Came here twice! Best Mexican food that I've found so far around here ! Great service, good margaritas, good food!

I've been here thrice now and all experiences have been positive!! First and foremost, this restaurant is a great place for American travelers because they actually accept USD! It's great if you haven't switched over to euros yet or if you want to save money. You can pay in either dollars or euros when paying in cash. If paying with card, you pay with euros. They have a large indoor area and a patio as well. If you go in the hot summer months, be aware that, like most places in Germany, you won't have AC but fans instead. All of the staff are super friendly and helpful. They have an expansive menu that hosts a lot of great options. Everything I've ever tried from there has been really good. On my most recent visit I had their summer salad with shrimp and it is excellent. They also have a great drink selection. I enjoyed the dry Rosé. Free wifi that is a super positive for a tourist. Plenty of parking, they have a lot of parking space! Garden sitting, super cute and family friendly Large space, the inside of the restaurant has a lot of space, many rooms it is a pretty large restaurant. Nice specials with 2 for 1 drinks many days of the week. Service is slow - very slow, they get easily overwhelmed with large tables. Not enough menus, there is a common practice of giving 1 menu per 3 ppl, and not giving enough time for people to look trough the menus, as there is very little amounts to go around. ... Took 20 min to order my drink - the service is pretty slow, I am not sure if it is the waiters themselves or if they are under staffed The waitress was very overwhelmed with the orders, the runner was not loud when bringing food out so he was giving the food to the wrong people and people were eating each others food because of that. ENCHILADA APPETISER - i got mine with ground beef, the sauce tasted pretty nice and the appetiser was fulfilling. Nothing different than a regular plain enchilada here, i did appreciate that they had it with ground beef MOLE ENCHILADA- this is my go to when at a Mexican place. I got it with cheese and onion In the end of the day the order taking and the food took so long that we were basically full of chips by the time we got any food. Love this place! It's as authentic as you can get. Even in Mexico! So to find a place like this in Germany is nutso FANTASTIC! Lots of spice when you want it. Quite possibly the best Mexican restaurant in Kaiserslautern. Food is authentic and very tasty and the restaurant has very cozy decor. Definitely makes you feel like you are south of the border! Huge outdoor patio as well. When things open up again, this will be a place I visit weekly. Try the fajita when you get here! read more

This is the place to go if you're looking for pretty good Mexican food in the Kaiserstraße area! Their mango margaritas are delicious and we always order the queso and get the spicy salsa which is very hot! The service is always great here I don't think I've ever had an issue with the staff or wait times. They do get pretty busy but they take reservations during high traffic areas. Their menu has lots of options to pick from and they even have vegan & vegetarian options so there's food for everyone. I don't have anything negative to add about the atmosphere, food or service. However their parking lot could be a bit bigger. When it's busy there's a struggle to find a place to park. Besides that I love this place and will continue to frequent here. read more

So many Americans and Germans I know love this place, but it's definitely not worth the hype. Service is terrible, and not like "it's Germany" and I just don't get it. The wait staff is always rude and very inaccurate with orders. The food is decent but it isn't any better than literally any other Mexican restaurant in a 30-minute radius. I'd rather go more local to the small town options than wait in line for an hour to get mediocre Mexican near all the other overly American spots near Einsiedlerhof. Love this place!! Authentic but on the mild side, which is perfect for me! We started off with the appetizer sampling Chili con Queso, Guacamole, and Frijoles with chips and salsa. Next time I will order this spicy, if not there is zero heat. I had the 2 combo plate with a shredded beef burrito & a chicken taco with rice and beans. They did cheat on the crunchy taco shell, it's not fried. But everything was delicious. My friend had the 2 combo with a shredded beef enchilada & a chicken flauta, they we're also delicious. Being from San Diego, I'm missing Taco Shops on every corner being in Germany. This place reminded me of home, but my mouth wasn't on fire which is awesome! Heard many good things about this place saying that its authentic Tex Mex food, so as we were in the area, we tried it out. We arrived about 530pm to see quite crowd waiting. We were told it was a 20 minute wait for my group, two adults and two kids, but it was maybe 10 minutes before they sat us. Server came quickly and got our order in. Drinks came within a few minutes, the chili con queso another few minutes after drinks, and the food came in about 10 minutes later. Everything was fresh and hot. Queso dip was very thick and full of flavor. Salsa was just right. We ordered the cantina chimichanga, avocado salad and the kids chicken quesadilla. All the portions were large and very tasty. It was so large that none of us could finish the food. The horchata was also very good, highly recommend getting the large one. Total we paid about 44 euros and it was well worth the price. Expectactions were low everyone had told us we would have ketchup as salsa and nothing would taste good at all at any mexican place in the area. This was our first try outside of a burrito joint and while pleasantly surprised definatly not thrilled. Our waitress was aamzing which was a good change as the drift of unshowered staff that was in the area as we were seated was concerning to the point we had thought of ordering drinks and leaving as not to be completly rude. While the scent appeared in small drifts it wasn't near as strong as initially observed. Appetizers came some what quickly and was adequately spaced to our meal which was a plesant surprise. This is a nice cantina - clean and casual with indoor and outdoor seating to your preference. Only downside here is the kids section where their parents tend to let them run amuck - that's what happens close to a military base. Ordered the combo platter with enchilada and flauta- come with rice and beans. The salsa was excellent, the meat well- marinated. Good execution though I've not had flautas served with sour cream before. Enchiladas were spot on in every respect. The tamale was very flavorful but the texture was off a bit - likely because they use corn flour instead of masa. Price point is normal for this part of Europe. You get good value - make sure you try the horchata...lovely!!!! read more

