite were the radicchio and the fava/goat cheese. Surely something to recreate back home. Staff was very friendly, we felt very welcome here. And instead of focussing on Aperol, Select and Prosecco, it's mostly about white and red wine here. And they have an excellent selection of wine. Not all cheap, but definitely worth the money. We especially loved the Pinot Nero "Terre di Giotto". A brillant cicchetti bar. Definitely a place we come back to next time in Venice. read more

Really enjoyed this small little spot! It's impossible to find a seat outside - there are only 4 tables and people are of course taking time sipping their wine. This place is really quite special and it was one of the best things we did in Venice. There's a small wait to get to the counter, which ends up being fine because you realize the reason is that the people behind the counter care about taking their time with each patron. She asked what we liked, what we were looking for, explained the wines, let us taste. The wines themselves were delicious and we could have stayed here all day drinking just these. You can tell the staff is super passionate about what they do and the selection changes often because everything is smaller batch, so I could imagine going back here over and over to discover new things. We were lucky to grab a table outside just by the water and it was such a pleasant afternoon activity. Grabbed two cicchetti, prawn & roast beef, and to our surprise they were actually some of the tops of the day. Cannot recommend this place enough for an afternoon glass of wine. read more

Loved this place! You can definitely tell it's the local hang out spot for ciccheti time! We got 3 crostinis, the one with pate was our favorite. Beware of the birds, one swooned down and snatched a crostini off our plate as soon as we stepped outside. We came here for dinner at the recommendation of our airbnb host and, while it was alright, I left feeling like it's a bit overrated. Sure, the location is cool, the food is authentic, and it has seating right next to the water -- but it's a bit overpriced for what it is (I'd have to eat a bunch of cicchitti to even come close to full). The service was stand-off-ish. Not rude, necessarily, but definitely not helpful. The young lady working the counter seemed annoyed at tourists in general, and though she spoke English just fine, she wouldn't explain things to us or gave very short, inconclusive answers when we asked questions about the wines or the cicchitti. I did my best to speak Italian to her, hoping it would make the service better, but I was met with the same annoyed responses. What a wonderful but tiny wine bar. The wine was great and priced right. The small bites were also equally as tasty. While I was there various locals came in and out conversing with what I thought was the owner but was actually the owner of another bar who was refurbishing his place this week. The music flowed out of the open door inviting people with refreshingly good reggae music. Nice change if pace from everywhere else if been so far. I had a glass of the wine which the owners made from Tuscany. Also a bruschetta with an anchovy on top. It was sweet but salty. Great pair with my red wine somehow. Maybe my head is full of wine and the city at the moment. The location is great, off the beaten path a bit and with a cozy view of a quiet canal. If I lived in Venice, this place would become my regular bar. It's that good. Located on Fondamenta Misericordia in delightful Cannaregio, this ombra and cicchetti bar excells in the details... which is all that matters, really. Opening at 11 in the morning, and staying open until the small hours, it's perfect for a mid-morning snack, lunch, aperitif or dinner. The star of the show here are organic wines, including some unfiltered local favourites and crisp varieties of prosecco. The cichetti were the best I've tasted in Venice, no little thanks to the use of wholemeal bread - soft and flavourful (obviously baked that morning). From anchovy and leek to stuffed miniature peppers on a cream of spring vegetables, the toppings were also sweet and succulent. The place is delighful inside, with arthouse photography and a wall dedicated to the wine list (painted with blackboard paint). Benches and high stools facilitate perching. Of course, from springtime onwards the action moves to the canalside - did I mention it has unparalleled waterside views? Aided by the cool, hipster ambiance along this section of canal, it's the place to while away summer evenings. read more

My friend and I came here recently while taking a Row Venice tour, and enjoyed ourselves so much that we made a point of returning. The venue is remarkably small and very cozy, with a few additional seats outside as well. Tip: Despite Vino Vero's diminutive size, their wine list is amazingly large and robust, with many different varietals available, and a good cross-section of price points as well. During our most recent evening visit, we spent a good block of time here, and tried a number of different wines. In fact, we stayed late enough (approximately 11pm) that they stopped charging for Cicchetti because it was too late to sell them. Those turned out to be a very good thing, as we devoured quite a variety of them, and most were totally delicious! Vino Vero is more than a little out of the way, and it's in a totally non-touristy area. On both my visits, I found the staff to be very professional and efficient, though my command of Italian is such that communication was sometimes challenging. Despite this, I found that when the restaurant wasn't too busy, I got some excellent wine recommendations. Bottom line: The combination of delicious Cicchetti, great service, and a truly inspirational wine list makes for a great dining experience - highly recommended! read more

The staff were friendly enough - we just ordered a glass of wine each. The cicchetti was beautifully displayed in a case by the bar. I yearned to try some, but could not identify any gluten free options, and unfortunately, the hubs wasn't interested at the time. Avery hip and expensive place for the elite of Venice. The wine is good but over priced and therefore way too expensive. The service is terrible. Very arrogant and if you do not have the right look they give you that teenage look; 'What are you doing here...
