Where we each received three small pieces of bread, tomato, hummus, and an oil olive with balsamic glaze. We normally know bread is an extra cost but the waiter never said anything. Then we ordered the scallop appetizer ($17)and the tiger prawn entree ($39) as our meals. While we waited for our meals, the server came around with the wine menu; every interaction I felt the server was being pushy to sell more as other reviews have stated. The scallop entree came out and they were under cooked and no sear on them at all. Not sure if that was on purpose but I've had better and this was sub par. Then as we waited for the last meal they came around with more bread and oil/balsamic. Then our last meal comes out and they nicely separated the portion on two plates so we didn't have to share on one; hence the 1 star instead of none. The tiger prawn tasted slightly over cooked, the side salad was delicious and the fries were fresh. It was decent but definitely not worth $39. Then they brought the menus for dessert and again were pushy about it. Then came time to pay and what do you know, there are charges I don't recognize. They charged $4 euros per person for the bread service and 2 coffees we never even ordered. I waved down a waiter and he reviewed the charges with me and said he would remove the coffees. Then we provided a card to pay for our meal and said their machine wasn't working. We didn't have enough euros and only USD with us. They didn't want to accept the USD and kept insisting their was an atm around the corner and that he would walk with us there. He repeated this multiple times and I got very uncomfortable. Why would a high end restaurant not have a working credit card machine or at least tell us that the machine wasn't working when we got there so we knew. Everything just felt really shady and I felt unsafe. We refused to get money from the atm and said we can pay in USD or we will wait until your machine is back up. The manager, who I never spoke to I guess said we could pay in USD and told us how much. $75, which was a little over the conversion rate. The server also made it known that didn't include tip... tip? Are you kidding me? After this experience? This is a tourist trap. I don't even believe their card machine wasn't working, I just think they wanted cash under the table. There's a reason the locals don't come here. DO NOT COME HERE!

Cabo Verde was a Portuguese colony, an island off of West Africa, so this was a neat diaspora find. The place is very minimalist and service a bit gruff, but the prices were quite low (€7 mains) and the dishes very traditional. I got the "cachupa" the national dish, which is a rich stew of hominy, beans, and like 5 or more kinds of meat. It doesn't taste like a Brazilian feijoada, but the concept is very similar. Tasty and huge portion. Also I got the "grogue" and "ponche", two traditional Cape Verdean drinks, €2.50 each for a shot glass. The grog was pretty fiery, so I ended up mixing it with Coke, but the punch was very fruity and smooth, most sippable. The place is only a few minutes' walk from all the tourist stuff in Baixa Chiado, but tucked away in a blue-collar neighborhood, in a divey little storefront in the old city. So you have to be okay with a proper ethnic dive to enjoy this, but if you like a little adventure and some hard-to-find specialties, this is worth a visit.

I tried to order beans as well, but was told no. Not sure if they were out or if you just don't order beans with this dish, but I was sad because I'm bean obsessed. But I couldn't even finish the small portion I had, so I guess it worked out. Muamba is stewed chicken with okra. I didn't eat the okra but the chicken was delicious. It was saucy and flavorful. And the hot sauce on the side was fantastic. This restaurant is in my favorite neighborhood, on my favorite street in Lisbon, so I'm excited to return. If you are looking for something different in Lisbon, I highly recommend Tambarina.

The food across the board was excellent--every dish we tried was flavorful, well-prepared, and felt thoughtfully put together. You can tell there's real intention behind both the menu and execution. What really elevated the experience, though, was our waiter, Bernardo. He brought incredible energy to the table--full of personality, engaging, and genuinely fun to interact with. At the same time, his service was top-notch: attentive without being overbearing, helpful with recommendations, and clearly passionate about what he does. Great food is one thing, but when you pair it with service like that, it turns into a memorable experience. Highly recommend--and if you get Bernardo, you're in for a great time.

The duck was braised perfectly and seasoned well, wonderful. Then the ceviche had swordfish and tuna. I am not normally a sword fan, but this was very tasty. Next up were the cheese and risotto.