Good little mexican joint. We came on Tuesday and they had two for one on margaritas. They also had a special on wings at 95 cents each (euros). Not really a bargain though as when getting 8 wings it saves you about 1 euro. If you're gonna do a special at least give it a real incentive! The nachos are very good with real cheese and a good portion size. The refried beans and rice were good alongside the tacos. Service is pretty friendly and they speak english. Definitely the best Mexican food I've found in the KMC so far. Our standards are the chicken enchiladas, the chicken taco salad, the wings (my husband says they're the best in the KMC), and the queso. I def love the wieso and get it every time. I wish the chips were homemade, it would put this place over the top. The tamales are good but having had them fresh and a little cold (from the drive home) I'll say fresh is way better. The taco salad is my standard and I get it the most often, but there's nothing too special about it. It's a taco salad. The enchilada sauce on the enchiladas is good. We also always get a jug of takeaway margarita. It comes with a Pfand, so save your bottle so you can return it for your Pfand. Sometimes it's really really hard to call in a take away order. We've even had to drive there to place our order before because they just weren't answering the phone. Persevere, it's worth it. Or at least it has been for us! I have to say they went above and beyond. I catered a party for my wife and the food was outstanding. The amount was above what I needed. The conversations with email and over the phone were outstanding. My only annoyance was the hostess at the cash register the night I picked up my order. She was a bit confused and actually left me standing at the register for 15 minutes while she seated customers. Woohoo... Mexican food in Germany. Was my thought as I was craving this so bad. It's been a minute since I've had some good as$ mexi food from SoCal. Ugh I'm frustrated just thinking about it. Lol. My friend and I walk in and was immediately greeted by "Do you have a reservation?" Not even nicely. Like you gotta have a Costco card to get in here. We reply.. "No" Looking around it was empty... um ok. The lady says "We have a table open but it's reserved at 7:30pm" I look at my phone to check the time and it's 5:03pm. My friend and I look at each other and are like "Okaaaayy......" Hahahaha what the duck. On top of that I feel like we walked in during some sort of team huddle because everyone that worked there was there to see us non reservation makers get scolded. Ahhahaha atleast that's what it felt like. We sit and order drinks and appetizers and are just having good conversation. And then there's this lady that comes in and yells "This is not where I want to be seated. I reserved table 20 because I don't want to be near that kid play area. It's way too loud." Totally making a scene. Giving us Americans a bad name even though we are pretty good at doing that ourselves. Lol. So that was weird. My friend and I are just waiting for someone, anyone to come back to our table to take our order for our entrees. Nope. Everyone but us gets help. AIGHT. It's about 6 o'clock and there's a table that opens up on the patio and we ask if we can switch to that table since we are sitting in a table that was reserved for 7:30. Lmao! The waiter checks and gives us the ok to move since the table wasn't reserved. Honestly we just wanted to sit there until 7:30 to see when this reserved party arrived and to also see what they would have told us. Like "alright ladies you have 5 more minutes." Hahahahhaha I was so amused. Long story short, we ordered our food and it took so long, No one checked on us, and the food was trash. Like microwaved rice trash, AND THE 7:30PM reservation never showed up. Hahahahahahaha cmon now. My friend even said to our waiter "Oh did the 7:30 reservation cancel?" For Mexican food in Germany this has to be the best place. I mean being from the bay area in CA you know Mexican food. You practically grow up on it. Great place to eat Mexican food in Germany. It's not 100% authentic but they are working hard at it and the food is still good. Their salsa needs to be spicier and they need to get the right kind of cheese for their cheese dip but other than that the food is awesome. It's a great place for any kind of get together. The staff is friendly and the meats are cooked to perfection. If you are new to the area or you are missing Mexican food you need to try this place. Let me make something clear first, you can't walk in and expect the same Mexican food you would back in the states. Different country, different taste, different results. It took me a couple of tries before I got the rhythm of things. I had to keep in open mind every time I had to push myself to keep coming back after I wasn't satisfied the first few times. Once I understood that I wasn't back in Texas and things weren't gonna be the same for a while, the food starting growing on me. I may add the horchata and tamales are on point and taste as authentic as can they can be. It's a hot spot and attracts the locals like crazy, it's always busy. Parking can be a bit difficult when it is, this is the only Mexican restaurant I go to. It's the go to place when your craving Mexican food. It's been years since we left Germany but I will never forget the food from "the Cantina". Germanized renditions of Mexican food are outstanding. The chimichangas were cheesy and phenomenally delicious. Germans use different spices though than traditional Mexican food so the flavor is completely different than what you would get anywhere else.... but definitely great food!! read more

The food was delicious, the staff was friendly from the moment we walked in to the minute we walked out, and they have a kids area to keep the littles busy before and after your meal comes. I wish I could remember our waitresses name because she was brilliant. Very knowledgeable, incredibly professional, and so very pleasant. Americanized Mexican food in Germany. Need I say more? I mean, the food wasn't terrible but left a lot to be desired. I went with my family on a Thursday night. The service was great. Our server was Lisa and she was very attentive and friendly. Our food didn't take very long to get. We ordered Carne asada, Steak fajitas, chimichangas, and a quesadilla. The steak and Carne asada was chewy and lacked flavor. The chicken chiminichangs were good. And the quesadilla was... a quesadilla. Kind of hard to mess one of those up. The rice and beans were kind of lack luster but did the trick. All in all, it was a decent experience but I think I'm going to stick with Fiesta Mexicana or Hacienda. read more

The Cantina Mexicana is so perfect in such a safe way, that it almost hurts to say how regularly I go there. And I truly mean that as a compliment, because the walls are lined with the same tacky plastic Spanish decorations that you thought you left the States to avoid. Then you realize you're 20 minutes from the local US military base. Then this place makes sense. It REALLY makes sense. Somebody is making a lot of money selling American Mexican to Americans. So to start with what makes them good. Their service is excellent. I can't imagine the difficulty of working with Americans all day, nor can I give enough credit to somebody who can understand Spanish food orders in English, translate them to German, and continue to keep a smile. Their beer menu is great relative to the kind of food they serve, and their specials are killer if you land one on the right day. Their food menu also carries a great range in variety and customization, and luckily won't kill your wallet. As far as being the complete package, the Cantina Mexicana does a fantastic job delivering everything you want it to, even if you don't know what you want. Cantina Mexicana is a good restaurant for those who are looking to satisfy a craving for Mexican food, though I'm not sure it's actually Mexican it's more Tex Mex style, with Pace Picante salsa for chips and a lot of refried beans. Overall, i think the average patron will be more than happy with their selection, the menu is pretty extensive and reasonably priced. You can get burritos, tacos, enchiladas, tostadas, tamales, and an assortment of Mexican entrees and sides. (They also have a decent variety of vegetarian foods) The service is good, the staff is attentive and open to taking special orders which is wonderful. The restaurant itself is pretty large which makes it great for groups or mid-sized events, and they even have a nice area for outdoor dining. But I warn you, wear clothes you won't mind throwing in the wash immediately after eating here. The restaurant is overpowered by smell of grease and cumin. read more
